Café Gourmand - Restaurant in Montevideo, Uruguay
Best brunch in the city we have found so far.It is really good and the energy is high and we had a great service.A fun thing is that most of those working there greet you when you enter :-But you will leave in a better mood than you come in.
We loved our brunch here, and loved the complete menu which got us each two drinks, a main egg dish, bread, fruit, and a pastry. The service was lovely, and we thoroughly enjoyed our meal.
Love u guys
Great experience! :)
Great cafe! Ten percent discount, if you pay with cash. Super reasonable prices. The regular latte, and the dulce de leche one are fantastic. One of the best cinnamon rolls I’ve tried in Montevideo, and the chocolate croissant is also great. They take reservations because they can get pretty busy.
Amazing brunch, great service, coziest ambience. Loved it!
I needed coffee! I ran out and did some research and found Erica and Gregoire and their great cafe!!Erica was a great help, although closed in these tough times they arranged to deliver coffee beans, croissants, cinnamon rolls and carrot cake the next day exactly on time.Reviews of the baking: WOW!! The croissants are superb both crispy Southside and soft and buttery. The cinnamon rolls were sweet with just the right amount of cinnamon and great icing. The carrot cake was really special moist and sour cream iced. Everything was world class!Yet to try the coffee but I have a great feeling... more later. In the meantime I am delighted with the product and the people altho my blood sugar is a bit elevated it was worth it. Gregoire is a master Baker for sure.UPDATE: I have become a regular now at the Cafe Gourmand, either Saturday or Sunday will find my outdoors at a table enjoying a perfect omelette ( I hate eggs but Greg s Montevideo omelette cannot be improved uponfresh, tasty, a perfect bernaise and coffee or ice tea. A brunch with punch if you add a mimosa! The staff are all young, friendly and helpful and I also leave smiling: what more could you ask for every weekend!
I’ve always thought Uruguay falters in Brunch experiences. That’s until today that I discovered Cafe Gourmand - the best place in Uruguay to eat a wholesome good quality brunch.
As gastro on brunch and light lunch or breakfast as it can get. Amazing personnel and lovely simple space in a nice neighbourhood. Prices correct for the experience you get. Flavours simply exactly as you would expect them to be (and thats a big complimentand sometimes even better. Macaron could be a bit crunchier but ok you are not with a Parisian maitre des macarons. Overall bravo to the team 👏 keep it up! Shame that you have so lovely origin coffees and I couldnt taste them because of how busy you guys were! 😉 Advice: come early in the morning when its quieter and they ll have the V60 ready for you
Came here after reading the rave reviews and can say this place lives up to the hype. The food is great, the servers are very friendly, there’s plenty of options both salty and sweet, and it’s one of the only places open for brunch on a Sunday morning! Would recommend visiting if you ever find yourself in Montevideo.
We came here again and we are never disappointed. The huevo Benedict are delicious and the brunch is a perfect experience.
This restaurant is one of the great secret little cafés in Montevideo. Run by a husband (a legitimate French Chefand wife (a Montana, U.S.A. native), they decided they needed a life change, had Friends living in Uruguay, and made the move 11 years ago. They bake their own bread (Yummy), and craft their own unique lunch type menu. Try their home cured Salmon (Lox Typeand Avocado sandwich, and a carafe of Ginger Lemonade, theyre just heavenly. They are only open Saturdays and Sundays, are always full, so please make an appointment. Enjoy?
Good vibes
Café Gourmand is the best place for brunch that I have been to in Montevideo. It is small and unassuming - you could easily walk past it several times and not know youd missed it. The streetfront sign is tiny, so keep an eye out! There are a few tables on the street, Parisian style, although the street frontage is, to be honest, not particularly scenic. Also, there are a few tables across the street. Inside, there are another 7-8 tables, so if you are going in a large group, I suggest calling ahead. What sets the restaurant apart is undoubtedly the food, which is absolutely excellent! I had the brunch menu (650 pesos), which comes with fresh bread, eggs Benedict, a pastry and yoghurt or fruit sald, plus coffee or tea and a cold drink (I had fresh-squeezed orange juice). I ordered my eggs with gravlax, which was homemade and, frankly, superlative. The tomatoes were full of flavor (I have no idea where they are from, but they were delicious). However, what makes eggs Benedict is the hollandaise, which was pretty close to perfect in my experience. Nicely flavored and perfect consistency. The croissant I had was flaky and authentic - something hard to find in town. Coffee is roasted fresh on premises. Everything is excellent! Finally, the staff deserves special mention. Without question, they are the friendliest waitresses in town! Service is outstanding and friendly.

Superior food & service in congenial atmosphere. EggsBenedict with their gravlax, the fruit salad, everything is a notch above. Terecia and Amelia are super servers.

Literally the best meal I’ve had in South America!
Amazing salad and staff.
My favorite breakfast in Montevideo! Everything was quality, reasonably priced, and delicious! I tried to speak Spanish, but their English was very helpful! They also have an English menu (the first I’ve seen in Uruguaywhich was nice. The owner and staff were friendly and fast, but not rushing me. I ordered a cappuccino, orange juice, and almond croissant and all were amazing! Highly recommend!
Delicious food, good coffee and friendly service. Some English spoken which was helpful 😃

Excellent caffe and croissants!
The brunch was fantastic! The courses were paced to our needs. We had the mimosas with the eggs benedict. I would fly to Montevideo again for this breakfast.
Nice staff. Busy and a bit disorganized re. brunch v lunch on weekdays. Excellent food, pricey though. Give it a try!!!
Amazing service and good food. We were two weary travelers looking for a hot meal and this place delivered above and beyond. Staff are extremely friendly (offered to hold our bags behind the bar). Bread + main course + drink + dessert + coffee was 500 pesos before tip. Thats around 15 USD or just over 13 EUR (at the time of writing this). 10/10 would come again.
Awesome Saturday brunch!
If you are looking for a good brunch, this is your place. The food is amazing and the service is wonderful!! The eggs Benedict with avocado and pancetta is a wonderful option. They have a different menu each day!
