Archaeological remains of an ancient Carthaginian city later redeveloped during the Roman Empire.
Oh once mighty Carthage now ruins and history...
You can see the ruins of Carthage. And the scenery is very nice.
I would give it a 4/5 * there is not much left of it, if you go with a local guide as we did it is okey, but alone is not worth it. The scenery is beautiful the view is great. But there are some broken statues rocks laying there nothing wow to be honest. It is really hot. Outside you can buy souvenirs desert roses.
Nice place to visit, rich in history
Amazing place full of wonderful history
Lovely Carthage. Must see
This is more a story than a arheological location. So, dont go without a guide. Avoid the hottest part of the day.
Very interesting.
Not a bad place to visit during Fall!!
Amazing roman era architecture and ability to view this in person. We can really go back in time and see how they used to live
Beautiful site for site seeing
Very little left here. A few strategically placed (brokenstatues and pillars, and some old walls. The museum we closed, meaning there was about 15 minutes worth of things to see here.
One of the few Carthaginian sites a pitty the museum at the site has been closed for years
Very interesting place to visit ... Wouldve liked to have stayed a little longer to read more about it. But no choice on an excursion.
There isnt much left of it, but then again, thats why theyre called ruins, I suppose. The basin for the aqueduct is half intact. The letdown here is that the museum is currently closed, and will be for some time, at least until 2023 from what I was told.
Just some ruins. Underwhelming. Needs development.
Very interesting glimpse of the birthplace of Hannibal.
The place and the scenery are beautiful. The basilica is closed for renovations. Many ancient relics are on display but little explanation. but i recommend
Great history!
The feeling of visiting historical sites is always unique like going back in time yet being in the present... wow!! Great to see how the past civilizations lived and enjoyed life creating things we still enjoy these days!
Wonderful place with an excellent view opening over the capital city of Tunis. What I liked the most about this site was the Carthaginian ruins believed to be the city of Hannibal.
Once in Tunisia, the remains of the old Cartagena are must. Ironical truth is that these ruins belonged to Roman settlers, the biggest foe of the original Cartagenians. When Romans defeated them in III Punic war, they distroyed the original settlement to the ground, and re-built his own.
Great view of Tunis and many ruins of punic homes
Interesting ruins with great views over Tunis and Carthage.
A must see! Spectacular view. I love this place.
Beautiful
Amazing to see so much history. To know that the Romans Emperors have been there is owesome. And even more interesting to see the ruins of the small houses that date from even before the Romans period.
Punic structures has been destroyed by Roman
From the bottom of the road which leads up the hill, I took a shepherds path through the grass and trees that eventually leads to the top of the hill. You’re actually rewarded with access to ruins that our outside of the tourist area and much better views of the surrounding area; however, there is a big fence into the offical area so you have to be nimble enough to squeeze underneath it otherwise you have to walk the whole way back down the hill and back up the road to gain access. Very magical place
It was not bad, not that much to see but a pretty place for a photoshoot nonetheless!
Excellent place to visit
This site is actually awesome, but it lacks investment. The road up is through a suburb and looks pretty dodgy near the top. There are a handful of janky shops whos owners lack any sort of honesty or integrity. People who may be unfamiliar with this type of business should avoid them. The museum was closed, so the best pieces were not viewable. This needs to be regulated and operated better by the state as it could be a much better source of income and jobs. Additionally, google maps shows road going through trees and peoples houses. This made navigation more trial and error that direct.
Beautiful place, very nice views!
Amazing place full of history.
Breathtaking ruins and you can get really close!
Amazing history. Great landmark. Beautiful views. Highly recommended for a visit
The museum was closed so that was a huge bummer, otherwise the site was enjoyable to walk around. Security needs to be increased as kids and adults were happily walking over and through the ruins of this majestic site.
Nice place to visit
We started our visit in Carthage by the district of Punic Byrsa which was a walled citadel dominated the city below. Today, only the ruins remain such as the massive foundations and fragments of columns that give us an idea of how impressive was the citadel. Since the Carthage National Museum was closed, we did not have the chance to see the collection of objects found on the site. However, we went to visit the Acropolium, which is the old Saint Louis Cathedral. Visit my Instagram (kelledstyleand my blog for more pictures and info ;-)
Nice place full of history. Museum was closed though.
Great adventure. It is a pity that only great ruins have been left after this wonderful culture.
The better site, most maintained with interpretive signs.
This was not the best place to see ancient Roman ruins. I was excited to see Carthage and learn about the history of this place, however, Tunis needs to put more energy behind curating this site. The museum felt lacking and the site in general could have been more well presented. Luckily it’s inexpensive to get in, 45 minutes to an hour is plenty of time to see everything.
The view of the surrounding city is nice, but the ruins themselves are in bad shape. There is not much that remains. And the property hasnt been taken care of very well. There are literally hundreds of artifacts piles up behind the building. Its very disappointing.
Disappointment, Dont bother. Cost 10 dinars each to get in and aside from the view theres really not much to see, lots of old pillars stacked up like piles of junk. The museum has so much potential but was no better, lots of broken pottery just stacked in heaps with a general title like from x century, hardly any explanation of what the things displayed are and some of translations into English are terrible. Really felt like no effort was put into it at all. Also we didnt realise that the Roman villa, theatre and other places included in the ticket price are not really within easy walking distance (villa is 15 mins + in the hot sun!), I would advise driving if you want to see multiple sites
Nice archeological museumeach stone is a piece of history! Its a pity weve spent too little time there
One of my favorite place, u may see the nice house and nice places especially "lila salha" and the "lac".. also, the museum of fish "Dar el hout" and the historical places
Great views of the ruins of this very important historical site. Take time away from the noise and mayhem and enjoy the quietness and amazing sights.
I loved the visit there and during our tours I tried to imagine, how it looked like during its the most famous days...
There is a nice simple coffee place next to the exit on the territory of the site.
