Café Hollander - Mequon - Belgian restaurant in West Bend, United States
We live in West Bend and take the 30 min drive to eat here whenever we want a great brunch. You sit down. There’s your waters. Drinks follow quickly. Entrees come with everything you might ask for, (condiments,,napkins, refillsI haven’t had a better experience. My 16 yo only wanted to eat at Hollander for their birthday. They were above and beyond. Can’t wait to take my mom there to choose off their GF menu
Very good brunch style menu items and superior service. I highly recommend as we will definitely be back. Great job all around!
Our granddaughters wedding was here. Food was good. She had appetizers: cheese, shrimp. Also the buffet was great! Meatloaf was delicious and tomato basil pasta was yummy! They also have gluten free. Great time!
Megan was our server and was awesome!!4 of us.All different lunches.Soup & sandwiches- both with tons of flavorBLT& A WrapOmeletAll excellent .
It was a great experience. Marcus was our server and he did a great job keeping our table together and laughing. I will definitely be there again.
Love eating here when I’m in town! My go to is definitely the crispy chicken bowl. It’s similar to a poke bowl(in my opinionand it’s so good! And guilt free if you’re looking for a healthier alternative!Wait time is never too bad, at least when I’ve been there! And the service is awesome! I try to always sit with Sydney(because she gives me extra sauce 🤣and she really pays attention to her customers! Thumps up from me! Hope to be back soon!
We had our dream brunch wedding here on the second floor with 60 of our closest friends and family. The food was fresh and delicious, Molly (the main contact/coordinator for Lowlandswas amazing to work with throughout the months leading up to and including the big day. Matt, Claudia and Marcus took excellent care of our guests throughout our event. The venue is so gorgeous we literally didn’t need to bring any additional decorations. If you’re looking for a unique and reasonably priced wedding (or to host any other important event), we would highly recommend Cafe Hollander in Mequon!
We had the best time at Cafe Hollander. The food was good but the service was what will bring us back! Sydney was so much fun and friendly from the second we sat down. She recommended the yummy breakfast Sammy which was so good and he’d pleasant and upbeat personality made our time enjoyable! We’re definitely going back and requesting this fabulous server! Thank you Sydney!
I was enjoying some brunch with my family and the food was delicious! Sydney was my server and recommended the fried chicken and French toast and I’m glad I took her advice! I will definitely request Sydney next time!
Sydney was amazing. So friendly and welcoming. She went above and beyond to make sure our needs were met. I highly recommend this place and her as a server.
It was a great day and ended well. Our server Marcus was great. He made the whole table laugh and entertained us while we was here. I would definitely come back
Had a very great experience there and our server Sydney gave us such good work on helping us with the menu and drinks. Defined recommending to friends and family. Thank you.
I love coming here for food with friends! The service is always amazing, and the food delicious. Marcus took care of us and was timely, never pushy, and never ignored us. It was a perfect dining experience!
I love your food and atmosphere! Always my go to spot! Especially when Sydney with the really pretty brown eyes is working! She was amazing! Keeps us smiling and happy every-time we go!
Great service!!!! Very attentive, not over bearing. Beet salad was perfect!! Grilled chicken on top was a great add. Bloody Mary was spicy!! Nice menu 😁
First, the flies were unbelievable with there open concept. I had shredded beef & cheese sandwich, which had very little cheese, & even less beef. The lettuce on another sandwich was so limp & not fresh. No one in our party(6where pleased with their lunch. Very pricey. Will not be returning.
This is a fun spirited place with a big attractive interior, solid cocktails, and large beer selection, including IPAs with a Belgian twist. Comfy and low key, good kids menu (and kid’s “cocktail”), friendly service, and excellent salads. Outdoor seating too. Popular joint.
I’ve been a fan of Hollander for years but unfortunately the last two times I’ve been to this location I’ve had to send my food back. The first was a burger cooked beyond recognition about a year ago and the second was just yesterday when their Brussel sprouts were fried to a burnt crisp that tasted of nothing but fryer oil.The staff is always friendly and they have a great selection of beer. I just wish the food could be consistent.
Lovely experience, a tad bit pricey, but soooo worth it! Great waiter very friendly, I ordered a salad that was so fresh and crisp. The grilled chicken was delicious. The grilled cheese with the Bisque it is to die for! Multiple cheeses used and the bread is light and fluffy. Coffee is to die for as well, it goes down so smooth and not to bitter or to sweet. Food arrived in a timely manner and it was a great Dinner!
ordered a $17 salad for pick up and drove 15 min there and 15 min back to work and had no dressing on salad or in the bag. Called and asked for a discounted salad for tomorrow since Im not driving 30 minutes to come get the dressing and she said no. Terrible customer service. Place is over priced and food is mediocre at best. Better to go to St. Pauls fish down the road or one of the many restaurants at the Mequon public market. I wont be back.
i love this place. the food selection is unique and tasty. beers and brews too. and you can learn some important english to german translations in the bathroom! "id like another beer please"
Had a great experience! Ordered the avocado chicken wrap; highly recommend it was delicious. Have to mention our server as well, Nola provided wonderful service. She was so sweet definitely will return soon!
Had lunch here today. The service was great, and the food was wonderful! The only disappointment was that they were out of their Sangria :(
Visiting the area for the first time and it was a must stop! Not only was the food amazing but our server Nola was great! Her fun upbeat personality really helped make this a great experience!
Staff was friendly. Food was.. doused in olive oil, besides that it was alright. My biggest gripe is with the name Hollander this suggests at least something Dutch. To my great surprise really the only Dutch thing offered was 1 Dutch beer. Even the Dutch phrases that are translated to English in the bathrooms arent Dutch, theyre Belgian. Kind of disappointing.
Uhhh Yeah!!! Great spot for brunch! And in such an awesome little area! A little mix-up on our order but our waiter was awesome and was on it asap!!! If you like omelets the farmers omelet is a great choice with some unique ingredients! Cauliflower and Beets!!! SOOOO GOOD! Definitely stop at this place if you are in the area!
One of our favorite places. The beer selection is great. The food is delicious. I recommend going when the garage doors are open. It is such a cool atmosphere.
Had amazing food and better then that the service was impeccable. Kiarra knocked it out of the park with her knowledge of the menu, bright disposition and strong customer care and work ethic. We will definitely be back at one of her tables.
Weve been going to Cafe Hollander for years... Highly recommend! Everything is always really good and flavorful. Our favorites: Sconie Burger, Tomato Basil Pasta, Double Smashed Veggie Burger (substitute regular burger), Bacon Avocado Chicken Wrap.A Must Get: Sweet potato fries with basil aoli sauce... Amazing every time!
Geat food, great service! Good waitstaff and dining establishments are hard to find lately. Marcus was great and on top of things, the food was also amazing. KUDOS to the crew at Cafe Hollander!
Food at Hollander is always delicious. Service was fast and polite. There was even a bridal shower there in a separate room which was cool, didnt know they had that.
A romantic couple getaway weekend looking for somewhere to eat in Mequon over the weekend. We happened to see Cafe’ Hollander next to Colectivo Coffee and thought it would be a unique experience as the exterior was very warm and inviting. The outdoor dining was just inviting, but it was just too hot the day we went there. We went inside and the ambiance was warm and welcoming. We were seated right away. The seats are wicker and they were not comfortable at all. The tables on the other hand were nice and went with the theme of the restaurant. The waitress asked for our drink order and I ordered a Dragonfruit Daiquiri. Upon reading the menu, the cafe’ part was not really a part of the theme f the menu. It is more along the lines of A German eatery. The menu offered in-house made sauces and batters and a lot of local made food items. No fault on the cafe’s end but I am a picky eater and the entire menu offered items that were not to my taste buds. I came to select one of two options that I would eat, one was a wrap and the other was Mac N Cheese. I asked the waitress about what kind of cheese was in the Mac N Cheese and she stated it was a white sauce. Cool, I can eat white sauce so I opted for a bowl of Mac N Cheese. In the meantime the Dragonfruit Daiquiri arrived and was very tasty. It was a little on the sour side but good. The waitress brought our food. My husband ordered a burger with cheese and bacon. It had a homemade sauce which to me was a little spicy, the fries were good and it was topped with a skewer of cheese curds. My Mac N cheese came with tomatoes and I am assuming diced chili peppers, little breading and the sauce was not white, it looked like queso. I gave the toppings to my husband as I don’t like spicy food. I took a bite of the Mac n cheese and it had a kick to it. Again, I can’t eat spicy food hence why I asked what kind of sauce was in the food. I told the waitress that it was too spicy for me and she asked if I had wanted something else. I opted to try the Muenster cheese curds minus the sriracha sauce. The order was huge for cheese curds and they were very good. Upon receiving my bill I was not comped for the Mac n cheese or the Cheese curds. I was hoping the Mac N Cheese would have been comped as the cheese sauce was not as I was told. However I paid for it and did leave a tip. She was a good waitress overall. I give the ambiance of the cafe a 5, location a 5, prices were a bit high so a 4-I own 2 restaurants and know food prices have skyrocketed but some of the items like the Daiquiri was $9.50 which should have only been $7.00, it was a small glass, the wait staff a 5, time to wait is a 5.
I understand the slow, slow, slow service. Staff shortage ... economic woes....ect... but I also want to rate honestly. The chicken wrap was a little bland, but the sweet potato fries were good.Nothing special here for me. I wont be back.Thr waitress was great! Friendly and efficient.
Charlie was our server and he was most excellent. Attentive and on point for our entire duration of our meal. He recommended the meatloaf, and it was indeed one of the best meatloaf’s I’ve ever had. 10/10
Being in the service industry I normally never leave a bad review. But today was an exception. We sat down, and nobody ever came and checked on us. I told myself to be patient maybe they’re busy (they clearly were not I saw multiple servers standing around chatting). I gave it about 15 minutes and we got up and left. I was going to politely let them know why we were heading out but instead the same girl that sat us said bye like she had no remembrance of seating us a short time ago. Needless to say we won’t be back.
Great for parties, dates, or small groups. Ample food selection that seems to always be updating with new menu options. Love the variety and unique theme of this place.I find that their beverages are extremely expensive for only partial pours (~$8 for 10oz import beer), so I often pass on these when dining. Food is outstanding and provides plenty of flavor however.
The mimosas weren’t flavorful at all like i had hoped. The frites and various sauces were yummy. The jambalaya. Very bold flavors but not flavorful. Like having the bold flavors of chili but no salt to bring them out if you get me. Some seasonings were very strong but it was not good. I sent it back. The Smokie Burger I think. It was brought to replace my jambalaya. It was good at first bite. Before the second bite i noticed a hair. ☹️So i had a second mimosa and no food besides my frites.
Very great experience from the bartenders Madeline and Monica. Management treated me so well thank you to Dakota Liz and Emily. Also had great conversations with Marcus and Kylie everyone was so friendly! I felt right at home!
Great food and atmosphere is great! Many craft beers available too!
Their Hot Chai Latte puts coffee shops to shame!!! Its absolutely amazing. Step aside collectivo next door because this place makes yours look like water. The Sconnie Burger was AMAZING. So oey goey cheesy yummy. Lol. This place is awesome. Get there during off hours tho or I can see parking being really tricky. A+ service too.
I had the blackened Salmon which was easily the best fish Ive had in my life, everything on my plate was delicious and Ill surely be coming back again for more.
It ok. So, we asked if this is a full glass, we let the foam/head settle. When we asked we were told that is the pour. Or if all they did would have been to add one once, the customer would be happy. The menu was ok. The brownie dessert was delicious.
Had the Brussel sprouts and they were very good. My son thought they tasted very charred more than what he would like. If you have picky eaters, or scared to eat Brussel sprouts, this would be the place to try. I also had a chicken chop salad. The chicken was of good quality, and the portions were large and shareable. My son had the chicken bowl and the chicken was tough to cut through but good taste. We were both satisfied and left full with lots of leftovers.
What a wonderful place to go eat, I wish I had taken more pictures. This is one of the nicest places I’ve gone to that has an industrial and rustic theme. They have an upstairs that overlooks the intersection outside which I really enjoyed for all the natural light that comes in through the windows. I simply wish they had more locations in Illinois, this could be a great chain to overtake the Midwest
A very nice interior layout with lots of natural sunlight to illuminate the place. The décor is creative and well maintained. Great atmosphere, very welcoming, clean, everything on their menu that I have had was amazing, and the service does not disappoint! Was seated upon entering with a pleasant staff. I will be retuning, keep up the good work!
The Berry Basil French Toast was awesome 👏. The cappuccino was good too. Cafe Hollanders always have high quality food in cool buildings, and this one is no exception.
In town forna graduation and ran up on a very nice place to gather for food.Menu is very strong, they have a solid amount of options, and everyone was pleased with their order.Venu looks like it could hold the entire town. Festive, inviting, service was A1. Has some cool euro history and nostalgia to it, and the restaurant gives back to the community. Would love to check out the place on a summer night. I can imagine all the balcony space fills up quickly.
Seated immediately. Water brought when beverage order taken and served in minutes. I ordered a cheeseburger medium with lettuce and tomatoes and sweet potato fries. The fries were meaty and tasty, not over cooked, probably the BEST Ive ever had. I could not stop eating them. The thick burger was exactly as ordered and the seasoning made it ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS. It was too much to finish, so I ate the other half cold with chips for dinner! Its about an hours drive from home, but sometimes I just have to have a burger!! I like them thick and pink. Coke products are available and my beverage was refilled. There are tons of beverage choices, but it was early in the day, a long drive home through the scenic Kettle Moraine, more driving, followed by forms to complete at work. Ill explore drinks during a follow-up visit!!Plenty of parking. Comfortable atmosphere. Patio seating available. The bar and surrounding tables were filled as I left. Reasonably priced. Friendly, attentive, professional employees! I was well served!
European lowlands themed bar/restaurant. Very large selection of Belgian and American craft beers. Smallish menu with few non-beef or pork options. The few that there are are delicious.
We’ve been here before so of course we would go back. It was just that good. Open air restaurant with inside and outside dining. Never disappointed. Great service, food, clean environment and a just a pleasant experience all around. Many families here too. Very affordable prices and an excellent wine and beer selection. A Lone Birch Riesling (floral, peach and pearand a hot cocoa with whip completed our brunch. We’ll be back.
