Cafe Yax-Ha - Coffee shop in Flores, Guatemala
Great environment! I highly recommend checking this place out for food, or for a place to stay
It is a cool travelers hostel with good vibes. Staff are helpful. We stayed in the private room right next to the entrance and restaurant. I would not stay there again mainly due to the location. It was also very hot with no ventilation. This place did not feel much like a hostel in that you weren’t allowed to bring in your own beer. It feels like you are forced to eat and drink at their restaurant.
Very good time here. Cosy, good food.. I was sick and at 6 am they helped me brenging to the hospital.
Hostel and vibe are nice but the restaurant has the worst customer service I’ve ever seen.I ordered a smoothie bowl and it was liquidy as water, if I wanted to have a smoothie I could just ask for one and paying half the price, also the guy who made it just let it seat on the counter while he was eating in front of my eyes.Don’t even get me started about the amount of time I waited for my food. DO NOT COME
Very nice place, good vibes. The travel agency inside the hostel is quite practical but just know that you can probably get a slightly better price in a local agency ;)
I loved my stay here! This was the best hostel I’ve stayed at; very clean, warm/kind/friendly staff, met amazing people, delicious food, great location and beautiful decor. What annoyed me was some (a small handfulof entitled tourists who were impatient about getting their drinks and ultimately not respecting the culture. Those people need to realize that they’re in a different country, where systems operate differently and that it’s not all about them. If you’re obnoxious and entitled stay home and don’t come to Guatemala.
Friendly and helpful staff, quick service and professionalism when making cocktails. Will come back again
Holy cow... this place is incredible. First of all let me say, it saved our hides and I wish I knew about it sooner. We had booked accomodations just outside Flores in the only place that I could find that said it had wifi because we knew we had to work at least one day while we were passing through town. We came to see Tikal and because we are older (late 40swe dont typically look at hostels when we look for places to stay. The hotel we had orignally booked was beautiful, but kept losing power and wifi was hit and miss, even when it was on it was so slow we coudlnt use it for work. We came to Los Amigos and asked if we could rent a room in order to use the wifi, and the incredibly kind woman at the front desk said as long as we were eating / drinking we could work from the restaurant. We have enjoyed breakfast, lunch and now we have moved on to cocktails! The wifi is incredibly fast, and we have received friendly service with the "and then some" attitude. Every single thing we ordered has been next level; fresh, artisan, and mouth wateringly good. I am so sorry that we didnt find this place sooner, we would totally have stayed here. The restaurant atmosphere is super cool, like sitting in a bo-ho jungle with colorful lamps, tiki lights, gorgeous murals -etc. There is even a little turtle pond! I absolutley love it here and can not say enough good things. I was so afraid that we had overstayed, we try not to ever poach wifi but the staff has been incredibly accomodating. We do accounting so our deadlines are stressful and we werent sure what we were going to do if we didnt find a place to work. I highly HIGHLY reccommend giving this place a try.... to the staff we say: Thank you- thank you - thank you!!
No Wi-Fi I’m the rooms! After we told them about it they said they will restart and nothing really happened. They are doing construction work every day since 9:00 am so you can not really sleep a bit late or even try to relax with your morning coffee. The AC is turned on only at 21:00 which is really late compared to other hostels. And we don’t have hot water in the shower. Only in the shower which is basically in a public restaurant. The kitchen is well equipped. they have nice seating area which I wish they would put some roof over because everything is wet from the rain. The staff are really friendly especially Benjamin.
Definitely not recommend to stay at this hostel. The only reason I gave two stars instead of one is the helpful staff. I stayed in the six bedroom dorms with the bathroom. There wasn’t any hot water in the shower. There was renovations right outside the room that woke everyone up in the morning and went trough the whole day so you can’t really sit outside and relax (could have been nice to tell about it to the guests when checking in). The wifi doesn’t work inside the room, only outside. If you take a room with an AC they turn it on only at 21:00! Generally a bad experience and wouldn’t recommend to stay here.
One of the best hotels I have visited.Love the details inside, like the garden, font, turtles/fish and the bar.
Decent hostel and breakfast is fine. However after 10pm, your only option is to go to the ‘night lounge’ (a back room with very loud musicis you want to be anywhere else than your bedroom. Staff is also not very understanding that this is sub optimal. A hostel should provide a space to relax and to meet new people and this one is definitely lacking in that aspect.
The restaurant and food is amazing (vegan options available), the hostel though isnt. Seems a bit unorganized, probably due to high occupancy and frequently changing guests, no power plugs available for each bed and lockers are small, 4 showers available for the whole hostel
Big and comfortable room+shower.Excellent restaurant.
This was one of the worst hostels I stayed in! We took the private tree house room and got a room that was above the restaurant, with barely any walls, you literally felt like you are sleeping in the restaurant- Very loud, horrible light and warm with only a fan to try to cool you off! The bathrooms and showers were literally inside the restaurant so everyone in the restaurant can see you brushing your teeth and getting ready! When trying to talk to the receptionist he didn’t even want to try to listen and help out!Really bad experience!Be careful when booking this hostel!!
We have been waiting to our food for more than an hour, and we didn’t get any explanation or any compensation. The food was fine.
Had a great stay, would recommend! Nice local staff
Los Amigos Hostel was a little paradise in the middle of Flores - from the a/c dorms to the incredible staff that quickly felt like family. There is only a few hostels in the world that can make you feel like you belong, and this is definitely one of them. Not necessarily because of the volunteers (if anybut mainly because of the amazing local full-time staff. Another great reason why I loved my stay here so much.
Trendy hostel with great restaurant and clean common areas. Hammocks are awesome!!
Great hostel right in the middle of the tiny beautiful town of Flores. The restaurant has tons of options for vegetarian/vegan food and they offer boxed lunches for travel days. Restaurant ambiance is amazing and so is the overall vibe of the hostel. restaurant service is slow but the staff is still very nice even when faced with hangry patrons. AC in the private rooms is awesome.
Great food and huge portion sizes. Service is a little slow but it was worth it! The staff is also very friendly and accommodating. Highly recommend!
Very good location, crew and food. Recommend for the Tikal tour as well
Great hostel, great restaurant. Only giving it a 4 because of the kitchen and that the reception isnt open before 7:30am, but you leave for tours and shuttles starting at 4:30am
Super cosy hostel with lots of spots to hang out and meet people. There are also some sweet animals hanging around: we spotted some rabbits and terrapins. The atmosphere is friendly but chilled and relaxed - not a party hostel vibe.We had a private room with private bathroom and AC, which was great - it’s in a separate building to the dorms, with a lovely shared balcony and an amazing view of the lake.Staff are super helpful and friendly - they went out of their way to help us when we had questions. There is also a travel agency inside the hostel, which can organise tours and onward travel for you.The only downside is that the wifi on the top floor was really weak, but it works fine in the communal areas
Walking through the door brings you into an alternate universe of plants, music, food, hammocks, pet dogs and rabbits walking around. There is a high quality bar in the back, and a little enclosed dance club. The restaurant food is 10/10.I’m honesty quite taken by surprise from this hostel. The people who work here are the icing on the cake… each person has been kind, helpful, engaging, and authentic. Fast wifi too!
Absolutely gorgeous restaurant but the food is meh. It completely lacked flavor and portions were ridiculously huge which leads to waste. The red wine was warm. I know this is a hostel but come on.
I was impressed when I walked in. The decor is awesome and the whole place has a cool vibe. However, I did not realize how disappointing my (expensivestay would be. I stayed in a private room with two beds. At first glance, the room was actually quite nice and well appointed. My only problem at first was the shower, which spewed water all over the bathroom and created a puddle with its improperly placed shower head. Luckily I was able to soak it up with a few towels. When I woke up in the morning, the entire room was flooded up to my ankles. Not sure exactly what happened over night, but it looked like it was leaking from the back of the toilet. I informed the staff who quickly came up stairs to see the issue, so I was thankful for that. Some of my items were damaged and a lot of my things were soaking wet (I had a flight in 24 hours so that was not going to be fun). Was never asked if I or my things were okay and even felt like I was slightly being blamed for this incident. After patiently waiting and wandering the town, I came back to my room dry and the problem fixed. However, I was pretty shocked that the staff did not apologize for the situation, ask if I was okay, or even offer a free drink for this trouble. In addition to this bad experience, the rules posted say that the restaurant is open until 9:30pm and the center garden needs to be cleared out by 9:00pm to ensure all is quiet for people to sleep. After all, many people wake up early for Tikal. However, there was loud music and tons of people in the area every night until past midnight. There are even some doors just a few feet away from all of the loudness. I was all the way on the third floor in the furthest room away from it and it was still very loud. If this is not the usual, I wish I was informed of this before securing booking.I was very excited to stay here and quite disappointed that I did :-(
A cool place but the slowest service for food and drinks on the island!!Maybe very understaffed or disorganised but its just very, very slow. 25 mins for lemonade (3 separate timesand over an hour for a burger.Lots of reviews because they give free drinks in return - maybe people feel they have to be more complementary than they really think...
Very nice place, its like the jungle is inside. Theres a bar and restaurant there which we didnt use. There a good kitchen, but it could do with more utensils. A good mall across the bridge with a supermarket and bakery if you plan on cooking. Private rooms were nice, large with Aircon and nice bathroom. Windows didnt seal well so if going in mosquito season that might be a problem. We had a room near some utility/boiler that was noisey but not the end of the world. The place has a reputation for a party hostel but we did not experience this.We got a tuk tuk from bus station for Q15 for 2 which I recommend.
Great place for drink, food and arranging activities and transport around Flores (everything was cheapest or nearly the cheapest here), the staff were very friendly, the place looks amazing.Downside - every single time we ordered food and or a drink some mistakes were made, or the order took unreasonably long ( like 15 minutes for some items, +45mins for other food ordered at the same time ). There wasnt a single time we got what we asked for the first time round
Hostel is more a rip off than anything else. The tours are highly overpriced (for example with normal tour agencies you pay 100 for a guide and tour to tikal and with Los amigos it was 175). They dont allow outside food or drinks and are not helpful overall
The staff is nice and it’s fun to just go hang and eat there, but it’s extremely overpriced for what you get. 95q to sleep on a mattress in the open air with no ac is just ridiculous.
This place is really cool, its got a great restaurant inside, great tour desk, super comfy beds and very easy to find and easy to explore the whole island. The only thing is if youre booking the cheapest rooms, the air-conditioning is only on at night and it does gets super hott and hard to escape the heat during the day if you dont have access to the air conditioning
One of the best hostals Ive ever stayed at. Very helpful staff. The hostel is beautifully decorated and clean. Wifi is fast and reliable. Dorms are spacious and have AC. It is also a travel agency with a lot of great tours and shuttles. Great location in Flores. Has a good restaurant that is always popular in the evenings. The hostal has a good vibe with lots of energy - but its not a party hostal and is quiet by 10pm.
Great atmosphere and amazing smoothies. Staff is slow and pancake was not good. Staff knows no english. They charge 5 % additionaly by paying card. Check sum when paying the bill.
The dorms are hot and stuffy with almost nonexistent AC and no fans. The beds are uncomfortable with no privacy and the dorms do not require a key so anyone can come in at any time- not safe and not secure. Originally, I had made a reservation for 3 nights but when I tried to reduce it to 2, they told me to cancel the reservation and make a new one but didnt tell me that would TRIPLE the rate. So I ended up paying as much for the stuffy dorm as I had originally been quoted for a private room. My first night there I ate in the restaurant and before I could even get my bill a manager came over and told me I needed to leave because they had other guests that wanted the table. They have so many reviews because they give free drinks for them. On my last night, I saw a mouse in the dining room and several rats outside the guest kitchen.
The place looks really cute, but we didn’t got to experience it because the booking in their website didn’t work. But they really helped us find some place else. The problem, which is the reason for the bed score, is the restaurant. The food was not good and took sooo long to get to us. Also, the waitress didn’t speak English and was very not cooperative and made us feel unwelcome.
Great vibe and design, many options in the food menu with delicious food with generous portions. Service is a bit slow so recommended to order your breakfast before shower xD other than that great!
Very disappointed by the customer service here, especially for a famous hostel like that. When arriving on my first day, I asked to leave a day earlier, they agreed and told me I would only pay 15% tax of the price.Today I went to pay my booking and now the reception lady tells me I have to pay 50% tax and that her colleague made a mistake because he is new.I think that is not a good answer and that changing the tax like that seems dishonest and very unprofessional. Also the food and tours are very expensive for the same quality of restaurants and travel agencies around the island.+ Careful with the reviews, if you give a good review, you get a free drink.
We didn’t stay at the hostel, so this review is solely for the “spa”. Admittedly, I set my expectations low since we were going to a spa at a party hostel… but even that wasn’t enough. The “spa” is a musky concrete space in the back with two massage beds where the sheets looked pre-used. The walls are nothing but plywood, so you can hear the conversations of others outside during your massage. And my “masseuse”, god bless her heart, tried hard but I’m certain she never had any formal training besides maybe a few YouTube videos. I’m fairly certain she was just the receptionist and they needed someone for my massage. My wife got a massage from a young man and really enjoyed it, so I’ll give an extra star for that.
The Hostel was amazing. The chillout area was very nice and good to get in touch with other backpackers. The dorms were spacious and been cleaned well everydayness. Located in the middle of Isla Flores it is just a quick walk to all the nice spots to visit.
Amazing hostel with great decor, vibes and food. Smoothie bowls are an absolute MUST. Staff is sweet and accommodating. Location is perfectly situated. Can’t recommend enough.
Nice hostel with both non A/C and A/C options. Cool and chill vibes. Nice friendly employees and volunteers. They have a cool bar also and a big travel agency. Recommend!
One ot the best hostels Ive ever been to. Everything is well planned and the owner is nice and helpful. Big thumbs up for air conditioning in the dorm. Wide variety of excursions for every wallet!
We stayed in a double bed private room. The room was clean and the beds were comfy. Hot water in the shower. The hostel itself looks really cool and the food in the restaurant was ok.
Probably the best hostel Ive been to in central America (seriously!)We went for the private room with the ac since we were after a long ride and wanted to treat ourselves. One of the best value for money Ive experienced.
Overrated - I came here for Dinner as the rating on google was quite good. I cannot confirm this.. I waited a long time, they simply ignored me in the beginning despite me getting the menu from the bar and trying to get in contact. I ordered a veggy burger with wedges on side, needed to wait again longer than usual. The burger was boring in taste, but the wedges were really nice. As I didnt finish the meal, I wanted to take the rest with me. Even though telling them I need to leave, they again did not react. So I paid and left, not really satisfied. No feedback on rooms, but the atmosphere didnt convince me either. I was happy not having decided to stay here - youll find better options to stay and eat in Flores! Sorry guys..
All in all a very nice Hostel. Nice staff and the best restaurant in town. U see turtles running around which creates a calm environment. Nice paintings on the walls and a lot of nice arts. I highly recommend the hostel :)
Friendly staff. Convenient and delicious food and drink. Amazing assistance getting you to all your desired destinations, and support getting you transportation for your next travel spot. The amenities are amazing; inexpensive massages, sauna, lounge area etc. We will absolutely be back to Los Amigos. Book your stay with them - you will thoroughly enjoy it!
Nice place to stay. Beds are comfortable, the service is amazing, prohibition lets you sleep early. One thing I dont like is that I pay extra for ac to hang out in the room when Im tired for the day. And they only turn it on from 9 to 9 am.
