Candlelight Restaurant and Lounge in Portland

Came in to wet my whistle.When ordering my drink, with a smile the bartender asked if I would like to see the menu.Not planning on getting food I said yes. Before you know it I see biscuits and gravy and a half order very reasonable.Talking with the bartender we chatted about making biscuits fresh and about having a solid gravy that is ready for a customer to add more to it vs having too much already.I decided order the B&G and with full delights it was perfect. Especially with one of my favorite hot sauces on top.Stiff dranks, great food, chill environment.Recommended.

We come here after we play tennis on Sundays. The food is consistent and good diner food. They have slot machines and a pool table. Waitress is really sweet.

Someone I was with was being constantly harassed & bullied by an obviously drunk regular, over her poker machine. Staff did nothing till it really started to escalate..it lasted way too long. Spent $80 on food and it wasnt near as good as I remembered from a few years back.

I only played poker here and it was a very brief visit but on average if youre there for poker you can expect to be ignored by the bar maid and thats every time I e been there. And why is it that bars charge for soda if playing poker and poker delis as in Dotty and others like it, offer free soda?

Old bbq pork, terrible general TSO, My husband ordered orange chicken and we got everything to go and they put it in an orange chicken sauce box for us to take home lol

I come here all the time the staff are friendly and willing to learn to make any drink I want.

Best no window low light amazing ac bar around. Lots of regulars and bar staff kills it. Michael is my personal favorite. Straight to the point, pours are hard and funny banter. Breakfast is pretty good.

This place would have four star if we hadnt had to sit in the bar, good hot Chinese/ American chinese, tasty, hot, and fresh and very good customer service and good $$

Staff here,are not RUDE...But I dont think I could use the word:"NICE" either! Its almost as if they dont want to be there&are forcing even speaking to you(@least ME!)...It could just be ME? And maybe they for some reason: dont care for me.But Ive probably been there a total of maybe 5-7 times&my experience is ALWAYS been exactly the same. No matter whose working behind their bar.

Open for takeaway and lottery during extreme risk county COVID measures.My goto American breakfast spot in the morning. Great dive bar and comfort Chinese food in the evening. No matter what time of day this is an original, genuine Portland spot.

First of all I tried 3 different times weeks apart to call my order in ahead of time but no one answers the phone. The first time I went in to order about 45 min before closing the bartender said it was too late, the kitchen was closed. ( Dont bars have to offer something to eat because of the alcohol?). The next time I went in to order a couple nights ago the bartender was unbelievably rude, & wishy-washy. When we asked him questions about what was on the menu he said he didnt know, didnt know, didnt know. Then when we wanted to sub something and we were confused about the wording of something on the menu, all of the sudden he was the menu EXPERT! He had worked there 6 years and knows everything about the menu, the restaurant, ect. We felt like we should have stood up to his bully like behavior, but we were starving and didnt want to be thrown out.. When our to go order arrived it looked fabulous. Good portions , looked fresh, good value for the price.. EXCEPT the sauces.... The red sauce and hot mustard tasted watered down and had a very odd taste/after taste. My friend actually wondered if he may have done "something" to our sauces... So, yeah, thats my experience of the Candlelight ...

Best breakfast in this area and inexpensive. I ordered my eggs over medium and crispy hash browns and they were PERFECT!.... Good corn beef hash as well.. cheerful and friendly bartender/waitress. I will be back FOR SURE.

Love Suzi and Jared The Bartenders and the best atmosphere of old and young mixed together. They have an awesome selection of chinese and american food. I would totally recommend this bar to friends

Great dive bar, great American breakfast, nice staff. Some of the locals are a little colorful! My favorite memory was being called a pansy by some intoxicated ladies!

Food was really good theres nothing really wrong here. I love breakfast and I love a place that serves a late breakfast since I work late I dont wake up until 10 which is when most places stop serving breakfast... Can you tell I love breakfast.

Food straight from grandmas kitchen. So tasty every time. Fantastic prices, and a wonderful waitress that never fails to greet you with coffee the moment you sit down. Just wish the diner was open for a little longer each day. Get a farmers scramble with a mimosa for breakfast. Its a fantastic way to start a Sunday then immediately end it lol. Love this place. Karaoke in the bar too!(on thursdays i think, could be wrong.)

Newly terrible service! I’ve been coming to this place for almost 12 years. Always good service and basic good diner food. This past month or two there is a newer server who is HORRIBLE. I’ve seen people just get up and leave because she never even comes over to take an order. She doesn’t have an OLCC license, so you have to go next door to get your own drinks which is weird but ok I guess...but then that’s one less thing she has to deal with, so what is the hold up with everything else? I’ve worked as a server for most of my life, and this is some of the worst service I’ve never seen. So disappointing.

The staff is so nice! My kiddo loves the biscuits and gravy, and the amazing waitress we see every time. Great value on the breakfast specials, too.

I ordered take out Chinese food at 10 oclock at night. Its the worst food Ive ever had in my life. We couldnt eat it was so badd. Even the fried shrimp was so badd you couldnt eat it. We got 2 boxes a child main. One in the number 8 and 1 out the number 10 both were just complete boxes of cooked onions The fried rice was horrible. We got egg foo young it was so badd you couldnt eat it we had to throw the whole thing away the dog wouldnt even eat it. Im not the type to usually complain at all but I felt completely ripped off I bought all that food and had to throw away it was so badd every bit of it was badd none of it was good at all. It was the worst food experience Ive ever had in my whole life.

We went there for Chinese food and had a combo. The food tasted like it had been deep-fried in days-old oil. Everything was greasy and barely edible. We left after eating only a couple of mouth-fulls of food. Wont be back despite living near-by.

I just pure and simple enjoy the Candlelight Restaurant. One waitress is always very friendly and just loves to talk, I cant remember her name or the days she works. The other waitress isfriendly enough but leans towardcrankiness. The food is mostly goodand the prices reflect my income.

Honestly I havent eaten here ,I just was curious and stopped in for a drink with a friend. We were treated by Susie the bartendres and the fun started. Its easy to see why the lacals come in for a fun and no judgement night of festivities and livations. I gave a 3 star not because it wasnt a five star experiance. I highly recommend stopping in for fun and the new friends you will meet here.

Its a horrible eyesore inside and out but the employees are friendly and the food is great. So come in and decide for yourself. Great beer prices also.In addition to my previous review the service has vanished almost literally got there at 5 p.m. with my daughter to eat and literally nobody was in the cafe no employees no customers went into the back Lounge to try and find an employee found some kind of seasonal company party and no employees anywhere to be found finally left after 15 minutes of waiting. Probably never going to return after receiving such horrible service.

Unfortunately i had an irritating first impression of this bar. We went to order food and the whole time we waited for our mushroom swiss burger and beef and broccoli we had to listen to this gaggle of people being loud and obnoxious. Near the end of our visit we learned that an old man in the group was celebrating his birthday with family and friends so i wont base the whole of this place by that 1 night. I will be going back because while it is simple, that mushroom swiss burger was good

Food took 40 mins for Biscuits and gravy and pancakes, and came out ranging from mediocre and undercooked to completely inedible. Coffee was thin, burnt and watery, but not as watery as the Tabasco sauce which seemed to be translucent. Extremely inexpensive though, the total experience was around $16. Ive eaten at a lot of diners and have had a lot of breakfast traveling around for work, but this one was definitely one of the most memorable for wrong reasons.

I dont drink, but I meet some friends here who say the drinks are strong and inexpensive. I had breakfast and the food was just ok. Two small biscuits, a little ham, and a small portion of scrambled eggs. Nothing noteworthy. Id give it three stars, but the bathrooms were HORRIBLE. Cmon folks, the thought of your cookstaff using a bathroom that is so filthy I could barely breathe is just gross.

Taste gross. I went in there to pick up a meal. I didnt notice all the ants all over the tables in there until coming back from the bathroom. The order was ready so I took it. We went to where my sister was at and had lunch with her. None of us ate all of our meal I never had a place where I couldnt eat fried rice or chicken or pork those are two things that you should never have a problem eating if I could I would

The bar tenders are so great! Friendly fast thoughtful service, when I come here it is for them. Rhe bartenders get FIVE STARS. The kitchen tho...The fried rice is legit but seriously, the food menu really needs to be updated. The blt special is a very respectable meal for four bucks. You wont find any mozz sticks here sadly. And I cant really recommend you order anything else off the menu unless you want some greasy grease.

Stopped to use their "customers only" restroom, on accident, so I had breakfast. The locals obviously know this place. There were many. Bottom line: My eggs were cooked perfectly. The service was fast and friendly and it was worth my time to give them a good review. Thanks

A very odd restaraunt: American diner by morning and Chinese restaraunt by night. The food wasnt all that great and the server was really chatty-but then again we had gone in with a regular so that could have just been their relationship. The prices were decently cheap but as far as breakfast goes, its not the best.

I go here, mostly for karaoke. Decent crowd and a good song selection. Food is solid, no complaints. I really just wish they had more beer on tap. A bit small for two pool tables but they have them. Good local spot.

100% recommend the biscuits & gravy. So good. Ive been coming here for years for breakfast & its my favorite.Not hispstery, legit food, reasonably priced. The servers are 2 nice older ladies who know the regulars and do their job well.

1st time here and the bartender who checked my ID has the worst attitude ever! Then my group ordered a basic drinks(a boilermaker and Tom Collinsand the bartenders had no idea what they were. We had to teach them how to make the drinks! I could get past teaching something but the attitude and being told that my drink was old and only old people order it is my line. We wont be back.

I love this place. Maybe I am bias because my mom is the waitress and has worked their for 10+ years though lol. But she is the nicest lady and loves to take care of her customers so I am sure you wont be disappointed if you stop in for some breakfast😊

Bar is a little divey but fun. Bartenders are great including Lance, Mike, Marlene and Suzie! Been going here off and on for about 5 years. Oh and there chicken wings are awesome! plain but the breading is good and you can get hot sauce of BBQ sauce on the side to dip them in. There breakfast is pretty good to for a fair price as well. Drinks are good with a decent selection of beers on tap. I just wish you could smoke on there patio.

I had a horrible experience her on 06/23/2017. We showed up close to closing time ~1:50AMThey close at 2:30AM. While drinking our drinks, they started yelling very loudly at everyone to finish, and we felt very unwelcome. We asked about last call and they told us that they dont do that :(. Is that a thing? Do bars not do last call any more? They just yell at you when they want you out? They served us a drink ten minutes before they kicked us out. Is that a real thing? Im so confused. :(

We arrived a few minutes before 2am. They took our drink order and delivered it promptly. Ten minutes later, servers yelled rudely... "Drink it up, sponges, and get out!" Um, excuse me, but I just got here and you didnt let me know it was past last call. When I asked what time last call was, a guy with blond hair and glasses said he doesnt do last call. I said I just got here and Ive had a really horrible experience. "Well, have a good night," he said. An extra star for hosting karaoke, but Im never going back. They obviously dont care about my business.

I have only had their breakfast menu items, my favorite is the farmers scramble! Fast service, sometimes food is a little slow so I try not to come here if Im in a rush.Only complaint is I was disappointed when I ordered blueberry pancakes, the waitress said they dont have blueberries. 😭

I liked the karaoke and the bartenders at the candle light. The only reason I didnt give this place a 5 was that there was no beer on tap. Ive never seen a bar that doesnt have beer on tap until I went to this place. Its a must to have a local beer or two on tap especially in brew city USA. The fact that they didnt have any local beers and didnt even have bud light on tap was pretty lame and its unfortunate because otherwise this is a pretty cool bar

This place is great. I cant speak on the food but I can definitely let you know that the drinks are strong and cheap just like any Chines lounge should have. Their karaoke on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays is also great.

Was my favorite Karaoke Bar around, but thats all gone now.. Will have to see how things change. The drinks are Awesome and the bartenders are Sassy. The food is average for a typical Bar/Lounge/Restaurant. They have a few video poker machines for your pleasure and a couple of pool tables as well. Will see how things go for the future..
