Caldeireiros - Portuguese restaurant in Porto, Portugal
Cosy interior and the food was nice, however the service was very bad.
Hidden gem. Great food and range. Very helpful with gluten free. Was busy from 8pm.
A solid, no frills tapas joint. Octopus with green sauce was delightful.
Portion of octopus rice was too big, we could not finish it. Nice staff, great taste
After looking for half an hour for a table around Porto ended up to this very nice place. Bacalao was delicious, very good prices & 🙏 empty during lunch time, giving a minute to enjoy the city without this massive tourism.
Our first night in Porto we needed food as our flight was delayed a bit and wanted to stay local to our hotel. We werent disappointed with Caldeireiros. We got a warm welcome and ordered beers and asked advice about tapas. Our waiter was friendly and was spot on with description of food and how much we would need to order. We got 6 tapas and 2 side orders and 4 beers for just under fifty euro. We thought it was good value as we live in Dublin. Nice atmosphere and good service.
What an amazing Portuguese restaurant!! Staffs were so friendly and knowledgeable of their menu. Foods and wine were delicious and wanted to try more menu. I’ll definitely recommend this place for everyone who wants to experience friendly service and amazing foods.
Very friendly waiters who patiently explained all the Portuguese specialties. Dont be shy - try the chicken gizzard! We also really liked the Franceshina and the Alheira (sausage). The tripe was tasty as well.We paid 45€ for two people including drinks.
We were very pleased by choosing this place for tapas and the main to share. Mario had absolutely brilliant communication in great detail, good taste for wine (to accommodate the meal), he new every single bit on the menu and methods used for cooking, history where the dish comes from. We had Cod croquettes, little fish which looks like Sardinhas, but starts with "P" (local word to describe the fish on translated menu, I do apologise for not rememberingand a game sausage from the mountains as our tapas. We shared a grilled octopus as a main which was exceptional. The recommended white dry wine complimented every bite in super positive way. This was a highlight of a evening for us where Mario was a big part of it. Superb.
Busy restaurant in a popular area of Porto. The food was decadent but delicious. The tiger prawn dish was delicious and super filling. Highly recommend coming before 9pm as it gets busy for walk ins. We arrived around 8pm and they were able to accommodate us easily. Overall, very delightful experience!
One Star is even too generous. Stay away from this place. Its truly horrible.Bacalhau a bras was made with frozen french fries, not a single onion or olive has been seen. Seriously?
Impeccable service and great food. Good value for money. Left satisfied with a full belly. The octopus with green sauce was good as was the cod. Big chunk of cod bbqed deliciously.
Staff was terrible. Bad attitude. We had the worst "francesinha" ever. Steak was small and cold. Never again
We went twice within a week to this restaurant, our hostes were very welcoming and the food and wine were perfect! I do higly recommend. Fred L.
Everything was wipe the plate clean delicious. Simple dishes, full of punchy flavor. All traditional dishes- tripe, bacalhau, clams, just done really well.
If you travel by yourself this is a good place because you can try a variety of traditional food in small portions! Services was also good
Great food. Great customer service from the young gentleman! Thank you
Very good food and aged tawny port
Very good food for good price, the Octopus is amazing !
The food was not very good and overpriced (compared to other restaurants around that we tried)
Unfortunately the food lacked flavor. Not as nice as expected, given the good rating.
The food was perfect and also the service ✌🏽😁. It did took a bit of waiting for everything, but considering that we were a table of 10, makes sense that the preparation took time. The Pregos are Divine and the ambience really cozy 🥰. Definitely a must visit in Porto.
Food was fantastic. We arrived at 8:30 and got seated straight away. Interior was loud and busy, but that’s an indication to the food quality.
Local traditional food in nice environment with good prices 10-15 euros per entree. Good tapas too. The bacalhau zé do Pipo was delicious and the arroz con gambas was to die for (like a spicy, saffron shrimp and clam risotto). Very friendly service.
Good tapas. Great service. Ordered the clams, shrimps, fries, octopus… all good! A good option if everything booked around you. Loved the olives and shrimps.Port wine is sweet, just FYI.
Leute or of the way of the main restaurants but with the little extra walk to get some real Tapas. Great place to go with friends to catch up or meet new people, whilst enjoying authentic Porto food and drink. The Sangria they do is one of the best Ive tasted, way to easy to drink 🥴.
Very good tapas and attentive staff. The garlic shrimp dish was excellent! I also really liked the cod and the octopus salad. Really nice selection of wines and great port wine.
FOOD: 7 out of 10. Good combination of typical Spanish tapas, plus Portuguese dishes which were new to us, and delicious!AMBIENCE: 7 out of 10. Simple but pretty. Indoor seating only.COMMENTS: Very good, friendly service from Joao. Good wines, very reasonable prices. But the second time I went to this restaurant, our service was MUCH WORSE than the first time I went here. There servers were nice, but we waited too long for pretty much everything to happen. So Im changing my rating from 5 stars to 4 stars.
Average price for average food. Wouldn’t repeat. Cod croquettes were cold inside. The sirloin sandwich was undercooked and with no flavor and the red wine was too warm. It was one the only places not fully booked in the street. wouldn’t recommend.
I ordered an octopus and it was not “just grilled”, it was already cooked and they just put it in a grill for couple of minutes. The octopus was already cut, what not nice. The potato was also cooked and then grilled with octopus. Also it was drowning in oil. Not nice at all.Btw they don’t have vinho verde per glas, which is also sad
Beautiful cosy little restaurant. Several styles of cod fish styles and tapas. Although they didnt have any dedicated vegetarian dishes, they were open to prepare something off the menu. On the top of that friendly service who was not hesitating to help us with our choice and tell us a story about their wines. Definitely recommend for a quiet dinner for two. 👌
We had our first dinner in Porto in this fine establishment and it was nothing short of amazing. The waiter was a very friendly guy who took the time to explain what was on the menu and more importantly: what was good. Five stars for him!We explored the menu and went with 4 tapas and a side dish:- Steak Loin with cheese sandwich: this was really tasty and the homemade mustard tied it all together.- hotdog in a bun: better than it sounds like, this had a good kick of spice and was a very nice treat. I absolutely loved it.- Prawns in wine and garlic: fresh prawns, wine, garlic. Enough said! ♥️- Codfishcakes: def. the star of the show here, these were amazing!Side dish: tomato rice, very very good! Try it!Our bill totalled under 30€ with all this food, 1 medium (big for mebeer and a sommersby. Amazing value!
Very good! Especially the garlic sauce of the prawns and the padron peppers were delicious.
Prices are excellent, but the food was average at best: cabbage soup was good, the codfish cakes were quite bad, ans the bread stuffed with cheese was awful, especially compared to other authentic Portuguese restaurants I’ve been to in the past 7 days. Drinks are decent.
The food and sangria were amazing!Especially the mushrooms and chicken salad were delicious! The staff was nice as well.
Good place for dinner. Food is tasty and they have good wines. However, the service could improve, they seem very busy and they forgot some of our orders.
Food was decent, reasonably priced, nice atmosphere
Very reasonably priced restaurant in the old town. Had two meals there both of which were very good. Soup and main for two with wine was less than 40 euros
Did takeaway from this place, and the staff were very helpful and the service was fast. I ordered the francesinha and tripas to go and they were very salty, which could be the norm. Tripe stew was very tender and filling, but I feel like this is not the best versions of these Porto classics.
Definitely worth the walk around the lake, even under the rain :)
Very friendly staff and good food, the pepper steaks is great !
Just perfect.Me and four friends of mine arrived there short time after 20:00.We did not have a reservation but were lucky to get places at a shared table together. The waiter was very forthcoming, asked if we had any questions on the menu when ordering. One of us ordered 3 tapas (octopus, portugese game sausage and tripas a moda), one ordered game sausage, one ordered grilled octopus, one ordered a peppersteak and one had baked codfish, in total along with 4 beers and a port wine ruby. The wating time for the drinks was very short and only after about 20 minutes the food also came.Taste was perfect for all of us, service was really nice, even as the place started to fill after we came.I would see to make a reservation next time to make sure i get a place.Totally recommend.Price in the end for all of us was about 83€ btw.
What a nice discovery! For whatever reason, this restaurant did not show up in my first Google maps searches. Noticed it while passing by and only then did I check their reviews. The food was amazing, the service very good. We even chatted about the way in which they prepare the food and her their ingredients. All in all, a great experience.Definitely recommended!
Good food and a great price. The best white sangria I’ve ever had. We got the meat and cheese plate to start and it came with plenty of both. We got the fish cakes and the tripe and bean stew. The fish cakes could have used some sauce but that’s really the only complaint.
Nice place to be, the employees are nice, the food is ok or at least the francesinha is ok, nothing special, they have a great variety of wines, and WiFi, is close to the center.
We went there for lunch around 130pm and there were plenty of seats. The food was very delicious. I like the squid, mushroom and sardine particularly. Other food are good too.
Came here on recommendation of our Airbnb host. Her God Father’s place. This place is a gem modern look. Great service. And the good is outstanding at great prices. Get the tapas and sample. Seafood is fresh. Fav was the shrimp. The dessert was sweet potato pie with a bit crust. Outstanding. Def recommend. And will be back.
Caldeireiros opens 6 days a week (Mon to Satfor both lunch and dinner. The food is excellent. We ordered about 5 tapas to share for two of us. It has good selections of meat and seafood dishes. The beer with gooseberry was also quite good. The service team is very helpful and friendly and have helped us with our dinner selection.
Fantastic restaurant, serving mains and tapas. Staff were really helpful choosing the right amount of food for our group. Everything we had was delicious. Fairly relaxed atmosphere. Recommend booking because it gets very busy.
Busy. Better if your reserve. I was alone, had to wait for a table. Very friendly staff and good taste. No inflated prices, props for that.
