Café Sacher Innsbruck - Cafe in Innsbruck, Austria
Horrible experience. Although I can forget the long line to enter and the unjustified high prices, the poor quality of the food / drinks and the complete rudeness and ineptitude of the staff make me suggest to everyone not to go there for any reason.
DONT GO THERE.We arrived at 4:40 pm and they told us they were closing but their closing time, clearly written on the door, is 6 pm. I went there years ago and i am very disappointed about this situation, i dont think we will come back again.
In short, a tourist trap! We had a reservation to lunch (confirmed by emailand, when we got there, they said the booking system was not working, but we were “lucky” there was room for five. We wanted to eat something besides a sacher cake, we had a look at the menu but the waitress did not allow us to order, asking how many cakes she should bring. We ended up paying 50+ € for five pieces of cake and a still water bottle, which we think they had previously refilled with tap water at the incredible price of 8€. In addition to this, the service was very rude and unprofessional. That said, the sacher cake was not bad.
Got the 15EUR set which included cake and hot beverage. Cake was too sweet so it was great to combine with tea to somehow lessen the sweetness.
The service was rude and unpolite. Extremely overpriced (coffee for 10 euros). The cake was nice but nothing exceptional. They didnt even bring us a glass of water with it.
Very rude server! The server might be busy, but thats no excuse for making faces or Behaving poorly to the customers. The food was okay, but nothing special.
Really really dry cake. Dont bother to go! Also coffee machine is not proper. Some button machine not handle machine. Cake is 7,90€. Really not worth it!
Not too friendly, but can buy original Sachertorte
Very friendly waiter, and overall excellence as you would expect from Sacher franchise.
We went in at opening hours. It was totally empty, couldn’t even see the staff. We were waiting a bit to get seated (as there is a sign after the entrance to wait). Other tourists came in and we all were wondering what’s going on and finally we just left. It was so confusing
Retained feel of an old hotel lobby, the cake was somewhat dry but the service and atmosphere were great.
The Sachertorte was really nice, tea and hot chocolate were average. Obviously its a pricey cafe because it serves the original cake. The environment and the furniture were also really nice.
Show up at 1720, wait 10 minutes for the waitress to show up and tell us the Kitchen closes at 1800, so she cant seat us.If youre willing to pay €70 for an average cake, delivered with terrible service, this is your place. Otherwise, take my word when I say the world-famous Sachertorte is over-hyped.Also, the bathroom is disgusting!
We have been there lots of times over the years pre covid but when we went there on a weekday early afternoon, there was only one waitress serving 4 tables. We stood by the entrance to be seated for a good while. I could see she was busy, but she couldnt miss us standing there on top of the stairs. We left again, other places have also got delicious Sachertorten. Maybe well come back.
By far the worst of all the Café Sachers I’ve visited. Terrible service, and wait staff couldn’t even speak German. I’d recommend visiting the locations in Salzburg and Vienna which are truly amazing experiences, and skipping this one. It definitely does not live up to the name.
Beautiful experience, luxurious and memorable in Innsbruck. More low-key as other locations I experienced including Vienna and Salzburg. Its a must when visiting these cities including beautiful Innsbruck, Sacher remains legendary.
Overall a disappointing experience. Sachertorte was dry and (considering the price rangeI would have expected the coffee to be from a portafilter machine. Inside there was an unpleasant kitchen smell (It was raining, so we sat inside).
Visited in August 2020. Seemed overrated to us. A nice waitress was working her *ss off, the manager was busy doing nothing. Cake okay, but not worth coming back for. Meets lot of criteria to be a tourist trap.
Unfortunately, this place was an absolute let down and is not recommendable.First off, I highly appreciate these traditional places that are part of a cities culture and have survived a bunch of different trends of the years and have stayed true to their original identity. This is somewhat what I expected when coming here, since the Café Sacher in Vienna is a true Austrian legend -The one in Innsbruck looks amazing from the outside and has kept up some of its original charm on the inside, but overall it’s just a dingy old tourist café - with a terrible service, a dirty looking interior that desperately needs an overhaul and a collection of regular guests that probably ordered their first alcoholic beverage at 10am that morning.Pleas excuse the missing pics from the inside. After getting past the nasty smell, I sat down for about 2 minutes before deciding to leave this place.
Just 2 starsWe came in and cafe was empty. We ordered drinks and 3 couples came. Girls served 3 couples walking around checking her phone and didnt ask if we wants to order. I had to go at the bar and asked her if she can take our order. She answered YES but you could see how much I bothered her.Cake was very good. But service was tragic. It could be amazing place
Year after year it seems to worsen. The Wien or Salzburg Cafe Sacher are still very good and well worth the visit. However the Innsbruck one is starting to seem ran down, the waiters are rude and indelicate; the bathroom is not as clean as it once was; worse of all, the food is below average on all but the price. And if you come for the staple Sacher Torte you might be in for a disappointment, it was dry and tasteless. Also, they messed up not only the order but also the check.
I love Sacher Torte and this time we were lucky that there was one free table for us straight away and we did not have to queue. The selection of cakes and coffee is traditional and we like it this way. We went for coffee, Sacher torte and Strudl. It was awesome as always😀. The place is usually very crowdy and mostly you need to queue for a free table. Thank you and anytime again.
Classic, average atmosphere, waiters seemed in hurry while the place was not busy. The desert I ordered was average, nothing special.Asked for milk (in English and Germanthe waiter nodded and that was it.. no milk.
People are lining on the door, we waited too long and then got one cake and the second after 10 minutes. Waitress is not doing a good job, she is not well organised and does not communicate and organise guests. Finally, the cakes are disappointing, I expected lot better.
Historic and overrated. Popular with tourists. Sachertorte (or their signature Sacher cakeis over-hyped. You might like it because of its media reputation, and it is not too bad - but there are much much better cake options (some in this cafe too). Service was slow and unprofessional. We asked three times for the bill and it took over 15 minutes to pay (and the cafe was almost empty). Go if you must, but do not expect much.
We waited in the line for 15 min and when we arrived to the front, the waiter physically pushed us back (instead of asking politelyto make space in the entrance. He didnt care that there was no space behind us to move back. We left immediately.
A timeless classic, a must go to if visiting the city of Innsbruck. Best chocolate slice in the business.
What a delightful experience! The sacher torte is a MUST! We cant say this is significantly better than any other place around, as this is the first one we tried. But this cafe claims to be the original! The whipped cream is thick and absolutely delicious. We also ordered coffees, which were decadent! Just for reference the sacher torte was 7.50 euro and the coffee was 4.50 euro. You can even order sacher torte to take home with you along with other souvenirs!
I went to this lovely café in 2013. My wife and I still talk about our lovely experience here. I miss the little desert tower and the afternoon tea. Delightful little place.
Great history and location. A must-see in Innsbruck. Also, have a look at the story of the Hotel, and its famous Sacher. 4stars only because it is a bit too expensive, but overall it is definitely worth. Great eperience.
Its a must visit. We went to the Sacher hotel in Salzburg where the idea originated and this cafe does not let you down.Cake and coffee with cream galore!!!
The best chocolate cake you can get in Austria
Great ambience, quaint and quiet. Its as if the surroundings also want you to enjoy the amazing Sacher Torte and coffee! Definitely a must do during your visit to the old town of Innsbruck.
For someone who claims to be an original Vienna caffee house we experienced a very low standard. The espresso, I had, was a long black served in a mokka-cup. No caffee-house music and the waiter did not make the impression to be enjoying its work....Pity. Cannit recommend at all.
Very nice atmosphere. Unfortunately price quality not so good. We ordered 2 double espresso (it was as filtered coffeeand strudel. This was very bad. Even we explained that, no reaction from the personnel. So at the end we did pay only for the nice atmosphere.
We had such high hopes. It is such an iconic cake and in such a pitturesque place. Boy were we in for a surprise. The whole place feels neglected, abandoned with absolutely no atmosphere whatsoever. My friend had visited the shop in Vienna and tells me it is like night and day, the place in Innsbruck being night. Poorly displayed cakes, tucked away, and poor choice as well. Personally, I think it urgently needs to be revamped. Only good thing: very drinkable prosecco!
The original Sacher torte is great. Must try!!!
I can understand that an original Sacher torte slice cost 7.10€ but I cannot accept that such high-quality brand serves the tea in dirty teapot. Also, the waiter service was very bad, nothing compared to the Hotel Sacher I have been to in Salzburg.
The original Sache Torte! I found it rich in more ways than one (its also expensive, get it?). Even though the cafe is pretty, I would still recommend having the cake for takeaway, because the wooden takeaway box is so beautiful its an awesome souvenir in itself. And once in awhile you can open it and get a whiff of the Sache Torte aroma and get high on the reminiscence.
Amazing place in the old town of Innsbruck to have breakfast and taste this amazing cake, typical of the country; lots of peope have suggested us this Cafè, both visitors and locals, and our expectations were satisfied. Sacher was great, and the place is classy, elegant; moreover, the service is welcoming, and it feels like being into a royal palace, concerning the atmosphere. Just consider that Sacher Cafè is not properly a cheap place, indeed is quite expensive: the average cost of a breakfast for example, is obviously higher than other bars, but its worth it, for the experience of tasting this typical dessert in the most suggested Cafè of this city. Average, in case you want to know: for a couple of italian coffees and a couple of Sacher slices , we spent almost 15 euros.
Very rude elder female waitress! Unfriendly to the customer and let me feel sie is so ugly. Nobody cared we were in the restaurant, we had to find a table by ourself and wait and wait. After a long time, the waitress came by but did not care us at all!! I asked we wanted to order, she applied without any smile in german’ it takes time/es dauert Zeit’, that is all??i must say she was rude to us and I feel discriminated. later the cafe flowed outside the cup, very bad experience. We had two cafe und one cake, my husband gave her 18 euro, 2 euro as tip. He was too nice to such a rude elder woman. I was only one day in the county and have got bad impression of the county.
The chocolate torte was somewhat underwhelming and too dry. Melange is worth trying. Also the "Kasestrudel" was quite nice. Staffs were nice and friendly.
Food is good , the serivce was okay! Not bad after all! Can give it a try. But personally i like Sacher in Salzburg more. The classic choclate cake was ok. Not very impressive. Other cakes might be even better.
Everything that could have, went wrong.#longwaiting #wrongfood #incompetentpersonel #overpricedFirst we had to wait 5min at the entrance sign which said we will be seated...after no personel came, we just went on and took seats at an empty table, only to have a waiter remove us from there 5min later saying the whole area is reserved and we had to go to the cafe part at the entrance...only to later say we cannot order breakfast there and suddenly conjuring a table for us again in the area we were seates before (a lot of hassle for an expensive breakfast, and that was just the start). After we order simple food (eggs, butter and brioche bread x2the waiter first brought butter and different kind of bread and left. After 10min he was passing by and we called him to say we ordered brioche, he took the bread and left. 10min later he brought the eggs and left. So we had butter and eggs (which were cooling downbut no bread 😐..and had to stand up and go find the waiter, who was actually the manager (or sth like thatand asked us to show him the brioche on the menu, as he did not even know they offer something like that 😵 (the menu has about 3 pages, seriously?another 5min later a differnt waiter comes, puts a box on our table saying "we dont have brioche, here are croissants" and leaves. No apology or choice of something else. We didnt argue anymore, as we sure deserved something to eat finally after all the waiting...and to top the bad experience, we pay the full price 26eur for 2 people (coffee, eggs, butter and bread)..and after checking the bill realize that most of the prices do not match the menu and every item is about 0.5-1€ more expensive 😤. The owner acts surprised, says its their mistake (well of course!and pays us 3€ back. No free cake or vouchers for coffee...or a reason to ever come back or recommend the place. So here it is: totally not coming back. Although the location is good and the place itself looks nice, for that price there are much better places to have breakfast/brunch in Innsbruck 💪
One of the gems of Innsbruck old town and highly recommended. We went for breakfast and had an extraordinary selection of well prepared food, we didnt eat until evening! We also went back to sample the world famous Sacher Torte which deserves its reputation, absolutely delicious, we took ours away and had it for lunch. Very good value for money, especially the breakfast. Highly recommended.
A must for Innsbruck... the original and traditional Sacher Torte. A placed visited by VIPs but with good food, excellent beverage and deserts. Lovely place!
Very friendly staff. Only strange thing was that we were the only customers in the café. It was in the evening, after having dinner, but we thought it was a little bit awkward. Otherwise, its a nice place and has a terrace.
Went as a couple. Famous for its torte and extremely busy due to itVisit was later in evening after dinner and drinks elsewhereDecoration was traditional and matching and the desert eaten was tasty though a little too touristy for my taste
We found ourselves in Innsbruck visiting friends a year ago. Our friends brought us here and it was magical. Most, not to get to romantic here but we are from America and who doesnt see a bit of magic in going to places far away from home. We thoroughly enjoyed our time here. I hope you find yourself able to visit this place, from far away or next door.
This place is highly recommended for breakfast. Really good fruit plates, omeletes, cakes etc. Food is ok - not as good as breakfast but for Innsbruck one of the best - still very average. What is really frustrating is their service, attitude and system in general. Its definitely not the fault of the waiting staff who are trying their best but the managements / maitres who have no idea what customer service is about and are quite rude.
