Warm, brick-clad & not-for-profit cafe serving hearty vegan cuisine in relaxed environs.
What a little gem! We had an amazing vegan dinner here. The swede fondue did not resemble fondue, but was amazing. The fried capers (aka salty fat bombswith the schnitzel were delicious. The brussels sprouts were also very good. One of the best meals we have had in London post-covid. Too bad we were in a hurry and couldnt have stayed longer!
Beautifully decorated with lovely vegan food. Im mainly writing a review to compliment the staff on their friendliness, it makes a big difference! Ill be back soon.
Gorgeous cafe, good food and highly considerate staff. Great with allergies.
Tasty food, brilliant staff and a great vibe. A top pick for vegan food in south London. If it’s on the menu, I always order the Eton Mess
My partner and I went here last night and it was fantastic. The meal got off to a fine start when to both of our surprise we found Txakoli on the wine menu - a Basque wine incredibly hard to find in London. The Korean fried oyster mushrooms and the Jerusalem artichokes were beautifully prepared and extremely well balanced. The bangers and mash were just right and the butter tofu is up there with some of the nicest vegan curries I have had.We were seated and served by the lovely Tessa who was extremely friendly, professional and makes a banging cocktail. My partner literally jumped for joy while we were outside having a cigarette break between courses - I think that says enough. Will definitely be back and will most certainly be recommending to friends. Loved it
It’s unfortunate I have to leave a bad review as I have loved being a loyal customer of the cafe but today I had a pretty bad experience….I came to enjoy just a coffee without realizing this was looked down upon considering it is a cafe. The minute I was served my coffee I was approach by female waitress telling me that they typically only serve customers who order food on the weekends and to consider this next time I come in. This is all fine obviously, but the fact I was practically asked to leave while just trying to have my coffee and feeling like I was not really seen as a customer only because I didn’t order food made the situation entirely uncomfortable. I had to immediately get a to go cup and leave. I guess don’t go if you just want sit and enjoy a coffee on the weekend??? However, couldn’t recommend more for atmosphere and vegan food
Such a great restaurant. Been several times and its never disappointed. Really varied menu - something for everyone. Its in the top 1% of London restaurants on TripAdvisor, with good reason in my view.Always nice to chat to the different members of staff!
We love this place. Very friendly staff, nice and relaxing place to sit. The food is delicious especially the Sunday roast, and the Korean fried Oyster mushrooms on their new menu, wowza! They have always happily accommodated our baby, now toddler. Reasonably priced. And a not for profit social enterprise. We are leaving the area and will be sad not to have this place around the corner any more. Keep doing what you’re doing Cafe Van Gogh!
mushrooms were soooo slay, carbonara was delicious! vibes? immaculate. im in awe, thank you!
Hidden gem! Beautiful space, very friendly staff, everything weve tried on the menu was absolutely delicious. Highly recommend to try the vegan cheese board, the flavours are wonderful. For context - Im not vegan, and thoroughly enjoyed it.
Great variety of vegan food. Staff were extremely helpful and happy and knowledgeable. Portions are slightly smaller size but extremely tasty
Lovely environment and all vegan menu.
Such a lovely place. Food is always amazing and the staff are very accommodating. Some of the best vegan stuff I’ve ever had! Also nicest oat caramel iced latte 😍
Wholesome, welcoming vibes, friendly staff and excellent vegan food. Certainly recommend visiting Cafe Van Gogh if you get the chance, especially since theyre a not for profit social enterprise!
Lovely vegan spot in Oval. The food is delicious, great atmosphere and excellent service.Update: With every menu update, Cafe Van Gogh keeps surprising us. The food here is excellent, highest standard than any restaurant I’ve been to - I am not even vegan. The chef needs to release a recipe book please!
Having read other reviews I am sorry to go against the grain, however, I think it is very important to have positive and constructive feedback. I came with my daughter and her friends yesterday (Sundayfor her birthday lunch. I have to say I was a bit disappointed in the food and service as were a few of the other guests. The staff were friendly but we had to ask for quite a few basic things - ie salt and pepper, sugar for coffee etc which should have been offered or available automatically. Two of us shared the cheeseboard for starter which in my opinion was very small for a sharing platter. There were 5 smallish crackers to share ! We asked for more which the staff brought willingly but I think there should have been more in the first place. The roast dinners were Luke warm and roast potatoes very hard. It is fantastic that this is completely vegan which my daughter loved. I did not mention any of this in the restaurant as it was her birthday.
We came for the Vegan Roast Dinner and stayed for the charm! This place is a shining light with its mindset for sustainability and serving the community. The roast was absolutely delicious with the Yorkshire Puddings being a standout for us. We washed it down with a few Negroni’s and a Vino Rosso or two. Staff were friendly and attentive when needed. I can’t wait to come back and try more on the menu, top marks guys!
Amazing atmosphere and the design!Good vegan food but for me was too oily:(
Friendly, professional staff. Prices not too expensive but you dont get cheap eats in Kennington. Only one toilet, even if it is accessible, which is why no 5 stars.I highly recommend the Greek Fava Dip starter. Well worth a visit though and has many wheelchair accessible tables. The seating and tables were a little small for me too and you have to share space with the plants at some tables.Very large drinks menu for a small vegan café, which my companions enjoyed! Will still come again but the toilet problem could ruin an evening! If there was another one that I missed, Ill raise my rating.
I was only disappointed that the ice-cream wasnt available as they have got delicious variety of ice-cream. So we just sat down outside and ordered some drinks. I had the fruit water jug and it was excellent. Waiter was very chatty and polite.
Love the interior and staff! I didn’t like my drink, absolutely loved my meal, but didn’t like the dessert.
The place was absolutely lovely. We loved this café for that nice atmosphere, and also for it was completely vegan and clearly intersectional. The staff was also very friendly. The food and drinks were good indeed, but somehow not excellent. Overall a nice vegan spot which we 100% recommend.
My favourite place to eat in London!! The food is immaculate, the staff are lovely and I absolutely love eating in the garden during summer- such a peaceful atmosphere. Also love the seasonal menus and the overall ethos of the place. Will never stop coming here.
Great food, drink and atmosphere along with very friendly wait staff. I have been multiple times and plan to continue returning, perfect for a variety occasions. The menu is varied and exciting and I have never felt let down by any of the dishes I have received.
Awesome vegan food. The fried potatoes are amazing. The upstairs seating is wonderful, if youre able to get up there. Nice garden in the back too.
Best plant based food in London? Yes without a doubt !!Plus the Cafe supports an amazing social cause - on the job training for people with learning disabilities. Its a bonus that feeds your soul 👀
As always, Café Van Gogh was absolutely delicious and amazing. One of the best vegan restaurants in the UK.Id recommend going as a group and get everything in the menu and share. They are also dog-friendly and have a lovely garden.
Definitely one of the best vegan spot you can ever go. Hands down to the best flavours and texture I ever had. Litteraly you need to try to believe it. Every time different option and i love that because we already had everything on the menu. Its blows your mind!
Delish burger and Sunday roast. Also bloody good bloody Marys, yum!! Thanks to all the super friendly and helpful staff for making our visit so pleasant.
Visited Cafe Van Gogh for the first time for mothers day. The food was lovely and the staff were so attentive and polite. I would highly recommend the cafe and will be visiting again in the near future
So glad to have found this gem! Couldn’t have been more impressed! Absolutely beautiful building with amazing decor and lots of plants inside, very Instagram friendly if that’s what you’re looking for.We were greeted with amazing service, and they had great allergen knowledge and where happy to explain everything I could eat on the menu. Everything is vegan (so all dairy freeand they were able to make great gluten free substitutions. Best gluten free bread I’ve ever had in a restaurant. And the vegan cheese, oh wow, It’s the first vegan cheese to fully satisfy this blue cheese lover! My sister and mum enjoyed amazing warm pastry’s and couldn’t believe they were vegan. Even the drinks were lovely with hot fresh apple with lots of cinnamon. And I would say all at a very reasonable price for the portions and quality you receive. Will definitely be a repeat customer
My first ever vegan restaurant meal. And as a staunch carnivore I was a little apprehensive - however I have to say I was very pleasantly surprised. I was at a wedding reception and the meal was set with four courses. I forgot to take photos I was enjoying it so much. The staff were absolutely delightful. This cafe is at the heart of the community offering opportunity for those with difficulties to gain skills for employment. Also classes on cooking on a budget. This place is a little gem and worth a visit. Ooh and they do lovely cocktails too
Very good and tasty vegan food! Book your seat! Little disepointed that the service wasnt perfect, some glasses were a little dirty and the place we had were a little chilly because the door to the outside garden was opened to often (passing thrue to get in/out to the garden).
A small cafe, heavy name and a wonderful place to hang out. USP is being absolutely vegan, having a chill intellectual vibe and changing menu every 6 weeks. Cool.Food was innovative and delicious. I took Kombucha on side. Wasnt disappointed. Large black olives were suck-worthy. Gin and tonic was standard.Service was to the point. Both the waiters were patient, poised and friendly.Ambience is Van Goghy. Starry canopy, hanging ferns and bursting surrounding. I loved the way the small space was arranged.I love independent cafés. This one will definitely be on top side.
i really like this place and the idea behind it and would love to find out more about how they help others in the community. The food was tasty, wonderful chips!. The coffee excellent and chocolate cake so moist and yummy. my only issue was it was a bit cold. I kept my coat on.
The first time I visited this vegan restaurant, I loved their Christmas set menu so I returned to try their normal a la carte menu and was not disappointed. The ‘beef’ pie was delicious and my friend tried his first vegan burger and it was love at first bite! The sticky toffee pudding was a great way to end the meal. Staff are super friendly and made our night.
This is a cozy and community-focused vegan cafe located in a quieter part of Brixton. During my first visit I found it quite warm and welcoming thanks to the staff, who were attentive and thoughtful. The brunch menu offers a variety of breakfast classics (like Full English Breakfast and pancakes). In addition to seating on the main area when you walk in, there is upstairs and outdoor seating. All areas are decorated with plants, which adds to the down-to-earth aesthetic of the cafe.If you’re planning on working in the cafe do be advised that patrons are permitted to work during the weekdays up to a certain point, but not on the weekends. This is so that as many people as possible can enjoy the space.
Amazing cafe with great service and very ethical. Zero waste and classes are offered here too. The food is delicious - would definitely recommend the sweetcorn fritters and the banh mi. The menu changes depending on day/time so I would also recommend the sausage sarnie and the shakshuka. The interior is really cute and the courtyard is nice and peaceful, especially when there’s good weather.
Such a quaint café. The ambience is very nice. Staff is very friendly and gracious. The cheeseboard is a must! Couldn’t tell the difference from real cheese particularly the “shamembert” and “veganzola”, and the crackers that went along with it were very tasty as well. This definitely was my favorite thing.Achari tofu tikka was only okay to me. Personally I found the chutney rather salty and without much other flavor. The cheesecake was very dense and chocolatey - good if you like that kind of thing. I wasn’t expecting it to be so dense though an thought it was a bit like eating a slice of chocolate truffle or ganache rather than a cheesecake. Not much salted pretzel brittle on it and the mandarin sorbet wasn’t citrusy.Presentation of all the food was very nice. Saw several people who got the burger which looked very good.
Such a kind and warm welcome from the lovely staff, absolutely DELICIOUS food (cheese board, tempeh skewers, gnocchi, cheesecake and fool - we were starving), beautiful setting and a really worthy business giving back to its community. Can’t recommend this place highly enough - will definitely be back!
From the moment we arrived I knew we had found an absolute gem of a place. The building was attractive, the welcome instantly put us at ease and the garden terrace was charming, where we enjoyed fabulous cocktails. The staff couldnt do enough to make us feel welcom and the menu was one of the most interesting wed seen in a long time. When the food arrived we werent dissapointed, the aubergine taco starter was great and the chocolate brownie and ice cream was divine. We had an absolutely brilliant evening, thoroughly approve of the social enterprise ethos, the prices were very reasonable and I just couldnt leave without a tea-towel and jar of carrot jam. Well keep be back as often as we can and well happily spred the word.
My friend is vegan so we went to this cafe. The garden area is so beautiful and the upstairs of cafe is so lovely. The staff are really friendly and try to meet your needs (as long as it isnt meat lol)I had the cauliflower cheese (mac and cheesethat came with a cold salad. It was okay but very new to me.My friend had a burger and seemed to really enjoy it.We both had their desert of the day and they were lovely. If you have a sweet tooth youd really enjoy it
Smiley happy people serving solely vegetarians and vegans.Liked the rear outside space.Food was served fairly quickly and rather well presented.Would definitely recommend to those non meat eaters..... And their friends.
Absolutely mind blowing experience, from start to finish.Starting with the venue, its a beautiful old building with multiple floors and outdoor seating, complete with decor that youd expect from a cafe with this name. The upstairs features an amazing seating area that is accessible by a spiral staircase reminiscent of one from an old Dutch studio. My girlfriend and I were warmly greeted by a host of super friendly waitresses (one red haired and one brunette with braids... you know who you are:and waiters. Immediately we were offered menus and had our drinks order taken. Even on a Friday night, the service never felt slow. What followed was some of the best vegan food either of us had ever tried: The cheese platter with cheese by Honestly Tasty which blew us away, had flavours my girlfriend and I have missed so dearly ever since we made the switch to vegan. We had the Tofu Steak and the burger as a main, both of which were delicious. The Tofu steak had a texture I didnt believe was possible to achieve and will be spending a lot of time trying to recreate at home. The burger was delicious too, although the buns were a bit dry and crumbly (and this is my only nitpick of the entire evening). As a side we had the Cauliflower Cheese which I could have had twice, it was so good.We finished this fantastic feast off with the boozy cherry brownie (cant remember if thats what it was calledwhich satisfied the very last need we had for the entire evening. We were sitting at our table with our buttons unbuttoned, trying not to explode from all the delicious food we had just eaten. All of this paired with a few glasses of the House Red had us both agreeing that this was the best dinner out we ever had.10/5 will definitely come again, there are still items on the menu we need to try.
Delicious vegan food and drinks, very reasonably priced and super, super friendly staff! Would absolutely recommend, they also have a cute little garden facing away from the street for warmer days!
I love the vibe and decor of the cafe, it is very amazing. The menu was also interesting and had a lot of new items to try. I overall loved the experience and the staff were extremely friendly. I would love to go back here when restaurants open again.
Great food with a good heart as they are giving back to the community! We went there for Saturday brunch. Ambience is good, I love house plants and they have plenty of it. The service was great and friendly. The food was superb! Really good portion too that we have to skip the dessert. We will recommend to all our friends to try! ☺️
Absolutely one of the best places Ive ever eaten. The cheese board was unreal, and the Korean kebabs were the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, sour and salt, absolutely nailed it. Topped it off with a deliciously gooey salted caramel brownie. Amazing service, impressed the staff can go up and down the narrow spiral staircase! Beautiful atmosphere, loved all the paintings and interior design, with a great choice of music too. 10/10 cant wait to come back.
BEAUTIFUL PLACE WITH THE MOST AMAZING FRONT OF HOUSE TEAM EVER!!!But wait, it gets even better... THE FOOD IS TO DIE FOR! I could eat the entire menu twice in one sitting and still find new flavours to fall in love with. Definitely my favourite restaurant south of the river.Having the roast there several times I can definitely say it is the best roast (not only veganthat I have ever had. Veggies are spot on, gravy gives me goosebumps and the roast itself is pure bliss. Always remember that our species has a separate stomach for desserts. You just need one spoon to trigger that chain reaction. 🙃Never managed to get there for business lunch but my pips working Oval certainly recomend it. Worth noting, the specials are put on the blackboard, so remember to ask your server about them! 😊Plenty of sitting space, however sometimes it can get crowded as guest are not rushed to leave. Definitely worth waiting. Just bring a nibble with you in case you need to wait for a table😉
Great service and array of food. Fresh tasting and lots of things you might not normally get. Highly recommended. Every dish was good and nice sized beer garden. Walkable from oval tube station and lots of buses go by. Would like to go back and try some other things on the menu.
