Butrint National Park, Albania - Historical landmark in Tepelene, Albania
Visited Butrint on an excursion from corfu. We had a guided tour which made it a bit more interesting. Apparently they have excavated some beautiful mosaic floors but unfortunately there was a storm on the morning we visited so they were all covered in muddy puddles. All in all a disappointing visit, a lot of travel to see barely anything. Not the highlight of our holiday.
Interesting place to visit & an enjoyable walk . Only negative was a a few mosquitoes about .
A very special place, it would be easy to tag onto a tour group of your language or as we did just use the informative interpretation boards. From 4th century BC gateways to amazing views over the sea to Corfu a great day trip.
I had 15y that I hadnt visit Butrint! Now it was really clean and you had passages to walk and maintenance was really good. What made me hapoy was that now there were still archeologist doing researches. So it is a great place to viait and know more about the albanian history and culture. Is a top spot for turists.
A nice place to walk around and learn about the history of this trading old city. Interesting how strategic its position was back in the days.Even if you are not a big fan of history, a troll around the place is quite nice. Only disappointed that I did not see the mosaics that I wanted to see (out of protection reason, it is covered in sand and only specific period they will be shown. I am not sure when).
Interesting tour and a good little museum at the end. Also some nice scenery
Didnt know what to expect but Im so glad I ventured to see it. Stunning!Glad it wasnt too hot today otherwise I could imagine how uncomfortable it could be
A good place for a short walking and it is all.Is better to obtain a guide here, otherwise is not something wow.
A must visit for history, archaeology and architecture lovers! Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Ottoman ruins and buildings intermingle to form a unique archaeological site. The terrace of the small museum at the top of the hill offers a nice view of the surroundings.
Probably the best archaeological park in Albania, well maintained and easy to visit. There is parking outside the entrance.
Beautiful, wonderful. A place that will leave you lost for words for what could of been if you use your imagination. There is plenty to see and do. Very well sign posted and with some fantastic views looking south over the flat lands. The price is expensive compared to the rest of Europe for ancient city’s.
Great place to spend a couple of hoursGet there at opening time 9am and youll have the place to yourself before the coach loads arrive
So beautiful placeThis ancient park combines monuments from a lot of different eras. You will experience the variety of civilization past from this place during the years. Beautiful route around the forest where the park is located. Next to the park there is something between lake and swamp so the place is full of mosquitos. So you have to be aware and prepared about the mosquitos
This place is full of history. Strategic location made this area important throughout the years, dating back to neolithic age. You will find some good spots to take some nice photographs and learn about the history of this site. You can cross to the other side with a small nostalgic ferry.
Really worth a visit! Well preserved, the infographics show you how the specific monuments were arranged at different times in history. Bonus point: lots of tall trees so its a fantastic place to get away from the Albanian heat for a while.
Feels like your walking back on time. So many details around here. This archeological park was the best part in our Albania tour. There’s a small coffee shop as well when you reach the castle.
Interesting site, entre fee is 1000 Lek, for Dutch people its also know from "wie is de mol"
Awesome place! We went at about 10am to avoid the heat and also meant we were there without the crowds that appeared as we were leaving at about 12:30. Took us about an hour and a half to walk through the whole place, useful paper guide in English as well. Highly recommend making the journey out!
II century BC to XVI AD we can find ruins of Hellenic period, early and late Roman emperor, Middle age, Venetian domination. It is impressive the state of buildings and the location itself.Butrint archaeological Park is a landmark not to be missed
it’s better if you go early in the morning when it opens because the parking is empty, people are coming around 11. when we left, the parking was full and there was a queue from the park up to the view point parking. if you come after 11 you should park there and bring a water bottle with you. but the park is so beautiful you won’t be disappointed if you like history or what to see something different.
Absolutely to visit if you want see great antic archelogical and nature treasures.
This is one of the best parks I have been to. Its atmosphere is straight out of Indiana Jones movie as you walk through ruins of roman buildings. If you feel adventurous you can go off the main path and explore the city walls.
Great place, lots of ancient greek, roman and venice ruins in a decent condition. Good views from the top on surrounding area.
Really cool! Definitely worth doing if you are in the area. If you are travelling here, often by taxi, you may be told it only takes an hour. However we were easily 2 hours. Theres lots to see, and some nice cafes and even an art gallery. Its all one site, when we went it cost 1000 lek per person. It is fairly busy, but not unpleasantly so.
Interesting site on Butrint history. the path is well organized and signs are readable. to visit whole park you need 2 hours. adult entrance amounts 1000 lekes. The car lot is small compared to how much people visit it.
When you go to visit The Butrint National Park you will have a feeling that you are traveling back to the past and experience the world how the kingdoms during that time used to live.
A place to visit if you are touring Albania. . Easy access, pleasant shade. Unlike the majority of archeological sites it can be visited even during the hottest hours in summer since the paths inside the area are almost completely covered by trees!
Very nice place,Butrin National park- UNESCO. Prehistoric time, Greek after Roman city.
There is a lot to see here and expect to do a lot of walking. My wife and I went and were very surprised how big it was, I guess we expected something smaller. That being said we wondered everywhere. There were lots of information boards telling you about what had been compared to what is there now. It is definitely worth the trip and admission was nominal. Parking was free.
A very interesting park to see. The views were spot on however, there should be more places in the shade. More toilets is another thing they should work on.
When you go to visit The Butrint National Park you will have a feeling that you are traveling back to the past and experience the world how the kingdoms during that time used to live.
Amazing, if you love roman times you will love Butrin.
Obligatory place to visit during stay in Sarande. You can go there by local bus. Ticket is 150 lek. All placs are under trees, nice shodow.
9/junUNESCO Heritage Site. A very interesting park with many findings from Venetian and Roman era, with castle/museum, basilica, housing, mosaics, amphitheatre and paths. The Baptisterium keeps the mosaic preserved under protection, and every couple of years they remove it for the visitors admiration. A 3-4h slow pace walk would cover the whole ground.
You need around 1 hour to finish all of the exploring. Its 1000 LEK per person for adults (kids under age od 12 years - free.. and kids from 12 to 18 years i think 500LEK). Bring something to drink - or you have a Bar there, where you can buy drinks, but its expensive.
Its an amazing place with great historical and cultural value, but 1000 LEK for a ticket is a little too much. Also, better equip yourself with a plenty of water in the summer time - they only sell a small bottles in the cafe there for a very high prices.
Its kind of a park with certain antique ruins, castle, museum, panoramic views... Interesting. Better to visit once its not too hot. The joyful walk through the mapped way of all the attractions will take you around one hour, but there is also a coffee shop on the territory, so you might consider to spend there even a couple of hours having few stops under the shady trees 😉
Awe-inspiring ruins and archaelogical site. Guide, lots of water and right footwear needed.
Very interesting and beautiful place. The museum at the end is especially great. The only thing I was missing is option for card payment for the tickets.
Very hot day when we went, but very interesting. A lot of climbing up uneven steps to the top but well worth it. Museum at the top, could have done with more time to look around.
Interesting place to visit, and access to the site is pretty unrestricted allowing you to explore as much as you want. Even if you aren’t interested in archaeology the views are worth the entrance fee (1000 lek)You can get a bus here from Ksamil (100 lekor Sarande (150 lek). This runs hourly, leaving at xx:30 from both Sarande and Butrint.
Excellent well-preserved historical site, where you can touch the walls and as a matter of speaking hug the statues. The area is very quiet, with lots of trees and beautiful views of the surroundings. Spent 2hours discovering this area. Entrance= 1000lek
Beautiful antique park. A lot of ancient buildings survived.Great views around the park.Worth to visit, but the price I think is a little too high.
Nice park, well-preserved, easy to navigate, shows many layers of Albanian history. Worth visiting overall. Entrance fee - 1000 lek per person, parking available, the road is good.
Lovely archeological site in a very nice natural setting. Located close to the Greek border, it can be planned en-route to or from Greece. The small ferry (5 euro for a caris another adventure by itself. The site entrance fee is 8 euro per person, and its open from 9 am till 7 pm (in Aug).
Absolute must visit for anyone in the area. Truly a world treasure. The history is incredible and having a guide helps a lot. Lots to explore and see. Can easily spend hours here but would suggest two or three hours for most people. Really great spot to bring food for a picnic ;-)
Nice national park to go sightseeing with your family. Don’t forget you cap 🧢 from the sun and a bottle of water as there is only one cafe near a castle and as usual no credit card, just cash 😟Plan at least 2 hours.Be aware it’s hot 🥵 but worth going.
Fantastic place to visit. Ancient and early medieval buildings - amphitheatre, ruins of great cathedral, defense walls, castle surrounded by incredibly beautiful nature - lake, mountains, rare trees. Overall tour takes about 2 - 3 hours, including visit in museum, where you can see ancient sculptures, medieval bowls and plates, prehistoric stone tools.Entrance cost: 1000 leke per adult person, 500 per kid.
This place is so underrated. My sister and I decided to check it out quickly after hanging out at the beaches of Ksamil, and Im so glad we did. It was well run, theres plenty of parking, the ruins were really cool, and there were plenty of signs in English explaining what everything was. There were also artisan stands inside the park with tons of really cool hand made goods.
Interesting place if you are interested in history. Probably better to come in low season because it is very hot to walk even though there is lots of shadows. You can buy some souvenirs inside. We could not find any place to buy water and the museum was closed. The toilet was working.
