Butterflies on the Vliet - Zoo in Zaltbommel, Netherlands
If you like butterflies you must visit this place. They have thousands of them in many shapes and colors flying around you as you walk.
A piece of tropical jungle in the Netherlands! It was a pleasant walk in tropical space with a huge amount of butterflies flying around you. All of them were very beautiful and colorful. Landscape and temperature reminded me of asian trips. Very well designed and maintained space. Keep in mind that it is hot and humid inside as if you are in tropics. Besides butterflies tiny beautiful birds are flying around, and they are super cute. Its around 30 minutes walk but I would sit there quietly watching butterflies for longer if I was alone. My three years old wasnt that impressed as it was not allowed to toch butterflies or anyone there :)
Small but, beautiful lots of beautiful butterflies and some smaller Animals :)
Nice place to visit with kids and see a lot of interesting butterflies.Plenty of parking if you want to come by car.
Beautiful garden with lots of 🦋 and caterpillars, ours children love this place, we spent like 4 hours here.
Loads and loads of pretty butterfles
Pretty small but kept us entertained for 20 min 😊
Very interesting place, lots of beautiful butterflies, would recommend
Update 2022: Improved so raised from 3 to 4 stars. More interaction and the vegatation and number of butterflies and other animals grew. I think the price stayed more or less similar which also means it is more appropriate now for the time spend. Recommended to spend a couple of hours. (1,5 - 2,5).2013: Nice but very much overpriced. There are nicer and cheaper butterfly gardens in Holland. Look for reduced tickets to make the visit worthwhile. The butterflies, of course, are fantastic.
A tropical garden filled with mainly butterflies of various types but it also contains crocodiles, turtles, frogs and other interesting animals.Walking through this beautiful garden you will spot all stages of becoming a butterfly and the fungus that consumes them. The people working there are passionate about butterflies and full of knowledge, do say hi to them and ask any question you might have. There is a small shop and cafe and the garden is accessible for those with mobility issues but some sideways might not be easily accessible.Bus 45 stops nearby.Highly recommended
This was absolutely beautiful. And really fun for kids and adults.Even teenagers.
Amazing place. Can be interesting not only for children, but for the adults as well!
Lots more than just butterflies to see. Birds, crocs, spiders, iguanas too. Look out for the eggs, caterpillars and chrysalises all around. Spoke to Jan, the owner/zookeeper who was incredible and full of information. Loved it.
Wonderful little indoor garden filled with butterflies and little paths to explore. Dress in breezy clothing; tropical climate. There are some aquaria and other small animals, but you’ll probably come for the butterflies and you won’t be disappointed! Careful where you step; they might even sit on a path you walk on. ;)
It was ok. I wasnt blown away by the variety of butterflies. There wasnt much for the kids to do after walking around. The cafe could also offer more food options. Overall, its ok if you have nothing else better to do.
My son had a blast. He enjoyed feeding the ducks too. Great place for kids.
Really nice quite place. Not lots of people in the morning. A beautiful array of tropical plants as well. Clean bathrooms and a Cafe. Definitely go with kids
Awesome place, awesome ducks.
Perfect day out with kids when the weather is cold outside. There are a lot of beautiful butterflies, birds and a few reptiles to see, jungle paths to explore, but I think the best is the staff. They are really passionate about these animals and ready to take the time to explain anything you want to know.
This was so beautiful! Really warm too, haha. We had a lot of fun♡ definitely a recommendation !!
Its not a very big place, but a lot to see! Had a few hours of fun. If you are in to photography take your camera with you.
A fun outing for all ages. A lot of beautiful butterflies and some bonus animals 😍
Fantastic cozy place to relax and enjoy the butterflies, tropical vegetation, birds and all kinds of flora and fauna. Remember to come on a sunny day, otherwise a lot of the butterflies will be hiding out. Even on a cloudy day, there is plenty to see. Staff is very friendly too. Highly recommended!
Nice place to see butterflies and few other small animals. The place is humid, which is apparently the suitable environment for butterflies. Tickets are a bit expensive, but parking is free.
This is a little hidden gem! Its not huge, but there is plenty to see and explore. The little "wild" paths going through the jungle, the small benches where you can sit and enjoy the butterflies dancing around in the sunlight is truly magical. Also, you can feed the fish and the ducks around the greenhouse. There are also birds roaming around, and if you search for a while you will find all sorts of animals! From lizards to zebra finches to leaf insects and catterpillars, you can take your time to explore it all.A few helpful tips for others:- Wheelchair friendly parking, entrance, and paths!- If it gets too hot, you can take a break outside and cool down before going back in!- If you want to feed the ducks or fish, bring 50 and 20 cent coins!- *please* dress for the climate! Even if its 15 degrees outside, it will be nearly 30 inside the greenhouse.- There are cold drinks available, but pack some extra so you dont dehydrate!- Truly take your time to look under leaves and up in the trees and bushes! Some butterflies hide or there are catterpillars to be seen.
Butterflies in a subtropical climate! Entry price is kinda steep. However, kids will love it. Good to start the day with.
Beautiful place and very friendly staff, great place for kids to explore or even a quite day out for some other then just coffee. Amazing experience
We went to buy pumpkins and came across this place with butterflies. What a nice surprise it was! Beautiful butterflies, birds and some reptiles as well. Definitely worth a visit. A tip: take off your jacket when you go in as it is really warm inside
Unique, beautiful place, recommended for families!
This garden is definitely a hidden gem near Leiden- placed slightly outside of the city it is a beautiful garden full of exotic birds and butterflies. The entrance was just under 10€ and it was totally worth it.
Perfect attraction with the kids, all covered so great on a rainy day
Super Fun, educational and lovely.
Amazing, so much more impressive than it looks from the outside. Lots of beautiful butterflies, nice pathways, little bridges, watchtowers in an artificial rainforest. Truly an immersive experience. They also have some other fun animals like turtles, parrots, lizzards and a croccodile.
Very nice collection of butterflies and reptiles. No large scale but cosy place
Small but pretty butterfly zoo!
Nice place but overpriced. And its hot like hell there 😁
A peace of the rainforest. Nice staff
Nice place to spend an hour or two!
Nice place to spend an hour with kids. If you go when they allow you to pet snakes its double fun! The ice cream in the cafeteria is bit pricey.
A good alternative to go with kids !
A lovely place to visit with children. Its small but there are lots to see. Butterflies, birds, fish and a crocodile! We spent over an hour happily wondering around the jungle like interior!
The place itself is lovely. It is filled with beautiful alive butterflies flying here and there. Be careful though you might be over dressed for the occasion. Because the place imitates the tropical environment, its really is warm. If you pay the full price, I think €9 is too much for like a 15 minute tour in such small a place. However, if you think about the maintenance and utilities that they have to pay, maybe that is the right price to pay. It also depends on what you like, my daughter enjoyed more the few aquaria with colorful fishes than the butterflies, she is only 3 and still get startled when a butterfly is flying around.Aside from the butterflies, you can enjoy looking at fish, turtles, crocodiles, and around her some loose walking chickens.Of course, if you arrive to the place cycling, you may enjoy the animals like horses, chickens, and sheep grazing around the area. You may also enjoy the view along the Vliet canal if you have cycle along that way, which in our case, we did.
Amazing place, small but very personal... the owner is doubling the jungle he has now... liked it very much, beautiful flowers and butterfly.
nice for a half day stay.
Its a nice place, lots of amazing butterflies and some other animals too (birds and a crocodile and such), but its quite expensive for how small the venue is
Was great place , beautiful butterflies, the place was small and very warm , I wanted to go out several times to breath fresh air, However my son enjoyed a lot
Very nice for little ones. Lots of butterflies in all shapes and colors with few other animals (snakes, small crocodile, turtles, little ducks and a parrot). It’s little expensive for what it is. You can finish it all in less than 20 min and tickets are 9euros for adults and 6euros for 3 year old kids. There is free parking and a small swing outside. Be careful it’s very (verywarm inside and there is a jacket hanger near the door. There is also a small kitchen to order light sandwiches. There is also a very small gift shop (displaythat sells little plush toys.Note: it opens from 23 Feb to 28 October only
very nice, but way too expensive for the size of the venue.
Nice, but an hour is enough. This is a nice butterfly tropical indoor greenhouse. Lots of butterflies, also other things like birds, fish, iguana, turtles, insects. After an hour you saw everything.
Really fun to visit. There are many butterflies and catarpillars but it isnt really big or anything.
