14 Rodney St, Liverpool L1 2TE, United Kingdom, Liverpool
Informal restaurant serving grilled sardines, bacalhau and Portuguese wines, with outside space.
Absolutely authentic, lovely warm atmosphere. Feels like you are in Porto. A must visit restaurant in Liverpool
Lovely place with great portuguese food
We dropped in last night on our way to the Liverpool Philharmonic. We often visit Portugal and wanted to sample the “local’ cuisine. We were not disappointed! The food was fantastic and the service excellent. We have visited many Portuguese and City based restaurants and for value this is certainly one of the better Liverpool based establishments. We will be back soon!
We had a great cosy night drinking Portuguese wine and eating some delicious dishes both with meat and fish in the backyard, surrounded by grapevines. Only wishing portions were larger to further savour the experience!
Cozy and and authentic little restaurant. Family business. Nice little garden on the back. Food is really good and traditional. Owners and waitres really nice and friendly. They have Brazilian live music, we havent been yet but we plan to go.
Disgusting food and not clean at all
Good evening, I would like to inform you that My experience and that of my family with a couple of friends was terrible, terrible service, terrible food, terrible atmosphere, Total lack of respect for customers, they left me our son, we arrived, we made the order, it took more than two hours, if not 2:30 for 21 dishes to be served, the mind had two fish that didnt even measure 5 cm and I dont know I couldnt even think about tasting any tasting it was absurd and then the main course and not to mention that it was completely tasteless and tasteless horrible horrible for you and not to mention that in the main course that we thought was going to be fed up As are Portuguese restaurants there was a crumb of cod with the potatoes that has nothing to do with it is the dish that is made in 10 15 minutes and we it took almost 2:30 unfortunately impossible to say that they are Portuguese restaurant very disorganized Absurdos dish take 2:30 to be made and come the way they came they came cant afford one thing d its crazy to think that we still had to pay for it is absurd because its not worth it even if you have a plane here go to Portugal and eat there because this is definitely the worst place and worst Portuguese restaurant Ive ever seen in my life I dont recommend it to anyone, not even my worst enemy, what an absurdity they do with customers thank you
Hidden gem of a place. Indooe and also lovely garden at rear , with heating.Pre theatre dinnerWonderful genuine Portuguese food and wines. Exceptional service from Mary and Pedro who explained dishes and made recommendations for wines. We had sharing fish platter to start followed by Black pig and clams for our main. All freshly prepared and oh so deliciousWould highly recommend
Very cozy and nice restaurant, The sourdough is very incredible. The octopus is very tender and go very well with red wine. Unfortunately, it is too cold to sit in the hidden beautiful garden.
We visited Cafe Porto for the first time last night and it didnt disappoint. We ordered the fish board and octopus to share. Everything tasted incredible and we could tell it was freshly prepared. Mary and Pedro (ownerswere very welcoming and lovely to chat to. We cant wait to go back!
A unique little place with authentic Portuguese flavour and style. If you enjoy a quirky style then this is for you. Food is tasty and the homemade corn bread is fantastic. Dont go there hungry as the food is cooked fresh and takes a bit to arrive but it is well worth it. Obrigado.
Fantastic family restaurant with freshly prepared high quality food. This place is a little gem tucked away at the back of another food outletwith a quaint garden filled with the owners handmade art.My wife and I went to Cafe Porto in October and had a fantastic meal out in the garden. The owner Pedro and his team prepare all there own food and his wife kindly explained the origin of the dishes to us which was most interesting. There are some fantastic Portuguese dishes to try and delicious puddings. The house wine was also of a very high standard and as with the food, is all chosen carefully by the owners. We hope to come back to Liverpool again and Cafe Porto will most definitely be on the list of places to re-visit.Thank you all for a very pleasant afternoon you made us so welcome.
The best experience I have ever had in a restaurant in Liverpool. This is not a restaurant for a quick feed. You should come with the sole purpose of having a relaxing meal with family and friends. The food was utterly perfect and the service / ambience made me feel immediately welcome, like I was sat in someones home. Will be back again as soon as I can with as many people as possible! Looking forward to having a glass of their lovely Pegoes in the garden - built by the chef Pedro himself!!The perfect restaurant.
Dissapointing experience in town to watch the champions league game we elected this has our restaurant for a meal worst decision ever.We were presented with a feijoada which is a delicious typical plate from Portugal BUT the one that was served to us in paper plates and cutlery didnt even had a slice of chorizo! My feijoada consisted of beans and 8 tiny bits of belly pork plus rice.... I probably wouldnt be writing this review here if it wasnt for the fact this plate alone cost 15£ i would happily pay this price for quality food but what was presented was not quality food!If you are after a true portuguese experience look elsewhere because this is not a place that represents portuguese gastronomy very well!I am sorry to say that I will never be back unless there is some dramatic changes...
Very bad food/service and overpricedA shame for the Portuguese cuisine
Cozy little place. Lovely service and delicious authentic food.We had a great evening and wiill be back.Recommended.
What a gem in the centre of Liverpool! Gorgeous Portuguese food, fabulous service.
Probably the best tapas restaurant in Liverpool, melt in your mouth calamari, amazing sardines and sardine pate, garlic mushrooms and patatas bravas. True authentic food and service and even a romantically lit garden.
Shame I Cant give a 0 starHad a stake while on holiday with family and stake wasnt good.It had a spoilt taste and smell we left it on plate as we were afraid of having a food poisoning.Definitely I dont recommend and will not come back
Very bad experience 😕 wait about 35 minutes for the starters and after they served me a horrible update steak I ordered it médio rare and the texture was green the smell was horrible completely unpalatable they tried to disguise the bad taste with garlic raw on top, in the end they didnt even ask why I hadnt eaten .the restaurant have a disgusting fish smell not very clean.Paid for that horrible experience 134 pounds
Cafe Porto is a real hidden gem. The garden area at the back is such a charming place to eat this truly authentic Portuguese food. Run by two absolute darlings, the service is relaxed (not the place to go if your in a rushand why would you want to rush away from some of the best sangria this side of Spain?10/10 would recommend.
Great food and extraordinary team. You will fell as part of the family.!
This Portuguese restaurant is totally amazing. The owners are so accommodating, nothing was to much trouble. The food was so deliciously tasty. I have not had such a beautiful meal in a restaurant for a long while. The restaurant itself, is like a little piece of Porto. If you are looking for a tranquil and relaxing atmosphere with the most beautiful delicious food, then you should go here
The food was not all fresh as expected but the average one you can find on Tesco (olive, bread, anchovies…).Nice atmosphere!
We have just left this amazing restaurant! Service and atmosphere was wonderful. The food is authentic and deliously Portuguese, a total gem.absolutesgemm
Absolutely amazing the food was great service was fantastic. If you like a spaced out quality meal without the rush of modern service you will love it here. We tried nearly all the menu and will definitely be back x
Unbelievable food, service, and setting. We were on the hunt for some traditional Portuguese/Brazilian food and Café Porto served us well. Both the food and the service were out of this world. The lady waitress was the perfect host throughout and we were even greeted by Pedro, the chef, after the service was over. We will definitely be returning.
Hospitality service second to none. Quality of food fantastic and so authentic. We absolutely loved it and will return
My daughter and I should have been on holiday in Portugal this week but stopped by COVID 19. Thank you to Pedro at Cafe Porto for all the food supplied as a takeaway for my family Portugese evening yesterday. It was all amazing but our favourites were the Arroz de Marisco (seafood rice), Chourico in Red Wine and the portugese tortilla. Thank you also for the personal service and updates. We look forward to visiting cafe Porto to eat in-house very soon.
Aww Pedro , Mary, what a fabulous party for Gill’s 60th! Your food was delicious, everyone very attentive, service with a smile and lovely manner, you went over and above, amazing! Thankyou so much xx Pat and Steve ( Steve the fussy one you did the chicken and chips for!!)
Not nice place to be in , bad atmosphere and the place doesnt even look like restaurant /cafe, quite expensive wouldnt recommend. Should have more traditional Portuguese food
What’s not to like about Cafe Porto? Very authentic (and deliciousPortuguese food, reasonably priced as well. Staff is very friendly, they realized that we were in a bit of a rush so they made our food quicker so we could make it to Anfield on time. Can’t think of many other restaurants that would be this accommodating whilst tasting delicious.
The waiter Rui V. Gave us exceptional knowledge of the food, spent 20 minutes describing the cooking process and what flavours we will be experiencing. Despite his new nose procedure, his Portuguese accent suited his role.
How quirky can you get??? What a find. We had a lovely meal here with attentive staff who ensured that we were served quickly to ensure we made it to the Carol concert on time. Lovely!!
Freshly made food, so tasty. Great staff, really friendly. Cant wait for our next visit.
Nice an friendly top quality portuguese restaurante...beautifull regional portuguese food & wine.Decent prices...just love it
Cute little licenced cafe. We had an evening meal here and really enjoyed the variety of the tapas followed by cheese and biscuits and port.
Lovely little restaurant. Great staff & great food. Bring your own wine!
The place feels like a little secret, its very cozy and the host is great,. Good selection of wines and all the tapas were amazing!
Had a great night. I personally had never tried Portuguese food but now know what Ive been missing. The food was amazing and I will definitely be back for more. Friendly staff. would highly recommend.
Very nice atmosphere.enjoyed the food.the owners/ staff/ chef.are very genuine and take time to get to know what you want.
My friends and myself thought we would try this cafe as it says "a little gem" for our lunch. Why is it a gem. Thought food was bland. My chicken bagette was similar to sayers pound bakery. Few strips of chicken loads of mayo and 1 slice of iceberg lettuce. So side salad or even a crisp. My friend ordered salad. Again suprised atxsuch small portion and it was only lettuce, olive and a few pieces of feta and quiche was again nothing special. It came to £25.00. It was expensive for what we got and how presented. Nothing special at all. Dont bother
Have come here several times over the years. Tasty food, good wine and some of the best cakes youll find in Liverpool. With all the tapas restaurants these days offering wild fusion cuisine of varying quality, its a pleasure to go somewhere with authentic Portuguese dishes and a homely, welcoming atmosphere.
Excellent service, staff is very friendly and polite. Food portions are great, just a little pricey, but overall good experience.
Amazing fresh food. Lovely staff. The portuguese wine is very nice indeed.
Poor overall experienceMost of the tapas weve ordered were bland and tastelessSmall portions and cannot justify priceRestaurant small but decoration okLovely Irish waitress - the only thing good with that placeDefinitely not going back
This was my Fifth visit here and what can I say!! AMAZING!! The food is absolutely fabulous! I have tried most of the Ta-pas on the menu and I can honestly they are all to die for. The Chef and the hosts make you feel so welcome and let you relax whilst you enjoy your meal so much so I didnt want to leave. This is truly one of my favourite places to eat in the city. I would highly recommend.
Amazing Portuguese tapas; the restaurant was very quiet when we went, but the food was incredible and I dont understand why it was so quiet! It is also worth noting that Cafe Porto accept TasteCard!
I had an EXQUISITE fish board special. Meal of the month for me. Good house white as well. Nice quiet atmosphere too, friendly staff who take their time, very pleased I chose this over all the standard type of restaurants on the main road.
Not a review this. Just a correction: we are not closed on a Saturday. How could we?!!!We close on Mondays only. I cant Google to change these wrong times!Pedro Almeida the owner of Cafe Porto
