Cultural museum with collections of local artifacts, dioramas, a lighthouse fresnel lens & photos.
Small museum with a lot of information. It is a good place to go if you want to know the history of where you live.
Little building, big history. A must see for the whole family
Excellent, small museum with history from pre European exploration thru WW2. Unique artifacts from LaSalle’s ship, native Americans, civil war, and westward expansion. Our guide provided a great tour taking us around and covering the highlights of the museum and local area.
Small museum with a lot information about Calhoun County-history.The museum has different small sections each one refers about specific times on Calhoun county. It has a section about the natives, about the french settlement , the Spanish settlement, about the lifestyle in the last century, a model how it was Indianola, about the light house, etc. Plus personal staff is friendly and well prepared to answer doubts. Many artifacts were donated by local families. It is lovely to see how they want to preserve their history.Thank you for sharing. Hopefully in a future they can have a bigger space for so much valuable information.
Its a very great place to visit and georgeqnn is such a very nice person
Great visit and great displays. The Indianola replica was awesome and the Matagorda Island Lighthouse light was neat. Thanks to the host for a friendly and informative visit!
Had a great time. We were the only folks there and got a guided tour. All for free. The guide was fun, knew her stuff, and very friendly. Great place for history buffs. I learned things I never knew. Thank you citizens of Calhoun Co for supporting this museum. Will definitely go back if in the area.
Very educational and leaves a good impression on you.
The lady working there when we visited was so wonderful! We were the only ones there and she walked with us and literally gave a tour. Great experience.
Lots of artifacts and history here. Hoping they get a bigger place. Vicky did an outstanding job!
Vicky did a great job with our tour. We came with questions about the area and she answered them all.
Nice
Much bigger than it appears from the outside, the collections span a wide variety of local history. Ample information about Indianola, which is handy since the town is no longer. If you have any questions, dont hesitate to ask the volunteers - the good lady operating the museum while I visited was incredibly knowledgeable about all things Port Lavaca and Calhoun County. I left with a much deeper appreciation for the area.

Fascinating museum. Has a Caranchua Indian exhibit and an authentic Fresnel lens used in light houses. Museum Director George Anne Cormier is quite the expert
Small hometown museum with a lot of history. Wonderful guide contributed much.
Great relics from WW2, Native American tribes, French explorers, Union and Confederate soldiers, etc. Small gift shop with Calhoun County books and postcards. SEE PHOTOS.This is off the beaten path and not too well marked. No charge and free parking, but donations are accepted.
A really nice museum full of interesting facts and so much history!
Stop what youre doing and come here! Its free but if I had to pay it would still be worth it. The woman working there is knowledgeable and gave us a mini tour. A great way to learn about the history of the surrounding area!
