Flashy American restaurant serving burgers, salads and steaks, with a special kids' menu.
Friendly staff, prompt delivery of food, tasty food, good atmosphere (Halloweenbut if you go on a Sat and its after 4pm unless you have a booking its hard to get a seat so go before the evening rush esp if you have hungry children. My kids love Captain Americas and it reminds me of my youth too when I used to go with friends.
Ordered stake medium done ,came overcooked. My friend Ordered stake filled and waiter asked how we would like to be done and two of us asked for medium, both stakes was terrible overcooked.
Great family dinner on Sunday very pleasant and helpful staff great portion size all in all a great Day
Good atmosphere, good family friendly restaurant ( unless you have a buggy )Seem to have a smaller selection on the menu compared to a couple of years back which was a bit disappointing. We were there for a childs birthday which I mentioned in the booking notes and to the waitress but nobody wished him a happy birthday which would have been nice. Dont seem to do free refills on soft drinks anymore too
It was only ok 🤔 slow service and staff struggled with ordering. The combo platter starter was poor value, lucky we ordered extra starters as well. Mains were good👍 burgers, chicken fillet, pizza, pasta and rack of ribs. We came for the shakes which we ordered at the end to be told 10min later there were no shakes now available, not good😴 they gave my daughter a disappointing bowl of ice-cream but did sing happy birthday to her. Much appreciated 😁
Visited here while visiting Dublin. They have great food at honest prices. The wifi is fast and the staff is very friendly. Would eat here over most American style places even in America
Food was good. Service was friendly. Unfortunately it appeared our food order was either forgotten or disregarded. Watched tables come in after us, complete eating, and pay all before our meal came out.
Food okay, place ambient amazing
€6.95 for three mozzarella sticks, they were out of all sodas except for Sprite, and the burgers were barely edible.I have deep regrets.
Service was very good, the food was even better. Staff are extremely friendly & helpful. Love the whole vibe of the place, I will definitely be coming back again :)
A regular here. Staff always nice and have never had a bad experience food wise, except for eating too much. Decent pricing, great music. Ive never walked away disappointed from Captains.Special mention for the Philly Cheese Steak, shes a star.
Great food and menu ,fast friendly service, people complain about prices of drinks in Dublin but Captain Americas have great prices on mixers and cocktails after awful service and prices in the quays bar . Captain Americas got it right in every way
Had a lovely lunch with my niece and nephew. The kids meal is great value, the kids couldnt believe the size of their milkshakes for dessert! Huge portions and really tasty,I got a club sandwich and couldnt finish it. The waiter Johnathan was really nice and very friendly.
We ate here last night. The starter wings were tasty, but then we had to wait ages for our main burgers and our kids had finished their meals. So they were getting a little bored. Burgers came 30 minutes later, we were all pretty thirsty but never got more drinks we ordered or water. The burgers were plain, not much seasoning. The chips were tasty. We then had to wait another 30 minutes after eating just to get our bill. All in all, we waited a very long time between eating and it was super busy. Food was OK. Atmosphere was cool with the memorabilia.
Really nice seating area. Pretty full at dinner time but it is worth it. Food was really nice. I had the chicken tenders with fries. The service was a bit slow, but it was ok. Over I really enjoyed myself here.
Lively place with unique decors.. they have music albums and guitars on the walls and ceiling… the staffs are all friendly and attentive. Food was also good and portion was big for the price… the spaghetti that we ordered tasted a bit bland though so just heads up on that one. The place can be quite loud but we liked it and i think it makes a fun and relaxed vibe.
Great food and amazing service! People working here are all nice and very helpful. Just recommend taking a reservation before comming because we had to wait an hour to get a table.
We arrived here yesterday Sunday 7th of Aug at 3.45pm..we were sat down to a table within 5 mins .we were not sure of the menu option to select and asked a staff member her opinion on which would be the best budget to oder..turned out the staff member was a vegetarian.but she was so helpful and recommended the most popular to order .there were 4 of us dining ..we were served food then within 15 mins .my son spilt his drink and staff quickly served another .a young man who was very pleasant .we then opted for desert. Fantastic food .fantastic price .fantastic friendly staff ..we will be back soon .thank you all for a wonderful exsperience after.Alan.
Popped in for a quick bite after a day of sight seeing and what not, didnt have a booking but got sat down without a wait. Staff were very attentive and we got our order in fairly quick.Food came out pretty quick and it was nice and hot, you have a decent amount of stuff to choose from here, from chicken tenders, mozzarella sticks, all sort of beef burgers, chicken burgers and a decent selection of sides too. All in all a great experience, if Im back in area again Ill defo pop in.
Service was OK, bit slow. Food was nice for what it is, thst is, when the right food came out. Meat in vegetarian dish didnt go down well but the staff were very apologetic and replaced quickly.
While the place is cool and atmospheric, and the service is good, there could be some changes to the menu to make it more enticing:1Dont order non-alcoholic mojitos or you will pay full price (9for half the drink.2Dont order the Caesars salad, its literally just a 9 euro bowl of lettuce unless you pay 4 extra for chicken.
Lovely food, great quantities and a beautiful place
Whilst the burger was great the fries 🍟 served with it looked and tasted a little burnt. My sons pizza seemed to have had the pepperoni added late in the cooking process, it was noticeable because the pizza was very well cooked/crispy but the pepperoni on top was just cooked through. These things happen and the overall experience was good. I would go back
The food was excellent and the service was first class. Very friendly staff. We hadnt been there since the 70s but the experience was just the same. Its a special place. Well be back again only much sooner than before.
Amazing if your near Stephens green def make tour way over, staff are so friendly and everything about the place is deadly, the pictures, the memorabilia and the food is unreal and the portion size is crazy you wont leave Hungary believe me..
Amazing burgers.Funny place, service is great!
As an American living in Ireland, I had always dismissed this place as too touristy, but an English friend wanted to go. I thought the food and service were great. I really enjoyed the nachos and the homemade onion rings and I am quite particular about them. The nachos were fully loaded and not this deconstructed nonsense you often see.
Disappointed on my return to Captains after many years since my last visit. Had high hopes, but that didnt last long. Waited over an hour for food(restaurant was empty when we where seated and when order was taken). Food was cold and sent back and waited another 20 minutes to no avail. So we got up and left. I give two stars and not one because management where nice, understanding and apologized.Honestly Captains is know where near as good as the Captains of old and has lost its feel and charm. Felt more like TGI Fridays and not the landmark it used to be.
Loved this place! Stopped in one weekday afternoon with a group of friends and it wasnt busy at all which we liked. Friendly bartender and relaxed atmosphere. Prices were average for the area.
A truly hidden gem within Dublin!1Service is fantastic2Food quality is superb3Its a close proximity to everything in the center4Portion size & presentation are decent5Worth the price that you payVisited twice already within a month.First for wings (image attachedand then for a Smokey burger (image attached)
I called to place my order and no one picked up, so I had to walk through a rain storm to place my order at the restaurant. I am staying at a hotel a block or two from C.A. When I arrived, I told the hostess that I had called twice and let it ring and she said, “We’ve been really busy.”But the poor review of ONE STAR comes from being charged $3.00 for 150ml (5 ozof ginger ale!!!! $3.00????? I can’t believe it! Not even a cup of ice came with it. (Not good Captain America . . . and I’m even American!)
Long time since we ate here but were pleasantly surprise. Hasnt lost its fab food rating. Great burgers. Very helpful and friendly staff. Delighted to go again in the near future. Ideal place to eat before Gaiety
Very disappointed 😞. We waited 40min for our order. And whan it arrived 2 out of the 4 burgers were cold. I alerted our attendant but it seemed to bounce off her I also alerted the guy that took my money but he also seemed not to be bothered. Very sad as I had great memories if this place in its hay day and really love the restaurant decor. Its hard to get good help these days..
Good food. Great atmosphere. Caring staff.
A table for five of us was found quickly without a reservation. Food was very good. I had the club sandwich which I was unsure whether I had to eat it or climb it … it was huge! The food my friends had was complimented equally well by them. Fairly attentive staff without being overpowering made this experience very good and the prices for what we had were reasonable. Recommended as an eatery in Grafton Street area. Well done guys.
Popped in for lunch last Friday, havent been here for a while and was delighted I returned. No reservation but they found us a table. They were pleasantly busy, a nice buzz going on. I had the club sandwich and it was brilliant, a fine big triple decker of a beast, with everything that should be in there, bacon, etc. Nachos on the side as part of the dish. I was not disappointed, I like a good club sandwich! My partner had the Italian burger and was thrilled with it, so all good there Finished off with two Americanos that came in nice big mugs and we were set for the afternoon. Staff were very friendly, helpful and polite. Will definitely be back.
Great burgers, and the fries were incredible. Great memorabilia on the walls for rock fans. Highly recommended!
I believe I was unlucky today going to dinner at Captain Americas to celebrate a conquest with my boyfriend. After the waitress sat us down, she simply forgot us, I waited patiently for 15 minutes, then I went back to the reception to ask someone to take our orders, according to her, the waiter responsible for the area was busy serving a large table and forgot (siq). About the food it was definitely not what I expected, but I liked it. I understand that the short staff problem that Ireland has been facing can be an aggravating factor and the new measures that the government has implemented have made it much more difficult. I hope next time I have more luck. In the end she apologized and give us a discount in the bills. Im given 5 stars because I believe in second chances so lets see next time. The atmosphere and the decoration is amazing!
Chicken wings are absolutely amazing, staff were so lovely and helpful expecially the blonde lad and a girl in a white shirt. Portions were so big and food was so tasty! Really highly recommend this restaurant ❤
One of my favourite places to go. The portions are big and yhe food is lovely. Mocktails and cocktails are really taste and super affordable. The decor is fun and its a nice vibe
Good portion of chips and size of burger but my burger meat lacked flavour compared to my past visits to captains. It seemed drier and unseasoned maybe
I had a dinner here with my friends about 20 years ago during a trip to Ireland. Decided to have some American (north and southsteak food here again. There is just a single door leading to this restaurant but I managed to find. Ordered a delicious Philly Cheese Steak*. The cheese and the vegetable stuffing was a very good match to the steak. Will com back again.*PHILLY CHEESE STEAK (Grilled steak with sautéed mushrooms, onions & mixed peppers topped with a blend of mozzarella, cheddar & garlic mayo, baked in a hoagie bun with a side of pepper sauce).
If you are looking for a little piece of America in Ireland. Be sure to visit Captain America’s located at the top of Grafton Street near St. Stephens Green Park. The food is amazing! Great selection of hamburgers, beers and amazing deserts. The restaurant has being open since the 1970’s. If you ask any person that grew up in Ireland during the 1980’s I would guarantee they visited this establishment. It should be noted I am originally from Ireland, lived in the United States for over thirty years and traveled all over the world with the US Marines. I definitely know a Great Restaurant from all my Travels and life experiences. You won’t be disappointed! Great for lunch or dinner. Very Casual and a must visit when in Dublin, Ireland.
My favorite restaurant in Dublin. If been here many times before and recommend it to all my friends! Food & drinks are superb. And the service on of a kind!!!
Captain Americans is nicely decorated with very loud music. The staff were friendly and the food was served suspicious quickly. Unfortunately my philly cheese steak was short on steak heavy on grease. The waitress said she would tell the manager but they didnt care enough to speak to us about it. Not pleasant 3/10
The all staff, the Waitress was amazing recommend the great plates and describing in details and being patient with us. We all loved the decorations and the ambient of the restaurant, so full of history and culture of Dublin and music. I recommend for sure the ribs its insane! The burgers are not so good as I expected but the rest was really good!
Great food for pretty cheap. The staff was very friendly and the decor is fitting for an American themed restaurant. As an American, things were similar enough to food at home.
Good portions and good food. They have a €10 lunch menu but if you search online you can find buy 1 meal get 1 free vouchers so 2 meals for about €15. They also have €4 pints of beer for students Mon-Wed. A Dublin classic spot.
The staff is very friendly and the place is very busy. There is nice atmosphere and good music. The food was served extremely fast (it took less time than the drinks). I ordered the American burger and it was good, but it was lacking intensity in the taste. Overall it was an enjoyable meal, good to come with groups. The prices for food are around 15€ for main and 8€ for drinks, cheaper with student deals.
My son took these pictures when we had dinner. We have been here on a few occasions to have dinner with family and friends for birthday or wedding anniversaries. Our group was 12-15 people, and the service was excellent, good choice of food. Very centrally located, make sure you book ahead to avoid disappointment.
