Cape Agulhas Lighthouse in Bredasdorp
Description
Privilege
Definitely worth a visit. View from the top amazing. Friendly and informed staff.
MoreCape Agulhas Lighthouse is smaller than the others in height it seems. It has three floors of upward stairs to reach the top of the lenses. Its really a nice view from the top of the same. Thanks
MoreOur 1st visit and it was great... Windy but we loved a piece of beauty of our own country
MoreExcellent view from the top across the ocean beautiful scenery just the stairs are very steep. But worth it to get to the top.
MoreStunning accessible walkways. Busy with renovation were to late to enter museum will have to return
MoreWonderful lighthouse museum, it’s awesome to experience the history first hand and actually climb the lighthouse stairs.
MoreBeautiful place. A must-see for all. The nature reserve does not allow any dogs any more. There is various species of creatures and birds that is breeding and nesting and they need to be protected.
MoreWe had a really fun experience climbing the 2nd oldest lighthouse still in operation in South Africa. It was exciting learning about the history, climbing the lighthouse, and watching it operate at night.
MoreInteresting building. good views but be prepared for steep steps and ladders. 71 steps. A bit of a challenge but worth if for the views
MoreA must do part of the Southern Tip of Africa experience. Spend the money and climb the 70+ steep steps to the top, it is so worthwhile. Very welcoming staff, too
MoreIt is an interesting experience to climb up the light house. You should not be afraid of height though.
MoreImpressive!! Very nice lighthouse in a very cool place!!
What a great place to visit. Put it on your bucket list.
A quiet, peaceful and beautiful scenery. I don’t know about the inside of the lighthouse but the outside and surroundings are all good. Great for an afternoon/morning walk
MoreLovely day with best views from the top of the lighthouse. Experience and memories for life.
MoreI particularly enjoyed the climb to the top.... stunning view of the sea. A small but extremely informative museum as well if youre fascinated by lighthouses like me! Very authentic feel.
MoreWonderful experience to climb to top beautiful view
The southernmost lighthouse in Africa. Quite imposing. I did not get to visit it unfortunately, but it looks imposing.
MoreWow what amazing views. Very well maintained. Very clean. Enjoyed trip.
Nice cosy place with a view of the ocean. Very friendly staff. The place is owned by an elderly couple who are very welcoming and friendly.
MoreAmazing views from the top! An authentic experience! Very well maintained.
a Little windy ontop of the lighthouse (not for the faint hearted),the museum is a must visit.
MoreLovely visit and tricky climb to the top but well worth it.
Another wonder, Southernmost tip of Africa... Tickets can be bought there to visit to Lighthouse. Its fun & adventure to climb up to Look ligthouse with kids. Advisable to carry warm clothes/ windcheaters as its get windy and cold.
MoreMagnificent setting. Friendly attendant. Unfortunately I could not climb the stairs to the top as I would not have been able come down -terrified of heights. 😀
MoreGreat opportunity to climb up to the top of the lighthouse.... Took the whole family 👪 including a three year old girl... Its not for the faint-hearted or claustrophobic and/or acrophobic... But what one gets at the top is amazing... A view of the southern most tip of Africa 🌍.... So great.
MoreThis is a very nice place but going up is a mission because its a ladder instead of stairs, you must be not shy of heights. The wind on top is mind blowing🙄
MoreGoing up those very steep staircases gave us a different kind of thrill. To get to the top was such an achievement and the views were stunning.
MoreWe were unable to go inside on our visit as the queues were just too long. It is a nice stop on the way to the southernmost tip of Africa.
MoreMost amazing views and experience. If you are going to visit the light house and go inside, the ladders up are steep and its very windy up there so please be careful.
MoreA beautiful view from the top. A experience for sure. The last ladder climb is a tricky one. If you have bad knees or afraid of heights, climbing the 70 steps might not be for you. You can stil admire it from the outside.Staff is very friendly.
MoreVery old building with lot of history.Unfortunately the place was found dirty, very dusty. There was also rubbish, including some plastics on the floor.A pity that is not maintained as should be.
MoreUnexpectedly, we need to climb so high! But it was funEnjoy the view from the most southern part of Africa
MoreBeing on the southern tip of Africa is a memorable experience but beyond that, nature is well preserved.
MoreAt the southern most tip of Africa, this is a gem and it gives great views over the entire area. The steps are very steep and it can be challenging so climb carefully, but getting to the top is totally worth it.It costs R35 per person to go up and its best to wait for other to come down before making your way to the top.Bathrooms are clean and accessible.
MoreThe lighthouse (while still temporarily closedis a good place to start a short coastal walk to the tip of Africa. You can park at the bottom where there are public toilets and then there is a nice path to the tip from the base of the lighthouse.
MoreHistorical Ligthouse on most southern tip of the Africa. Stunning view from the top makes it perfect spot to enjoy yourself. Dont rush, take your time to walk around and discover small details. Ladders are very steep on the way up almost vertical. Small fee is charged to go up. Not to be missed.
MoreWhat an awesome experience.....scary climb for the kids and even for me but enjoyed every bit.. lovely view! Accordantly to the staff the lighthouse is haunted by day between the hours of 11am and 1pm!
MoreBeautifully kept area. Climbing to the top of the lighthouse was quite an experience , and very rewarding because of the view. Well worth seeing.
MoreBeautiful lighthouse.Breathtaking view. The climb to the top will leave you satisfied and glad you were brave enough to challenge your fear of heights.
MoreWe went on a cold day. Have extra jackets. Pack a lunch, not much in the way of halaal food. Rock pools to explore and an amazing copper 3d map of Africa. Fun for the whole family.
MoreThe last time I visited the old lady was before the restoration started. Great to see the amazing work done to let her light shine for another 150 years. Now with the addition of the museum, and the amazing ride over, well worth the visit. I just miss the old tea room.
MoreAn adrenaline filled climb for me as I have a a minor fear of hights, but it was definitely worth it!😊 The birds eye view of the area is absolutely breathtaking and it was an amazing experience. The ladders to the top are very stable, just dont look down. The staff is very friendly and has a lot of knowledge about the area. I love the little museum at the bottom, its very interesting. Highly recommend coming here when in the area. 💯
MoreBeautiful place to visit. Friendly staff. Lovely exhibition. Great experience to climb to the top. I believe if you arent a fan of small spaces, the last stretch to the top might be challenging. Also, if you are afraid of heights, this could also be something you might want to experience from the side-line. Fantastic panaramic views. Great photo opportunities.
MoreWhat an awesome historical wonder! Great views, terrifying climbs but worth the while! Fantanstic museum pieces about the history of Lighthouses in SA and around the World.
MoreLovely walk and great seeing the icon at the southernmost point in Africa. Do climb all the stairs in the light house and hold tight when outside to marvel in the glorious site of Agulhas
MoreDrive down to the town of Agulhas can be seem never ending as it appears as though the shoreline is never in sight. The effects of the drought in the area are also evident. However, once you get to the town, you find a hive of activity in summer with modern homiday homes strewn along the coast. Best of all is when you finally make it to the tip of Africa. What a beautiful country South Africa is. Torquise blue water all around you and a spot marking where the two oceans meet. You can not tell the two oceans apart when looking at them as there are no distinctive lines. There is also a huge concrete map of Africa close by marking the attraction. Does get busy during the peak holiday period and parking area does get full. Boardwalks available are nicely done to mark each pathway. Lighthouse is simply amazing and views from the top are breathtaking. Climb up is a bit hairy and when busy you often have to wait for people at each landing area. 71 steps to the top but worth every step. An absolute must. One point of concern is that there was no entrance fee required when entering the park. SAN PARKS must charge a fee in future i order to raise funds for the upkeep of the park. A fee of R33 is however payable to access the lighthouse.
MoreA view of the Southern Most Point in Africa. The stairs are steep, nearly like climbing a ladder, so wear good shoes. If you have flip-flops, be ready to take them off for extra grip. The museum is informative and gives a nice overview of the lighthouse system in South Africa.
MoreTheres not much to do here except to take pictures and walk up the light house. Its better to park at the entrance and walk the rest of the way, that way you can take in more of the scenery and get that step counter active. There are a couple of restaurants nearby, but you can also drive down to struisbaai to enjoy a swim and get some of the local fish and chips.
MoreSecond time visiting this very historic place for Africans or tourists in general. One of the local told us about the shipwreck that we just had to go see...and if you pay the meager amount of R30 you have the opportunity to go up the lighthouse and have a perfect 360° view of your surroundings. We had perfect weather which made this experience even extra special. And when youre done savour some of the local food...mmm
