Buta ramen in Halifax

The first vegetable ramen I finished and wanted a second portion of!Edit; I went back and had it again, added an egg, it enhanced my experience

Great little ramen place!Friendly staff, good food (tako yaki had nice amount of octopus, tonkotsu ramen had good flavour, not too salty), quaint atmosphere.Definitely recommend if you’re downtown!

Food: Tonkatsu Ramen was good. I love their grilled pork belly and the broth. Cheese cake was also good.Place: Not too bad. However, place was a bit tiny.

The ambiance is quite nice, the food is delicious, and the staff is super friendly. I had the spicy pork ramen with wavy noodles and it was truly amazing! Highly recommend.

Very nice ramen place with a fun pig theme. Building is cool and hip and the place has a good vibe with tasty food and friendly staff.

Pretty tasty, Im no expert in ramen but this one felt like it hit the right notes. Also the open concept garage door to the sidewalk is a dope vibe. Definitely a fun spot to check out

I order vegan ramen. Broth was delicious. Portion was decent size. I wish they could offer any selection for toppings,like other ramen places. It came with very few toppings,besides that i highly recommend this place. Staff was very welcoming and friendly.

Fantastic ramen and service!! Broth for Tonkatsu Ramen was light and flavourful while the broth for the Tantanmien was rich and satisfying!!! Our top pick though....the Tacowasabe.....SOOOO good! Must visit if you are in the area. Enjoy!!

I was surprised that I could find the ramen in Halifax.Its favor is not the same as Vietnam restaurant but anyway, you should try them. Because it’s very delicious and big bow for one.

ACTUALLY 4.5 STARSNice space, good volume, really pleasant bay window. I had my doubts, no real scent of broth in the air, but perhaps due to efficient AC and kitchen being tucked in the back.The taco yaki were plentiful (6and flavorful, a great start. Happily we tried the aji fry (horse mackerel- fantastic.My med spicy Miso Ramen took effort and patience to enjoy. My lady had the seafood yaku udon it was a plentiful, flavourful delight.Very good service. $60 for 2 apps and meals of this caliber in Halifax is to be celebrated.

Poor experience. It took the waiter 10 mins before greeting us as he kept walking in front of us as we stood at the entrance. No eye contact, nothing. We were then brought to a table and it took another 10 mins. before he came to get our orders. 25 mins later, no food, no glass of water, nothing on the table. Not even the spices and containers the other tables had. The only waiter seemed clearly overwhelmed. The other tables, who arrived after us, started to get their plates. We had to ask a new waiter for our food, and she then brought it immediately... My noodles were overcooked and everything was really saggy.Overall experience, really poor.

The menu is short but all you want here is ramen.The side dishes portion is too little in my opinion. The kimchi side dish has about 2 bites (not 2 pieceswhich is ridiculous.Not recommend for appetizer either due to the portion vs the price

Every time I went there to eat, I got different service. Last time they never asked me spicy level, but the other day, he asked us about the spicy level. Its nothing but to a person love the spicy like me, I have been eating none spicy for the whole months and now I knew that I can change the spicy level to highest in any dishes 🥲. The ramen is the best flavour in town so far that I have tried 😁.

Not a great experience.Miso ramen -Charsiu came chopped into pieces and cold.Seafood spicy ramen -Mussel doesnt taste freshDry fry charsiuOverall taste like thicken instant noodle with many small bits chunks of sides added for presentation.Appetizer is good.Tako wasabi sweet and intense wasabi flavour.

As someone thats been to Japan multiple times. This ramen is not Japanese made. I had tonkotsu ramen and karaage. The broth was weak, noodles were not good. The egg and pork belly were ok! Karaage was awful.

Service was great as well as well atmosphere. Comparing to other ramen shops in Halifax this is the most Japanese compared to the Chinese and Thai run establishments. Also the ramen noodles were very good as well as the chashu (pork). However the soup was weak. Ive lived in Japan for 8 years and ramen was my food of choice so Ive eaten a lot.Visited again after some time and still disappointed. If this shop was in Japan it would be closed for business after the first lunch rush. Im sorry but if your going to portray yourself as as Japanese. Make the quality food it should be.

Ive had food here multiple times. It used to be great. Last time I ordered there were key items from my order missing, and I am pretty certain the mussels were bad. The shrimp had not be deveined. It was shocking

My wife and I ordered the tonkotsu ramen, miso ramen, and the veggie croquettes. The meal was overall meh. We usually order from another ramen place closer to our home but in the hospital right now so we had to order from here.Tonkotsu: the egg was cooked perfectly but not marinated, but everything else was frankly barely OK. The broth had little flavour compared to our regular place. The pork wasn’t marinated, or barely so, and was pretty flavourless as well.Miso ramen: nowhere on Uber did it say that it was spicy, but it was quite spicy. No option to choose different spice levels either. Poor management of their Uber descriptions and options. My wife doesn’t like spicy and therefore chose not to eat it.Croquettes: meh. Just little potato rounds deep fried with an extremely tangy bbq sauce.Overall unimpressed and likely won’t order again.

A must go during winter time for our family. The soup is milky and rich. The meat is super tender, and the favour is unforgettable. We come back here so many time and still enjoy all the meals so much.

Having lived in Japan I can honestly say this is delicious authentic ramen. I would definitely eat here again.

I really liked the staff were attentive and quick service was provided. Had great meal loved the ramen and sweet edamame beans. They have limited menu but still have gluten free options. Although I find its bit pricy, I would still visit again.

First time dining at Buta Ramen, and first time ever having Ramen. I ordered the Nagasaki Champion, and my partner had the Tantanmen. To start we had the Chicken Karaage. All of it was amazing, so good! The atmosphere was cute and cozy. All of the staff members who served us were friendly, fast, and knowledgeable. The food came out lightening quick and it was busy! Will definitely be back again!

Great ramen place! The noodles are absolutely lovely, just the right amount of chew with lovely broth and inclusions. Clean stylish, affordable, and great quality food. I loved the selection of vegetarian options.Great for a quick lunch or a lovely date night. Warms the heart in the cold weather.

Strike one: Nagasaki Champon here is actually a “jjampong”, which is entirely misleading, but not surprising since there are Korean items on the menu, and even the server said “here’s your jjampong”. Strike two: service questionable. Ordered cold sake, server forgot and was reminded, and was brought to us hot. House sake: good value. Avoid outrageously priced bottled sake.

Good portion, different appetizer options, and availability to choose noodle type and spice level. I ordered the tonkatsu ramen, the vegetable croquette, and the chicken karrage. The tonkatsu in the ramen is so soft and melt in your mouth. The karrage had a different coating than we were familiar with, but it was still good. The veggie croquette was cooked perfectly with a slight crispiness on the outside and really soft and warm centre. The service was prompt and the server checked up on us and topped off our water frequently. Definitely my go-to place for ramen in the city.

First time dining in the restaurant, really enjoyed the ubereats experience - hence the visit with a friend. Good portion and loved the optional add ins (pickled ginger, garlic chips and chili oil)! Definitely added texture, taste and depth of flavour.

Came here with last minute reservation. Even though they were busy, they were doing their best to accomodate us, which i found really lovely. Great service.The food was great, the soup got a bitter after-taste after a while, but nothing serious. I liked the vibe of the place. Great experience overall :perfect if you have a sudden urge of ramen

Not good. Eggs were not marinated eggs, but plain old hard boiled eggs I could have cooked myself, the broth tasted like water, the meat was all fat (despite requesting less fat meat), and the noodles were gummy. We were so disappointed! We could have made something better at home. UberEats refunded our money, thankfully.

Excellent vegetarian ramen! The broth tastes great, and is quite flavourful on its own, which is hard to find in vegetarian ramen. Theres plenty of vegetables and toppings, so it feels like a healthy, yet filling meal by the end of it. Buta is also kind enough to provide full transparency into what goes into this ramen, which is very appreciated! My favourite part was the crispy squash and the delicious noodles. 🍜

Lovely experience. Server was extremely kind to respond to our questions, was prompt with water and we got our food very fast. Pictured is the vege ramen with curly noodles. Great food, great service, great time. Highly recommend if you are looking for ramen in Halifax.

First time I ate here. I got the Tonkotsu Ramen, hubby had Nagasaki Ramen. We also ordered tako yaki. Tako yaki was great. The chashu and egg for the tonkotsu was great.I tried hubby’s Nagasaki Ramen, I love seafood but I didn’t really like it on this one (personal preferencehubby is okay with it and one of my friends recommended it as well.Serving was generous and very filling. 😊👍🏻

Buta Ramen has a relatively small menu, but what they focus on they do very well.I had the Tonkatsu ramen with wavy noodles and some chili oil (the spicy brothand it was deliciously creamy without being dull. There were enough flavours there to brighten up and create a well balanced dish.Price point is reasonable. They appear to do a roaring takeout trade, though I am sure many are during this pandemic. The dining room is small-ish, but attractive. Its a bright space.Our server was fantastic - they were attentive, polite, and bubbly.P. S. I like the rollup garage door and Im sure that its even more fun in warmer weather. 🤣

We went here a couple weeks ago when we had a craving for ramen. All of us ordered the spicy ground pork ramen, and two of us had it “extra spicy”. It is quite spicy to start, so unless you like it really spicy, no need to add more! It was good, not my favorite of all time, but hit the spot. We also ordered the karage chicken and karage squid. The squid was so-so for flavour, but karage chicken was awesome and had a different coating on it than I have had before. Portions and prices are great! They have Sapporo on tap, which was a great addition. The atmosphere and service were 5 stars- everything was served quick! They have a really cool open garage door they can open. Will be back again!

The ramen was delicious as always. We love coming here. I would love to try the chicken ramen, however its always listed as sold out, which is very disappointing. It should be removed from the menu if its no longer an available menu item. We had to ask our waitress more than once for water, other than that, our service was good.

Loved my time here. Was afraid hot day would make ramen too much, but theyre open late and had cool air.Amazing service - cant remember the last time a bowl of noodles has come out so fast, let alone with the karaage alongside. Sounded like staff was enjoying themselves, environment was upbeat and fun.The bowl I had was tantanmen, a little spicy but delightful. Had a stronger sesame taste than I expected, a hint of bamboo, and spicy ground meat to drop the umami bomb. Fried calamari was the best Ive ever had, but maybe I have a low bar? Just a delight. Its been so long since I sat down and had a nice filling noodle soup.Would recommend to anyone looking for an izakaya experience. Will return.

Some of the best tasting ramen in Halifax and great presentation, the only reason I don’t give 5 stars is because it took quite a while to come out after we ordered and it was slightly on the pricier side. Great place for a nice date or night out.

We love ramen and have tried just about everywhere in the city. This is the best we have had. It is always fresh and flavorful, we have done back with 2 other groups so they could try the food. Ive had 2 different pork Ramen and the wife has had the vegies and the pro ones. They are all delicious, the vegies ramen has been the favorite for vegi of all the ones she has had around town.The staff have also always been great, friendly and efficient. The food comes out quick, water ia refilled quick which is nice as I always get extra spicy.

Absolutely excellent food. Ive been quite a number of times and have never been disappointed. The staff is great if youre there with first-timers who are new to the Japanese ramen experience and theyll happily answer any questions. To those accustomed to the place, going in and ordering a quick bowl to eat and enjoy quickly is just as nice of an experience as well. Ive personally never had a wait here, and if Im downtown and am feeling hungry this will always be one of my first choices!

Hands down the best ramen Ive had in Nova Scotia (and Ive been to quite a few restaurants). The broth is rich, the meat is tender and the noodles have a great chew. The Tako Yaki was surprisingly delicious. Im definitely going back to try more things.

The best ramen you can find in Halifax. They are consistent and never disappoints! We always enjoy their appetizers and seafood ramen.

Really great spot, very affordable Raman is somewhere in the range of $12 - $20 which is amazing for the downtown location.I gave 4 stars I believe this is a respectable rating. I am not a ramen expert so until I can compare it to something they 4 😀.Staff is very friendly food is amazing. This place is a gem.

Personally, i am a fan of ramen, so i am more critical of my reviews. Nice place. Decore looks good. Had the takoyaki and tonkotsu ramen. The takoyakis presentation is good and the same with the flavour. Had the tonkotus ramen. It did not stand out as much as expected. The broths flavour tasts relatively dull or weak. The semi boiled egg is cooked right, but it still seems off from what im used to. The noodles are good and. The tonkotsu itself is cooked good, but again the flavour is lacking. The staff is quite speedy and attentive.
