Museum honoring Latin Americans with extensive artworks by Oswaldo Guayasamín & artifacts.
Do not visit this museum unless you are really interested in art. The tour of the house is VERY slow and you must stay with the guide and go at his obsessively slow pace. The museum is a cathedral to the artist who the guides seem to worship, which is ironic as he was an atheist who seems to have hated popularism. His "Age of Anger" pictures are vast and disturbing, he knew how to express human misery. This is a good place to come if you think the world is OK and want to be convinced that it isnt.
Very cool, though the tour is no-nonsense and doesn’t offer a ton of context. Be prepared for very heavy subject matter. The art is gorgeous
Awesome museum dedicated to Guayasamin and his collection! Very knowledgeable English guide!
This is an amazing beautiful place. If you travel to countries and want to know the artist that may have had a part of changing that culture then Capilla del Hombre is for you. The house tour and art museum is absolutly amazing.
A beautiful building on the outside. Inside the space is dramatic. An appropriate way to display the paintings of Ecuadors greatest artist.
Interesting museum, impressive architecture, nice staff with knowledge - we got free tours (from family members of the artist!).
Still my favorite place on earth
Expensive in Ecuador at 10$ per person. You can’t enter the house museum without a guide. So you are guided around in a big group and not allowed to venture too far. But seeing the studio was cool. The capilla is impressive, big, and without a lot of explanation.
Amazing art, somber ethos.
The unfinished masterpiece by Guayasamin features his series about human misery. The art subject us not very happy but still the man had an undeniable talent to pass his vision to the admirer of his work.
Amazing place. Magical and beautiful
Fantastic museum worth your time. Very interesting artist, everyone should go here likes art!
Very interesting artwork from Guayasamín. We were grateful for an English speaking tour guide
Very nice complex, definitely worth a visit. The tours were super interesting and the staff was really nice.
Its a beautiful place. Guayasamin left the best of his art in his house. He was an excellent ecuadorian citizen of the world. 100% recommended.
Very interesting museum and estate with a focus on human rights. Emotional, but well done. English or Spanish tour available (tip if you would like). You can only walk through house with a tour/guide; wish we had more time in the house. Worth a visit!!!
Must see for art enthusiasts!❤️🤗
As advertised, the monument of the equator is a must-see if you are in or around Quito. Depending on the time of day (preferably in the afternoon), you will get better pictures on the back side of the monument because you don’t have to worry about as many guests walking through and photobombing your selfie’s/posed pictures
This museum is Oswaldo Guayasamíns masterwork. He was an ecuadorian painter and sculptor. This museum documents mans cruelty but also the potential for greatness within humanity. If you are in Quito and loves art this is a must.
Visited the place for a fashion show, however it’s an awesome museum of the well recognized painter Guyasamin. Quiet place to free your mind
Very interesting and moving museum imaginated by the artist Oswaldo Guayasamin to celebrate human unity in peace. Among many of his paintings, a flame is burning in the middle of this peaceful shrine. Also very interesting house nearby, where he used to live his last years, to discover more about his passion for ancient art and his relationships with other personnalities (tremendous video with Paco de Lucia)
Beautiful architecture, paintings, jewelry... A feast for art lovers, and for people interested in Guayasamíns life and work
We dont know how this place doesnt get more traffic and visitors. This is a first-class museum and should be an icon of Quito. Not only do you get great views from the exterior, but the interior of the Capilla and the artwork it is home to is emotional, touching, and impactful. The tour of home is also nice. We took a Cabify here from La Mariscal and it was pretty straightforward to also get picked up as well (we had reception). The cafe seemed closed when we were there (maybe the person who was manning to counter went on break). Good for any art-lover.
Definitely worth visiting. A masterpiece of modern art.The Guayasamin museum and house right next to the chapel are also very interesting and worth visiting. The view of the city from here is also great.
It is a must when in Quito!! Learn about one of the most relevant painters of Ecuador, and immerse yourself in his messages and opinions about love, war, racism, colonialism and art. The guides English was flawless and the tours were incredibly interesting.
Oswaldo Guayasamín´s beautifull rememberance. A must see for every visitor in Quito.
The museum and adjoining house is spectacular. Definitely worth the $8s which includes a tour in English or Spanish. We spent over 2 hours enjoying Guayasamins work and collections
Really nice museum, have free guides in English and Spanish. Little bit expensive, 8$ entrance.
Wow! This place is beautiful and filled with wonderful works of art. I swear its much bigger on the inside than the outside. Admission is a bit steep at $8 a head but once you get in and have the tour you will feel the money was well spent. Dont miss this.
If you do one activity outside of Old Town Quito, make it this one. Simply outstanding. A rare opportunity to delve into the deeply personal aspects of a creative mind by observing the artists lifetime acquisition of treasured articles just as he situated them. The collection, curation, setting, presentation -- all outstanding.
One of the best modern art museums in the Americas!
An amazing museum with a great exhibition. You should definitely visit both the house and the museum. The tours are great. Well worth the $8 and I am a cheap traveler. Bring your student card for a discount.
The museum has two sections: 1the museum and 2the house and studio. The museum has a broad selection of works and the display is stunning. High ceilings in some halls allow full appreciation of the towering works. The gift shop is in this building. The house keeps you in a group for the tour. Art in the house is smaller in scale but impressive. The studio was a dramatic work space. There is also a small outdoor sculpture garden within the grounds of the house. Awesome experience. Highly recommend.
Such an amazing story is told here. The tour was in depth, engaging, and evocative. Its the kind of art that makes you pause and think and discover something within yourself. Beautiful buildings & home, as well as all of the art, itself. Plan to spend two hours here or a bit more if you choose to wander the gardens also. Must visit!
Very impressive. You get a guided tour with the entry fee. One in the house and one in the chapel. The artist Guayasamin built the chapel for a meaning behind it - wich you can explore during your visit. The house felt magic to me and the chapel introduced me to an authentic experience.
This is an amazing place. The capilla is an architectural tribute housing the work of the Ecuadorian master Oswaldo Guayasamin. The building and the paintings work together to create a powerful experience. The site is perched upon high and offers a stunning view of the city. Guayasamins home and studio are also open and can be visited as well. Guided tours are included in the price of admission.
this is a great space with beautiful and moving works by guayasamin. unfortunately, he died before finishing the works he had planned for the space but drafts of the pieces have been displayed instead without it feeling unfinished. there is a short video and then a guided tour included with the admission. no photos allowed inside ☹️
Really enjoyed seeing the stellas donated to the museum by other Latin American countries. The museum itself holds beautiful, gigantic paintings in a modernist building.
Hard to put in words how amazing os the house and museum of Oswaldo Guayasamín. Majestic museum (cameras not allowed inside Capilla del Hombre, same for Guayasamíns house), interesting tour in his house and private studio. A must in Quito!!
this was probably the best museum that i visited (for artin quito. touring the artist’s home and private collection was almost as intriguing as viewing all of personal works. the grounds and the view are lovely, as well. there is also a small gift shop where you can purchase prints, souvenirs and even originals. the most impressive aspect was the magnitude of the size of his works and how beautifully they were displayed around the building. the least impressive(and reason for only 4 starswas the staff. every employee there, except for the women waxing the floor, was extremely cold and seemed bothered that a visitor would have a question to ask them.
This place is simply incredible. Make sure you take a guided tour inside of the museum to learn more about each painting (each one has a very interesting story behind it). After you visit Capilla del Hombre, go visit the Casa Museo, where Guayasamin spent his last 20 years. This house has an impressive collection of precolombian, colonial and modern art that complements the original artwork of this renowned painter. You also get to visit his studio and get a glimpse of how he worked and how he got inspired to produce so many pieces of art.
The Art is exquisite and impressive. Great knowledgeable tour guides. Clean and just amazing
Very interesting and the free tours are worth it. Guayasamin was very talented and his opus magnum will leave you feeling overwhelmed but hopeful for the future. Well in other words youll need a beer after!
Eight dollars the entrance fee is not bad at all to see incredible artwork. Beutiful place to spend at least 2hrs looking at a lot of the things Guayasamin did and how he did it. Its definitely worth your time.
Beutiful house and beutiful museum. They offer tours in Spanish and English quite often. The whole time I was there, staff where friendly and eager to answer any questions I could have. The art touches on political and historical issues of latinamerica.
It was a wonderfully curated Museum and seemed to be quite enlightening to an artists long and productive career who had been able to mingle amongst many other prominent political figures of his time.It was all so wonderfully informative about human suffering and the artists portrayal of such within the Latin American continent.
This is a magic place where you can find some of Guayasamins paints, Ecuadorian painter, sculptor and idealist. Once you get in, you can take the guided tour in which the guide explain each paint or group of paintings in order you can understand the passion and feelings of this amazing artist. Also you can find certified copies and many souvenirs. I loved this place ♥
Great architecture and moving paintings.
Stunning piece of architecture to show some of his work about the struggles of humanity. Powerful pieces individually, as well as together with the building and location. Great views of the city and surrounding mountains from the site and his house above.
A really nice museum to visit. You can also visit Guayasamins house and see all the collections he had. Recomended
