Id honestly rate it 6 if I could. Went here for a special meal and it definitely did not disappoint. The staff are so friendly and knowledgeable and the food was truly fantastic. The menu is a tasting menu with cocktails to match each dish. The chef explained every single dish to us and their mission to avoid food waste is admirable. Truly loved it ♥️

Amazing restaurant. I have been there three times and it has consistently been great. They only have a tasting menu so no need to make decisions and the portions are a perfect size to make you feel full but not uncomfortable. The drinks pairings are also great as they do a mixture of cocktails and wine. I would highly recommend

Many exciting things are happening behind this inconspicuous entrance... Small plates and complimenting cocktails were a delight from start to finish, and all the better for its sustainability efforts. Thanks to the service for taking great care at explaining and answering all questions. Must come again!

Menu is only fixed. The drinks & food pairing is quite creative and tasty, but I was actually still quite hungry after paying a price of £67. I would recommend making dishes bigger specially broth and stews which are actually quite unexpensive to make. Other than that, very nice environment and staff that explain the dishes and drinks.

There was good foods and great selection of drinks which was matching with food, but felt it was missing something important...I am not vegan nor vegetarian so with no fish or meet as a main, the tasting course was not entirely satisfactory. If the main food was a piece of pumpkin, I wanted to have at least 2 pieces! It was a great experience but can not feel to return there as such a small portion of foods cost £76 include service charge plus donation was not really amazing in the end.

It is good, especially the very creative pumpkin dish but this restaurant does not decide what it is about. Is it vegan or is it not, is it environmental food or is it about minimizing waste or maximizing local produce? What is the vision of the chef, who is the chef? I wish they would tell the story better and make more bold decisions. The staff seemed hesitant and timid, they expected us to know. You cant be so quiet and expect to be heard. Either you are humble or you are loud but this place seem to sit in the middle. We also thought that quantity of food was simply not enough so had bread with our cheese to be full. At more than £80 per person, this shouldnt happen.

A fantastic experience on all levels - amazing food and drinks - all bursting with flavour, and a delight to eat and experience. But its not just the final dishes and drinks that sets CUB apart from the vast majority of restaurants in London, its also the fact that they aim to produce zero food waste, source things locally where possible, use seasonal fruit and veg, and offer sustainably produced beers and wines - sustainability is something they really care about, and major elements of the decor are made from recycled materials...on top of all that he staff were fantastic - very professional and friendly, and took time to share the story behind each of the dishes and their ingredients. I really wish there were more restaurants like CUB!

Inventive, concept led contemporary sustainable joint. Staff is cool and passionate. Set menu combining high end drinks and small dishes is a good deal for London (£67/person).Its a very good experience to broaden creativety and palate. However, we felt the dishes could be more complex and less sutil in flavor.Nonetheless, its a very unique experience and worth a visit.

Lovely hipster, everything-local type place with cosy booths for pairs or groups. Very down-to-earth but personalised service - they plied us with complementary olive oil cake at the end of service which was hearty, delicious.

The food is absolutely amazing in this restaurant. My only disappointment was the seating. My sister-in-law had booked this restaurant from Australia and wrote to the restaurant it was our 10 years anniversary gift from them. Arriving at the restaurant they put us in the bar area on the most uncomfortable chairs ever. I was really upset as I thought they would be more considerate at this was our 10 years anniversary and we want to be sat in private and not in front of the traffic behind the kitchen. When I did explain the situation he seems to understand but not much he could do about it at the time. They did give us as a discount on the bill. It would be really nice if they were little bit more considerate when it comes to people writing requests in the bookings.

High quality restaurant in a tiny space in Hoxton. Inventive dishes, made using everything to minimize waste- apparently they dont have a bin in the kitchen because they make use of every last scrap.Toilets are funny thanks to the crude drawings of reproductive parts for men and women - toilet humour, quiet literally.Shows that even though they do elegant and sophisticated food with complex flavours, they dont take themselves too seriously.Zero pretentiousness, great restaurant.

Absolutely incredible experience again! My fiancé and I came here in January and were blown away by the personable service, great atmosphere, and incredible food and drinks. We loved it so much that when my family was visiting from the US we built our London trip itinerary around visiting CUB. Needless to say we had high expectations coming back, and again were completely blown away by the quality of food and service. Wait staff were very knowledgeable and professional, but also incredibly personable. We felt like we were in the company of friends. What can we say about the food and drinks other than absolutely amazing. You really can’t compare the set menu to anything else out there. We have dined all over the world, at Michelin star restaurants and restaurants in the worlds top 50 that you see on Chefs Table. Reflecting on our experience for the quality, value, story telling, and service, this has been the best meal of our life. Were also super fortunate to have met Mr. Lyan himself while we were there. Thank you CUB so much for the amazing experience. You made our London trip one of the best family vacations we have ever had.

I dont have enough words to praise this amazing place, evrything was perfect from start to end. The Broccoli starter, the artichoke hay smoke broth were my favorite dishes of the menu I really wish if Mr. Lyan would let me enter his kitchen so that I could learn how to cook all these amazing dishes. The cocktails were all awesome and not only complemented the food but enhanced the entire experience. Will definitely go here again, its my new favorite veg place in London 😊

Amazing restaurant with attentive staff. The food here is great...the menu changes weekly. Beautiful food and drink pairings. Really interesting flavours and textures and its all as sustainable as possible (think using items that are normally discarded). To top it off its professional and casual in the best possible way. Staff are friendly, knowledgeable and quite obviously are passionate about their jobs. A treat to share with someone special!

If youre thinking about visiting CUB, just go. Its a wonderful, cosseting experience from the moment youre warmly greeted at the door to the assurance that you can hang out for as long as you like after youve finished your meal. You get the feeling that everyone at CUB loves being part of the show so the vibes are some of the best in London. That said, all the vibes in the world cant compensate for bad food but have no fears, the food is here so very good. A glorious sense awakening, soul soothing walk through an Autumn forest, but for your mouth. From the earthy richness of the snacks, through the silken veils of the fennel to the depth of the broth that is so much like being wrapped in a cashmere blanket and being hugged by your very favourite person that I almost refused to leave. Why would you not want to feel like that forever? Just go. Go laugh, learn, eat wonderful things, and leave feeling that however terrible the world might seem there are a group of very smart, warm people making just a little bit more brilliant. Oh and youll never miss the meat.

Quite a great experience in this vegetarian/vegan restaurant. We really enjoyed the flavours, attention to detail from the staff, explanation from the dishes and of course, the pairing, which they can adjust as well for an alcohol free dinner. Food was tasty, with surprises in textures and flavours. Not rating higher just because you might end up bit hungry and price wise its in the higher end.

This was a special experience for us, 4 carnivores having a vegetarian (vegan apart from feta cheese in one of the dishesmeal and not even realising all the dishes were vegetarian until the last dish! Stand out dishes for us were the blood peach with cucumbers, mushrooms capers and turnips. The purple rice dish for us lacked depth and tasted like a knock off of the popular Thai dish purple rice and coconut. Wasnt sure if all the cocktails really brought out the flavours of the food. But the food in and of itself was creative and fun, and full of new combinations of flavours, and we really enjoyed our meal.

Inventive is a word Id use to describe the dishes. Pictured is the Cyprus potato ice-cream with blackcurrants and fennel flower. "POTATO ICE-CREAM?" you cry. Hear me out 🙏Hailing from Cornwall, the spuds are roasted with the skin separated from the flesh, imbuing flavour from the former that has almost caramelised in the roasting process, imparting a subtle sweetness. Blackcurrants encrusted in the transformed milky/anglais flesh provide an obvious hit of acidity. 🍇The dish was inspired by a savoury course on the menu when @lyan.cub first opened. My take on it all? 🤔 Go with an open and curious mind. And be smug that you got to try potato ice-cream that didnt make you drool, but also didnt make you cry.Follow @thismodeleatsalot on Facebook/Instagram!

What an experience! A combination of calm, relaxed and warm service, with incredible beverage and delicious yet challenging food. The venue is a small, cosy little space with the chefs behind the bar on display. The decor is chic and comfortable, and erring on the side of clean and minimal. From the get go the service was outstanding. We didnt have a booking but we went downstairs to the awesome "Superlyan" for a cocktail and got sat very quickly. The maitre de took our bags and took us to our comfortable booth. The set menu cost £60 (£50 for non-alcoholic pairingsand consisted of 10 courses. My wifes pregnancy didnt fase them and they had a whole menu prepared with just us complex drink pairings. The Passion of the team is evident by the pride they take in their work. Big shout out to Jean-Ignace who elegantly demystified the technical aspects of the dishes and bigged up the provenance of the ingredients.Ive left feeling inspired and comfortably full. The best thing is the menu changes regularly so can go back again for another culinary adventure. Thanks Team Cub for a wonderful evening! 🥃🍸🤤🦁

A beautiful and delicious journey through flavour, co-curated and literally hosted by surely one of mixology’s finest minds. The food is sublime, clever dishes often using simple ingredients; the drinks captivating, bizarre concoctions served wonderfully. The design of the space is also noteworthy: the seamless conversion of one of London’s best bars (White Lyaninto a compact yet characterful dining space shows, once again, the genius of the minds behind Mr Lyan.

Good value vegetarian taster menu, full of unusual ingredients and full of flavours. Any menu that begins with Krug is fine by me! Sustainability and supply chain is clearly important here. The concept emphasises the accompanying drinks as much as the food. It’s vegetarian, unfortunately, but they are going for a sustainable approach towards eating and in their view, meat and fish aren’t. The meal, as a result, isn’t as filling as it could be. It was however, very very good food. Unusual combinations and dishes were full of flavour, as were the drinks. We opted for the tasting menu, which at £45 isn’t expensive given this includes more than enough alcohol as well as food to feel relatively satiated. Stand out dish for me was the brined tomato starter. They were more than happy to accommodate a gluten free request and the service was attentive and very informative.

What an amazing experience Cub has been. From the very first mouthful to the very last, the tastebuds tingled with delight. So much thought has gone into this experimental tasting menu. The atmosphere is casual and very friendly. We sat by the Chef as he prepared the food, and it was a delight to see him juggle the many orders with fineness. We had a fantastic time, and hope this place doesnt become so popular that we cant get in next time we visit. I cant give it enough praise.

We went to Cub last night, the new dining/drinking venture from Ryan "Mr Lyan" Chetiyawardana (of White Lyan and Dandelyan and Superlyan fame). Along with ex-Silo chef Doug McMaster, theyve turned the former White Lyan space in Hoxton into an awesome new zero waste restaurant-cocktail bar. The hyphen is well-justified: theres no distinction made between the two concepts, the £45-a-head set menu consisting of five perfectly-proportioned courses, each with a matching cocktail from one of the worlds most celebrated bartenders. That makes it, by some margin, the best value menu in London. But its also one of the most creative: in McMaster, Mr Lyan has found a perfect partner-in-crime. They devise the menus together and by the sounds of it they love to geek out over weird and wonderful new flavours and ingredients, something that will be reflected in a regularly changing menu. All the food we had was delicious, and - without this even being mentioned or indeed noticed - entirely vegetarian. Highlights included a dish of green tomatoes with white peach and purple basil - a surprising and satisfying combination of sweet and savoury - paired to perfection with a refreshing greengage spritzer. It was followed by a monumentally tasty bowl of smoky chervil root, ridiculously piquant red apple, moreish miso and something called "turbo whey" which, whatever it is, binds together an incredibly tasty dish. A bowl of "shrooms on shrooms" - of the king oyster variety - was meaty enough to satisfy even the most voracious of carnivores. The meal was topped off with a buttermilk ice cream sitting atop an apple skin compote (leftovers from the chervil root dishand finished with a pool of douglas fir juice, followed by a coffee concoction enlivened by hints of mint, chocolate and throat-warming capsaicin. Its an intimate space - we sat at the central bar, where we had the benefit of chatting to Doug and Ryan, who are both enormously enthusiastic about what theyre doing. You should be too.
