Camp Morton Provincial Park - Park and Garden in Gimli, Canada
The yurt we stayed at was very nice! The grounds were well kept but some of the historical buildings have seen better days. The staff was very friendly. 😎
Pretty nice camping experience right on the lake. Prices reflect the scant amenities. But for a basic campsite close to Gimli you cant go wrong here. Beautiful views of the lake. Nice cozy campsites. Bring earplugs to get a better sleep as noise levels arent regulated very well and its close to the highway as well.
Too many mosquitoes for my liking but what do you expect in the bush? Right? Not much beach area with sand. But nevertheless nice quiet place with a nice layout of cabins and yurts.
Kind of small, clean bathrooms, has former residential school vibes BUT IS NOT, be careful the staff do come to check on you if you go in the no staff areas lol and there are some creepy buildings.
Beautiful ski trails in Camp Morton.Access in 3 locations 1 on the west side of 9 and 2 on the east side of 9 just pick your trail and go
It was an amazing place to hangout with friends and family
Great place to bring the family camping with a beach nearby for swimming great fishing spots and gimli only a short drive away
The cabin was GREAT!But...the area itself is not so great. The beach is very rocky. There is nothing much to do with kids. BIG open spaces with nothing to see really.
Great cabins. There is a little bit to do for everyone. Gimli is about 15 minutes away. I founs the walk by the lake particularly calming.
We had a great time 😃 our first time in a yurt
PLUSES: Its easy to get to & having a cabin with plumbing for a reasonable cost is nice. Gimli is close in case you forgot anything. Chopped wood for purchase on your way in is helpful (it used to be free). Hiking trails are 2-3 km so its tolerable for kids.MINUSES: The beach is loaded with stones making it tough to walk on or spread out a blanket & do typical beach activities. No shower in the cabin bathroom, a missed opportunity.
Very nice area and camping spots. A fun beach to visit if you desire. Great historical sites to see as well.
Very interesting place, good place to rent a cabin or camp, decent beach
Stayed in the campground. Its 2km South of the original Camp Morton (there youll find the park office, and the cabins, as well as the historic buildings). The campground is basically a field-loop, with 20 or so spots. Some of the spaces are very close together... Too close together, and there is no privacy. Lot #13 seems to be the biggest, and is close to the beach. There are some big trees, which are nice. At the entrance there is a parking lot for 4-5 cars, and 2 outhouses - but no running water, (so no showers), with garbage and recycling. On the east side, there is a cliff and Lake Winnipeg. The beach is rocky. There were two picnic tables on the beach, the northern most one had a greater amount of sandy beach (and sand bars in the water). Bring water shoes! The lake is relatively shallow, so you can go in pretty deep.On the south and west side of the Camp loop, there is a treed ravine (mostly dried up creek). The kids had lots of fun catching leeches, frogs, and bugs. Theres a sign saying "dangerous bridge" or something to that effect. The bridge is long gone... Just walk around the sign and head down the trail to the beach. Keep in mind theres no lifeguard here. While the North is treed with some grass trails. The trails were really fun to bike/walk. Very low difficulty level. In the winter they serve as cross country ski trails. Its important to note the wind. I read something about an "abundance of fresh air" at the Camp Morton Park - something theyre proud of. In the evenings the wind comes off the lake and doesnt let up... So you hear it all night long.Overall its fine, but I dont expect to come back any time soon, without a hard walled camper...
Walking around the park and enjoying the unique architecture in itself deserves a trip to the park, swimming and cabins are the bonus!
Beautiful historic park with a serene atmosphere on the lake. I would love to go back and hike around more or stay overnight.
Great place to come and enjoy the week or weekend cabins and park area are great ! Beach not so much rocky and Very sharp feet cutting ZEBRA MUSSELS!
We stayed In a cabin, and it was very nice, the beach was great, very uncomfortable beds, but thats ok, and the showers were alright. The campsites on the other hand look terrible. We drove over there to check the out and its just small field with campers around it 0 privacy unless you set up some curtains or something, and the showers are about 10 minutes away, driving. Would not recommend camping, but the cabins and yurts were great
Thats nice place to have a day trip. Very cool, calm & relaxing place to visit. You can spend a night out there, but book a resort in advance. Only 1.5 hour drive from Winnipeg.
Nice, quiet park for camping in cabins or yurts. Situated right on the shore of Lake Winnipeg. Cabins are cozy and provide a great family adventure.
Little piece of heaven for my wife and I and the newest member of the family Loki loves the walks and the water
Wow had an amazing time in cabin 09-A at camp morton , bring your own everything but furniture though ex.. tv towels food sheets bed linen etc... But its great wow 😍😍😍😍
Not busy. Very peaceful and quiet. Had a lovely picnic. Could not ask for better weather andno crowds. Had a beautiful day.
The cabin were great, clean and cozy. The heating system worked like a charm and we did not feel the cold in the evenings/night. Due to covid there was no check in process, we just entered the cabin with an access code. Everything was sparkling clean inside, had running water, stove, fridge and microwave. The unit has a toilet, but no showers inside the cabin. The prices are very cheap and affordable, but as a result its pretty hard to book reservations.
Decent cross country ski trails maintained by volunteers of Gimli Cross Country Ski Club.
What a beautiful place. So many different spots for gorgeous pictures. Not too far of a drive from Winnipeg, beautiful drive to by the way. So many places to explore in Manitoba and this should be one of them that everyone sees at some point in their life.
I stayed at the campground for one night. Though there isnt much privacy between the sites, its a unique and interesting place to spend a night. Cant think of another place quite like this in MB, and the grounds are expansive and well-kept. Worth a stop!
We love this place! I almost would have given it 5 stars,...the only thing which is annoying and probably somewhat dangerous are the old metal pipes and concrete slabs at the beach below the old bell tower. I am not talking about the old broken down natural rock walls, they actually fit,...but the pipes and concrete slabs could have been cleaned up a long time ago.
The cabins we stayed had good size bedrooms and comes with stove and fridge. The only thing that was negative was the beach had lots of rocks. It was hard to find a good spot to sit by the water.
The cabins are fantastic. Very peaceful and quiet. Its not like camping where its a constant flow of vehicles and people going by your site. Free wood saves a lot of money. Only complaint is that the beach is horrible. Id rather not have to go to Gimli but thats often the case.
I grew up in the Interlake and spent 7 years every remembrance day paying tribute to the fallen soldiers at the Camp Morton memorial with my Air Cadet Squadron, 182 G.M. Stefnufastur based out of Gimli. There is so much to explore and the memories you make will bring you back time and time again.
Wonderful beach to wander along and search for rocks and beach glass, though the large rocks in the water make it a challenging place to swim. You can spend at least an hour wandering around the old buildings on site and the area is nice for a picnic and outdoor games.
Great little park for a visit with the family and friends to see and hear the lake while sitting in the shade on a warm summer day. We enjoyed it yesterday, we brought some food and enjoyed it with some friends as well.
The tent campgrounds could be updated with power and plugs for the prices they fact on other camp ground but it always a need place to be and was wounderful to fish at. The buildings are really starting to look neglected but the sites are still wounderful to vist.
Amazing place to bring friends and family. There is a playground for children with lots of open grassland to numerous activities. Cabins are clean and surprisingly spacious with all the required utilities. However, some of the showers were broken and a bit dirty, but duable. Overall, 4.5 stars
Might be great for skiers during the winter, but not for anyone else. The vast majority of trails in the park are taken over by the Gimli Cross-Country Ski Club during the winter. Only "trails" accessible for hiking/snowshoeing are the creek bed and a portion of the trail marked for snowshoeing (marked in blue on attached map), all in the West portion of the park. It would be nice to see more shared use of the park, or at the very least the trails that are indicated on provincial maps be left to hikers/bikers/snowshoers. All snowshoe/walking trails are in and out trails, no loops. Not worth the drive from anywhere during the winter unless you plan to ski.
A nice change! I was not a fan of the open campground, because we prefer to be more private when camping. The grounds were beautiful and interesting to learn about. The beach was so so.
Beautiful park, well maintained with plenty of camping space, including group use areas with picnic areas. Yurts and cabins are a nice feature with a short walk to pebble beach. Great walking trails. Its worth the extra drive.
On a beautiful fall day I (bikerode the Birch and Steeple trails. They are developed for cross country skiing. After 3 drying days they were great. After a rain they will be muddy, though ok for walking with appropriate footwear. Nice views of the lake.
Very nice cabin, will book again next year
We used to take our scout troop (89th Crescentwoodhere in the eighties. Its still a great location, with easy water access and lots of room for group events. In 1989 we held the Fort Rouge District Jamboree at the wilderness site. Its changed a lot, but still brought back memories. WOW, its been 30 years, I guess were all OLD scouters ⛺Heres a shout out to all my old scouter teammates: Gary, Guy, Dave, Randy, and all the rest. Hope youre all doing as well as i am.
Our family of 4 stayed in a Yurt for 2 nights. It was perfect.Fishing was fun 3 big cat fish with in 30 min.Water shoes are a must. From there we explored Gimili and Winnipeg Beach.
Just came back from a two night stay in one of the cabins, and it was lovely. The cabins are an amazing price for the rental, and the park is beautiful with the ruins of the old camp. The beach is good, although from the cabin area it can be difficult to get down there. Staff are helpful and friendly and the cabins were clean. The reason why there are only four stars is that the pay showers are in rough shape, and need to be renovated. There are other Manitoba Parks showers that are much better. Its not that the staff didnt clean (they really are nice and I saw them cleaning them), its that the surfaces are old and hold onto the dirt, and theres no bench in each stall, making getting dressed after difficult.
Cabins are very clean amd spacious. Great place for a family. Lots of room around the cabin for kids or adults to play games. I would afbise bringing a foam pad for the beds. The mattresses are very hard.
The yurts here are wonderful. Clean and complete with all the basics so you feel like youre camping, but really its glamping :)The yurts are right on the lake, so you can fall asleep to the sound of the waves lapping up on the beach. The beach is ok - pretty rocky along the shore, but awesomely (relativelyshallow sand bars ~20 metres out.
My favourite place to rent cabins! Our family rents here for at least a week each summer, more if we can snag another spot. Cabins are cute and clean, the park is beautiful, and all of the staff (both in the office and maintenance crews on the groundsare super friendly. Its pretty quiet compared to other campgrounds which is perfect for me. The absolute best feature about Camp Morton is the massive firewood pile which is in walking distance from all cabins (with a wheelbarrow to help you cart your wood back to your fire pit!). The only thing that I wish was different is that I wish there were showers in the cabin -- there are paid showers within walking distance of the cabins, but it would be really nice to be able to rinse off quickly without it being a whole thing.
We went hiking on the trails today. They are well marked and quite easy. A few low spots were wet, but we could make our way around them.
I have only been here once but I would definitely go back again. Great cabins and yurts for rent and for a good price. They even have pet friendly cabins. Very quiet. Its a short drive to gimli to get some supplies. Free firewood.
Theres the beach, the camp ground on the water, and then theres the main park. Both offer camping however only the main larger park offers cabins. The smaller roadside parks, also named Camp Morton and the larger park require a park pass and the park patrol do stop people and check. Theyll also get involved if there is noise or alcohol so keep it quiet and keep the libations in a travel mug. This is an amazing place full of beauty, heritage, and nature.
The yurts are fantastic...comes with a fan and a heater. Listening to the waves as you are falling asleep is awesome...plus free firewood!
