Camping Hamrar in Akureyri

So far one of the best campgrounds weve been during our trip

Due to thunderstorm warnings with heavy snow, it was not possible to travel for days. We stayed here for 2 nights and it was a good decision :)Large and enough space to rest, shared kitchen and toilets are well equipped in a building. Separate building for shower and more toilets which is so clean. Wi-fi and hot shower is included. The host is really kind and helpful. We recommend this place for travelers!

Biggest campsite in iceland with a nice kitchen and dining area. Staff is very helpful and friendly.

Due to the time of year the campsite started to close down some areas, well organised. The showers and toilets are ok, the sink in the ladies area needs cleaning, the water would not get away fast enough. In general a nice camping site.

Facilities are clean and the common room is cosy (didnt use the showers so wouldnt know about those). Lots of space and very calm while we were there.

Huge campsite, tons of space and activities (playground, ninja warrior mini course, walking path). Friendly staff, hot private showers (included in nightly cost), large kitchen, ample restrooms. A little pricer than others, we paid 1900kr per adult, but excellent campground well worth it.

Clean and well organized campsite accommodating tents, vans, and RV with electricity. Super clean bathrooms and individualized showers with well regulated water temperature. If you have time and the weather permits, theres a large area to walk, play frisbee, or simply watch the sunset.The common area is large and has inside and outside seating. Campingsite outside of Akureyri.They offer rooms and camping.Good kitchen, nice facilities.During bad weather the "dining room" will be too small for the amount of guests.

Big and green camping but would not recommend if you need to use the kitchen and showers. The installation are under-sized for the camping space. Only three showers for females (very small showers comparing to the 8 other campings I went tofor this very big and busy camping. Kitchen is really really tiny and the commune room is cozy and nice but once again too small for the number of people staying.The person at the entrance was nice and helpful though. Washing machine (30mn - 500 ISKand drying machine (500 ISK - 45mnare available (one each), use only 50 or 100 coins.

Important to know is that this is not a 24/7h campsite. You can not enter the property by car past midnight. Also the kitchen/common area closes at midnight and only reopens at 8AM. This is not clearly indicated on the website.

Very nice camping - spacious, clean, good facilities and a nice playground with a zip-line.

The campground is fairly far away from the city of Akureyri, if you dont have a car, prepare to walk quite a distance. The free town busses 5 and 6 stop at a newly built residential area near-ish the campground, still a long walk. The busses dont run at night, so if you arrive on the Straeto overland bus 57 (at night!), you have the choice of walking ca. 6km in the dark or getting an overpriced taxi.The campground itself is pleasant enough. The common area is nice, but not overwhelming. The common kitchen is tiny, was teeming with flies, wasnt cleaned once in the three days I was there and has not a single utensil (no pot, fork, plate, nothingand the overflowing fridge smelled really bad.The wifi is very weak and keeps cutting out.The two staff members I came in contact with (check inwere almost rude.The sleeping option of the mattress loft is a nice one.Its the cheapest accomodation in the area, but if there were other options, I wouldnt stay here again!

1900 kr per person, with discount if you stay for longer. There are nice showers, lots of sinks, washing machine and dryer (coins, 500 kr each, you can buy detergent for 100kr/bag), WIFI with amazing range and lovely common room. Common room is in the same building that kitchen and closed at 24. In kitchen there is microwave, fridge and dishwasher - thats all. A lot of space for cars and tents.

Extremely chold friendly campsite in Akureyri. Very large as well, but well organized and you feel cosy. Our kids played on the field, in the pond (hot shower next to the pond, make it possible for the kids to drop in the pond, and not get too cold. Really recommended !!

Such a beautiful campsite, nice playground and facilities for children and big space for cars and vans. All in a beautiful hill surrounded by mountains.Clean bathroom and showers, small kitchen outside in a characteristic house

If you’re going for overnight I’d recommend a different place, this seemed like a week/month long stay place. Tons of people and basically no place to setup. Also kids playing until 2300 or later

One of the best campgrounds in Iceland with loads of activities. Facilities are well spaced between 13+ zones. We stayed in zone 1 but werent impressed with the size or quality of the bathrooms. There were only 2 toilets and a sink in 2 separate bathrooms and they are in need of some TLC and more regular cleaning. In the evenings there was always a line as people were trying to brush teeth and squeeze past to get to the toilets.

Top place with a nice track for Mountainbiking!As well for hiking for sure.The place is very big, but well splitted that you will Not recognice the size the whole time.

Big campsites with lots of different fields. A lot of locals too. Facilities are OK, hot shower included. There are a lot of playgrounds for the children. Watch out with little children that cant swim though.Very close to Akureryri but still in a quiet area.

Its very simple. Hamrar is the gold standard of Icelandic campsites. Are there better ones? Might be. But then it was most likely inspired by Hamrar. :)I met with very friendly wardens, and the facilities were well maintained and clean.

One of the best campsites in Iceland. Several play areas for kids and a handful of nice nature hikes. Close to town, laundry, small kitchen, tons of bathrooms, and several rental activities, like boats and battery powered cars.

Nice campsite, super big with attraction for kids; nice warm bathrooms with showers; small kitchen with cooking area and kettle (no other equipmentand common area with few tables - WARM! I thought it would be hard to get to shower or kitchen as places are small comparing to amount of people but I was wrong. :)

Gorgeous setting for a fabulous campground. Conveniently located close to Akureyri’s city center and nestled between snow capped peaks and a pine forest. Very well managed with an entrance gate. A picturesque “log” cabin with tables, complete kitchen (fridge, stove, kettle, microwave), bathrooms, one bedroom (for rent?)and mattress on a loft floor above. Hot showers are free (included in the camping fee). There is another building with more bathrooms, washer/dryer, and even a grand hall with a stage where they may hold musical events. A third structure with bathrooms, showers and sinks is located to serve campers parked on a separate field. This campground is huge.We came in two camper vans and had tons of space to choose from. This is our favorite site from all the campgrounds we’ve visited in our two week trip around the island. We are VERY appreciate of the washer/dryers as they are quite a commodity in Iceland as the constant drizzle wets everything! Thank you Hamra Management! If there is one suggestion i could give would be to open up the grand space and allow guests to jam on stage.

Campground with good accommodation, clean bathrooms, a cabin with a kitchen (but no tools!and a lot of plugs for power. The ground is rather rocky though, as the cater more towards people in campers/trailers. They could also offer more than one dryer and washing machine for the entire grounds

Nice place with a lot of space. The facilities are good. The showers have the typical Icelandic sulfur smell.The area is nicely designed and invites for a longer stay.Good to know: There is a gate to enter the campsite - you cannot simply enter without registering in the little office. Nevertheless, it was opened even when we arrived 0:30 in the night.

The campsite is huge and very busy (on June). Hot showers, no wifi.

Very nice kitchen area ( 4-5 tables, with electric stoves, nice heated bathrooms and quite a lot of space. 1900 ISK, showers included.

Beautiful views! Washer and dryer available. Lots of playgrounds for kids. Huge campground! Multiple bathrooms and at least two different shower buildings. Kitchen is inside a building with a community room, bathroom and shower. There’s also a local trail system that is on the property known as kjarnaskogur.

This was our favorite campground. It is very clean and quiet. Well organized with friendly and accommodating staff. Great restrooms and sink area. The view is breathtaking. Highly recommend.

Just ok. They employees said there was lots of space, but there was not. We paid for power and all of the plugs were taken. Very crowded and oversold. Could not get our money back for paying for power either despite not being able to use it. 😑

Really lovely campsite with a large indoor seating and cooking area (equipped with a stove and refrigerator), clean restrooms, and beautiful views.

Big camping nice places. No warm water. Nothing to put your stuff on while trying to take a shower. Nog enough shower and washing capacity for such a large campsite. The warden is not of much help. Does nog tell you about the free city bus. Camping on Iceland remains a bit of a horror show.

Exquisite and well organised campsite. Excellent amenities and fabulous views through the trees. You could have a longer stay here as the town is big and campsite for kids.The one kitchen is small but if you are here in Summer you don’t even need it as there are tables and sinks on each toilet block. Excellent.

Very nice campground has kitchen (no pots and pans), two toilets and very nice dining room area in one building and at a bath house nice clean showers and bathrooms. Kitchen has stove for cooking. Even has a lake and activities for kids

The surroundings of this campsite are gorgeous. If you are there on a sunny day, you wont want to leave. We found everything we needed in a clean working condition.

The campsite provides all facilities you need. They have clean bathrooms with showers and a small kitchen with a living room. When we were there the kitchen and the bathroom next to the kitchen wasn’t very clean (but the bigger bathroom on the campsite was cleanand the kitchen doesn’t provide any cutlery.

Awesome campsite, stayed here my second day In Iceland. Not complicated at all, cheap, and had a kitchen. Thanks again!

We stayed there in spring in lower season.The staff were very kind.It has complete facilities.The kitchen is little and does not have cookware but it was very clean and it has a refrigerator and a dishwasher.Showers and toilets were clean. The showers have plenty of space. As a suggestion, the showers could have a chair or a table where we can let our stuff.We highly recommend this camping.

By far the best camping site Ive stayed in Iceland (I went in March). Amazing location just outside the city but still immersed in nature. Great kitchen, great showers, great living area and cute place overall. Highly recommend.

Open in Spring!!Very clean and reasonably priced. Its has every lil thing. Clean showers, and common dining areas were topnotch. They also had a dishwasher 🤯

Nice and clean kitchen, but rather small. The dining area has about 28 seats, cosy and clean. The only downside is that no utensils and cooking tools are provided. On the upside there is a dish washer! The shower room and bathroom are clean and well maintained.

Probably the best campsite we stayed on while we travelled Iceland.Hamrar was great for winter camping in our campervan. The site is well laid out and well equipped. There is a brilliant camping kitchen complete with a fridge, microwave and hobs the dining area is really good size easy to accommodate lots of groups eating at once. The toilets are clean and the showers are hot, there is even a washer and dryer for clothes wash which was very reasonable at only 500isk each (a absolute bargain compared to other sites).The site warden is a lovely gentleman who made us feel most welcome and was very knowledgeable. He help us plan our onward route and check the roads and weather to make sure we had a safe journey.The site itselfs is gorgeous, set up on the mountain side above Akureyri over looking the town below. Prefect place for the northern lights and we got a great show of them while there.This is definitely a stop you should make if you are on a ring road tour of Iceland, a perfect place to recharge before you head out in to the wild again. We will most definitely back again.Thank you to site and the staff you help make our trip a real success.

We visited end of March 22. Great site, nice kitchen and dining facilities (we didnt use the showers but I think they did have them). It was slightly confusing on paying but we went down to the building in the morning and sorted it. We were able to access the site even in the snow - roads were okay.(For comparison the sites we stayed at on Ring Road were: Skjol, Skogar, Skaftafell, Djúpivogur, Möðrudal, Hamrar, Rejkjavik)

Spacious and hot common room, very clean kitchen and shower and was open in winter, too (Feb 2022).The best camping site so far in Iceland!Super nice staff, too + you can see awesome aurora from there, if you are lucky :)

Great campground. Suuuuper big with lots of room for vans etc. We came in September so it is not peak camping time. The kitchen is small with only four burners so I suggest cooking early or later, not at regular dinner time. The facilities are nice with warm showers. Very pretty campground its easy to find a spot where you feel like you are in nature.

This was my favorite campsite we stayed at in Iceland. We have stayed at 8 different campsites so far. The grounds are beautiful and there is SO much to do here. Small ropes courses for kids, mini golf, disc golf, paddle boats. The bathrooms were very clean. There is hot water showers but the water pressure was not the best making for a slightly chilly shower. Still... the campsite is great, especially if you have kids. I highly recommend!!
