11 Mall St, Queenstown 9300, New Zealand, Queenstown
Traditional seafood & meat dishes offered in a relaxed space with rustic stone & wood.
Food was a little expensive but it was great 👍 They need more people to staff this award winning restaurant.
Captains was fantastic! I rate the service 5/5, the food maybe 4/5. We did not have a booking and they were fully booked but they let us sit outside with a heater and checked on us very often anyway! The mussels were beautiful and I really enjoyed the fish and surf and turf! Very tasty
Disappointing experience. Dropped in for brunch with the family. Lovely sunny setting. Serving staff were very pleasant and attentive, but ordered the grade 4 marbled steak and it was very disappointing, especially for the price.
Loved this place! Such a special find in Queenstown. The food is divine and of such high quality. We loved the atmosphere of Captains and the multiple log fires, big leather chairs and stone walls. We felt like we were treating ourselves to fine dining without the pretentious service that often comes with it. Our waitress Jemma was so professional but also so down to earth and genuinely lovely. She went above and beyond to accommodate our 19 month old joining us and was so awesome in looking after us all throughout our dinner but also being a truly approachable, kind hearted and just the right amount of funny asset to her team! I havent had many meals where our waiter has looked after us so personably and Jemma was memorable in this way. Thankyou.Also... Get the captains passion cocktail. It was incredible!
Absolutely delicious. We had sirloin steak with the mushroom sauce and pepper sauce. We Loved it! Thanks the team to find the table for us.
The food was a bit slow but totally understandable because looks like they are lack of staffs at the moment. It was worth of the wait, unfortunately we were sitting outside at night time and our food got cold too fast. Their customer service was really really good. It was worth of my time.
Honestly the worst dining my partner and I have ever experienced. It’s unfortunate that we have to leave a review like this but if it saves other people a fortune for a below average experience then hopefully it’s helpful! Kudos to the staff who are under a lot of pressure at the moment especially the gentleman waiter tonight serving us who was attentive and genuinely sorry for our experience. It’s obviously very hard on the staff during covid and it definitely showed, particularly in the woman working front of house who seemed like she didn’t care about taking care of the customers. The food was well below average (skinniest oysters ever, salmon was served with what looked and tasted like packet risotto with chopped up tomatoes, and the steak was served undercooked and unfortunately we had to send it back which we hate doing at restaurants but it still came out rare again). The wait on the food was over an hour and a half which is understandable because they were clearly understaffed but a little heads up at the start would have been nice. It’s actually unacceptable to pay $170 for what we got, which was 2 entrees, 2 mains, 2 sides (because the $40 steak doesn’t come with anything elseand 2 drinks. This place is extremely over priced and we would not recommend. Not a very nice way to leave our last night in Queenstown.
The service was great (albeit the young surely genthowever the food was a big disappointment. My sons big breakfast was $10 cheaper than the adult big breakfast and the only difference was less 1 hash brown, 1 piece of toast and a but of egg. The sausage was like rubber and the egg tasted like powdered eggs, not fresh. Its certainly not worth the $70 we paid for breakfast.
Very nice restaurant. Had to wait half an hour before they changed over to dinner menu but seafood chowder was worth the wait.Nice staff good location.
Firstly I really like the English pub-style feel of this place. I really like the tomato-shaped sauce bottle. I also really like the burgers and while the chicken patty was a touch on the dry side, the flavours were cracking. The beef burger patty was excellent, excellent, excellent. You could taste the memories of the steer/cow/bull/heifer/whatever they get beef from - running through a luscious meadow, filling its flesh with the flavours of happiness for me to enjoy in its post-life.Apart from the burgers, the portions are a little on the leaner side. Thankfully with salt&pepper calamari, even a bad one is still pretty good. This one was a little tough and a bit dry which could easily be fixed by a heavier serving of the paprika aioli. Chips were crisp but severely underseasoned - make good use of the salt and pepper shakers provided. The standout (oddlywas the garden salad which was appropriately dressed and well-balanced. Too often garden salads are dominated by red onion. Greek salads can hold their own on the onion front with bold flavours of feta and olives strong enough to balance out the bite. Garden salads dont have this luxury though, but they nailed it here.Prices are reasonable for a pub feed. We did leave a touch disappointed, but only a touch.
Dinner was amazing! We had an awesome waitress Jemma, she was so welcoming, super accomodating to us and funny! Made our experience that much better. Thanks Jemma and everyone else at Captains :would 10/10 recommend
The best service in Queenstown, hands down! Thank you to the amazing Junior and Jemma for making it such a wonderful night, and for being super accommodating while most other restaurants in town were fully booked. We ordered Bluff oysters, the crusted lamb and steak for mains - all cooked to perfection. Would highly recommend for those visiting Queenstown.
The food and experience was excellent. We had the seafood chowder and mussels as entree, and the salmon and lamb rack for mains. Service was great, especially noting everywhere is short staffed.
Have been here for meals over the past 3 years with satisfaction.Tonight I was disappointed with being served cold mushroom sauce with a nuke warm steak under cooked.I waited for Meal and carried on buying drinks until my meal turned up cold.I was given a discount on my meal (thanksbut would have rather been served what I waited for and paid full price
The food was absolutely to die for. The lamb rack was literally as soft as butter and melted in my mouth, incredibly tender. The herb crust and rosemary jus on it was also incredible, best lamb I have had in a while. My partner had the market fish and was very, very satisfied. But the real highlight was the staff, warm and welcoming, our server Jemma was friendly and so so lovely. Really made the entire experience something special. Would 100% come here again in a heartbeat.
One of our favourite places in Queenstown. Great location, amazing food, friendly and attentive staff. Surf n turf with half a NZ crayfish is absolutely beautiful and delicious.
Absolutely incredible. Between us we tried the venison, steak, lamb, surf and turf, kids ribs and kids chicken and it was all delicious. The chocolate mousse and apple pie were also very good. And the service was friendly and helpful. Even my fussy 4 year old loved it all. Would definitely recommend.
Nice lunch and quick service, very nice friendly staff. Unfortunately we were not in time of try their mulled wine. Hopefully next time!
Stopped in for lunch and was very disappointed. The mushroom risotto was inedible but I didnt want to waste my money so I tried to eat it with the garlic bread and felt sick - I barely ate a quarter of my plate. It was mushy and super oily - see picture for reference. The 2 stars is for the big breakfast and chicken burger that was tender and actually edible. While the venue is decent the service was average. They took our orders and served the food after a very long wait but never checked on us again. For the food alone, I do not recommend. Far better options in Queenstown that are worth your money.
Sadly really disappointed….great staff lovely atmosphere but tonight’s dinner was more than lacklustre…chilli garlic prawns that had salsa and carrot ? Tough prawns and garlic bread that resembled something from Pizza Hut…garlic and chorizo linguine that had possibly one slice of chorizo cut into quarters but more mushrooms to the point where they overpowered the whole dish…and apparently toasted ciabatta that was cold and damp…sorry not good enough… 2 stars for the staff solely
Located at the beach Street, central location, close to the lake. The waitress tried to memorise our orders, didnt write it down anywhere, and failed, luckily we checked our order again with someone else, so we got everything we ordered in one go. The portion was small for the price and the food was pretty average.
perfect place in a calm storm lol... fantastic food and service... hard to leave when they make you feel awesomely comfy...
Took my wife for her birthday. Not disappointed at all. We were walk ins on a busy Friday night. Staff were well presented, friendly, helpful. This is the best seafood platter we have ever had. Would highly recommend to any seafood lovers.
Yummy food, nice ambiance, and friendly staff. Fish of the day is always amazing.
Seafood chowder was made using frozen bag of seafood marinara....is not what i expected for $29 from this nice looking restaurant. I should have asked. Nice staff. My husbands lamb rib was perfect.
My husband and I had a fantastic meal a few nights ago. The service was 100% friendly, professional, quick and lovely. The food was bountiful (chowderand so tasty. Thankyou to the staff for making our night amazingly great
Absolutely wonderful dining !!! Amazing staff, food and cocktails 🤘🏻😎🤘🏻
I thought the mushroom risotto I had was super delicious! Its gluten free/celiac friendly :It has small pieces of mushroom and its not overly mushroomy so even if youre not a big fan of them (like meits overall very yum.My family got the big breakfast, caeser salad, and chicken burger with fries and they were all happy with their meals.I would suggest you add the allergens such as gf to your menu please. The risotto only had (vnext to it.
This was supposed to be brekkie after landing in Queenstown buuuut I decided to opt for more of a lunch vibe. Its quite nice sitting outside under the rays. Unfortunately, the tables upstairs werent accessible on this day. I ordered the calamari and it was fine. Love a chunky chip or are they called steak chips...Good location and opening hours.
As a Queenstown local, easily the best seafood Ive had in queenstown. Had an array of food including mussels, bluff oysters, seafood linguine, calamari all absolutely delicious!
Pretty decent for a brunch before leaving for the airport and would probably eat here again. But, did feel a little sick after so much sugar from chicken n waffles but was still decent, fried eggs were a bit too under, and friend ended up swallowing a really big lump of salt in the pasta
June2021: I had a hard time rating..Oysters as entree OMGOSH, with the vinaigrette.MAIN.. Fish of the day,.. $30.sshNow, the meal was actually niceFish fresh and not over cookedVegies fresh & not overcooked.Roast potatoes 👎🏼 were meeeh.Seemed to have been sitting in a hot plate so yes to roasted, but no too fresh.Another 👎🏼 was this dish was in a bowl, so excess water? juice from the veggies sat in the bottom of the bowl, so the potatoes became Soggy. So heres my thing, for the price, I feel a Plate re bowl2 bits of fish fillets appropriate👍🏼, as there was good vegANDthat meal didnt need roast potato, but sitting on a smash of mash would be devine. 😍.Customer service was A+I did have a really nice eveningThanks
The service is just terrible. Our mains took almost an hour to be served! The pan seared scallops only consist of 6 tiny pieces and the rest is basically salad. Would be more appropriate that it be called scallop salad instead. The seafood chowder is a bit thick for me and I find the one in Speights Alehouse so much better. My husband and I felt ripped off for paying almost a hundred bucks. Not coming back to this place.
We are 4 people have a late dinner here. If you are seafood lover can order the share plate, my son get a Main seafood chowder. Very full.
We decided to dine at this place for breakfast, 4 adults super hungry! We had already decided what to eat before the waitress came, so when she did we said can we order our food now, she promptly said no drinks only with a sour face. We almost got up and walked away. We then got to ordering 3 big breakfast and scrambled eggs on toast which took over 50 minutes to come out. The scrambled eggs looked like cat vomit and smelt worse (wasn’t eating thatthe big breakfast was completely cold, the eggs where full of white snot! And there was nothing big about it (more a kid size big breakfast). They over charged us, different from the price on the menu, but to be fair they didn’t charge for the cat vomit, I mean scrambled eggs! Won’t be returning, 4 unhappy customers
My husband and I have been here three times in one week because we couldn’t get enough!First time we had crayfish and seafood chowder which are our favourites from this place. Then linguine which were also delicious. Lastly we had the calamari and the lamb rack. The oysters were amazing too. But nothing beats the seafood chowder! Great portion sizes too.
Best Rib Eye steak by far, tasty n juicy, roasted potatoes dipped n garlic n herb sauce, kids loved their steak meals, wife loved her fish of the day with gnocchi and capers n lemon cream sauce! Friendly and welcoming. Well done.
Ordered the big seafood platter for 2 and the lamb ribs. The lamb was the best I have ever had, it fell off the bone and the sauce made it even better, I was tempted to order another. The big seafood platter was good it was very fresh but nothing special. Id come here again for the lamb and something new.
A must for people who are looking for exquisite seafood. We had the chowder and fish of the day(monkfishand it was delicious. Worth the wait and price! The staff is truly passionate.
Compliments all round - this is one of our favourite restaurants to go to whenever we are in Queenstown. The food, you can’t fault and the service is excellent!
Blown away! Came back twice, amazing food and friendly staff! Cozy setup and they have great wine as well. A must try in Queenstown. Do make reservation for weekends!
Awesome place for dinner! Appreciate the surprise my friends and the staff made! Great seafood and fresh oyster! Big sharing plates!
Good restaurant. Thinking of order a plate of oysters but oysters limited stock due to bad weather. Had their seafood plater $158 for 2. Generally good and big portion for 2 males. Garlic bread and smoked salmon is good. Oysters are fresh but the size a bit small. Crayfish and the fish of the day are fresh as well. Calamari just too much and slightly oily.
Friendly staff, fresh food, good selection of wine, just a litter expensive. The lamb is the star of the entire cuisine, make sure to give it a try! Seafood platter and scallops are rather interesting as well. Not so much the salmon or the beef. Fish of the day may also be interesting, but the gratinated patatoes are just wow
The salmon was delicious, service was great, and the price was reasonable for the location and quality. My buddy and I both had a salmon and shared a bottle of Merlot - no complaints! This places does tend to get busy to you may have a short wait, especially for some outdoor seating.
Stopped off for dinner after a whole day of activities, so were really hungry.Good menue choices and friendly staff, the venue was very busy so were not able to get an outside seat.We had fish of the day and pan seared salmon. Both excellent and very tasty.
We were a big group of 12. They found a suitable place for us. Friendly staff, helpful and smiling. I got the fish of the day and the plate was amazing. The only downside is the price. A bit expensive but welcome to Queenstown. If you are visiting Queenstown, then be prepared to pay more than you would in the rest of NZ.
Went for lunch while walking around town. I had mussels curry and my friend had seafood chowder. Both are delicious beyond our expectation. Seafood chowder is quite rich in flavour and have lots of mixed seafood. The mussels are fresh and not overcooked. The bread on side is a nice touch so we can soak up all the juicy gravy.
Good steak and seafood restaurant at Queenstown prices. We ordered the market fish and whitebait which were well-cooked and tasty. Portions are generous making the prices justifiable.Service is friendly and informative.Recommend making a booking during busier times of year.
Captains another seafood dinner....Fresh oyster from the local sea. So fresh and so juicy and so tender.Scallop with prosciutto cooked just right. The seafood chowder that is loaded with tons of seafood.Lamb rack that is souvide and then roasted to medium rare. NZ lamb is indeed soooo tender. And lastly our first try in Elephant fish, a firm fish with a mild taste..Food : 5/5Service : 4/5Price : $$$$Place : 4/5
