Captain's Cabin in Saldanha

Nice place great Milkshakes and great view.

A restaurant and pub situated in the center of the town. You can either access the entrance from the road up the flight of steps or the ramp. A person in a wheelchair may require assistance up and down the ramp.The seating is indoor or under a covered deck which has drop down blinds. The menu is vast, offering pizzas, steak, burgers, pasta and more.

Regrettably our fish was over cooked and took to long time to arrive for a restaurant that had only one table at the time

Place is very nice. Has a band on Sundays. The service was good and quick. The menu is full of good looking food. And their special food board is awesome. Had the 1kg mussels special. Was very good I deed. Come check it out.

We had a lovely afternoon at Captain’s Cabin! We had some drinks and shared a Captains Basket! The food was delicious, staff were friendly and the views were incredible! We’ll be back!! 😊

The service was a very slow the chicken strips were undercooked orange juice tasted like it was fermented and to make it worse we had seen the huge burger being advertised around so we came for it but got our worst nightmare not only did we sit for over an hour for the burger but the pattie was unnecessarily huge and raw and tasted weird as if it was starting to go bad and the bun was white like really white n the chips probably got cold while they were preparing the burger but the anchor was cute thoughThen the pasta with chicken mushroom was ridiculous it was like butter with bits of chicken n mushrooms and within a few min it became like candle waxI have to say other days the service is quite good and the food is good but there is a lot that still need to be improved

First time visit to Captains Cabin Restaurant. Service was really good, our waiter, Pride, was the best. Food was really really good, fresh, tasty and so filling. Views overlooking the beach and sea are breathtaking. Will definitely be back.

Hamburger was very good, the view of the Lagoon was amazing, needed that after a hectic week. Waiter was good.

One of my favourite places on the West Coast. Always takes me back to when I was only 21 years old. Excellent food great setup, friendly staff, that you would expect of the west coast. You wont regret popping in for a meal and a drink. Im yet to try the sushi. As soon as I do Ill let you guys know!!!

Great service and great atmosphere, you can go here for anything in Saldanha from sushi to steak to pizza ,they have a big variety on the menu from food to drinks.

We visited Captain’s on our last night in Saldanha. Service was fairly fine. I am giving them two stars because there is cross contamination in the kitchen. I am vegetarian and I did explain this to the kitchen. Unfortunately, they don’t clean their deep fryer so my crumbed mushrooms was contaminated with bits of chicken strips. This was incredibly distressing. We complained to our waiter who then said they would replace the crumbed mushroom. They did so, and I took the replaced crumbed mushrooms home. But when I ate the replaced crumbed mushrooms a day later, there were also bits of chicken with the mushrooms. I was really upset by this as I bit into chicken for the 2nd time in 2 days.They really need to improve their foodhygiene in the kitchen or tell their vegan/vegetarian customers that they use the same deep fryer so customers won’t order the mushrooms.They also don’t have a menu online which is a bit annoying.

The view from the top deck was great. However the food was not so great. The chicken schnitzel was extremely dry and the pork was well overcooked. Very dry. The mash and gravy arrived arrived after my food was finished and it looked like scrambled eggs. The gravy was bisto sauce which was not properly cooked. When asked whats their speciality on the menu, the waiter said everything is good. Im from the westcoast but would not recommend it.

Food and service was awesome today, had the mussels, tentacles and sushi. Was a bit disappointed there was no oysters but was enjoyable experience nevertheless. Love the revamp on the place, its a great place for lunch on the west coast!

When we arrived the layout looked very promising but...The rack of ribs we ordered tasted like cleaning detergent of some sort as if they didnt wash off the cleaning appliances off properly and they cooked our chicken strips in the same oil as they cook the prawns because they tasted like fishy prawns.Very disappointed

Worst service ever. We were there Saturday 1 January 2022 planning to have lunch. Waiters completely ignored us. Just walked pass us the whole time, not making any eye contact, pretending we’re not there. We sat there for about 25 minutes and then decided to leave.This is the 3rd time we had a bad experience at Captains Cabin. The first time we received bad service from Captains I did not complain because I gave them the benefit that perhaps they had an “off-day.” The second time around I just did not feel like complaining. But now after our 3rd bad experience at Captains Cabin I simply cannot keep quiet again.It’s not acceptable to treat your customers this way. We WILL NEVER EVER GO TO CAPTAINS CABIN AGAIN. WE WILL NOT RECOMMEND ANY OF OUR FRIENDS / FAMILY TO GO TO CAPTAINS CABIN.

The revamp look very nice. They have an amazing special on VAT69 whiskey. You can buy a sealed bottel and keep it at your table. You also get soda water. You dont have to finish the bottle. You put your name on the bottle and mark the level and then go back whenever you like to drink it.

So to be honest they have changed owners in the past few months. However this does not excuse bad service or food. The bar is operated by lovely gentleman that are very good at their jobs. The waiters tending to the restaurant are another matter. Taking over 20 minutes to realise we were there, us having to wave them down and then being met with bad attitudes. They stand around chatting to each other and rarely attend to the tables. The food used to be excellent and now it is just sub par. The calamari was prepared from deep frozen, that is not the problem, it was just rather cold still, and the batter failed to stick to the pieces. The chips were full of oil. I used to love this place and come here every 2 months or so. I really do hope they step up to aspire to something better. Will revise this review on my next visit depending on the experience.

I went to this restaurant on 3 occassions in the past. So it was my obvious choice to take my friends who visited Saldanha for the first time. What a waste of time and money!! We waited 15 min before our order for our drinks were taken. My friend got her Castle immediately but myself and other friend waited more than 12 minutes for our filter coffee. Eventually I called another waitress as the one helping us was too busy. Eventually we got our hot drinks and we ordered our food when the beer was served. We waited 40 ninutes and people who ordered after our order were served around us. When our pizza arives eventually, it was burnt and tastes bad. The chicken strips were too dry.No-one even apologize for the waiting time or the burnt pizza. It was only when I sent it back that the waitress apologized. Never again... although I still think their mussels are the best. (This time it was sold out)

Lovely little pub within walking distance from the protea hotel. Family oriented as well.

Fabulous views, indoor and outdoor seating. Good service and good food. Casual atmosphere and menu offering standard local fair. Schnitzels, burgers, steaks, baskets, pizza etc. Breakfast has no cut off time, which is very convenient. Reasonably priced. Pleasant experience.

The crockery was interesting, I liked the little potjie pot they served my lamb curry in. The rice and sambal was well presented. Our waiter Pieter was friendly. The beef steak was overdone and lacked flavour but not a complete train smash. Malva pudding was ok with homemade custard. All in all an ok experience.

Its not close by, but if you around Saldahna area, you should have this on your list. Fantastic food, large portions so be sure to have plenty of room. Not a wheelchair friendly place being up high from the road. Good drinks selection. Can sit both "outside" inside and inside.
