Self-serve eatery dishing up Mexican classics including hand-rolled tortillas, burritos & tacos.
Should have read the reviews on this location before we stopped here. We LOVE Cafe Rio, and when I say love if we had to pick something to eat the rest of our lives it would be Cafe Rio. We love the sweet pork. 1st there was like 10 employees and not one greeted even as we were standing in line (no biggie brushed it offthen I order 2 Sweet Pork salads - usually the employee will melt a little cheese on the tortilla but he didn’t, so I requested it on the next. He left that tortilla on the grill until it was basically a cheese crisp and then put the salad on the Burt tortilla. The sweet pork was super runny- I have never seen it so liquid. The lettuce was out, the pico was out, the house sauce was super low. We chose house sauce was the dressing and only got 1 for 2 salads. It just felt like a run-down Cafe Rio and the employees had no direction or constructive help.. we had to go back through the drive through after we realized we only got 1 dressing instead of 2.
Bruh I literally spent 15$ on two tacos that barely filled me. I can literally just go to other places and get 3x the amount of food for 3$
Great customer service from the cashier and kitchen crew! Very patient although they seemed a little rushed and didnt make you feel very comfortable when browsing the toppings/mix-ins. I could understand working here and dealing with locals who know what Cafe Rio has to offer day in and day out. As a first timer, I felt rushed. The food was great. My boyfriend and I both got two tacos, which come with rice and your choice of black or pinto beans. They do offer one taco meals, and that would have sufficed because theyre pretty filling. I ordered the pork barbacoa (entirely too runny, oily, and sweetin one taco and shredded chicken in the other. The chicken was pretty great! I regret not getting chicken in both tacos. My boyfriend ordered a new, seasonal meat called pollo asada. Think chicken, but with a flavorful, lightly citrus taste. He also ordered the horchata (Mexican rice drinkand that was pretty good as well. We also got the chips and salsa which were fresh and crispy and the salsa is one of my top 3 that Ive had.
Made me sick. I had grilled chicken tacos with rice and beans. All the food lacked flavor. This is Utah Mexican... bland bland bland
Lol you gotta be kidding with the size of these tacos… seriously like a 3 bite. And this was the same for all 4 of the tacos we got. This location in particular has major issues, messed up my drive through order twice, two trips back to this lovely establishment
Its really good...I took a point off because the black beans werent cooked properly. They rushed it.... They werent melt in your mouth.
Ordered extra pork and paid for it, got less. No wonder your not busy and costa vida is busy. Cafe rio service is horrible and they should be ashamed!Second review. Ordered sweet pork and they gave me steaks caused allergic reaction! They can’t take a simple order here and my recipt says pork. This place needs to fix there problems. Every single time I’ve come here they get my order wrong. Manager or owner this should be embarrassing to you, and shameful.
I have no idea what was in the beef tacos we ordered 🤢. I think it was a part of the cow that shouldn’t be eaten. Seriously disgusting. Will never eat here again.
Guacamole was brown and tasted rotten. Chicken was overcooked. Got the wrong salad dressing.Sweet pork was good.Service was good.
Had a large order that I called in for pick-up. They got it all ready quickly and got all the order details I gave them correctly, and their customer service was awesome! Thank you!!
The owner/manager of this restaurant should be ashamed of themselves. I rarely feel compelled to write a review, but this cafe Rio is DISGUSTING. I have never been to any restaurant, let alone a cafe Rio, that is so incredibly filthy. The restroom did not appear to have been cleaned in weeks. There was feces impacted into the toilet, urine all over the floor, and the paper towels were sitting on the ground in a puddle of urine. I have never seen high chairs as disgusting as the ones at this location. I would not be surprised if they haven’t been wiped down in years. Our food was not great either. I have eaten at cafe rios dozens of times and have loved this chain for well over a decade, but this one should be shut down. The fact that the place is so filthy makes me wonder about the kitchen. After going in the restroom, I couldn’t finish my meal for fear of food poisoning. NEVER eat here. Get it together guys. This is not how Cafe Rio is supposed to look/smell/taste.
Without fail this location in Cedar City messes up our order EVERY single time. Its specified on the online order and its like they just dont read it at all and make whatever they want. I expect my order to come out correct and if they make it wrong they will give you an attitude and a hard time if they have to remake anything. They are so slow like 20-30 minutes past original pick up time slow. I love Cafe Rio. I have been a customer since the first store opened many many moons ago. Im not sure whats happening at the Cedar City location but between the quality of food they put out and the awful staff we wont be going back.
I was conflicted on writing this review as I actually really do like cafe rio. However I have never once been asked to leave a “tip” at a drive through window and it really rubbed me the wrong way today when it happened for the first time. Also, the meal I ordered was supposed to include lettuce, sour cream, and guacamole and I got none of that. I’ll never return to this location. Enjoy the “tip”, Cameron at the drive thru.
I have to shout out the employees at the cedar cafe rio. They have always been so kind and go above and beyond to help us out. They seem stressed, overworked, and underpaid but I just wanted to shout them out for the great service regardless.
Don’t order online/app. We put in an order 30 minutes early, came to an empty restaurant and people who came in 20 minutes after us got their food well before us. Delicious food. Operationally, makes me miss the original. No surprises why this particular location is barely above 3 stars.
They have amazing sweet pork and I loved them the first time I went. I would’ve gave 5 stars. They have enchilada sauce and they sang “that’s the way” when they gave it to you. I don’t mind that they didn’t sing this time, but they didn’t have the sauce. They also couldn’t explain if they ran out or what the deal was. They were very rude and I felt like they wanted me to get out of line when we asked about the sauce. He was really rude when I asked for sour cream too and couldn’t care less about any of the customers. Must hate his job. The energy was really bad and I don’t really want to come back again after that experience.
As a native utahn I have been to Many Cafe Rios and I would say that since they were bought out the quality has gone down. This place however tasted like I remember. I got the chicken burrito, my wife got the pork salad, and my daughter got the soup. My food was very good. I kept saying yum out loud. I dont know what this location is doing that the others arent, but my food was very good.
After a long day of hiking we stopped by Cafe Rio Mexican Grill on the way home. Food was excellent, portions big, and staff was very friendly. Overall an excellent experience.
I come to Cafe rio all the time because the food is so fresh and fast. I love that I can get a decent salad somewhere.
havent been here in a while, order always missing items. And I guess we are going back to Costa Vida. Employees need to be trained to check the orders.
Sometimes when you special order on the app, its not followed. Ie: no extra salsa, sour cream not added to burrito. For is still tasty!!
3 members of our party wanted the vinegaretre dressing. Upon ordering we were told that it would be ready in a moment. It took much longer than that. 2 ingredients in my salad were not up to standards. The pork was dry and missing the usual sweet seasoning. The cotija cheese was not available and the substitutes mozzarella was not a good combination to the salad. The most disappointing part of the visit was that when our birthday girl went to use the bathroom, there was no toilet paper available to clean up with. This poor 10 year old that wanted to visit Cafe Rio for her birthday ended up ruining a pair of underwear trying to clean up and coming out in tears to get napkins and then having to wait to get back into the bathroom. It is unacceptable for that to happen. There were plenty of staff working at the time. While most seemed busy, it was my observation that prior prep work was not completed earlier in the day to be prepared for a weekend evening. If the senior team members would have been prepared, then all of these issues could have been avoided. Though there were only about 6 tables occupied in the dining room. There were several cars waiting at the drive thru throughout our visit.
Friendly service.Food was fair, veggie means beans, no other veggies for a burrito, just beans. Maybe some sauteed onions, mushroom and peppers would be good. Rice was a bit undercooked and hard as well limited menu.
What a waste of $13. I should have just gone to Del Taco. Food was not all the way cooked and thrown together very carelessly. Hoping I dont get food poisoning like some other people on here.Service was pretty terrible, but Im also aware that everyone seemed like high school kids (no adults aroundand the Uvalde shooting was this past week, so I can understand why they would be apathetic about working a minimum wage job.
Absolutely terrible service, the employee making the food was throwing utensils around splashing salsa all over the other ingredients and himself. Tossed the guacamole scoop from a distance back into the container. The food area was an absolute mess. Zero pride or care in quality. My tacos were an absolute mess and slapped together without care. The employee at the register had zero customers service. I was asked if I wanted anything else, I asked for a small soda. The employee gave me my total then turned his back and walked away. No “enjoy your food”. No “thank you” nothing. In fact he didn’t even give me a cup I had to get my own cup. The employees seemed annoyed to be there. Seems by other reviews they need a new crew. Legitimately concerning situation from a food safety standpoint if they care so little about what they are doing. Won’t be back.
Its Costa Vida but dirtier and ran by kids. I saw a literal child cleaning chairs, looked to be 6-8 years old, they keep the lemonade in a bucket under a counter and use a ladle to poor it into cups. Teens throwing a wash rag back and forth over the food like a foot ball. Place was filthy.Im not joking about the Costa Vida part. Its literally a carbon copy of them. The salads, the burritos. Even the containers are identical. Costa Vida is like a mile down the road, super clean, with employees who clearly care. This place.... Was a disappointment.
Ordered a chicken salad with no pico or guacamole. Black beans. What I received was at first glance a chicken salad with pico. This was a mild inconvenience until i investigated further… there was GUACAMOLE. At this point i became slightly more annoyed. But then after meticulously picking out these two items from my salad i discovered the worst blunder I’ve ever seen in fast food. Pinto beans. I am disgusted and enraged.
Twice I went here and Twice I was screwed. Both times I ordered to go my order was not only wrong but inedible! I threw away food Twice from this place for errors in quality and accuracy! I will not go back to Cafe Rio! Their quality standards are just too sorry for what I expect from a restaurant!
They dont listen when u order food I told them my order they got it wrong & added another order of food that I dont order & wanted me to pay for the extra order, the lady that started making my food should had finished making my order another guy came in to make my order after she started & I had to tell him the same order the lady should had communicated to the man what my order was but dint these employees dont communicate with each other & noone of them r trained how to do their jobs this place was a joke
Not addressing with team but contacted corporate office. Read some of the other reviews and basically feel response from owner as not really caring. Care about your business. Get the right people working for you and make sure the quality going out matches the price point. This was ridiculous. Went thru drive thru. Hate to see how inside looked.Ok first time there when all the locals I know for past 2 years said dont eat. There. Spent $10.92 for salad. Got shredded beef and got a small piece of chuck roast type beef hidden under a bunch of lettuce. Little portion of cheese. And pinto beans. If I wanted a bag if lettuce I would go to walmart to get. Didnt provide a reciept. Now I know why drive thru is always empty during week. Weekend you getbthe travelors. Do not go there....waste of money.
Restrooms were filthy. Tables hadnt been cleaned, we had to wipe a table down so we could eat. Counter staff didnt seem to care. Theyre pushy and rude. Ive requested a total refund but the store manager only offered 3 free meals. I will NEVER go there again. For as much as this company charges for beans, rice and lettuce, youd think this company would care more about their stores and service. I had to dispute this charge with my bank. This is the 3rd time Ive tried this place and all 3 times were different stores. Its a company wide problem.
Wish I could’ve seen the reviews before I came here. I stopped here on my trip home and they took forever to even take my order. When I finally got my food, they had messed it up. I didn’t get what I ordered, the food was COLD, lettuce was wilted and the TINY tortilla with my salad wasn’t even cooked all the way. Cafe Rio is one of my favorite restaurants but this was disgusting. I would’ve come back to ask for a refund but I had to get back on the road. You would think they would improve after all these negative reviews, not this place.
Out of everything at 530pm. No steak, no salmon, no specialty drinks. No apology, no estimate of when or if it would be available. Disappointed. The only good thing was no line. Follow up: I received a message from the management apologizing for not having things in stock. He offered to send me some gift cards to come back and try it again. BUT he NEVER sent the cards. I will not be going back.5 months later…I guess we will never learn. Came back to give it one more try. Order said it would be ready in 15 minutes, at 8 pm. At 8 we waited and waited behind other upset customers who had been there as long as we had and they were told that they were out of grilled chicken and should choose something else. We didn’t order grilled chicken but continued to wait. Our order finally came out 20 minutes late. We watched the line clear out for dine in multiple times. ArghhhhhOh people were handing the toilet paper between bathrooms since one was out.
The worst looking and tasting Cafe Rio I have ever had. There were about ten employees working. Most of them looked like they hadn’t bathed in awhile. I showed up for my nachos that I paid for in advanced only to be told they are out of chips. The only reason I left with food is I had paid for it in advance and I was super hungry. The leaders of this store should be ashamed of themselves. Absolutely awful!.
Yesterday I came in around 12:00-ish, they were SLAMMED! You could tell that this place was understaffed, and super busy, but all of the employees were smiling, and kind, and nice, and working SO fast to help everyone in line!Ive worked in customer service for 12 years and the service I got from all of the employees was incredible, and the wait time wasnt long at all.THANK YOU ALL FOR SERVICING CEDAR CITY AND BEING THE BEST!
Very disappointed in the food tonight, ordered sweet pork burrito and tostadas in the drive through, and it was basically and empty burrito and tostadas. There was close to no meat in the burrito, and about the same on my tostadas. There was about 3 pieces of lettuce with my burrito, I understand sparingly on the meat but the lettuce as well??? Yeah tonight was not the night to go to Cafe Rio, I was very disappointed
I normally love Cafe Rio and we were in town for a funeral so we thought this would be a good bet. Placed an order online and was given the time to pick up. I showed up and it took several staff looking at me and no one helping me to finally get help. I told them my name and they hadnt started. Ok, fine. They had about 4 staff members trying to clean up to go home and 2 helping customers. They asked one to come over and help. Twice, I saw staff pick up stuff off the floor then handle food without changing gloves. Some retraining needs to be done there. An hour after I arrived my food was finally ready. There was no cheese on my quesadillas (we ordered a total of 5there were items missing, and it was just not good. Im glad I dont live here and that the Cafe Rio in my town is a hundred times better. Ill certainly never be back. I took photos, but I am too inept to figure out how to post them. Waste of $80+
Update: I got food poisoning from this visit.Id also like to add that this wasnt a busy night, everyone that came in with a pickup order had to wait awhile. In addition to the business replying, thank you, but Ill also note that this isnt the first time Ive had problems with this location. Ive gotten home without food from the drive-through multiple times. In fact while I was there waiting, someone drove all the way back from getting home, because they were missing items and food was made wrong.Listen, I hate leaving bad reviews, I really do.I did an online order for pick up at 5:45PM to be picked up at 6:30. I got there ten minutes early and didn’t want to be that person that bugs them when I’m early, so at 6:30 I made sure they knew I was waiting. Still here 30 minutes later, and finally got my food at 6:53PM and it was missing multiple items. There are multiple employees cleaning, which is great, but like I’m STILL WAITING. 😤I’m not blaming the employees, I’m blaming the owner for not doing better.
Chipotle style - choose whether you want taco, burrito, salad, nachos, then choose the meat, sauce and additional toppings.Slightly pricey for what it is - $14.02 for nachos w/ lime beef and soda, but they did give a lot of chips. (I didnt have guac nor sour cream nor other add-on extras. Taste was just ok. Meat was concentrated near the center - could use slightly more. Chips was somewhat close to being stale but edible still. I think they charged me for the salsa verde but the menu said I get to pick my sauce.Plenty of seating both indoor and outdoor (shaded but some tables needed to be wiped. Overall not terrible, but the flavor was still not there. Quick service. Plenty of parking.
This was my first eating at Cafe Rio and it reminds me of Chipotle. The only exception is Chipotle has more choices in terms of toppings.Flavor-wise the burrito was pretty good. Definitely not the size of a Chipotle burrito.
Filthy, disgusting. The food was horrible, not to temperature. The bathrooms are sickening. The roof was leaking. I will never stop here again. Look at the floors, the tables, the drink area.Im sure the response will be that the manager will be notified and this will be a training opportunity. This place is way past a training opportunity. It needs to be shut down before someone gets sick. There are several reviews about the lack of cleanliness at this restaurant. Why is nothing being done?
Convenient location and excellent parking make this Good place to eat in Cedar City Utah. Good service every time I’m here. Cafe Rio does a great job with their menu and selection. Only suggestion is to do a better job cleaning tables in a timely manner.
Worst Cafe Rio experience I have had. They were rude and the place was dirty, garbage cans full, bathrooms were not clean and no paper towels. After being there for 60 min- multiple people left- tables were not cleaned. Multiple employees walked by the trash, used the bathroom and nothing was done. I usually dont leave this type of comment but, I was not happy with this visit. They were aggressive to anyone not wearing a mask but there sneeze guard looked like it had never been cleaned.
This place honestly was terrible. I placed an online order, said estimated pickup time was 30 min. I got there at the 30 min mark and they informed me the order had not even been printed, let alone made, then told me they would make it right away. I waited another 20 min, came back inside and asked. I was informed again that my order had not been started. While I waited the manager continued to make 6 other orders that when done, just sat on a shelf. At this point I had been there for an hour and they finally started my order. I could have waited in the long line and ordered my food and left in 15 min, clearly I should have done that. There should have been better organization to get the online orders done faster. Not to mention the fact that the place was disgusting looking, nasty floors with trash every where, dirty tables, and just stuff everywhere on their counters. I definitely will not be going back there to say the least.
4-22-21 TEN STARS for today’s visitI got a steak salad and a cheese quesadilla Everything was fresh and tasty, my steak was really good, juicy and delish. Decent size portion. Most importantly the staff was very friendly and professional. Fast service, no wait time. I guess I will have to skip them on weekends.3-21-21 VERY DISAPPOINTED 👎🏻👎🏻Skimpy on steak ! Out of guacamole and tortilla cheese! LOUSY service. It took me 20+ minutes to order even though there were just 3 people in front of me. VERY LOUD music, it’s already hard to communicate with the team members due to masks and those plastic screens they had installed. You have to over-scream the loud music on top that...Just one star cause the ingredients were fresh.01-16-21 ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆One of the best Cafe Rios ! 🤩🤩I come here every other week and always leave satisfied. Kudos to the team members and management. Recommending and will be back👍🏻👍🏻
I love Cafe Rio! The food was delicious! I got the salad as always. Each table is separated to keep the 6ft distance. All employees where wearing masks. A guy was also sanitizing the tables which was great. The trash cans were clean too and not over stuffed. They have signs around that say you have to wear a mask. I didnt see hand sanitizer dispensers around.
The food is salty and without flavor, the start is just for the handmade flour tortillas the service its no more better you order, pay and bring it to your table the tall guy who served the beans, salad on all that is so rude he ask with king of dressing on the salad and mentioned the house dressing I ask what is in there because its my first time here (they advertise here like #1 in the nation but I been traveling a lot and first time that I heard about this restaurant nameso I asked for the dressing and he yelled the ingredients so offended I say am sorry to offend you but its our first time here so he served with bad mood and fast dropped everything on our plates and nobody else was on line behind us but the star is just not only for the service because sometimes the service is bad but they have good food so I mention it on my reviews
This was such a disappointment. We ordered tostadas and some chips and queso. Our food got stuck in the oven while they went to find more lettuce. They were out of sour cream. The queso was thin and soupy with an unusual and bizarre texture. Large sprigs of cilantro were unexpected and challenging to eat around. They were out of water cups, the lobby was out of forks, the girl making tortillas was making some really wonky shapes without care. The drink machine had mountains of ice making it difficult to fill drinks, candy bowl was empty, all of the tables were dirty, the bathrooms were filthy, the trash cans were all full. It wasn’t very busy, but it was overall an unsatisfactory experience.
Food has decent flavor. I was not impressed with food handling as I saw multiple issues with lack of cleanliness. Would like to see them out more effort into bussing the dining area. Clientele was rude. I recommend you go down to the street to Costa Vida.
This has got to be the most horrible Cafe Rio location I have ever eaten at. I love Cafe Rio but this one was disgusting. From entering, to looking in the kitchen, to going into the bathroom, it was filthy. Trash everywhere, not a single clean table. We were here for an hour just hoping to watch one person go clean, but no one did. Then there were employees who would just stand around and not do anything while there were no customers. Management should really consider some additional training for down time of employees and cleanliness of their establishment. Hope that our next visit will be a better one.
