The 366-hectare reserve offers an 1851 lighthouse & an old military fort, plus trails & a bird hide.
Nice view, amazing work of God
Beautiful place, but there doesnt seem to be anything happening there the moment
Beautiful scenery 🤩
Lovely reserve. Very peaceful.
Ive been here multiple times at various hours & Ive never been required to pay any contribution. The effectiveness of the guard at the gate to the reserve is highly questionable. It is absolutely gorgeous. The entire coastline is actually stunning, but the reserve could use a little TLC. Im glad to see the light-house is open again for tours, because presence will hopefully go a long way to address the abalone poaching problem in the reserve. Its not recommended to go on the trails alone, especially during the week.Great for runs, birding, hiking, & SANCCOB is nearby giving tours of their own.
This is not a place to go without company. You could be alone & stranded & theres poor network signal. The views of the ocean & waves are great & breathtaking 😍
Beautiful! Amazing views!
Beautiful scenery and safe
Nice & quite place.... Beautiful pucture opportunities
A super serene place, full of historic landmarks.Quiet. Beautiful. Very scenic. The old lighthouse is a dramatic sight to behold, and there is a very nice walking beach all around.
Beautiful clean and quiet beach
You have to buy a ticket for R88 at the lodge to get in.We enjoyed our drive around the reserve and especially the Lighthouse. It was a treat to see all the birds, fish and crabs along the shore.
What an incredible spot to visit to discover a little bit of PEs history. Beautiful views, the area is spotlessly clean, quiet and private with very few people coming through on a weekday - perfect for a beach picnic on your day off. The lighthouse is an Instagrammers dream, and the surrounding area offers so many photo ops - perfect for Influencers. ❤
What an incredible place, wonderful area, fresh ocean breeze and incredible sights. Super fantastic time. Will definitely be back.
Beautiful place and so scenic!!!
Wonderful quiet beach. Was very windy while we were there but we found a nice spot.
3 words come to mind: The great escape! This place is both scenic and tranquil.I highly suggest
So peaceful coming here and the birdlife is incredible.
Beautiful scenery and awesone nature walk along the rocky coast line.... just so sad that the lighthouse and access road are totally delapidated. Where is the NMBMs and SA Port maintenance teams? So shocking
Its such a beautiful spot however due to years on neglect, the sand covered most of the road, the buildings are in very bad condition, I wish they could maintain this gorgeous place for tourism purpose.
Beautiful and a good spot to stroll and yes a fishing paradise too.
Theres no much to see, theres great views for pictures though
Its a reserve beach shore. No swimming allowed. Access fee payable. The lighthouse is what attracted us(travellers).
It was very windy when I got to this place but the experience was amazing.
Beautiful scenery and peaceful. Love that place
Very clean and well maintained nature reserve. We will definitely be back!
Absolutely gorgeous. The trail was about 9.5 km kid friendly it wasnt steep at all, very easy to follow. Highly recommend it especially early morning would definitely do it again.
The place is very beautiful, Monroe environment. There are many hills surrounded by small greenery, some birds, huge sea in front, here Darale seems to be at the end of the world.
Buy a permit if requested on the day and take in a scene of the bay that hardly ever makes waves. After a mini narrow coast commute- (no, really narrow, watch out for oncoming traffic-one is richly rewarded for the off route turnoff to the slightly lesser know reserve. Left at the Y junction & park just to the right of the enthralling desert mimicking entre. Walk off the tar from the last connection to civilization the right into a mesmerizing blend of desolation and eeriness. The aging lighthouse and remnant surroundings are a surprising relatively not so distant sight to behold.A mini jewel becoming more of a captivating relic by the season.Traverse the rising placid dunes to be met by a gated, locked and high walled former access beacon to the coastline. Gated but not entirely inaccessible, the hill like towering bite size sand dunes make for a launch pad to breach the supposedly raised wall. Which would probably be something you would not need to do.. not that there are trespassing detectives on duty, but the modern upgrades makes the area seem off limits.Later at dusk the silhouettes of the lighthouse and the accompanying metal tower adopts a thrilling allure. Though this is a pretty pretty distance away from nearby civilization, that allure becomes infallibly haunting. Something to either admire in thought or daringly otherwise experience. The perfect spot to gaze on picturesque sunsets hanging over ravishingly graceful rockladen coastline.
It was a long but worth it hike with breathtaking views. Upon arrival I got a map of the hiking trail at the Pine Lodge reception which wasn’t of much use because the trek has clear direction arrows. You can’t enter the Cape Recife Lighthouse but there’s a bird sanctuary along the route with an admission fee of R45 for adults and R30 for children and pensioners.
I liked this place. I like that it is accessible and the beauty of the area is preserved. Great experience for me.
Beautiful lighthouse built in 1849. Located in Cape Recife Nature Reserve, Schoenmakerskop, Nelson Mandela Bay(Port Elizabeth). Closeup views can be tricky as only authorized vehicles are allowed inside perimeter where buildings are located. Definitely worth a visit as you will also pass SANCCOB Port Elizabeth, where one can view the rehabilitation of marine animals in particular the African Penguin. Lovely place to take photos
Cape with sand almost to the tip. Light house looks deserted.Nice hiking trails nearby.
Prestine beach. Tranquil and with a mysterious quality about it. Not overrun in the least. A place to forget all your troubles for a while and recharge your batteries. Popular with fishermen. Entry permits available at Pine Lodge. It was about R70 per vehicle and allows one access for 7 days.
Beautiful place for a long walk and admiring the beach. There are many birds along the coast and it’s possible to see some wild animals as well. The lighthouse itself it’s a good place to take photos.
Lovely beach clean and pretty views!
Amazing place. Lots of cool facts about maritime history. Quiet beaches around to just hang. Really amazing place!
Lovely nature reserve and great beaches around the lighthouse for nice walks.
Beautiful lighthouse and surrounds. Spent the afternoon photographing the sunset. Lovely pristine coastline with easy access after buying a permit at the boom. Highly recommended for photography and even as a wedding photographic backdrop.Good fishing around the lighthouse as well Im told. But just go there for a relaxing time and take in the beauty of the area.
Beautiful spot and lovely sceneries with the rocky shores and sandy beach... check the weather forecast as it gets very windy though.
Lovely beach and sight seeing.
So quiet, beautiful views and amazing photography opportunities
Its a light house,, looks very niceDo not know if it it does public tours, no info available... Pity...
Can get some nice pictures on a clear blue sky day... 😊
Beautiful place to chill and relax in nature reserve close to PE. Super place to come with friends and have a picnic or lie down in the sand. The road from Pine lodge to the lighthouse is also nice short track for cycling with childern, there is no traffic.
Awesome little Reserve.Rugged and most beautiful at low tide!
Absolutely beautiful & so serene! Just remember to get a permit to visit the lighthouse.
Lighthouse is only open on appointment. Beach is good for beach combing. Nice for pictures.
We took a long walk along the beach in the moonlight to end up at this lighthouse. If you love the beach and have the right company this is a very enjoyable place to visit and holds a beauty in its history.
Its just a simple lighthouse. You can enjoy the view of the sea but you cannot access the lighthouse itself. Its fine for a visit.
