Бузулуджа & Buzludzha Monument - Park and Garden in Gabrovo, Bulgaria
Bro said he knew a spot
Came here for the first time last year. Came for a second time one month later with my very special person and it was truly magical, as coming up here together was symbolic! We wanted to go inside but unfortunately its not possible anymore, as the building itself is in terrible state and going (sneakinginside is not secure. Be aware of falling objects and pieces of the exterior. There is a security guard that prevents people from sneaking inside. Also be aware that going to the building itself is possible either on foot (requires a bit of steep walkingor by car. I personally prefer walking to the top.
Beautiful place, a reminder of the communist era, a particular structure with beautiful mosaics that unfortunately its abandoned and vandalized. It could be a perfect location for concerts and various events.
Super
Wow!
Very interesting crumbling communist meeting place. Very large and powerful structure. You can only imagine the speeches that went on on those steps on inside the space ship. There is a small ski run on the back side that is operational so worth a check if you are keen to do some winter sports as well.
Soviet Starship 🛸 Its definetely worths to visit. Its bigger than how it looks. There are guardz and cameras so It is almost impossible to enter inside illegally. But also that means the monument is not complete abondoned and some restoration project is going on. I hope one day we will be able to see inside and watch mozaics.
This building was show in the Jason Stathams movie Mechanic Resurrection (2016).
Probably the best view you can see in Bulgaria. Wonderful place, full with space energy, makes you feeling your daily worries insignificant.
The best place, for relax in central Stara planina. A lot of good hotels and open place. Everyone need to see that place
Impressive monument. Badly neglected but fortunately being restored at the moment.
Top 10 alternative tourist landmarks in the world. Its an apogee of the communist architecture. A massive concrete structure that is hard to comprehend and yet beautiful and calming.A must visit.
Probably one of the most controversial buildings in Bulgaria, the Buzludzha Monument is located near the city of Kazanlak and on the Hadzi Dimitar peak. Because of its communistic origin, the Monument suffers from variety of problems, such as ownership issues, lack of preservation strategy, no vision for its future. While the construction attracts hundreds of tourists every year, and even though it is considered an architecture masterpiece, the Monument is in ruins and decomposes slowly.Be mindful of the strong wind at the peak. It could get chilly even in the summer. If you visit, you can also check out the Shipka Monument nearby, as well as the incredible church in Shipka village.
interesting communist place.
Enormous Soviet Era monument. Very impressive. The road there is very hrs and broken. Think twice to get there especially in bad weather.
Incredible place, worth visiting.
The Bulgarian flying saucer is located on the top of Bulgaria’s historic Buzludzha mountain (meaning glacier in Turkishat an altitude of 1441 meters. The mountain occupies an important position in Bulgaria’s modern history. It is the site and battlefield of many historical events. The Ice Peak Monument is built by Bulgaria The Communist regime was built to commemorate the socialist movement organized by the socialist leader Dimitar Blagoev in the region in 1891 (Russia and Bulgaria joined forces to resist Turkish aggression on this hilltop). It was officially opened and opened in 1981, and it is also a podium. The potential intention is to remind people that the former Soviet Union is a good friend of Bulgaria. This "flying saucer" was a national landmark back then. Leaders gave speeches inside the "flying saucer", and tens of thousands of people gathered in the square outside. However, the building did not last long in the hands of the Bulgarian communist regime, but the building itself was also tofu, and due to well-known reasons, it was turned into a dangerous building within a few years and then turned into ruins. Seeing the pictures when it was built that year really gives people a feeling of red flags blowing in the west. The overall shape of the monument is sci-fi, with exquisite decorations of Bulgarian history and tradition. Its overall style seems to be loved even today. However, with the preservation of the Communist Party After the fall, the monument became a sign of failure. No one was responsible for the maintenance and management of the monument.
Strange, ugly, worth visiting. Great view, cannot go inside. Eyesore.
A engineering marvel of its time sad it’s was left abandoned for years it’s good that people are trying to restore it to it’s former glory.
Incredible building to visit in person, was pretty windy and cold at the top so would recommend a decent jacket at the top, we were lucky enough to find a way in and managed to explore the main building. Highly recommend you try to find your way in but be careful as the building is ageing pretty bad and can be dangerous!
Awesome views. Can be quite windy. I think there is no way to enter the building anymore.
A fascinating place to spend a few hours. The view from this place is fascinating. Although it was abandoned, this place looks nice. For those who want to explore it inside - there is 24/7 security checking no one is trying to enter.Note that it is windy there because of the height.
Buzludzha Monument, BulgariaThis bizarre flying-saucer-shaped monument was built in 1981 to commemorate secret socialist meetings that were the precursor to the Bulgarian Communist Party. It is no longer maintained by the government and has been abandoned since 1989. It now stands as a relic of the angular, concrete architecture that defined the Soviet aesthetic
It is a perfect example of brutalist architecture perched on a mountain top. I love the tension between nature versus tonnes of concrete.
Luckily enough and thanks to the Getty Foundation, funding has been secured. The pieces of the scattered mosaics are currently being recovered by a group of specialists. You may see many interesting photos on their official Facebook page called Buzludzha project. So, there is hope after all.Sadly, new funding is not yet secured for the roof but they are looking forward to it in the near future.
We came here at around 8 p.m. It was completely dark, since the Moon hid behind clouds. Wind was whipping through. Excellent environment to walk around the building and to admire its enormous size. Unfortunately the policeman told us to go away - weve only reach the top of the stairs :(.
When they built this, they sheared 30ft off the mountain to get a flat foundation. And when finished, the red star on the tower was the biggest in the world and could be seen 150km away( when litthe roof was heated to disperse the snow that fell on the roof. A striking monument to celebrate the friendship of 2 x communist countries. After 1994, with Mikael Gorbachev, it all changed when communism was ended.
Even though Buzludzha is a monument from the communist era, should be preserved for its historical & artistic relevance. Hopefully theyll reconstruct the site. Besides, is a great opportunity for Bulgaria to pump up its tourist industry.
This place is worth visiting, quite impressive view
Awesome views
Sadly this monument cannot be entered anymore. It is left on the natures will
The Monument House of the Bulgarian Communist Party (also known as the Buzludzha Monumentwas built on Buzludzha Peak in central Bulgaria by the Bulgarian communist government. It commemorated the events of 1891, when a group of socialists led by Dimitar Blagoev assembled secretly in the area to form an organized socialist movement that led to the founding of the Bulgarian Social Democratic Party, a forerunner of the Bulgarian Communist Party. The monument was abandoned after the fall of the Soviet Union in 1989 and now lies derelict.Apart from the political background the place is magical. You can feel so small surrounded by the mountain peaks and the views from there are unbelievable. You have 360 degree panorama view.Near by is the Hadzhi Dimitars monument, situated in the forest below the peak.
Awesome ride on a motorcycle to see this monument of times past 🏍️💨💕
A very interesting place (and also very very scenic as it is located on the top of the mountainsfor tourists and locals. Keep in mind that the place is very windy and the road leading to it is not very good (but still suitable for a normal car). If you are there, make sure to visit Shipka Monument and Shipka church too. Unfortunately, the building is pretty much falling apart.
WOW what a sight coming out of the mist at you ,one to tick off the bucket list mind the road up there are potholes you could loose a mini in. It was -1 with a heavy mist but the wind chil made it feel like -14 but it was well worth it A MUST SEE.
I havent been here but just watched a Discovery Channel documentary on this place. Very cool! Laws were passed for no Communist symbols to be displayed now; so a question was at the end of this documentary: Will it be torn down now? From watching Mysteries of the Abandoned on the Discovery channel Ive learned of so many abandoned places like this all around the world!!In my opinion, magnificent structures like this one could be recycled/re-used as other things. This one hosted MANY communist leaders at one time so could be transformed into a mountaintop vacation retreat, a remote drug/alcohol rehabilitation facility or even just a fantastic location to appreciate the surrounding scenery with the right investor!!What do you think it could be transformed into?...
A place that has an astounding view , at the same time it left me sad at the neglect of the structure which I may add it is a state of the art construction and could be converted into a beautiful touristic desttion !!!
Nice monument with great views!
Amazing place. I recommend you to climb up to the top early in the morning when no-one is there except the security. You need to get a permission from the man in Veliko Tarnovo to get into the building but I think a little bribery will do the job as well.
Particular communist architecture in picturesque surroundings. Worth the drive up.
Cool place for a stop. There is a guard posted so you won’t be able to go inside. Be careful if it is very windy, you might fall off the mountain. Eerie but beautiful place.
Worth driving up there. Awesome view from the Rose Valley, the surrounding mountains and of the old communist monument. Cool graffiti too.
rough road to drive up, but totally worth it. It was closed and water dripping from the ceiling, bit creepy especially nobody else around. hope it could have some maintenance.
Must visit Monument Busludza. Near Shipka.
Interesting to see but u r not allowed to go inside. (Potentially dangerous due to asbest.)
One of my favorite places in Bulgaria. The architecture is really unique, hope they renovate it cause the inside is pretty epic too
Place is great. Looks like crashed Enterprise from Star Trek.... Its possible to go with car almost on top. Unfortunately since its there police mini station, its impossible to go inside building but still its worth to come here...
Dont miss this if your heading through the area. You can park at the bottom and hike a long way up or if your not into hiking. Its a long way up. There is a dirt road in ok condition that will take you all the way. There was a way to get inside but we couldnt find it. Friends got into it a few days after we tried.
It is amazing what kind of monuments communist have built to glorify their failed religion of brotherhood of mankind. You need to see it to believe it. It is next to an amazing mountain bike downhill trail. Seeing young Bulgarian boys and girls testing their adrenaline going down with crazy speed instead of forming new political parties and fighting hopeless battle on the top of the mountain is so hopeful!
Discover Buzludzha Monument in Kran, Bulgaria: An abandoned saucer-shaped monument in the Bulgarian mountains. This place is incredible, something unique. You will never regret going there! But now it is impossible to go in. It is completely sealed.
