Classic French bistro fare served on a romantic patio or in a warm dining room with brick walls.
Cafe Stella in North Glendale
Description
Privilege
Extremely overpriced cocktails and wine with their newly increased prices. A glass of wine now costs $19-22! Cocktails start at $20 (used to be $17 a short few months ago). Absolutely ridiculous! Their restaurant is equally overpriced and food is average absolutely nothing to go back for.
MoreI hate this place. They charged me twice for my meal because their cars machines weren’t working and after months of trying to get in contact and receive a refund for the money they owe me, they’ve ignored all my emails and have been unhelpful on the phone. Snobby restaurant run by snobby unhelpful people
MoreFrench restaurant with a fun bar attached. I recommend going to the bar for drinks - always full, good music and great vibes. The restaurant is nice, mostly French dishes. We enjoyed the burger and the cheese plate. Oysters were very fresh. However the escargots and the mussels lacked flavor. For dessert, the crema brûlée is the way to go. Prices are high. Service was quick, reservations recommended.
MoreCrazy overpriced for mediocre food. Nothing special at all. Drinks were very lame. Wait service and maitre’d both completely flat and snooty and very unimpressive. Live music is the only positive thing I can say about it. I don’t know what people are thinking giving this a positive review. I was really shocked. I go to plenty of restaurants in Los Angeles and I’ve never seen such average food for such high prices.
MoreI absolutely love this bar. Gorgeous atmosphere. Fantastic bartenders. Its one of the best spots in LA. Dont miss it.
MoreGreat! Far too expensive with tip for three of us no starters just one pudding to share $400
MoreFantastic atmosphere/ambiance, live jazz music, very good food. Really a nice evening. Parking around the area WILL be tough, so give yourself time. In fact, if you cant walk, Uber.As with many restaurants post-covid, youll probably need a reservation as well. They have a decent amount of seating capacity, but its good food with good atmosphere, so expect a bit of a crowd.
MoreI might go back here just for the sommeliers, but seriously, it was a bit pretentious. Way overpriced for a big room with lots of stodgy old business travelers with nothing better to do than show off their wine knowledge to each other.
MoreDinner tonight was my first time visiting here and I regret that I have not been here sooner. I had a really nice experience and aside from a few hiccups it was a really good dinner with a great vibe. Just to start I really like the design, almost an outdoor inside type of feeling. I especially like the lighting since it’s very low and resembles candlelight. The live jazz was perhaps the true icing on the cake in terms of what made it an enjoyable setting. The music was not too loud that we could not hear each other talking but loud enough that it drowned out the tables around us.I will admit service was pretty slow at the beginning and we had to wait awhile to get our check after we finished but I don’t blame the server at all she was very polite and everyone we saw was working hard I just think they were short staffed tonight. I started off with the beet salad with blue cheese and it was very tasty. Very light and refreshing and was a great start. For my entree I chose the Dover Sole and it was delicious; I finished every bit of it.Overall I would recommend to anyone, especially if you’re a fan of bistro style French cuisine. I would say it’s a casual setting so it would be ideal for a date or a dinner with friends. Parking can be a pain in the area however they do provide valet. It is a bit more expensive than some other bistros but they do have large portion sizes and it is quality.
MoreService was great, beers ($7was delcious, appetizers were average. Great place to try choice wines and beers. Crowd is pretty mixed, I really dont think you can narrow it down.
MoreAwesome location and drinks were great!
Nice warm ambiance but to me, the food is everything. We had a reservation for 4 and they were able to accommodate 6 of us that showed up. We had a cocktail in the patio while we all arrived. The menu looked pretty classic and i love it when chefs make classics perfect instead of trying too hard to innovate and ruining the original meals. This happens a lot in LA. To me, everything was perfect. At the table we ordered oysters that were nice and fresh and champagne. Perfect pairing! Nice champagne! Then ordered the frittes with filet mignon. Ive ordered this dish in other French and Belgian restaurants and this one is the best. Perfect fries, perfect filet mignon with herb butter. The butter and baguette were so great, Im still licking myself thinking about it. Perfect creme brulee, and these other puffs with cream and ganache. I gotta come back cause that is all i could fit in. Super recommended. The only negative thing about this place is that there are no options on the menu for vegans. Theres like a side plate of grilled vegetables, and thats no fun as an entree. I have many vegan friends and Im sad that i cant bring them. But lucky for me, Im not vegan so Ill be there again soon.
MoreBeen coming here for years but it seems they have become fully antagonistic to vegans. They used to do an off-menu vegan option that was "chefs choice" and always great. Tonight the server agreed, quite grudgingly, to ask the kitchen for a vegan entree ... what we got was the Bibb lettuce salad, not even with veggies added.
MoreAuthentic French food and oh so good. The Host was PHENOMENAL...so kind and animated. I love Cafe Stella once again.
MoreSuch lovely and incredibly well trained bar tender and the maitre’d found a way to seat us at the wine bar with a very full restaurant. An incredible experience.
MoreCafe Stella is such a cool place with an amazing vibe! The decor is super cool and the crowd is beautiful. I really loved Bar Stella where they serve the best cocktails I have ever had. Thanks especially to Vini who treted us extraordinarily!
MoreI absolutely love this Café, Ive been coming here consistently and Ive tried various items on the menu and Ive got to say everything is of great quality and taste. My first time coming here I was served by Angel and all I can say is 10/10. I have to say that I will ask for him every time I come in the hopes that hell be my server everytime.
MoreGreate service with adjacent Full bar lounge area. Next is a trendy coffee house. Sunset Junction is alternative of going west towards Hollywood as happening part of LA Italian American cuisine, parking generally hard here. RZED.
MoreExcellent food. Excellent service. Excellent atmosphere. I loved it! Highly recommend. It was a nice, chill, cafe vibe, with French style food. Excellent!
MoreI was there two years ago as I was on holidays in LA. I am french so when my friend made a reservation there I was a bit suspicious but OMG, it was literally one of the best french restaurant I ever visited outside of France!! Everything was great from the wine, to the main dish to the dessert! I cant wait to come back soon!
MoreReally cool and unique little cocktail spot! I heard they have food as well.
Cutest Little restaurant French in Silver Lake. Ive been here for both brunch and dinner. The ambience is quaint and very "Instagram worthy " (if you care about that type of thing). The drinks are a little pricey but totally worth it. I highly recommend the lemon ricotta pancakes for brunch and the Rigatoni Provencal for dinner. If youre up for dessert, you must order the Crème brûlée its absolutely divine. The servers and hostess were incredibly polite and friendly which is always a plus.
MoreThis is by far one of the best places to eat. Their French onion soup is one of the best I’ve ever had (and I’ve travelled the world). All of their food is the best and our server Paul was one of most engaging servers I’ve experienced - very knowledgeable to match the greatness in taste. Please take the time to experience any item on their menu - with a date or good friend.
MoreThe steak frites is dreamy! Even the complimentary bread and butter was delicious. Start the evening with a great cocktail and a lounge on the leather sofas next door at Bar Stella, then eat at Cafe Stella. Theres a great vibe in both places. And as someone whos been to Paris several times; this place actually does feel and taste like a French restaurant.
MoreLove this place. The bartenders are perfection for me. Classy joint without all the fuss. Very welcoming. Great ambiance!! I will continue to frequent this place. 5 stars !!!
MoreGreat food and service. Fantastic ambiance. Well priced.
My favorite bar in LA/Silverlake. The drinks are amazing, the ambiance is classy but not uncomfortably fancy, the cocktails have a touch that is just special and unforgettable. I just love to go there for a great meal, a casual drink or just enjoying a cocktail at the end of the day.
MoreNot easy to find parking and I found this armless doll on the hood of my Jeep when I returned to it. I parked on the street and came back to a "Welcome to LA" treat. May I suggest using the valet parking option at Cafe Stella, its about $5. No creepy fools on hoods. The food was great, I had the avacado toast. The environment is kitchy cool and the hostess was great! Seems like she knew everyone or at least treated folks like she did. I would totally go there again, yet park using valet.
MoreI liked this cozy spot in sunset junction. I tried some delicious truffle fries (though serving was smalland really good avocado toast. My friends also enjoyed their lunches well. Unfortunately the vegan choices are really limited. The restaurant covered patio is very quaint. They have off street parking in the back.
MoreSome of my favorite mixed drinks ever. When it’s not crowded this is the perfect place to catch up with old friends and to make new ones.
MoreMaybe the drinks are good, but we stopped in for dessert and cocktails at 10pm, and after seating us the waitress said dessert could only be had at the bar so if we werent doing full dinner we had to leave our table immediately. Kinda weird since we were in a row of 4 empty tables and the bar didnt serve dessert? Very uncomfortable and no dessert to be found, so we left.
MoreWhat a very unfortunate first and last experience at Cafe Stella! My parents arrived in town late at night and we decided to go nearby for a night cap at Cafe Stella. My mom ordered an $18 glass of wine - It was a weak pour, but she didnt mind. When it came time to order another, my mom kindly asked that the bar tender give her a stronger pour. Keep in mind - my mom is a harmless, courteous, 60 year-old woman. To this request, the bar tender rudely snapped back "you can pay for that." My dad looked up at the bar tender and said "what?" with a sound of exasperation. To this, the bar tender put my Dads cash on the table and refused to serve us another drink. Considering we were courteous customers making a very benign request (for an $18 glass of wineyou would think we would be treated a bit better. What a shame that my local bar has such rude staff - I will never be back and would never recommend Cafe Stella to a friend out of fear they may be treated as poorly as my family.
MoreFood was good but the server was pretty snobby. I mean was she taking the French vibe too literally? I checked out other French restaurants in LA, and they were all great including their warm service, this one however needs to improve by a wide margin.
MoreAwesome experience with dates! They loved the lamb sausage! A little bit spicy but delicious
MoreI finally got to check this place out. Huge fan. Servers are friendly, environment is pretty awesome. Food was excellent. Felt like I couldnt even finish my coffee before they filled it up again. No complaints. Love this place.
MoreAt night, this is my favorite place in Silverlake to grab a drink. Great atmosphere, unbeatable cocktails. Its moody, its packed, its often hard to get a seat, and its great because of it. If youre in the area and want a good drink, or if you want to take a date to a cool spot this is one bar to check out for sure.
MoreOnly been to this restaurant for dinner. Ive had the duck, escargot, bread pudding and neither of them disappointed. Havent found another place that has managed to cook duck the way this place does, it was amazing. Reservation are required I believe but making one is super easy since you can reserve online. The escargot was so tasty as well!
MoreWhat an amazing restaurant. Staff are helpful and nearly fully knowledgeable. I came here for both lunch and dinner and tasted a significant amount of the items on their menu. Food is absolutely delicious, they do everything right from taste to palate to presentation. Their wine list is carefully picked, they have a Sommelier during dinner hours, not sure if one was around for lunch. We had an amazing natural Chardonnay by Scar of the Sea and another bottle of French Provence Rosé wine both absolutely delicious. Must come here again! This place is top.
MoreFood was great the server was excellent. The only reason for the three star review was the bartender skipped over my brother and myself multiple times when we had been standing trying to get her attention yet she served the women who had just walked up to the bar when we had been waiting?! This was angering when she looked directly at us yet ignored us and went on to serve the women who had just walked up instead.... As a bartender you should know first come first serve yet we got skipped over four times for women who had just walked up to the bar when we made it clear from body language and hand gesture that we wanted to order. Thats Just disrespectful and angering when we would have rated this 5 stars had it not been for the bartender...
MoreCafe Stella is an iconic Silver Lake eateryspecializing in classical French bistro dishes. We arrived just before 9 pm on Thursday night to discover the restaurant was filled to capacity. Luckily for us, the clever hostess found us a nice booth kind of hidden in a corner of the bar. Food was brilliant, as usual. Stella is not a cheap date, but, while rather pricy, the high quality ingredients and masterful preparation make for exceptionally good value. A great place for special occasions or when you just feel like being spoiled and indulged. 🇫🇷
MoreWas a nice place, good drinks. I’d recommend only using cash since the bar tenders occasionally drink with their clients and tend to lose things. I only got two drinks before closing out only to find they “misplaced” my card. Two days later and still no help. Time to cancel my visa. What a headache.
MoreGreat location, great vibes, good menu. Not so great service. Were a party of 3 adults and a 6 year old. The decor is a perfect mix of French brasserie style and LA charm. The menu was perfect french fare. We unfortunately experienced sub-par service but I was assured by a regular that it wasnt typically like this. Would try again as I love a gorgeous, casual French spot and this one was very special. The Stella salad is worth a skip though. Lean into the french-inspired dishes. The croque-madame was a hit.
MoreThe menu is broad with good choices for most types of eaters. The wine list is wonderful and our server, Casey, was charming, knowledgable with respect to the wines, and attentive. Service was 5 star. I found the fennel salad to be overdressed, and the Halibut a bit bland and overcooked. At $35 for the plate of fish I expected something closer to perfection, which ultimately led me to a 4 star rating. But our other dishes were excellent, the mushroom pasta is a must. I will definitely return to sample the menu further and hopefully add another star to this review.
MoreI had dinner and drinks with a business associate. We were marking successful completion of a project.I arrived early and had a happy hour cocktail in the small bar. Then we had an appetizer, entree and i ate dessert. There is a very high level of service and an emphasis on excellent presentation. The food was very good i thought — almost delicate in the use of flavors and precise preparation. There was not the showy use of flavor one sometimes finds in French cuisine nouvelle, and so maybe not quite the delight i hoped for, but no fault could be found. The decor is bohemian charming and they are not apologizing for their prices, but an excellent experience.
MoreGreat bar. Perfect spot to impress your significant other. Candlelit + alcohol = winning.
MoreYou cant beat the ambience here. Most of the seating is in a very charming outdoor patio. The interiors consist of various rooms intertwined together. Nothing else in L.A. like it. Good wine and cocktail selection. They have a great lunch and dinner menu. Service is generally very good. It is expensive. Ive heard a lot of people mention this wondering if the food was actually worth it. I dont know. But I always find myself going back. One of Silver Lakes classic establishments. Be prepared for charm and dont worry about the cost and you will enjoy it.
MoreThe food is great as is the atmosphere. The decor really makes you feel like you are in a fancy French bistro somewhere in Paris. The staff has always been friendly and nice to me. The only down side is the price which seems a little high even for this trendy corner.
MoreAn LA staple. Great food, exclusive, artsy clientele great, friendly service, beautiful decor. You feel like you are eating in a picturesque grotto. Flavorful entrees with a great bar attached that attracts cool kids, musicians and artists. Its the exact type of place youd expect to find the Intelligentsia crowd (which is located next doorin the evenings. I love this hotspot.
MoreCame for brunch twice. Enjoyed both times Ive been here. Really recommend the bar area you enter off Sunset. They do a great job with the beverages here and the atmosphere is excellent. The restaurants garden area is also a great place to be seated.
MoreNot worth the price. The food was good but not mind blowing, and not worth $60 per person. Scallops were gritty and there were only 3 on a $28 plate. When we complained they said sorry but didnt comp us anything. In the end, the quantity/quality/price ratio was completely off.
