Cafe Manolin - Puerto Rican restaurant in San Juan, Puerto Rico
Really good food , really good price!
Amazing local food, highly recommend!
Enjoyed it, but be prepared for an overcrowded place. The drinks were ok and the sandwiches are on the thinner side than heftier. Went once, but maybe repeat again. Its good but not amazing.
Very good coffee and nice bites. However pretty expensive. That will keep me away. Sorry. Not for someone who generally has more than one and done coffee shop fix.
Out of the many meals I had throughout my week-long Puerto Rico trip, this place had the BEST food. I’m forever on the hunt for the world’s best Cubano sandwich & tried one here on a whim. It did not disappoint!! Super super good. The mofongo was fantastic as well, best I’ve ever tried. My only regret is that I only ate here one time!
Been looking for good traditional Puerto Rican food fare our whole trip. Went to Deadventura and was sorely disappointed with service and food quality as well as quantity. I was suspicious of any restaurant in Old San Juan after that nightmare, then we found Cafe Manolin. What a GREAT experience! The service was fast and friendly, the food was delicious and portions more than generous! Had a few traditional side dishes and the tab(w/o tipwas under $20! So happy to have found this place and sad we won’t have the ability to come here again as we are leaving in 12 hours! Don’t miss this gem while u are visiting Old San Juan!
I live in California and this place has made me want to uproot my entire life learn how to speak Spanish , move to San Juan and eat here every day it’s open . For me it’s the Tuna sandwich it actually taste like it was made in Heaven I can’t even make this up I ate half and had the other half in my purse 👜 Because it wasn’t getting left behind . Clean - Friendly - tasty food with amazing coffee and a few liquor options and add bunch of cute shops next door this place is a MUST ! Thank you for great service can’t wait to come back God bless you all because you have truly blessed me !!!
Fast service. Our waitress was sweet and brought every salsa to us, while explaining each. Good food! Big enough to share!
Service & coffee were great, I liked the ham, egg & cheese was filling, the bread was great, but the rest of the food was just ok. Prices are extremely reasonable.
Great restaurant with local food selection (comida criolla). Really friendly ambiance and good coffee. It can get very busy but its worth the wait.
Great mofongo but the Tres Leches was expired and sour. The salad was meh
Good place in Old San Juan to get food at reasonable prices. The food is delicious and the employees are pleasant.
We enjoyed the tasty food, friendly staff and service. Kind of iconic for mofongo (I loved my mofongo con polloand margaritas. Small cafe style setting, so need to get there early.
Delicious mufungo with great service. The server even looked at me and asked if I would prefer a salad with mine instead of beans and rice. He was spot on. For my husband he brought him extra beans.
Affordable price, like the decor and vibes of the place. Hostess was gracious and explained the available items on menu. Good was Ok.
Great cup of coffee. Breakfast sandwich was okay.Note that one of the posted menus is for another restaurant. Kids were disappointed that there were no pancakes or waffles, but that is not the fault of the restaurant. Either a user or Google error on associating the menu with the wrong restaurant.
The service is excellent, food is good and affordable, you can’t beat the price, if you want the experience of the authentic Puerto Rican food and culture this is the place in Old San Juan. Highly recommended. It gets crowded at noon by local people so plan accordingly. No reservations needed, first in first served.
Local feeling and flavor. Grab a seat at counter to skip the line if willing to split up party.
The fried chicken breast with beans and rice were great, dont forget about the hot sauce, its flavor with some heat added
Great place for authentic food, the place was recommended by our tour guide and it did not disappoint at all! On Monday they do the pastel which is a sort of lasagne with different layers of meat, cheese, bacon, eggs, and it is served with salad or rice. A little bit heavy but tasty :)
The Cuban sandwich is made how it’s suppose to be made, really good, authentic ingredients. The coffee, really good. Ask for “azucar morena”The staff is really friendly. If I could give it more stars, I would.
i keep going to this place after years, its that good. its always packed yet service is quick.their home made hot sauce its delicious dont forget to try it.
Food is amazing! Highly recommend. Great classic diner vibes
Breakfast spot 🍳🥞🧇☕️☕️☕️in the early morning. Delish delish! Chilling & eating comida with the loco locals. ☺️😊
It gives off diner vibes that offer alcohol. I love diners so it worked well for us. The prices were reasonable. We ate here twice. During my first visit, I had the mofungo with shrimp and my husband had the mofungo with chicken. We both liked it. The prior night we had mofungo at another establishment and so we had something to compare it with. We both felt it wasnt as good as our first time eating it the previous evening. It was still very good though and we both finished our meals. Each came with sides. I chose the rice and beans and tostones which were both delicious. On our next visit, I ordered the King fish and my husband had the whole Red Snapper. My King fish was local and it was the first time I had tried this type of fish. It was in the form of a steak. I chose salad and tostones for my sides. I really enjoyed my meal. I also ordered the Pina colada which was very good but again not the best I have had on the island. My husband loved his meal and ate the entire fish. It is good food at a reasonable price and it has laid back vibes. You know the food is fresh because they turn tables quickly. Very popular place.
Lots of changes from when we last visited about 4 years ago. The food was very good to excellent and now is only acceptable. Maybe Covid protocols or electric problems forced them to now use disposable plates and utensils which makes the place look more like a fast food joint than a long established family restaurant. The people were very good, fast and competent.
This is a great spot for authentic Puerto Rican food. Its usually full of locals during lunch hour and can be very busy, so aim for the off hours. If you want a more casual experience. The menu is pretty complete, but always check the daily specials posted outside each day. They usually have quite a variety and theyre all delicious and reasonably priced. While Spanish is the preferred language, all of the servers that Ive seen speak English as well. Its been open for over 70 years for a reason!
The place is packed during lunch time. Go before or after lunch time. No reservation needed. It’s first come first served. Service was excellent, very helpful, polite and the food is delicious. We had chuleta can can which is fried pork belly with rice and mofungo and fried fresh red snapper with rice. The pork can can is super crispy and juicy. This is a must visit when your in old San Juan.
Diner style place at the heart of Old San Juan. I had two eggs with bacon and toast for less than $4 dollars. Really cheap, good food. I really like this place.
I had a good breakfast and had a few majorca to go. Pretty busy but good customer service.
We stumbled upon Café Mandolin while strolling around Old San Juan looking for a place to have breakfast. What a find! Its a hidden gem and we loved everything about it.We enjoyed freshly squeezed orange juice, the BEST coffee, and delicious authentic ham and cheese sandwiches. The restaurant is deceptively big, with a diner style interior, with lots of space to maintain social distancing. Fast friendly service, super inexpensive, and great value for money. They offer a good selection of dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Unfortunately they close at 4:30pm, too early for us to return for dinner.Definitely worth checking out during a visit to Old San Juan!
Had a nice day at port here in San Juan, walked around town and stopped at Cafe Manolín on the way back to our cruise. We were very lucky it was not busy yet nearing noon, but enjoyed and loved everything! We had a party of 6 but by the time the food came the place was packed! Sharing a few pictures as I avoid pictures of others. Best Mofongo Relleno I’ve ever had, hands down. If you are in the area this place is worth the trip.
Awesome place for breakfast or lunch. The price is reasonable, the location is very centric, and the service is friendly!
Probably the best mofongo I had in Puerto Rico: fried to be tasty and full of all the right textures. The restaurant itself is a cute diner like place but you can take it to go (like I did).
I was inspired to create my own food tour while making a pit stop in San Juan. The Google search did not disappoint as I was looking for authentic Puerto Rican food. This spot was filled with Puerto Ricans but also quickly filled with non-natives.The atmosphere was that of a diner, but my waitress, Angie, was very friendly and made me feel welcomed. I ordered the traditional dish, Mofongo. While it took a while, it was because it was being made from scratch. While I did not care for the dish, it had nothing to do with the preparation. I am not a fan of plantains, but wanted to try a traditional dish. The shrimp that was cooked inside the mofongo was flavorful as well as plentiful, and the rice and beans were delicious.I would return to try another authentic dish.
We were looking for a good Mofongo to round out our trip, and we found it here! Portion sizes were plentiful, prices cheap, and service was fast. Cute little diner style place as well.
Good Food! Great experience. The authenticity was amazing. By far the best food I have had in Puerto Rico. The sauce for the food was also amazing.
The rice and beans were good, but thats a staple here and nobody should mess that up. The fried pork was almost rock hard and very dark, so it was fried in dirty grease. The plantains were good. The Pina colada was, all served in styrofoam.
Prepare to wait, lines out the door for a reason, but you know it’s good when locals come to eat. Not a fancy place, but clean and very service oriented. Needless to say truly worth the wait!
Excellent authentic Puerto Rican cuisine! The shrimp mofongo was out of this world delicious! Highly recommend when you are in Old San Juan
This place lives up to their reputation. I was blown away of their food and the size of portions. We had a quick lunch and I savored every bite because it was so delicious! After a long day of walking Viejo San Juan this place hit the spot and I was so happy that they had a very cold AC to cool me down. I will 100% come back and eat here the next time I’m in PR!
Pretty good café style resteraunt. Nothing fancy but good food. The service was friendly. They do not have wifi. They serve Coca-Cola fountain drinks and they have AC. More like an 80s diner feel.
Can’t say enough great things about this place. I’d come back every time. Nothing fancy but OH SO GOOD. Truly authentic food served without airs and respect. When dining alone that’s always the true test and they sure lived up to it. They had the right amount of attentive with superior food. I tried the beef soup as a starter with the house hot sauce of course. Then had the shrimp mofongo. Everything was spot on. The hot sauce had a bite without being overwhelming. The soup was layered and delightful, all the flavors blended together nicely. Then I followed it with a mongo a traditional Puerto Rican dish, simply delightful. If you want to get the pulse of a location, try this place out. It’s well worth the visit.
Nice Puerto Rican food in Old San Juan. Covid restriction, so it fills to capacity fast. The food is tasty and for an Old San Juan eatery it’s very affordable.
This location was recommend to me by a local as well as several videos before we came. It has a unique U shaped bar seating as well as traditional tables, but the bar makes it fun for larger groups as well as singles and pairs. We were quickly accommodated at the bar for a six person group. Our server was bilingual and very helpful. We came too late for breakfast but luckily on a Friday when their special was Pernil and arroz con gandules. What a wonderful experience. Coffee delicious and we were served quickly. Coffee was not free for refills but worth the second cup. Unfortunately the woman checking us out at the counter was rude, and aggressively took our payment and slammed our recipes without ever looking us in the eye. Strange compared to the very happy and helpful staff otherwise. Regardless of her it was a wonderful experience and I would definitely recommend.
Great old school spot. Its mainly counter service but they do have a few tables. Luis was great...balancing chitchat & letting us enjoy our lunch.Food is reasonably priced. Chicharrones & mofongo was delicious. The Sancocho was like a taste of home cooking.💜Wasnt a fan of the homemade pique (hot sauce(was too thick & not balanced). The trees leches wasnt anything to write home about.Cant wait to go back.
Only good things to say about this place! The food was amazing and the staff helpful. Attached is a pic. I had a t-bone steak with white rice and beans and it was sooooooooooo delicious <3My mom also loved her food. This was my second time eating here, I just had to come back. Their prices are good too. No wait this last time I was there.
LEGIT! This place is legit - there’s a crowd here at any time of the day, mainly locals, which tells you something, but a good mix of tourists as well.We had the Mofongo Relleno de Pollo and the Camarones a la Criolla and both were delicious. The sauces they bring out are amazing as well, especially the green bottle. And don’t forget to try the house-made hot sauce - it’s got some kick but it’s well worth it!A must-visit when in Old San Juan!
Awesome place for lunch. See ton of Locals and tourists alike so you already know its blessed. Some of the waiters dont speak fluent english so getting your order across may become a mission but its well worth it for the food. Homestyle and authentic, Ive never felt more full in my life 😂. Coffee was also something else 🔥. Dont know if its Puertorican or the place itself but it beats my usual cup of Timmies anyday of the week 😁
This restaurant in old San Juan downtown has good food and nice service.. Try the mofongo..smashed plantain..its great with everything. My friend had a great Ceasar Salad with grilled chicken which she said had the best dressing ever. My other friend had chicken soup which was tasty. She was a little put off by all the bones. Nice location in old San Juan...
