A rainy Wednesday night in Wellington. We are from Australia and had been looking for somewhere decent to have dinner, when we finally stumbled upon Capital…. and we were not disappointed.Great food, good service and very nice atmosphere.I had pork schnitzel, my wife had lamb. Both perfect with sides of spinach and potatoes.Thanks Capital. Excellent!Highly recommended

Food is always good there. Impeccable service and tasty menu and always evolving. Its a regular place for us and it has always been consistent for service, food and drinks. Great restaurant for any occasion. The beef fillet is my favourite paired with the spinach sautées side, and the toffee pudding is to die for with a glass of sherry.

Always a nice dinner with great service. We tried the WOAP cocktail, festival dish and burger. We also shared the calamari which was the best thing we had. Their calamari is so light and soft with wonderful flavor. I dont known what magic they are weaving with their calamari, but its definitely worth going there to have it. The festival dish was not amazing and has a very strong fishy seafood flavor. The burger was nice, but nothing special.

We went there for dinner, ordered our food, but didnt receive it until 11/2 hours later, which made for a late night, the restaurant was full, but apparently not enough staff were available this night. We were not too pleased with the long delay.

My word... This place isnt the cheapest but my God is it worth every single cent!We came here to celebrate a special occasion and ended up getting starters, mains, sides and a bottle of wine.I got the squid for starters (very delicious but probably not enough to share portion wiseand ended with a steak.By far, the best steak Ive living in New Zealand, perfectly cooked and full of flavour, the wine sauce was absolutely gorgeous and the potatoes that came with it were equally fantastic.We ended up getting some extra potatoes on the side which actually worked really well as the portion sizes arent particularly huge.Overall, absolutely loved my visit to Capital and will DEFINITELY be coming back in future for more!Edit: have been back a number of times since I last reviewed and have never been disappointed

We dined for the first time at Capitol last night for my birthday. Top quality menu consisting of local produce cooked and prepared to perfection. We even managed to get a dozen fresh bluff oysters that have been difficult to source else due ro a mass shortage. We will definitely be back again! Thanks Capitol for going above and beyond for us on this special occasion.

First and foremost good luck getting a table here. This is one of the very few fine dining restaurant in the capital.The oysters were delicious. We shared few of the mains. Very delicious and lamb was very tender.Service was amazing. Little let down the space is very small, it felt like we were part of the table next to us.Overall amazing

What better place to celebrate a triple family dinner. Food was creative and divine. Wait staff with just the right quality and quantity of engagement.

The food should have been great but it was too salty, both the entree and main. Such a disappointment, had better for less cost. The dessert and wine was delicious and the service friendly.

Pretty good overall. The staff were reality nice, and service was great. The restaurant has a great vibe. Our fish mains were really outstanding, I would love to have it again. But our squid starter wasnt great, i feel like it needs crispier batter and a bed of salad. Sides and dessert were fine.Id definitely visit again for the fish main.

Visited with some friends as a "fancy dinner". We had a wonderful young waiter, very polite and kind. Definitely not our usual pick, but it was really tastey! Had the lamb, beef and fish main meals. The potato sides were good too. Not for those that are hungry though!!

My Friend Reuben and I visited for dinner, April 2nd, for the second time in as many weeks.From the House made Focaccia, through to the mains of Twice cooked Lamb and Grilled Beef Fillet, everything was perfect. Special note - Natalia was second to none. She kept a great eye us, entertained conversation, never let a glass become empty and gave us fantastic suggestions when we asked for a couple of changes. Most notably, adding Plum as a replacement for the Creme Fraiche to complement the dark Ghana Chocolate Pudding. She is an absolute superstar, and a great asset to your business. Really looking forward to coming in again, soon.

Delicious, couldnt fault it. Depleted menu because of covid but the lamb that I had was superb.The chocolate pudding is fabulous.Lovely staff.

Ive visited Capitol several times and had been keen to head back to savour their stylish bistro food - inclduing distinctive offal dishes (lambs brain dish was a standout)- matched with interesting wines and expert service. Our experience was memorable. With the help of our expert waitress we chose our whole meal from the specials menu and shared everything which made it feel like a personally crafted degustation, without overeating.

We had a grate dinner for celebrate my husbands birthday. All of food are delicious.

Went there last night. Delicious food and great service. Fried squid, oysters and the chocolate puddings are highly recommended.

great food done simply. elephant fish, from the shark family was meaty and perfectly partnered with some velvety mash and crunchy smoky charred broccolini. Cloudy bay clams were sublime and service was fun and efficient.

Hospitality , ambience, food all amazing but unfortunately we had to book at 5-15 which was fine by us as we thought main at 6pm? But as soon as wed finished our starter they zoomed in with our main at 5-45!!! The food and service was amazing but that quick timing was terrible as wed had it spelt out to us very clearly that 2 hours was our limit but as we had last bite of starters our main was presented! So nice but terribly rushed!

went there tonight, first time and had the prawn linguine. it doesn’t look like much, you’d even question if there’s seasoning BUT BOY WAS I WRONG. So rich in flavour. Perfectly cooked. I think I’m obsessed. Plus the oysters were the creamiest fattiest oysters I’ve never had

Can almost always guarantee a great dining experience here, so was not disappointed. The clam starter was full of flavour. I’m a big fan of the pumpkin gnocchi and all it’s buttery goodness, and the WOAP venison and oyster pie was a big hit! That and great service made for a great night out.

Food here is incredible. Every menu.Staff are always exceptional, they never ask how the meal is when you have food in your mouth!As a 6ft guy, elbow space is limited. Its just unfortunately cramped. But I keep going back because its sooo good.

Capitol is always brilliant and always popular. The Bluff oysters were fat and delicious. As was the liver and the lamb shoulder. You cannot go wrong.

Lovely evening out for my birthday. Cutlery needed replacement due to leftovers 😔. Antipasto was great and I was impressed with my meal but my partners lamb was somewhat overcooked, she might not have minded but I was very disappointed.If I was to say anything about the place, the service was top notch. Our waitress deserved her tip 🤗

It is such a lovely restaurant. Everything we had was perfect. Cheryl helped us to organise an 8 people dinner. She really took care of us and we could not have a better time. The food was amazing. Every dishes we had was a blast. Will definitely come back again.

A group of 4 of us, great place to catch up, have a meal in a comfortable atmosphere. Good wine and service. I really enjoyed the fish. Lovely restaurant, flavorful dinner and good portion size, great & friendly service, thanks for a special dinner evening ! By far the tastiest main meal Ive had in Wellington yet! We started with fresh oysters 😋 then had an asparagus entree with chorizo and egg which was amazing. Like Amazing! And then the Market Fish on green olive caponata for main. If I wasnt so full from the delicious food I would have ordered another main because it was just beyond tasty 👌🏻👌🏻 Staff were attentive and the restaurant had a great wine list for wine both by the glass and the bottle. Would love to see a dairy free dessert option on the menu.

As recent residents of Oriental Bay, Capitol quickly became our favourite restaurant. The food is always outstanding, I highly recommend the parmesan coated lamb, although the fish dishes are also a real stand out. Lovely ambience, relaxed but highly professional and the staff are never less than utterly charming.

I only been here for breakfast and it is really good, their pancake is a must try if you are fan of puffy pancakes like me. The service is excellent

I was been with my friend today. The athmosphere of capitol restaurant was so confident and waiters are really kind to explain the menu & food. I order Antipasto, oyster, beef fillet and desert with some wines. The price is so reasonable and quality is good as well. I highly recomend to try Antipasto dish, you can try a lot of taste & flavour. If you travel wellington i really want to try this restaurant while you travel thank you !!

Ive been going to Capitol for years (probably about 20 yearsit is one of my favourite restaurants in Wellington; its not cheap and it is a small venue. Last night i was surprised the place had been turned into a childcare facility. Thankfully the large table with all the kids were just leaving. What happens if you pay for a baby sitter and a taxi and get to the really nice venue looking forward to a nice night out, you can quite easily part with $500 for an evening out, that has just been ruined by someone else’s little darlings. A quality establishment like Capitol should have an age limit for entry like 12 years old.

One of the best beef fillet ive ever had. The place is small, with few tables on the corner of a building. We waited quite a lot for our meal but they offered us a very good squid. Staff very gentle. A really delicious meal.

Had dinner here before going to a show, we had pre-warned them of our need to leave early and they went out of their way to make sure we were well fed and on time. Excellent food and great service. The restaurant is a bit crowded but I guess the area is quite small and they want to maximise use of the space. I have driven past Capitol for some years with out knowing how good it was. Tried yesterday and found a real gem. Great menu and wine list. Top food and pleasant staff. Keen visit again soon.

Nice food and atmosphere but overall a bit stingy....the meal, well-cooked and with fresh and nice ingredients were nonetheless a little simple and humble for the $30. My saffron parpadelle had none of the taste or colour of saffron and when asked for the chocolate pudding crème fraîche accompaniment to be replaced by coconut yogurt due to a lactose intolerance, which I know was available on the menu, they said that it would be at extra cost and the waiter didn’t suggest any other replacement :/

Wonderful experience with my family for dinner! Wonderful staff, prompt and courteous service! Main course char grilled beef with potato was beautifully cooked and the chocolate pudding with creme fraiche was wonderful!Highly recommend!

A relatively casual atmosphere but it never ceases to amaze me how they can produce such amazing food from such a tiny kitchen. Always options abound for any taste and the daily specials are always worth sampling. I definitely recommend their Saturday brunch offerings. Very good wine list and helpful attentive staff are always nearby.

Weve just had a superb meal at Capitol. The wait staff couldnt have been nicer, more helpful or friendly; full of personality and they really know their stuff. I had the best lamb Ive had in years, so good I was tempted to lick the plate. I couldnt manage dessert, but I know it would have been incredible. 10/10 to wait staff and chefs, thank you so much for a memorable evening.

Excellent all around. We walked in without a booking, but it was on the late side and they gave us a table. The place is very small with a really cramped kitchen. The service was prompt and they have an excellent selection of wines by the glass. I enjoyed that. We ordered the bread/butter which was a very small serving, only 1 slice cut in half. We then ordered the bruschetta was quite good, but also very small. I had the amazing : House smoked cheddar and ricotta gnocchi with burnt butter. Really spot on, but very filling, even with a smaller portion.
