California-style Mexican food is the focus of this chill cafe with margaritas & housemade desserts.
The service is good very nice staff I dont like their food but each person is different you might like the food
I do not see why people give hi remarks I have had taco bell taste better and they are over priced decor is nice e and looked like a clean place but food was not great and you do t get full off of $17.50 have never been in a Mexican place that did not have faith as or a chulupa
Food was very good. Not great. Service was excellent as was the homemade quacamole and salsa. Would go back again.
We ate there this afternoon & enjoyed everything! Great food & super nice staff!I had the Shrimp Mango meal.. hand made mini tacos stuffed with avocado, shrimp & mango sauce! Was most flavorful & large portions of rice & beans! Will eat there again... 5 stars from me!
One of my favorite places to eat, whether youre with your family, friends or out on a date night! Im always treated as the customer (may I help you, can I get you anything else, can I top off your drinks...and will this be on one or two tabs 😉 😄...well...thats a part of good customer service too! The staff are wonderful, no one has a attitude (we get that alot these days in food venues); everyone is pleasantly & naturally smiling! I know its rare...but drop in and check it out for yourself! And the FOOD & drinks....ummmm ummm GOOD!!! Dat is All 🙂
Their giant sign on 231 looks yummy 😋. Mmmm. Nom nom. So, no kidding, there we were, hungry from shopping for flooring and BAM .. that delicious sign caught our attention. Our car lead us to the dimly lit cafe on the corner of 231 and .. well.. somewhere over there. FYI: They need kitchen help. 😏 My friend, her mother and I sat down anticipating the best darn California Mexican cuisine this side of .. umm .. CALIFORNIA. Our tea was .. what was that. Anyway, our chips and salsa was straight out of the can… add 1 piece of cilantro and a piece of green onion.. that’ll fool us. 🥸. We all ordered the corn chowder because it’s so good (per the waitress). Ahhh.. Corn Chowder.. so yummy and scrumptious. Could not wait to try it because surely the salsa was a mistake. Ugggg. Our chowder came out with Boss Baby’s piece of a bread crumb tapered around the edge of the bowl. That bowl that had white gravyesk cheesyish corn starched chowder with about 5 pieces of corn thrown in. Where’s the salt? Good grief .. Then our waitress asked how we liked it. Well, I kept looking at my friend as I slid my bowl ever so gently to her. Silence. No comment. I’m still stuck on that salsa and the fact of them not being able to bring us anymore of the bread 🥖.. It was a mere 2 inches. They said they only had enough for the others that ordered that bowl of .. gravy starch with a touch of corn 🌽 Eeeeekkk.. No bread. I’m never going back again. I’m deterred. I’ll take the long wait any day over that. Hey, I’m just not that into you. You overpriced bowl of 👀??????? What was that. Sorry not sorry. 🌽🥖😏🙄🍅
Delicious food and great atmosphere!
Love the Mango Shrimp! Available as an appetizer or a salad. Wonderful guacamole.
Oh my goodness! So good!! I had the Mahi tacos with lime and cilantro rice and my daughter had a chicken burrito. The freshly made flour tortillas were amazing and the burrito was so big it filled the plate! We will definitely be going back!
The service was impeccable, the food was fresh and delicious. I was so impressed by the team work of the employees and the way they took care of the customers. I’ll definitely be going back!
The food is so fresh; the staff is very friendly & attentive.
Tastes fresh and satisfies our craving every single time!! Delicious guacamole!!
We went here on a Saturday night about a week ago. We were going to go to La Parilla, however, there was an hour wait. We decided that this would be the ideal time to try the Cactus Flower as we had been eyeing it for some time. We pulled up and the parking lot was fairly empty. We wondered if this was a sign. It was. Speaking of signs, there was one in the window stating that they were looking for help. They definitely needed it. We were seated in a booth. But not before having to wait for the family in the booth behind us to have their 10(ishy/o child pack up nearly all of his belongings to open the booth up for us. We then waited for a while for the waitress to come. We made our order of Soda Waters for our family of 4 and also requested queso. Eventually our drinks came as well as chips and salsa. She came back and took our food orders. I finally realized that they had forgotten the queso. However, our waitress never came back. Our food finally came out. It was delivered by a man that did not seat us and was not our female waitress. I explained that I believed our queso had been forgotten and also asked if they had a super spicy hot sauce. He said he would check and let me know. I then asked that he just bring the spiciest that he had. He agreed that he would. The female waitress finally came back with a bowl of queso and profusely apologized. She offered to make it free. We declined. We were just happy to have it. Until we tasted it. Well, not really tasted--there WAS no taste. It was weirdly flavorless. It also had a curious consistency. Almost like it was mixed from powder and water. Regardless it was NOT GOOD. The bright spot is that the food was generally pretty good. However, sadly, this was not enough to warrant a return visit. At the end of the meal, the host/waiter that seated us came and took some plates. They asked if we wanted a bowl to take the full queso home in. We declined. They could keep that. SMH. I explained that the hot sauce I had requested never did come out. He proceeded to ignore me and tell my wife that the tomatillo they brought her set his mouth on fire because it was so spicy. (It really wasntSo, he deflected my comment and then made it about him and their NON-SPICY tomatillo. To top it off, the ticket came and it was 62.70. I had Mahi Tacos, my wife had 3 steak tacos and the girls had chicken tenders and a chicken quesadilla with fries. Coupled with the SODA WATERS (non-alcoholicI was shocked. Bottom line here, after a much- smaller-than-our-usual-percentage-due-to-the-service tip, I paid 72.00 to be unhappy. Think about that: I PAID someone 72.00 to make me unhappy. Think twice about coming here.
Another GREAT meal at this fresh Cali-style restaurant. Everything tried during past meals was tasty...beef torta, tortilla soup, huevos Ranchero, red chili, posole. Cant go wrong!
First of all, the ambience in cactus flower is amazing! Feels so authentic!I had their Wednesday tamale special and it was so delicious.
Food was great, service was perfect! Try the Mango Shrimp!
Great food, just not Mexican food. I was very excited, being from Tucson and seeing the name, but after trying the fish tacos and the chichanga, I was confused. The chimi was fried to taste like a croissant, folded like a crunch wrap supreme from taco bell and loaded with the best cheese Ive had in a while. It just felt too asian and European. It was delicious, just not Mexican. Hopefully someone who loves Mexican food reads this so they can try it and we can talk about it.
The food was very fresh and delicious. The atmosphere was very relaxing and you could actually hold a conversation. The staff is superb, very friendly and personable (not easy to find now days). Pricing was very reasonable and affordable. I look forward to returning soon.
Very good California Style Mexican cuisine. Quick friendly service. A little pricey but lots of food for the price.
Great food and service! Good prices. The Mexican Salad was the BEST salad Ive ever had! Could eat it EVERYDAY!
The place was very clean and the staff was extremely friendly! The food tasted clean and fresh and my server Richard had a great recommendation on the Southern California Burrito...delicious. Will be back.
Delicious food. Very good service. Very nice people. Highly recommended for that tex/mex, Cali/mex style craving. Love the fountain in the middle of the restaurant..As a side note, if you want real AUTHENTIC Mexican food, go to El Torito, which is a few miles away
I absolutely love their food 😍
"California Style" is a straight up lie. You can barely call it real Mexican cuisine. The salsa was water and tomatoes. The burrito had no cheese and Indian basmati rice (not what Cali burritos use). The tacos overly used lemon the refried beans were straight out of a can. The side of rice was extremely undercooked if not raw. Noone in Cali serves a burrito with a chunk yes a CHUNK of tomatoes with some lettuce and parietal cheese. This is bogus most likely not returning because the menu and the basics of Mexican cuisine was sadly skipped as someone from a Mexican household in Cali this was a disgrace. Hopefully the owner reads this and corrects the menu to use ACTUAL Mexican food
Best tacos Ive had, honestly. :)
Worst Mexican eatery I have ever been to. The queso was gritty, the rice was old. My corn tortillas weren’t even cooked for my fish tacos. My Long Island tasted like soda. In my opinion I would suggest to go to any other Dothan Mexican restaurant. We will not be revisiting this place. Thumbs down
Food wasnt bad and was fairly priced, but was subpar at best. Bagged cabbage and lettuce, underseasoned and overcooked entrees. The side dishes were most likely rewarmed in the mircowave. Protein portion in the fish tacos was under 2oz per taco. Wilted lettuce and browning avocado did nothing to help the presentation. Service was OK.
Service was slow, didnt even bring drink order quickly though we were the only table in the place at the time. Waitress did not clear small table of dishes so we were crowded. Another table came in and one of them slipped and fell on a puddle in the restaurant. The cheese dip was gross, just like the last time I came here. Second time was another mistake. Food tasted pretty good otherwise so two stars for that.
The food was slightly above room temperature so it’s hard for me to give a great review even though I wish I could. We didn’t have to wait long to be served so that shouldn’t have attributed to food temperature. Appeared to be about six tables occupied but only one server. Salsa was tomato centered verses say cilantro with no spicy heat (jalapeñoand the food was quite salty. Place has possibilities but...
Hidden gem in Dothan Alabama. My first time here and I am very impressed. The atmosphere is elegant, the menu items are fresh and hand prepared in the restaurant. Prices are very fair for the quality. Service is definitely a 5 star worthy review. Rita is my server and she went above and beyond. I will be returning on my next trip to Dothan.
California style, the fish tacos are the best I ha e ever had. This is the only restaurant that offers black bean and they are the full of flavor.Ive never had a bad meal and the best service.
It would be 5 but currently theyre a tad understaffed, but despite a slightly longer wait time, the food was delicious. The salsa was definitely made in house which is a good thing. Also, dont expect normal queso I believe its made in house because it had more of a soupy taste and consistency.
Everything was exceptional! The environment, food, drinks (they have amazing margaritas), and service was all great :)
Execellent food and great atmosphere. This is a true gem of the Wiregrass area! Fresh ingredients, great recipes and a great alternative to the standsrd mexican food. This place is a must try, I promise you wont be disappointed!!
So dont go here if you are looking for the run of the mill mexican. They offer something just a little different. Variety of choices with each plate (black beans/mashed pinto, cilantro/Spanish rice, etc.)Guacamole was excellent and the fish tacos were good. The daily special we selected as well as the queso was just not our cup of tea so thats why we went with the 3 stars. That being said the staff is amazing. Friendly and attentive.
Pinto beans were excellent, the rest of the meal was alright but somewhat bland.
When they say California style Mexican food, I feel like they really captured the whole ideal. The portions were very large and the entrée came out looking like something from a commercial. The service was great and the food came quick. Overall, a really great place to eat on any occasion!
Visited at lunchtime. You have to try the guacamole, it is fantastic. I had the combo, which includes a quesadilla, soup and salad. Husband had burrito and it was a huge portion. Total cost was around $34, which to us is expensive for lunch, but it is very filling without leaving you miserably full. I will definitely eat here again and will try to go for dinner next time for an expanded menu. Friendly staff made the experience welcoming.
The food is good and the portions are large. The wait staff was pleasant and its a very clean facility. The quasi jazz music playing was weird in a Mexican restaurant. It drove me nuts. It was kinda expensive. Ive lived and eaten all over the US and especially Texas, Arizona, and New Mexico. This was the most expensive Ive ever had.
Great atmosphere and even better food! Our waiter, Byron, was amazing and very helpful. You get the standard chips and salsa at the table. The sweet tea was a bit too sweet for me but was given a cup of unsweetened mix with no issues. Both the chili and chicken Posole soups were delicious.I had the special that came with choice of rice and beans. My friend had the Mexican salad with choice of dressing. We were both very satisfied with our meals and too full for dessert.
I went for lunch, great meal and atmosphere, staff was friendly and food was fast and really good! I didnt care for the rice (I dont like most rice though), but everything else was very good. I would definitely recommend!
Chille Rellano is worth the price of admission. In fact, everything Ive had from their menu has been delicious and fresh.
This is my first experience here and wasnt quite sure what to expect but the minute I walked through the door I realized this is a very nice and formal; even romantic dining. We were greeted with a nice smile and friendly service. Already Im impressed and havent hardly gotten seated yet. I started with Guacamole Salad and went with the Mahi Mahi fish tacos with the black beans and the lime cilantro rice to round off my meal.I am so glad I decided to give this place a try as the food here along with the presentation of my meal was quite impressive and delicious.I highly recommend giving this place a try.
They had excellent food was delicious loved the chelle relleno
Food is always soo good ! People there are extremely nice ! And the Margaritas .....they always taste amazing !
This Mexican restaurant offers something better than so so many others. The flavors are a little different, the precision of execution is better and the presentation a little fancier than the typical Mexican experience.
Food was good (everything is made to order, so it is very freshbut the service was very slow. Only giving 3 stars because of the service. We even saw a couple leave because they couldn’t be waited on.
One of our favorite places in this area & to both eat-in & carry-out.-Nice eat-in atmosphere. Not Crowded & Not Loud! Clean & Good Service.- It seemed really nice the first few years it opened, with proprietor(soften visiting tables.- Lately we’ve noticed a little less “of those special touches & consistency”- We haven’t seen management, in awhile. And, our orders occasionally are either missing an ingredient or include an extra ingredient (sauce, chives). And, chips can occasionally taste stale or be greasy.Overall, the food is very good, we just hope they will keep the high quality standards they started out with!
Really great food, probably the best in Dothan from a fresh ingredients standpoint. The Southern California Burrito is a must as is the Chimichanga. Service can at times be slow but everyone is friendly and very helpful.
My wife and I took a chance on a lunch date, at first glance we thought that the menu was pricey, but while waiting only a minute for our waiter, we commented on how nice the low lighting and jazz music was. My wife ordered the tacos and I ordered the torte sandwich with the tortilla soup. Oh my goodness! We tasted each others food, and it was AMAZING! homemade for sure! The soup is to die for! We will Definitely be back! Such a great surprise, as we are often disappointed in restaurants these days. Well worth the trip. We will be returning for a dinner date soon!
