Cafeoteca - Cafe in San Vicente de Moravia, Costa Rica
Perfect! Not only do they have various types of coffee but they also have many ways to make it! The baristas were kind and recommended which type of coffee I should try. I also ordered some food and the eggs were perfection! Buttery and cooked perfectly. After all that I knew I had to try their baked goods. I got a chocolate croissant and it was marvellous. Calling all coffee lovers! Come and try this beautiful place!
Large cafe with a broad selection of coffee, food, and pastry options. Inside and outside seating available. Coffee was fresh and delicious, with staff very knowledgeable about the brewing methods available, and origins of their beans and flavour profiles.
Very delicious coffee and cheesecake. The waitress is extremely friendly and speaks fluent English.I like sitting in the little garden because theres a playground for kids and a lot of green plants.Definitely worth a visit when youre in San Jose. The internet is 14/14 MBit/s - this should be faster.
Amazing coffee with a very wide and high quality selection. Very good food.
The only reason Im giving 2 stars is because the server was nice. The food was... Food. We were told to sit at a certain table because the rest were "reserved" which was a lie, they just kept those tables open for more important customers. I understand it, but it is terribly sad to run a business under that criteria. It doesnt make your restaurant better or more important, try improving the food instead.
I give 3 stars because the attention was great, but I feel for the price you pay it’s nothing exceptional.
Great food and excellent service
We’ve been here a few times and have always enjoyed our experiences! I’m a big latte fan and theirs are so smooth! My husband likes the cafe filtrado and there are a variety of beans to choose from!Picture below is the tico breakfast - gallo pinto, a common Costa Rican breakfast. It’s a lot of food and so good! Not picture but also delicious is their chocolate chip French toast! We love this place and there’s also a playground for the kids which my toddler loves!
Friendly, fast, delicious food! Good coffee. Nice atmosphere. Lots of sweet treats.
Very good but expensive.Nice presentation but does not give the time for the waffles to absorb the syrup they made. The syrup itself is so light and tastes like flowers.
Great cafeteria, with several different offerings of local specialty coffee and a variety of brew methods. Great place for coffee and pastry. The environment is also great.
Nice place with a pleasant patio area. Staff was attentive and kind. The food and coffee were good. No reason why I wouldnt recommend this place.
Absolutly best in town! Everything was perfect!! We had breakfast and it was soooo delicious!!
Great place to relax in the nice part of San Jose CR. Great ambience, friendly staff, tasty food, great mimosa! I was very pleased with the quality and the quantity of the food. Great experience coming to this place! Prices compare to Seattle are a little cheaper.
Awesome find! Delicious food. Beautiful renovated home with large windows and natural light. Every corner is nicely utilized. Spacious patio. Friendly staff. Treat yourself! You will not be disappointed.
Coffe tastes really bad. People who know good coffee should not get one here! Place looks cute and fancy, thought you will taste that in the coffee too. But no, won’t recommend having your coffee here
Really great little spot. The food was fantastic and flavorful! I got an omelet and my wife got El Clasico Tico. Both were large portions and amazing flavors. We ordered Americanos as well which were perfect! Our waiter was super friendly and even spoke a little english. Absolutely check them out, we even walked downtown afterwards, bout 1.3 mile walk.
Nice atmosphere and good coffee. You can choose from many varieties of regional coffee.
Sometimes the food and coffee are great and other times its average. This is an attractive and creative place to enjoy a Café, some areas are outside, in an interior courtyard. For my most recent visit the waitress asked me what kind of coffee i would like and explained they had 20 different types... but when I asked the brand and then names she said the coffees were sourced direvtly from individual fincas and had no names. OK, then how do you know which coffee is which?I asked to have two separate cups of coffee, the same coffee where one was brewed by French Press and a second by Vandola, with milk. There was a lot of confusion on her part, I guess because no one orders two coffees 🤦♂️ I was very clear that I wanted to try two cups of coffee with the same beans brewed two different ways but she literally could not understand that one person might want two cups of coffee. My date, who was Tica, understood what I wanted and explained more clearly in Spanish as well. Literally in the end, while she did bring me coffee in a French Press and coffee in a Vandola, with milk in a separate container, she still only brought me one coffee cup and I had to ask for the second cup 🤦♂️I prefer coffee brewed by Vandola, the flavor was a little bit stronger which surprised me, and also with less acidity. Also the coffee in the French Press cooled quickly which was a problem. I hope the next few taste tests are easier to order 🙏
Very disappointing coffee quality. I bought several bags of their beans. The quality of the green beans was poor, several varieties were mixed, and the roasting was unripe, so the color deviation was large. However, prices have risen in recent years. Low quality but expensive. Give customers who love your brand a reason to buy again. The condition is serious and unfair.
This place has a great vibes. Seating inside and out, with lovely decor. Choice of drinks was fab
Great good and coffees
Nice spot to enjoy a good cup of coffee, I really like the fact they invite customers to wash hands before entering, the staff is also nice, friendly and explain carefully all the options they have. You can buy different kind of coffee here if you want some to go.
As the uber drove me through the downtown traffic of San Jose i felt apprehension. Is this place going to worth the drive? As soon as we pulled up in front of the cafe, I had the answer. The barista was so friendly as patient with my broken Spanish and asked the right questions as she pointed me towards the menu selection for both my appetite level and dietary preference. The tacos with mushrooms with a tangy spicy sauce was incredible and tasty. The ambiance with the music selection, as I sit in the outdoor patio has me completely relaxed and satisfied. The coffee is so good and fresh.
I had a cup of American coffee and breakfast.Coffee was not impressive for the much higher than average coffee price.I call it no value.Breakfast bacon was healthy without salt. This means tasteless and NG.Service was so so or as like healthy no salted bacon.Building and garden were designed nicely and impressive. So this cafe restaurant is not for good tastes but enjoy being in a well designed space.
Best coffee in Barrio Escalante! not to mention the food and the staff are amazing as well. Loved the little coffee museum! super interesting and very family friendly 😊Check out our Instagram where we have a Instagram reel showing the place off!@KGDMLVNG
Kalu was hyped up a lot and I finally tried their food. I was very very happy with the roast beef sandwich and the chocolate tart was fabulous. The location is gorgeous, especially during summer. The prices are the high side and the portion wont satisfy a big eater. I look forward to go back and try other of their dishes.
They have a very quaint cafe and patio area. Coffee is fantastic. I had the poke bowl and I cannot recommend that. The rice was hard and cold and it appears they didn’t even know it’s not supposed to be served like that. However, I spoke with the waitress about it and she brought me a complimentary dessert. The servers very friendly. Second time I had the salmon bagel and that was good but nothing amazing.
Have been to Cafeoteca a couple of times and will return. The little backyard garden is lovely to spend your coffee time. They offer different options for food and deserts. Portions are quite big (for desert at least). The staff is super welcoming and very attentive.
A+ for environment food and service! Marco esp was so amazing!! You can tell he is passionate about coffee from the way he was talking about it. So friendly patient and attentive. Came two mornings in a row during our visit for coffee, orange juice and the Nutella croissant!
Wonderfully creative dishes and fantastic coffee! We especially enjoyed the falafel appetizer and the passion fruit pie!
Go. If you enjoy coffee, great service, and wonderful food, visit Cafeoteca.Easily one of my favorite cafes in San Jose - especially if you love coffee. The staff and management really elevate their knowledge and service here. They know their coffees and are passionate about their beans and introducing customers to a variety of Costa Rican coffees. We asked them to select a few and we are impressed with not only the coffee but the presentation. Each coffee has its own “notes” card which was helpful and fun.And as an added bonus, the pastry chef made some of the most delicious items - tried three, loved them all. Especially the pecan pie.
Must visit place for coffee lovers. Stunning garden and incredibly nice staff that are passionate about coffee. Marcos, the barista, was amazing and very knowledgeable. Lovely breakfast!
Cafeoteca features a number of coffee varieties from each of Costa Ricas coffee-growing regions. Wanting to experience as many as I could, I asked Marco, our barista, for his advice. I had no idea Id be taken on such a fantastic trip through three of the regions with four pour-over coffees (including both a natural and honey variant from one regionover the course of an hour and a half. I was also served some great sourdough bread with dragonfruit marmalade as a palate cleanser. After all this, I expected to pay a fairly hefty bill, but was stunned to find it very reasonably priced (be sure to tip your barista well!).The shop itself is beautiful and cozy - we could have spent all day there. It also features a great mini museum showcasing the coffee makers throughout history.Ive never had a coffee experience anything quite like I did at Cafeoteca. We visited at the tail end of a trip that included two fantastic coffee tours, and it was the perfect way to cap it.
Excellent food and coffee, nice casual paced (not slowenvironment to enjoy the food. Great coffee shop to buy some Geisha coffee.
The desserts and coffee werent as good as we expected for the price paid. It is a beautiful place though.
Great service, the place is very nice and coffee delicious. The only recommendation is to be patient on Sunday mornings, there is only one person to serve coffee, charge and make coffee in the morning, so things can be a little bit slow...
Excellent place if you want to learn more about coffee in general and get some of the best single origin Costa Rican coffee brewed. They also have a small cafe that serves traditional pastries and snacks. Really good and knowledgeable staff and it’s located in a very nice area of San Jose. I would highly recommend buying coffee to grind back home as well!
Super cool place will definitely be back. Great service, clean, fair price, plenty tables and outlets. Not sure about wifi. Used the wifi to the restaurant housed in the same building (kalu). Didnt bother asking.
Really good coffee is hard to come by in Costa Rica (even though they harvest the some of the best coffees in the world, they export most of it). This place is the exception. Excellent coffee selection, extremely knowledgeable barista, perfect brewing. Cakes are delicious as well and interior is nice. Definitely one of the best third-wave coffee places worldwide, on par with the best shops in New York, San Francisco, London or Berlin.
I love this place, is incredible, Costa Rica is a land of super good quality coffee but just few people knows how to treat it well. There at the cafeoteca knows and they teach you, and they offer a bunch of different beans and methods to prepare your coffee.
Danny is a professional barista! We had great coffee and a pleasant chat with Danny getting to know the different brewing methods. Definitely worth the price and I will definitely return!
I have drunk coffee all over Costa Rica and all over the world and this place is the best. Has a wide variety of coffees from different locations in Costa Rica, prepared with a variety of processes (natural, honey, washedand all superbly roasted and super knowledgeable staff. Will definitely be making a visit here whenever possible ☕️
Very good place to stop for a coffee when walking around this nice neighborhood of San José.The place is very nice and allows you to try many different methods of preparing coffee, including some Ive never seen before :-)The staff knows a lot about coffee and is happy to explain while youre watching them preparing it..
Awesome coffee and good breakfast. They dont have many options for breakfast food but we tried the tostadas de aguacate and the ham and cheese croissant and they tasted awesome.
Great hospitality , amazing coffee and a beautiful artizanal shop
A bit expensive(30$ for breakfastbut worth it. Relaxing atmosphere and service are awesome.
Beautiful charming place with an excellent coffee selection. Coffee is freshly ground, breakfast, cakes, cookies and other snakes are served. There is also a small gift shop with souvenirs. This place is connected to Kalu cafe and lunch place, have lunch at Kalu and coffee in Cafeoteca. 23 different varieties of coffees from 8 different regions of Costa Rica 🇨🇷.
Really nice trendy place in Barrio Escalante. Really enjoyed the food and the garden inside. Great place to have coffee, drinks or a meal with family or friends. I would say, one of the best in the area. Also, it has a boutique shop with local jewelry, art, and clothing.
Incredible place that provide you one of the best coffee in the world! The food is so decent that well worth the value.
