The owner genuinly looks happy when you come back every time - not just for the cash. Love the atmosphere of the bar and his company! Definitely one of my favourite bars.

Great Amsterdam classic bar. A place for conversations with friends or strangers.

This place is a hidden gem in Amsterdam and should stay like that.I found it from thorough online searching and it was beyond my expectations.I ordered the steak and it was a great portion with fries and salad. Do try it!The vibe is so cozy and it has a charm I cant explain. Very romantic.The person who served us was taking care of the bar and the service. He is one of the sweetest people in Amsterdam and did his best to give us a great first experience at their bar.I would definitely come again!

Traditional "brown cafe", good choice of beers. Russian Imperial Stout is just great. I liked the music.

A friend of mine recommend Cafe De Gaeper and my first impression was outstanding. There bartender/owner Dennis was a terrific person, not only was he personable but was very knowledgeable about the food and drink, which is excellent by the way, but he is also knowledgeable of the areas history. I would highly recommend coming here for anyone that is looking for a quaint little restaurant in a really great party of town.

a place where the locals go. it has a warm and friendly atmosphere. Dutch drinks are served. Bartender conversation is fine. If you are looking for a quiet place to escape from the crowd of the center, this is a good choice.

I went to this bar early a morning because i could not sleep because of toothache, the lady there was wery understandable because of my pain and she gave me two of her own pills and a glass of water to swallow it :deffinetly going back there :)

A very small bar that always manages to fit in a big and diverse crowd. Locals, students, politicians and tourists, everyone will get a warm welcome from Dennis and his staff.

Coming here early evening after a long day ofexploring Amsterdam is a must, the pints are refreshing. The atmosphere is cosy and wasnt too busy.

Very pleasant place that is not packed with tourists (at least when I visited for late luncheven though its in the city center. Ive had great meal and service was the best Ive had during my ten days visit to Netherlands.Edit: I forgot to mention, also great draft beer selection.

Friendly and excellent beers

This was an amazing place, we came with a large group and they handle everything very well. I ordered the burger and it was one of the best burgers Ive had in a long time!

Lovely bar and great butterballen. They dont accept credit cards though, so bring cash.

Fantastic little bar/eatery, food was of great quality and reasonably priced! Barman/manager/maybe the owner was super friendly and welcoming. Very clean and cosy atmosphere, I very much reccomend and will return when back in Amsterdam.

After a long day doing Amsterdam things, my friend and I stumbled in here in a lost and shameless manner few Americans can achieve. Almost without saying a word, the bartender instantly showed us how close we were to our hostel with an unparalleled kindness. Soon, locals flooded in with great spirits (no doubt because of the great spirits being served). The service was incredible, atmosphere unlike I will ever experience again and the music was so good I had to ask for the playlist. A must visit for anyone in Amsterdam!

Dennis the barman is an absolute legend. Great food, went here with my gf on a weekend trip. Highly recommended to get away from mad tourist hype of central Amsterdam.

What can I say, I made it a point to return to this fantastic cafe and enjoy the warm welcoming hospitality that I was delighted to have after my first visit. I met the owner Dennis who was tending bar and he couldnt have been a more engaging, friendly host if he tried, it was a real pleasure. Also was lucky enough to enjoy a few rounds and some lively conversation with a few of the locals and Matthias who I met the first time I visited the bar. Great atmosphere, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT, EXCELLENT beer selection, tasty bar snacks....yeah I have made this terrific bar a must each and every time I visit Amsterdam. Cheers!

Amazing bar and a gem of the city. Dennis, the owner, made my wife and I welcome during a visit and when I returned several years later I was treated with similar kindness by Mathias. It extends beyond the good pub food and quick drinks, to the atmosphere hes built. Great staff that are engaging and fun to hang with. Their warm approach is reflected in the clientele that visit, many of which are quick to strike up a conversation and share a story over a pint. Its the kind of place you want to share with everyone. I will definitely return ...
