Hermosa capilla con una bonita leyenda
This chapel was built between 1753 and 1780, Tucked away in the corner of the old walled city of San Juan is a tiny chapel. It was built on top of the ancient stone walls that protected Puerto Ricoβs capital in 1753 to celebrate a miracle. Since then, tens of thousands of faithful visitors have come to this humble chapel to pray for cures. it is near to famous La Fortaleza street. As stated by guide - It is said, that in the year 1750 Cristo Street was host to a horse race where one of the participants could not stop his horse and fell off the cliff. The Secretary of Government at the time, Don TomΓ‘s Mateo Prats is said to have invoked the Santo Cristo de la Salud and that the young man who fell off the cliff was saved. And so, the Secretary of Government ordered the construction of the chapel on sight to honor the miracle. It was later revealed that the young man died, but still, this chapel has a distinctly spiritual feel to it. How to better start your journey than in this miracle sight!
Beautiful place. Make sure to visit it on Sat or Sun when its open.
Yes itβs a beautiful place but the food doesnβt worth its price. I got cauliflower salad for 12 dollars which contained 6 small pieces of cauliflower and mixed greens. My wife got a goat cheese salad with a bulk of cheese on top of mixed green. No option to add meat to any salad. Zero in creativity !
Great place. Awesome experience.
This place is also known as the pigeon palace. You can bring here to watch and feed the pigeons. The building is also really cool. Lots of history to this place and city.
Beautiful church
Very Good
Historical
Historic place that one should not miss when in Old San Juan.
Pigeon Park is closed due to virus. Is now outside. $2 per bag to feed pigeons. Amazing experience.
Capilla del Santo Cristo de la Salud.Chapel of Holy Christ of Health. This information below was used from a Google search I did for this Chapel. As the story goes, during the San Juan Bautista celebrations of 1753 a rider, Baltazar Montanez, lost control of his horse and plunged to the cliffs below. The Spanish Secretary of Government Don Mateo Pratts was watching the drama unfold from a nearby balcony, and allegedly cried out, βChrist of Good Health, save him!β Though the horse didnβt survive the fall, the young rider did.Tucked away in the corner of the old walled city of San JuanΒ is a tiny chapel, one of the most beautiful and secluded monuments in the old capital. It was built on top of the ancient stone walls that protected Puerto RicosΒ capital in 1753 to celebrate a miracle. Since then, tens of thousands of faithful visitors have come to this humble chapel to pray for cures. That same year, Montanez built the small chapel on the exact spot where he fell over the cliff. The altar was built in shining silver and gold leaf, surrounded by beautiful oil paintings by the famous Puerto Rican artist Jose Campeche. Much of the modestly sized but immaculately appointed chapel hasnβt changed since then. ButΒ over the decades it has been slowly added to by believers who come to the chapel seeking their own miracles. Tiny silver ornaments decorate the chapel, each one representing some ailing part of the body. These smallΒ milagros, or miracles,Β represent a cause of pain for the pilgrims, and take the form of miniature silver legs, arms, hearts, and lungs.Today the church is reverentially cared for by a group of local women, volunteers called βLa Hermandad del Santo Cristo de la Saludβ (The Sisterhood of the Holy Christ of Health). It is only open on Tuesdays and religious days. This location is right next to the park of El Parque Las Palomas. They are side by side, cant miss this spot. You also have La Casa Estrecha which is located right on the opposite side of the park.
Not a big fan of San Juan but there are a few places worth visiting if you find yourself stuck here for a few hours. Some of the outlying and intercity buildings will keep your attention for a few minutes, and it gives you something to do other than drinking overpriced sugar drinks sold in fake beach bars.
IT was close when I was there for vacation.
Is a historical place to see. You cant drive there so theres a little bit of walking. There are a couple of restaurants that put their chairs and tables in the street so you will have to dodge these.Hint: go early in the morning before restaurants open to take pictures of the whole historical street.
Close as always
Neautiful
Although not open on a regular basis, it is still a nice looking structure with an interesting story.
Beautiful place to visit in San Juan, Puerto Rico!
Religious artifacts are sort of a big deal in Puerto Rico. Shires are hidden all over the place but this one seems especially large. You can light a candle here too.
Beautiful place in Puerto Rico. Very cultural and beautiful views
This is in line with one of the other cathedrals before the city was all built up with the cathedral said sightlines to different cathedrals. This has a beautiful altar and many silver and gold artifacts. What a unique history. Also by the park where you can buy pigeon food and feed the pigeons in the land and you just like in Mary Poppins.

The history of the miracles in body parts. Go and pray for your miracle
Nice historic place to visit.
Historic place
If interested in the religion & history, this is next to Pigeons Park. Trip Advisor has it marked in the wrong location. It is just above the city walls.
