Café by the Ruins - Asian fusion restaurant in Baguio, Philippines
A classic go to dine in, ambiance is warm even if the weather give drizzles.I suggest eating here your breakfast or dinner.
Food is okay.. exceot for the pasta which is a bit sour but somehow i liked it. My other friend didnt liked it though.Ambiance and location is good.
The line for waiting is long so be sure to be as early as you can. Didnt quite like the food I ordered, bacon was a bit too thick and hard. Loved the coffee, though. And the fruits were on another level.
Waited almost 2 hours because the waitress skipped our name on the waiting list. They did notice when we followed up, but the restaurant was full of new diners by that time, which is why the wait was so long. The pavlova made up for it though. Its still as I remember, sweet and tart from the fresh strawberries. Would have ordered more, but was advised by the waiter that it will take another 40 minutes for their pasta and meals to be served. I guess they thought that weve waited more than enough by then.
Aesthetic and vibe is 💯 food and coffee/hot choco tastes a bit different from the last time I was there.. and not in a good way. But still a great place for food and its right at the center of the city.
Great tasting food! Dining here for breakfast was the best decision during my 2-day Baguio Solo Trip!Their coffee, artisan breads, and breakfast meals were warming and fulfilling to eat! I even asked for a to-go baggy to keep me full on my day ahead!
Went back here for the camote bread and liver paté. Goes well with hot chocolate or benguet blend coffee but Service is kinda slow. Had to ask for a menu
Go to cafe in Baguio. Pretty popular place though so prepare to line-up for minutes on a long queue.
Went here twice because of their kamote bread with herb liver pate, Rizal’s tsokolate-e, and fried lumpia. Those were amazing! Super delicious! We also tried their fillet mignon, bagnet, pomodor, quesadillas, ruins coffee, etc… we loved the chill and relaxing vibe. We sat on the veranda over looking the city hall. Their kamote bread, herb liver pate, rizals tsokolate, fried lumpia and bagnet are highly recommended. Won’t recommend their fillet mignon, somethings missing and i wasn’t satisfied with the meat. Best hot chocolate in baguio for me and my family. Customer service was amazing too.
Great food! The in-house brewed tea is highly recommended. I keep coming back in this cafe everytime Im in Baguio.
Overcrowded so fast. We are lucky. All the place is very cozy and well distributed. Food and hot beverage are amazing. Some of the staff are a little rude but for the overcrowded situation.
Went for breakfast after being gone for a long time. The place is serene, ruins cafe and trademark camote bread with liver pâté is perfect. Staff are attentive and welcoming, too. Baguio experience is not complete without coming here.
Very unique restaurant in Baguio. A lot of artworks hanging inside. It is open as early as 7 AM.
The best food made from local ingredients. Go there early so you dont have to wait in line. Try their Ruins Coffee, it was one of the best coffee Ive had while in Baguio
Although Im not a fan of cafés, my friend recommended this place for us to visit when we get to Baguio. Without a doubt the food are superb. I just thought there is something unique with the environment. Well to be honest, my stars review actually based on the Service. Glad I tried it though.
Poor service. I understand that we came by lunch time but here’s the thing — we only ordered breads with spreads, cups of coffee, a soup, and their famous strawberry cake. Nothing major to cook/prepare.We waited for 45 minutes for a table. Then waited another 45 minutes for our food to be served which was already cold. We even have to follow up a couple times for our order then they served us a wrong order which makes us more frustrated. For me it was just overhyped.
Cafe by the Ruins has the worst service ever. It took over an hour to serve a ready made bread and spread. Also, ordered their Mushroom Soup and it was served cold. Better check out other cafes around the city.
For all the breakfast lovers out there Café by the Ruins is a must see, must visit, must taste restaurant if you happen to be in Baguio. You won’t go wrong in any of there breakfast meals. As it has gone renovation even prior to the pandemic, the restaurant can now accommodate more guests. Best to visit as early as opening time to avoid waiting in the queue. Food is just a bit pricey perhaps because of its popularity, hence the 4 stars.
I dont get why people bombard the taste of coffee here saying it taste bland or mud . Bland is starbucks its everywhere and people who came from another country just to drink starbucks again?! Come on its not like the starbucks Philippines americano taste different from the US americano lol (I know because I tasted disappointment)Now the homebrew coffee here is much better than your average-run-on-the-mill coffee shop that you find everywhere. Even the longganisa is different tasted better because its not full on fat in the inside, its leaner and thats the first time I saw a longganisa like that. Also I asked my server if they sell their mango jams lol because its so good but alas its a no. I love the cozy feel of this place the breads are the winner and the coffee for me! So thank you for your hard work and making the best meal. Ill be back soon.
⭐ price - so pricey not worth it! longganisa was worth 380 O.o. overrated!⭐⭐⭐ food - Longganisa was bland but tastes healthy. Vinegar sauce was just sour, cant taste any other flavor. rice was good though. iced tea okay. Pineapple was sour but the mango was sweet!⭐⭐⭐ service - crew are nice. With 10% service charge⭐⭐⭐⭐ - love the kamote and sourdough breadSunday 7:30am but were already 7th on the waiting list. Waited for an hour to get a seat. This is from a kapampangan POV thats why I found the longganisa on a bland side.
What a lovely cafe this place is. Love the food and the scenery. A must to stop here. All the food is good! The bread here is also great! Very affordable
So-so. Parang dati cafe by the ruins is a go to for me when going up to Baguio but now ang dami mo na better options na feel ko mas worth the time, effort, and money. Not a bad experience but not really a wow experience for me. 🙂
If you want to have a breakfast, sulit siya dito sa Cafe by the Ruins. Love the ambiance of the place, and we also love the food here. If ever, you need to have some patience especially that at some times, madami yung customers and it took some while before our food came! :)
Nice bread selection. Their spreads are delicious. They give free fruits with the breakfast meals.
The food was very good. By the time we finished breakfast the limes were very long. Come early on a Sunday. At 7am if you can, just after opening.
Came here for breakfast. There are only about 3 or 4 options for rice meals if Im not mistaken. There are more bread options so if you like bread then maybe youll like it here. But not me. I ordered their ruins longganisa. It might look good on photos but the taste matched the dish name. My morning was ruined. For 380 pesos?? I had huge expectations but its just so disappointing. Jollibee longganisa tastes so much better for me. Even their iced tea tastes so bland. Id rather have water. Well my husband said their kamote bread and white cheese dip tastes okay so thats where my 2 stars rating came from. Oh, I almost forgot, their restrooms horrible. No bidet, broken flush, and looks dirty. I hope they can atleast maintain a more decent restroom for the price of their food.
We had our lunch there and its great. Cozy place, IG worth food presentation and accommodating staff! Their Ruins Coffee and Iced Ruins Coffee is a must try for coffee lovers!
Loved the food and the ambience is top-notched; not to mention their good coffee. I will definitely go back to this place and will recommend this to others
Had a good dining experience a month ago.It took some time for the staff to clean the table and attend to us. And it took so long for the food to come out.Food though was very good and was presented delicately. Also love the ambiance, specially on a cold rainy day.Parking was a challenge and I was fortunate to find one last slot. A hassle when customers have to drive out, particularly when you are the one blocking their exit.
Food was ok. The bangus was alright but the langgonisa was not very good which disappointing as it was advertised as a signature dish. The prices where a bit high too considering the quality of the food.
The food and service was good, the atmosphere slightly makes you forget that you are in the heart of the city. Ordered the bagnet with rice and the fillet mignon, and it was good and worth trying out. Had a bit of a problem finding parking but not too much of a hassle.
I was going to make a joke about how, for a cafe named “Cafe By The Ruins”, we couldn’t find any ruins, but a quick google search soon lead me to the discovery that the original cafe had been built in a torn down WWII era house, and was the original inspiration behind the name. Unfortunately that cafe had since burned down and obviously some major improvements had to be made to keep it safe for visitors. Though it looks like they have kept one side of the original, bullet-ridden facade - I just wasn’t looking hard enough. Anyway, the cafe itself serves some great coffee. I had two of their Ruins Coffee, partly to keep myself awake for the hours-long drive back to Manila, and partly because it was just that good. A great drink to have with their kamote bread with herbed kesong puti, and a butter croissant.
I will be honest... the food was alarmingly terrible. I wish I were exaggerating, or had a better experience to write about. But I do not even wish to have my worst enemy eat here, so here I am writing my first review, as is my duty as a responsible citizen of the country. The main dishes were.... awful. They lacked flavor, and had small servings. Their Ruins Coffee was the worst coffee I have ever had in my entire life. It barely tasted like coffee; indeed, it is their specialty drink, as you would be hard-pressed to find this blend anywhere else. It tasted like how I imagine sweetened mud would taste like. The ambience and the view were not as nice as I was led to believe. And to top it all off, they dont allow reservations, the queue was long, and the service was simply not good.Overall, it is not worth the good reputation it gets. They absolutely do not deserve the hype. Though if you are in the mood to have your taste buds ruined for life, by all means give this a go then!
A must try every time na aakyat Ng Baguio! We had our breakfast here and what a great way to jumpstart our Baguio tour! The best and farmers breakfast apaka solid ng bacon. Panalo din ang fishermans breakfast sobrang crispy ng dried fish (espada if Im not mistakenserved with complimentary brewed benguet coffee w/balicucha as sweetener. Our friend tried their BLT sandwich at hnd mo rin pagsisisihan yan ang sabi nya. Well definitely come back here and will try BLT for myself.Overall a great experience, ambiance, staff, location, and food all hit our check marks!.
Great for breakfast! Eat light before going during the holidays because you will be waiting in queue for 2 hours before dining.
Over priced and overrated. Staff is rudely unapologetic about missing items in their food menu. We ordered bagnet which is supposed to come and be paired with sinigang soup but they only told us that the pair isnt available until the food is served already. We were given a very bland nilaga soup which is shamefully not a tad better than your garden variety neighborhood carinderia. We have to follow up several times to get half decent service. Not coming back here! Zero out of five stars. But if youre in the habit of wasting your time and money then by all means go visit.
I always make it a point to visit here every time I’m here in Baguio. i miss the rustic ‘old’ cafe. after the fire and just now being here again feels different. maybe it’s just me but that’s how i feel towards this. i give 2 stars for the food only. my fave camote bread, liver pâté and herbed cheese are my fave. plus my coffee took forever to arrive 👎🏻
I lived in Baguio for 5 years and only visited once but I dont remember the food anymore so we decided to visit it again. Its a Sunday at around 9am when we arrived in the cafe. Theres a bit of line, maybe we waited 15mins before we were seated. Theres a seating area outside so its okay. So disappointed that kamote bread and basil bread were already sold out @ 9am! I ordered scones instead, not a fan. I got hot cappuccino with it, it was ok. The mangoes in the crepe were sour. Strawberry shake was shockingly the good, the best according to my sister. We just had light breakfast since we went to Good Taste afterwards.
This restaurant was worth the wait when I dined here with a group. Great taste, Good meal variety, great staff, average value and the wait wasnt that bad (its par for the course on highly reviewed restaurants in Baguio, so 45min wait or more during peak hours). Oh and the dining experience in the second floor is fantastic at night. Its very chill and relaxing.I really enjoyed anything that had vegetables served in this place. I say that because I normally dont eat that and I find it remarkable. When reading the menus, take note that most mains are for a single serving. Just keep that in mind when coming in as a group.
Food tastes different and very bad. We ordered their longganisa, french toast, pain au chocolat, farmer’s breakfast, strawberry shake, and their ruins coffee. Would not recommend those items in the menu. But staff is very friendly. Photo attached is their pain au chocolate that is supposed to be a puff pastry and next photo is my mom’s plate. She didn’t even touch the longganisa.
The ambiance does help with enjoying the food. I mean, the bread here alone is phenomenal! Their signature Coffee goes with any bread and spread, the bacon isnt that oily, the longganisa is SO GOOD. I had to log in all the food I ate and labeled it as my cheat meal 😂. Would recommend it! 11/10Also, sidenote: the staff are really friendly, and accommodating. They really make it easy for someone like me (super shyto talk to them
I had high expectations with the filet mignon. But the steak is not tender at all, in fact its chewy. But the place looks great
They have sink outside where you can wash your hands before entering the cafe. They are checking for temp and vax card. About the food, id say its too pricey. I ordered croissant ( they got the texture outside crispy however i was dissapointed when i cut the bread. Please see photos for your judgement. It cost me 100. They also sided it with yummy strawberry jam with butter, but the bread is a 3/5). The arozcaldo is good and the serving is okay but thr taste is not worth it for 185. The rizal chokolate tasted like swissmiss not worth it for 140. The suman and sourbread with liver pate is one i can recommend .
Disappointing experience food wise, although the space was very nice.Seating options upstairs and downstairs, with the upstairs seating offering more breeze and a bit of a view out to the street.Food was average though, with a few things unavailable. Perhaps this is due to the pandemic. Service was also a little disappointing - my lunch item was unavailable but it took 15 minutes for them to tell me that they didnt have it, by which time the others food had arrived.
A not so quiet corner due to busy road. Al fresco is so so. But their scones are highly recommended. Their sourdough is too dry. They allow bike so all good although at first I got a no from the cashier and Idk if its because it just rained.
Cafe By the Ruins was my Favorite Baguio Restaurant. Everytime we would go to Baguio this was always on our list. But sadly i would have to temporarily erase them from my list of to go to Baguio Restaurants.I ordered the Bagnet, my sister ordered the Fillet Mignon while our driver ordered the Chicken (forgot the exact name).Service was great, Service water was placed immediately after we were seated. And we did not wait long for the food, but the food is another story. The Bagnet was Good but it is not the Bagnet that has Crispy skin. The skin was anything but crispy. The Fillet Mignon was tough. I read some reviews and someone else complained about this dish. The Chicken was cold.Food Quality has obviously declined, hopefully on my next visit, the food would be better. (If ever i do go back)
The place is nice. A haven in the City. It offers an open seating area that lets you enjoy the outdoor. The food is great as well. 😊 I enjoyed their Iced Ruins Coffee. 🥰
We were really surprised for the large amount of their sumptuous meals. Solo is good for solo family (^○^)/ But its good, the crew is very polite and hospitable
Great coffee good ambianceBit pricey for the food portion but the iced ruins latte is really goodFood I honestly wouldn’t come here to order anymore as portions are so darn small and the taste is soso
Good option for those who want to spend a quite quiet evening away from the noise of the city. I just couldn’t get it why we were not allowed to transfer upstairs but when other guests arrived, oh well. It’s alright. Life can sometimes be unfair, you know. Anyway, I super like the beverages we had! Their tea was superb! Great job for having a friendly staff as well! ✨
