Daraga, 4501 Albay, Philippines, Libon
Popular site featuring the tower of a 16th-century Franciscan church & views of the Mayon Volcano.
Once you enter the ruins complex after paying the admission fee of 20PHP for foreigners not sure about how its for locals it was a relaxing stroll looking at the ruins with plenty of meal options and options to get an ATV tour to the Mayon volcano. (Before the entrance there are alot of fixers who would try to badger you to join tours and follow you around)
better to come early in the morning. that is the higher chances you got to see the clearing of the mayon volcano. its not a buried church its abandoned since the whole town of cagsawa was buried by the 1814 eruption.you can see a picture of cagsawa church ruins with its facade still attached at the Daraga Church near their parish office. a photo taken at year 1950.
We took many nice shots with the help of Kuya. He coached us on how to come up with beautiful photos. We also tasted patani, pinangat and chili ice cream. I can only handle Level 1 spiciness Strawberry flavor :)
There was an Entrance Fee of P20/$>1 per person, plus a Parking Fee of P30, also $>1. Not a History Geek, but if youve ever been in Hawaii, this has the Black Sand of the Philippines! Also! Perhaps the only place one can try the Chili Ice Cream!!!
Too commercialized to my liking. Gives an unobstructed view of Mayon volcano but from the entrance to the Ruins area there were a lot of vendors. looks like a market with all the stalls.
My first time here is with my girlfriend as well. Visit the local shops & food stalls on the left side upon entering. Must try the ATV with minimum 15 mins trail. 😁
Theres an entrance fee and parking fee. Various food stalls that serve refreshments and local delicacies. Plenty people offering mayon tour packages/ATV rides. Youll enjoy your time here for sure.
I went here by running from our hotel in Legazpi and all I can say is that the struggle was worth it!!! People are very warm and accommodating. I proved that smile is contagious as most of those people I ran/walked by smiled back at me too 😊😊😊
The tall tower is pretty much the highest and most prominent part of the ruins, the others are just too unrecognizable but seem to resemble a previous structure.. Mayon Volcano is also very clearly seen here but other places poses a much better view. There are food stalls and trinket shops around the area where you can buy souvenir items.
Stunning! Breathtaking views of Mt Mayon and best of all entrance is free ☺️ There’s an eatery in the area and food there is also decent.
its a ruin of the church, but from here you were able to see a very beautiful mayon already.
Youll love the majestic scenery of Mt. Mayon and its perfect cone! I am fortunate to see this amazing and one of the beautiful wonders of the world!
One of the famous tourist attraction in Albay is Cagsawa Ruins Park. Located just outside the city of Daraga in Albay Province. The site has plenty of food stalls, shops for souvenirs, and ATV activities that take riders closer to the Mayon Volcano.
I came here on a city tour and thought it was pretty cool. Some old church. With the Mayon Volcano in the background its a good photo spot.
Super friendly local security, an English plaque attached to the church to explain the history, and on a clear day fantastic views of Mayan Volcano. Definitely the must see sights of Legazpi and The Philippines.
We went there at around 530am. There were very few people in the area, mostly tourism workers and sellers. We were able to witness the majestic beauty of the Mayon without the noise and the fuzz.I suggest to be there early in the morning, as the Mayon usually shows its glory during this time of the day (thats according to the locals).
This place is really fantastic! It was too cloudy on that day, that’s the reason why Mt Mayon was not seen on the pics. There are restaurants around Cagsawa Ruins and the food is recommendable!
One of the best tourist destinations and experiences here in Albay. Locals here are very hospitable and helpful. The place was so nice and well-maintained.
Two times I had been here, 1999 and 2018(Holy Week). Its really beautiful, the perfect cone shape of the volcano is magnificent. Try the ATV after the ruins.
It is one of the most popular tourist destinations in Albay. If you go to Cagsawa Ruins, you will get that picture perfect shot of the volcano. The ruins is a church that was buried or some says that was destroyed when Mayon Volcano erupted years back. What you can see in the photo I posted is the bell tower of the church. The entrance fee is only 20 PESOS PER PERSON, you are now able to see the beauty of Mayon and enjoy the view. Cagsawa Ruins Park is located just outside the city of Daraga in Albay Province. As a popular attraction, the site has plenty of foods, souvenirs, and activities, such as ATVs rides that take visitors closer to the volcano.
If for the first time you’ll see the Mayon Volcano, you’ll be in awe as what we’ve experienced. You’ll never forget it. And we’re lucky to see Mt. Mayon’s peak. Here’s a bit of history: Only that church tower remains of this 16th-century Franciscan Baroque Church of Cagsawa, which was destroyed by the February 1, 1814 eruption. But before all these destruction, it was originally built in the town of Cagsawa in 1587 and burned down by Dutch Pirates in 1636. We’re lucky that we’ve got a marvelous view on our visit here. Lots of shops and restaurants around here. And ATV rides available also in packages. Not wheelchair friendly. And parking on premises with pay.
A nice place to unwind. You can have a clear view of the majestic Mayon volcano and shop for local goods.
Had really fun in Cagsawa, though Mayon was a little shy during our visit there. The ATV was very fun. Chose the 3rd route I think, and it was worth it. The locals were nice too. The T-shirt’s at the pasalubong center are so nice too. I love their keychain designs too. Wasn’t able to get much of landscape photos as Mayon, the main attraction, was quite hidden during our visit at 3pm.
Historical landmark in Albay for its perfect cone. This is the first place to go for me before you go to anywhere spots in Albay for you to get perfect spot and view. They have also parking and restaurant to offer foods coming from long trips. from the back of the ruins they have also garden where you can buy plants and flowers. You dont have to worry for the parking. you can park in pasalubong area, and park also in front of ruins (limited). And try their sili flavored ice cream.
This Franciscan, Baroque style church was built in 1587 but destroyed by Dutch pirates in 1636. Rebuilt in 1724 and destroyed again in including the town of Cagsaua during the Mayon volcano in 1814. On a clear day you will see the majestic Mt. Mayon volcano from here. The ruins are quite confusing as you would find it a challenge in orienting where the entrance and altar use to be. Lots of foliage on the ruins during my visit. Hopefully it gets cleared to protect the ruins. The soil feels like compact beach sand but is actually ashfall. Climbing the bellfry is not allowed, but access to the church ruins is.This place gets busy leading up to mid morning so it is advise to go early. From the main road, it is walkable, trikes are available to and fro this area, nonetheless, those with vehicles are guaranteed a parking space in the area. This is a sight to see once in your life. #RP
beautiful park. The view of the volcano is amazing. there’s actually a piece of a church that was burned by the volcano’s eruption long ago. This place is a must go.
the place is very beautiful. make sure your trip is during weekdays to avoid the crowd. check the weather too! it will help you know if mt. mayon is visible or not.😊 otherwise, youll see just clouds like the picture here
One of the historic places in Albay. Mayon Volcano is a bit shy when we visited the place but will come back again again for more experience.
The Local government needs to capitalize on the historical importance of this site by improving tourist experience through better looking shops and facilities.
A nice place to relax for the whole family or any group. Entrance fee is 20 pesos, parking fee (if you have car😍is 30 pesos. There are restos inside for you to enjoy bicolano foods and "pasalubong center" outside selling bicolano foods and products. Theres also a swimming pool inside.
Historical landmark in Albay. There is only a minimal fee for entry. There are a lot of shops to buy food and suovenirs. You can also have awesome pictures with the ruins and the Mayon volcano
A must stop for some photos. You can ask some local who offers photo shoots using your own phone. You just need to give a tip and you wont regret it.
I enjoyed seeing Mayon from the ruins. Too bad it was hidden by the clouds. I visited early in the morning (7am). Thus, there were not much tourists taking pictures at the site.
A notable historical place. There’s a souvenir shop that offers handmade crafts as well as the famous sili ice cream that can be eaten in 5 levels of spiciness. ATV service that tours Mt Mayon are also available by the bridge near the ruins. There are staff there that may help you take pictures of the site (at voluntary price). There’s a resort pool beside the place which is becoming popular too.
Its like travelling back in time seeing the ruins. But be there in cloudless days to see the majestic Mayon volcano.
Looks like a nature park with Mayon View plus the Cagsawa Ruins. Entrance fee is 20 pesos. There are lots of pasalubong here plus you can buy Chili Ice Cream in the area.
Such a majestic view of the Mayon Volcano. Very satisfying and fun place to be. Anyone who visits the Cagsawa Ruins should really try the ATV ride coz it’s definitely worth the price for such unforgettable fun ride. I will always visit this place whenever I’m on vacation. Kudos Bicolandia! ❤️
Ruins, food stalls, souvenir,Instagrammable, breathtaking scenery for Mayon VolcanoBetter be here early or else clouds will envelop later in the morning..
Even though the Mayon was behind the clouds, it was still nice to stroll around the ruins. The entrance fee is 20 php per person and parking fee is 20 php per car. There is also cafeteria and flower garden on this site.
This place is one of Bicols finest tourist places to offer! It comes with a 2-in-1 package of picturesque views of Mayon Volcano and the tragic historical remnants of a 16th-century Franciscan Cagsawa Church. As you enter the site from the main (Pan-Philippinehighway, you will be greeted enthusiastically by local ATV guides offering their services by the street before making it to the main gate. Make sure to park your vehicle inside the entrance lest you want to pay a parking fee (of ₱30 at the time of writingoutside. From there, food and souvenirs stalls compliments the atmosphere while a mini fish pond entertains the kids. It is best advised to visit during the dry season from March to May to have the optimal picture-taking setting.
A very beautiful place near Legazpi city.Have a variety souvenir stores inside the park.As of 2022, admission is 20 pesos per person and pay parking of 30 pesos
Nothing has change ,the beauty remains …people are trying to earn even kids while taking pictures of the tourist …in fairness their are good at it and the good thing is they are not asking for a big amount they are thankful for how much you can give …hoping they maintain the cleanliness of the site aside from the washrooms
Remnants of Cagsawa church lies on this area. Only the bell tower is still standing (approximately 30ft high?but visitors are not allowed to go inside as it may collapse. There is so much history and beauty here.I was most captured by the huge, smooth and beautiful lava rock which lies in front of the church.
Its probably cliché to show these shots but it was all worth the long road trip here. Breathtaking. And the sili ice cream will wrap your tongue in labuyo taste that surprisingly goes well with the creamy ice cream taste.
Visited this place for two days.. but Mayon is to shy to reveal itself... Nice historic place.. awesome..
February 24, 2022 : we went to Cagsawa Ruins located at Bicol, Philippines. the weather was sunny and the rain poured by afternoon. the place is beautiful, where there are flower garden of sunflowers and lillies and you can feed the tilapia and koi fishes. you can took photos on the swing, behind you is Mount Mayon. you can avail ATV too for 50% off. the food near the area itself is good. the people are very kind and friendly! Visit Cocoys Garden and other cafeteria, feed the dogs too. ☺️
Been here 3 times and this place never fails to amaze me, the view of Mayon Volcano is very unique,... flowers and trees everywhere! This place just keeps getting better 👍The place is always clean, very friendly people, theres also a food corner where you can try rice meals, merienda and their delicious pansit bato 🤤 but you are allowed to bring food from outside. Plus, good photographers around 😆 and lots of pasulubong to offer! Food is very good as well! You may try their fruit shakes with sili 🌶🌶🌶 its a must!!! And the ATV!!!Awesome 👏👏👏👏 starts from 250 for the short trail i guess!Parking fee is P30 and entrance fee for adults is P20, all worth it! 🥰🥰🥰
Limited parking inside but pay parking is available outside. So many things to do such as ATV riding. You can buy souvenirs and food in stalls outside and inside the gate. Make sure to bring umbrellas in case it rains because even though there are gazebos and tree cover, there is limited cover from the sun and rain. You wouldnt go home without a nice picture
Great view of the Mayon Volcano and it was a relaxing place. Its already open at 7AM. Entrance fee is 20PHP. Theres also a swimming pool, restrooms (paid and freeand an events place. Many souvenier shops are within the entrance. The combination of Mango, Strawberry and Chili Ice Cream with Pili nuts at Cocoys located inside is a must try at 85PHP.
