We had such an amazing time today at the Buttonwood Zoo! It was quiet and perfectly sized. The animals were very active and we had a really fun time watching a lot of them get fed. We also had an amazing talk with one of the zookeepers (Zookeeper Kyle aka Zookeeper Bubbleswho spent so much time explaining in-depth many of the animals lifestyles as well as answering all the questions that my kids had.I would recommend only bringing a single stroller (not a doubleor a baby carrier, as some of the doorways were too thin to bring my double stroller through.Even in their off season, I would definitely recommend taking time to visit.

Great place for smaller children, good family outing. They enjoyed the little train ride and carousel. In warm weather you need to go early in the day if you want to see some of the animals who hide in the heat.

My wife and I have a membership here for our kids. We come around 10 or so times a year. It is such a cute little zoo with a surprising variety of animals. Sizes also really good for passing a morning, or passing an afternoon. Without having to plan an entire day around going to the zoo itself. With a leisurely pace and handling two toddlers you can usually see everything that you want to see or the entire park in about 2 to 3 hours. Its also very inexpensive for non-residents of the town that its located in. If your resident of New Bedford Massachusetts you do get a little bit of a discount but its like 25% so on a $10 adult ticket its not that much of a difference. the other cool thing is if you do have an annual membership here the zoo is part of the Americans zoological association. Which would also Grant you access to other zoos that are part of the aza either for free or at a significantly reduced rate. As an example if we were in Miami when the zoos there in Miami we would be able to get into for free if memory serves correct. This is such a cute little zoo if you live in the South shore area of Massachusetts and youre looking for a half day activity thats not a super far drive for most points this is a very perfect place for you to be.

A very pleasing and relaxing atmosphere all throughout the park. Parking is ample and it’s a short walk to the entrance. The gift shop is stocked with all manner of stuffed animals and souvenirs certain to appease even the most discerning shoppers. The train ride and carousel were specially entertaining or rather fascinating for little ones.Park staff can be easily located or identified and are glad to assist with any questions. The keepers are very knowledgeable and easy to approach with inquiries about the animals in their care.Of note, the Bald Eagles are an impressive sight given their overall size and expansive wingspan. The food court maintains a limited menu and prices are relative compared to other similar places. Restroom facilities are well maintained and stocked.I did not upload nor take any pictures of actual zoo animals as to not take away from the experience of any future visitor.

We hadn’t been in years. What a sad sight it was! The ponds were filthy disgusting, the areas where the animals lived were full of weeds, overgrown. Inside the buildings stunk of urine so strong you had to run through it. Every animal looked sad and it made me sad. I’m sure with Covid and people not wanting to work this has been a challenge. However, they need a better place to live where they can be happy and well cared for

I found the rainforest exhibits to be especially interesting given the size of the zoo. A surprise for sure. Buttonwood has a lot to offer for being such a small park. Lots of shade and interesting flora around the park.

I love Buttonwood Park. Since my last visit they got red pandas and Monkeys. My favorites will always be the River Otters though. Some libraries have passes but memberships are affordable if you live close by. It’s a cute place to visit and walk for exercise and it’s small enough to see everything in an hour or extend the visit if you wish which makes it great for small children. Parking is free and close by.

To be fair this is a smaller zoo. But its a fair experience for the price of admission. And prices for food and souvenirs are very reasonable. The animals are healthy and active and the staff are all so knowledgeable!

We love this zoo. The main attraction is Emily and Ruth the residents Asian elephants at the zoo. The zoo isnt very big and can be done in under an hour if you want. However there are plenty of activities to do that can entertain a child for about 3 hours. The park is very flat and easy to walk with paths paved everywhere. A membership here is very worth it especially if you live nearby.

The Buttonwood Park Zoo was a frequent destination of my family when I was a child, so visiting and seeing that it’s still in operation makes me happy. The animals seem to be treated well enough, with ample space to roam save for a few (black bear, lynx, coyote). The primates have a neat series of indoor/outdoor cages that lets them travel from enclosure to enclosure, so that gives them more room to roam as if they were in the wild. The entire zoo can be walked in a couple of hours, (maybe 3-4 for a weekend day to account for crowdsso it’s a good place to go for half a day. Overall, I’d recommend Buttonwood to families, especially those with younger children, or couples who enjoy seeing animals in a simulated “natural” habitat.

Super cute little farm zoo. They have an odd mixture of animals but it’s a great walking path and they weren’t too busy. Carousel was super fun and the gift shop had a lot of nice stuff. Perfect for busy toddlers (the play center in the back!Staff we’re super friendly and lots of easy parking.

Super cute zoo!...theres so much to see, yet its small enough for little ones to be able to hang in there for the tour. Theres a carousel that our daughter loved, theres a food court, picnic tables throughout the park, and gift shop. We visit once a year and it always makes for a fun day.

I was blown away by this place! Ive lived an hour away my entire life and have never even heard of this place. I could not have been happier with my visit. The animals all looked content in this zoo which is proven by the zoos AZA verification. We meet a volunteer at the elephant area and she was a wealth of knowledge, incredibly friendly, and so passionate. You could tell she cared and I feel like that is a common theme throughout the zoo. Go! Its like ten bucks for a ticket and you wont regret it.

The exhibits were well maintained. It did seem like there werent many animals about but that could be due to weather and other factors. The kids enjoyed it which is what matters. So no worries, kids will love it.

Nice little zoo! I didnt do any research so Im hoping that all of these animals are rescues. When I was younger I worked several years with with all types of exotic animals. The enclosures they keep these animals in dont really seem to be that bad.It looked as though they were well taken care of. I think its a good place to take young children to learn about animals.

Nice little zoo, clean and easy to navigate, but hard to find in general as there was only one tiny little sign that a saw pointing in the direction of the zoo. Most animals were visible and active. Nice little zoo for kids. Big playground nearby and a carousel inside the zoo(but apparently you need to buy a token for it, its not included with admission which I thought was a little strange)Theres a nice little cafe with a great kid-friendly menu. All in all it was a nice place to stop on our way home to Connecticut from Cape Cod.

We went on an outing to Buttonwood Park Zoo today with our local DD Support Program and had a great time! The zoo is just big enough to be entertaining vs. overwhelming and is flat (making it accessible for all). It has indoor and outdoor land and aquatic animal exhibits as well as a restaurant which allows outside food. It also has a carousel and train (not included with admission ticket).Buttonwood Park is free and has a playground, picnic tables, and basketball and tennis courts.

Buttonwood Park ZooJune 5, 2022I visited the zoo with a free Wareham library pass and it was a beautiful sunny day, I couldnt of asked YHWH for more beautiful weather. It was the perfect day for a zoo visit. It wasnt too busy with guests so it wasnt crowded. There was 2 birthday parties going on in the building when I was there, but at different times. I find that to be a wonderful idea for parents, the kids were having a blast at the zoo. I arrived at 10:30am and some of the animals were still resting, sleeping or not yet active for viewing. Around 11:30am-12:00pm the zookeepers were feeding them so I decided to walk around the zoo a couple more times to see if I could see the animals I missed from walking around the first time around. Luckily I got to see them all. I like this zoo because its small and its perfect for small children because its not an excessive amount of walking. I do however wish that they had more animals to see. My ultimate favorite is the moon jellyfish located in the tropical building a mask is required to enter. The moon jellyfish are just simply exquisite, unique and amazing. Watching them swim around in a circle together and how they glow and breathe. Its an amazing feeling being able to see underwater life on the surface of the earth. The other amazing under the sea creature was the orange starfish with the purple background it was artistic and beautiful display. That starfish liked to pose for the perfect picture. The seahorses were adorable clinging to plants and hanging out in their tank. I love opossums and I was hoping that he would be on display, but he doesnt have his own habitat he is only visable for shows.Overall I had a wonderful time. I got a cookie ice cream sandwich at the cafe and I stopped by the gift shop on the way out and bought a small opossum and a Buttonwood Park Zoo t-shirt. All the zoo staff is helpful, professional, and friendly.I definitely will visit this quaint adorable zoo again in the future. Highly recommend for ALL ages!Go and have a Zoo-Terrific Time!

Membership is more than worth it. Can go whenever you want for as long as you want during open hours. One of the best parts is the reciprocal list that lets you visit other zoos as well for either half off or totally free. Such as, Boston museum of science…for free! Just callAhead and they email you the complimentary tickets for the places on the reciprocal list. The zoo itself is one of the oldest zoos in the country. They have done some great updates over the years, including a nice childrens area near the back by the farm animals. Also a new fennec fox area is underway. I recommend going on a weekday as they open to catch the cougars and other exhibits get their first meals.

Had my sons 3rd birthday party which with pandemic it was it 1st official. This place was amazing... We have 5 birthdays in our immediate house hold in this week.We know the pressure of throwing a kids party. It was worry free Jordan was simply a phenomenal host and was beyond our expectations..The lizard ambassador was great for our 3 year old.Gave a little extra after cake ice cream..Then last walk thru our group all were raving how stress free relaxed fun experience here..Everyone was extremely nice during stressful time with all the visitors multiple birthday partys. We left most up to the staff and we were not disappointed..I did notice if visiting order food before your starving if its busy staff makes it all fresh so give them the time needed there working hard Ive seen it myself.Overall Outstanding job we are extremely grateful.Even older kids had fun..So outdoor birthday party you can spend with family and not worry about things dont matter..Book it....thank me later...

Its a nice small Zoo. Easy to go through in short time. The kids love the elephants, red panda, otters and aquarium section. they also really enjoy the train ride. Just wished the carousel ride was a little longer. And we miss all the farm animals. The staff is friendly and answers questions about the animals. Ive been coming here since i was a kid and now I take my kids.

Nice zoo, admission is nicely priced at $6 considering the zoo is pretty small. Theres a carousel and train ride to keep smaller kids occupied that is $2, so very cheap. You can see everything in the zoo in a little over an hour, but the exhibits are very nice. Horses, elephants, harbor seals, mountain lions are some of the few that are there. There are plenty of bathrooms and vending machines, so theres no long walks to try and find one.The aquarium area has a touch pool to feel some of the animals like starfish and dogfish, and all the staff are very knowledgeable and friendly, and willing to answer questions about the animals.

Nice clean zoo, on the smaller side. You can see everything in about 1-1.5 hours. Bathrooms are always clean and they have a cafe to buy food which is reasonably priced. You can also bring in your own food and have a picnic lunch. Train ride and carousel for kids is a nice addition to this zoo and there is also an imaginative outdoor play area for children.

I always loved Buttonwood Park. Whenever I want to just park and relax, I always want to go to Buttonwood Park. Specially the pond area. Im so very disappointed of how our once a beautiful pond are now a total mess! Even all the birds that were once there, theyre no longer there or theyve chosen to go to the other side of the pond. The grass are long! There are very little beautiful flowers left around. With all the work that had been done to beautified New Bedford, Im very proud to say, I live in New Bedford! Buttonwood Park, specially the pond area are in so badly need of extensive renovation! Truly Cares!

A very small zoo with some great exhibits but a little pricey ticket wise for it size. We were able to get though the zoo in about 2 hours. We took our time to admire the animals along the way. Almost all the animal exhibits gave you clear views. The grounds/animals seemed well kept and clean. The animals seemed to like viewing the humans outside as much as we enjoyed watching them play around, eat, loff and sleep. There was an area where you could have a cool hands on encounter with some sea stars, sting ray and little bitty cute sharks. The man in charge of the sea life touch exhibit was extremely friendly and knowledgeable about the animals inside. They cared about helping your kids not be afraid of the animals, teaching them, and telling them funny stories about each animal inside. There seemed to be a smattering of extra paid activities that you could enjoy like the carousel and train. Price wise the food was reasonable and so was the gift shop. They really seemed to want you to have a great time. We did have a great time.

My family loves this local zoo and have been members for a few years. Its small but well-funded and what it lacks in grandeur it makes up for with unique areas such as the new nature play area and the always fun zoo train and carousel. Buttonwood makes strides to help educate old and young alike about important issues such as climate change and conservation. We try to go at least once a week- but we admittedly spend more time there in the spring and fall. For a small zoo you can find yourself spending hours wandering through (but even with small kids, you can do a rather quick walkthrough and feel like you got the whole experience without having to dedicate the entire day.We never feel rushed and its just a genuinely nice place to enjoy nature. A family membership is very affordable and offers reciprocity at many zoos around the country.
