Burmese food in a casual, high-ceilinged restaurant adorned with photos, art and hanging birdcages.
Insta: melbfoodie_markYT: MelbFoodieMark** Check them out for more food reviews in Melbourne!-Got 50% off on 8-Course Set Menu through theFork! Didnt get a chance to visit its well-known sister-restaurant Red Spice Road yet but no doubt its just as good if not better. The ambience was impeccable especially with this beautiful painting on the wall and service was friendly and prompt. All the dishes were tasty - full of flavour but not overpowering to the point where ingredients lose their tastes. Shan Tofu, Lamb Shank Curry, and Caramelised Pork Belly stood out out of all. Pork Belly was crispy outside but succulent inside and lamb shank was so soft that it fell apart as I dug my fork into it. Went wonderfully well with rice!My personal favourite was surprisingly Shan Tofu - never knew tofu could taste like that. It had this distinctive herby starchy flavour which was very addicting. Only thing I didnt like about the set menu was Chai Panna Cotta - not that it tasted bad but just not a fan of its pudding-like texture. Overall, with 50% off deal- definitely worth it!
Couldn’t recommend more highly! Service and food were fantastic. Highly recommend the pork belly and chocolate sphere dessert. Very happy customers
We enjoyed delicious food on the luncheon sharing plate at Burma Lane today. Each portion was so individually different and with delightful flavoursThe staff were very competent and friendly, especially Claudio who was extremely helpful and friendly. Can highly recommend if wanting to spend a pleasant couple of hours in the quieter end of Lt. Collins St. Yvonne and Suzanne
Super service and clean flavours. Each dish was unique enough to make it very memorable. I have had better cheeseburger spring rolls but everything was enjoyable
Went here on a surprisingly quiet Valentines Day. I guess they wanted everyone to choose their tasting menu, which we didnt fancy. We ordered from a la carte and the service was shambolic. Long waits, meals not served together, etc. Even getting a bottle of wine took three requests. Really not great from a place that claims better.
Burma Lane is offering bottomless brunch every Saturday from 12pm-2pm, and of course I had to try it. Unlimited boozy refreshments? I’m in! Choose from mimosa, prosecco, red or white wine, or go all the way with the luxury package that includes Louis Roederer champagne. As part of the bottomless brunch menu, you’ll get two entrees, two mains and two salads to go with your alcohol-fuelled lunch. The wagyu cheeseburger spring rolls was such a treat to eat – crisped and did indeed oozed the meaty and cheesy taste of a cheeseburger within. The betel leaf with barramundi and chillies acted as a palate cleanser, light and refreshing. For the mains, we had the beef curry and the famous five spice pork belly. Having had the pork belly at their sister restaurant before, it is just as amazing as I remembered. Sticky, sweet and smoky, with tender chunks of pork belly with crisped skin, this will blow your mind. The salads were a bit light on flavour, and the stars of the meal were definitely the mains.
A top quality Modern Australian Asian Fusion food. My top pick is their pork belly! Crispy and delicious through and through. Their biggest let down was their chicken curry which was no different than a street side food store. But hey, still good!
Interesting 8-dish menu with the exception of the turkey spring rolls, presumably an attempt at an Xmas twist, but a failure. Wine recommendation was excellent. Tables too small for the amount of food they serve at once, should have thought that through! Another annoyance was charging us for two bottles of water after replacing one which wasnt empty with a full one we didnt ask for.
Meat donut was over cook with bad oil, servings were small but service was ok.
Apetizer are very nice, Main couse we had pork belly, pork was dry otherwise will be a great meal.
We had this set menu for $72. For $72, the food was underwhelming, in the sense that in a group of 7, we were all still hungry after the menu, which says something about the serving size and pricing, because I could have gotten stuffed on $72. (Especially because the menu was called Shut Up and Feed Me. Feed us you did not.)Tofu was salty, barramundi was ok, ribs were tiny and not chili, the taco shell was really nice, pork belly was the only course with a decent serving size, beef brisket was good, mango salad was good but probably a bit too sour and the pannacotta was different and enjoyable.Wouldnt go back again, thank goodness we had a voucher.
Very nice good, luv the pork belly and the short ribs with bao is to die for. You may want to make a reservation. We were lucky to get a table for four.....

The food was average here. I was really looking forward to the pork belly, but it was a bit tough. I would say the eggplant salad was my favourite. Food was surprisingly filling.
Had work lunch celebration at this establishment. Work shouted of course. Food was ordered before I arrive. Was a very pleasant experience, food was delicious, a mix of tang and Asian inspired fusion. Tasty and not too heavy. Decor was clean and very chic. A place I would go take my wife on a fancy date.
Went for a birthday and didnt think much of the menu, that was until we got there and actually tasted the food. What it lacks in quantity it makes up for in quality.Every dish we had was delicious and the staff were so friendly and accommodating.Left the place fit too burst and extremely happy, would recommend.
Excellent fusion of foods with amazing taste to match. Presentation of the food and restaurant is also very beautiful. The wine and cocktail list both have terrific options. The service was very attentive. Nothing to fault about this place. My highlights were the duck doughnuts and pork belly.
Food was delicious and the menu was creative. One of the interesting dishes on the menu was the cheeseburger spring rolls. Other stand out dishes were the chicken wings, beef ribs and the chai pannacotta.
Loved the dinner experience. Food was delicious, and service was good. Recommend the chocolate dessert, squid, and beef ribs. The place is cozy too.
Burma lane is a fantastic modern Melbourne restaurant with food inspiration from around the world. Located in an iconic Melbourne laneway it really is a hidden gem. Food was delicious, priced mid-high end. The five spice pork belly is a real standout. The cocktails are fantastic, we made our way though majority of the list with each being better than the last. Well worth a visit.
Went there for a work lunch. Food was so good, had to extend lunch and order dessert. The lamb was so tasty, so soft & juicy! The chocolate ball with coconut filling was just mind blowing. A bit pricey but so worth it!
Fantastic tasting menu. Love the unique taste and welcoming service here 🥰
Good food, friendly staff, nice ambiance... We had the lunch pack (or something similarand its a bunch of things from entrees, mains and desserts. Being in Melb. CBD, parking is a nightmare but if you work around here that shouldnt be a problem so make sure you check it out! (Updated photos of the wrong restaurant and Google is doing its best to keep the wrong photos online 😆)
We went for lunch today and enjoyed all our dishes . The service was good our order did get forgotten but it didn’t matter. We will definitely return next time
Had the duck and shitake donuts and beef shortrib bao. Yum. Food was amazing!
Ate here over the weekend. The food was amazing with a nice twist on staple Asian foods. I loved the cheeseburger spring rolls and the duck donut! Staff were fantastic and attentive. I would definitely come here again.
Very original fusion food with Asian influence. Waiters very kind and very nice decoration. They also have vegetarian dishes very tasty
Normally I go to their sister restaurant “Red Spice Road” Finally I went last week and tried their “Shut Up and Feed Me” banquet menu, 8 courses plus dessert. I was actually pretty full after that. Love the chicken wings, corn salads, curry chicken, pork belly, tofu, duck doughnut, can’t remember what else:The dessert was tasty too, Vietnamese coffee with semi freddo pistachio crumble. Don’t forget to try the cocktails .. The place and services are amazing.
Burma Lane is opened by the guys from Red Spice Road and they have Monday specials which was I think buy one get one free on the set menus. We went on Monday, not knowing that there is actually on special, but they still gave us the special which is nice of them!We got the linger longer lunch set, which includes 2 entrees and 4 shared mains for two people. The entrees came which was tofu and chicken wings. The Shan tofu w tomato, radish and peanut was a bit too sour for my liking, but the chicken wing was nice, though I didn’t really think it had a huge Smokey flavour, it was more sweet than anything. The mains came and they have the Red Spice Road favourite pork belly, but it only came in two blocks (one for each person). I wish they give me one less mains so I can have more pork belly because that was good. The wok tossed veggies were ok, but it’s something I could probably make at home so I am not incredibly excited by it.The chicken curry didn’t have a lot of punchy flavours and the chicken was a bit dry.The salad had lots of crunchy stuff in it... I like crunchy normally but this is way too crunchy for me.Overall I think the flavour profiles and textures is not for me. I would rather go back to Red Spice Road.
Loved it here, had the feed me menu which is honestly almost too much food. The chicken wings are sublime, Smokey and a little hot, not too much, but enough to impart the desired flavour. A sister restaurant to Red Spice Road on McHillop st. It adheres to the same quality excellence aesthetic. I have not had a bad meal here and would highly recommend anyone give it a try, especially as it does not have the biggest frontage.
tasty menu, friendly staff, nicely presented, enjoy a lot
Amazing service! We came in a rather difficult group...1 peskatarian2 who couldnt eat pork1 shelfish allergyThey had a substitute for every dish and were very understanding! The food was fantastic well worth it!Thanks for being so accommodating.
The banquet was 9 courses of different meals in smaller portions that were exceptional in taste & textures. Entrees came out quickly & service was by friendly staff. Pork belly & ocean trout was delicious
Weve always enjoyed dining here even though we hadnt been back for awhile, so it was an easy choice to bring some overseas guests here. They now have set menus that can cater for dietary requirements and my friends chose the "Shut Up and Feed Me" option. In no time the first of four rounds arrived. Every dish was a taste sensation with abundant flavours and complementary textures. Locally sourced ingredients were used to produce an interpretation of the Burmese cuisine. The highlights were the smoked chicken wings, pork belly and papaya salad, finished off with a fabulous passionfruit semi-freddo. The chicken was a bit overcooked for my liking. Generous serves ensured we waddled out with full bellies. With a classy and quiet atmosphere, its a comfortable setting to enjoy a longer dinner conversation. Service was helpful and attentive throughout the visit. Attention to detail and a little less clanging during the crockery changeover wouldve netted the 5 but it was still a great experience.
Loved it. Great staff and delicious food. We got the Feed me menu (the larger oneand there wasnt a dish I didnt loke. Ill be going back again and again!
Excellent restaurant.Food is delicious, and exceeded my expectations (and I am a big fan of red spice road). Its smaller and quieter than red spice road, which I found very enjoyable.Very helpful staff, who did an amazing job matching wines to our meals, really made our night.
Wife and I dined for our date night, taking advantage 2-4-1 feed me banquet deal. Fantastic value, but just as importantly food was to an excellent standard. Had to full range from variety of starters, mains and dessert. Five Spice Pork belly always scrumptious (but sorry Red Spice Road dies my favourite). Beef brisket and lamb curry, compliment each other nicely with an assortment of tastes from sweet, slightly spicy, to tart. Some would expect and prefer lamb curry to be spicier. Very nice decor with Street art Ode to Burma and trendy high ceilings.
This was recommended by a colleague for a group dinner, and it turned out to be a great experience. We all had the $85 set tasting menu and it was an inspired decision - the food was delectable and was just the right quantities - 4 starters, 4 mains and 1 dessert per person, with each serve consisting of 1 or 2 pieces per person. I wouldnt call their food Burmese, or Asian or ethnic of any kind. It was pure culinary genius.
Very satisfying meal served by friendly and knowledgeable staff. We had a banquet which consisted of a series of small dishes that added to to a very good sized meal. They were also very willing and able to substitute some dishes based on dietary preferences. The desserts were also very tasty and the off-menu affogato pictured was spectacularly delivered.
Simply Amazing Food - asian influence but with a thoughtful twist - The staff are amazing, the Sommelier is really engaging, knowledgable and adds an extra dimension to the dinning experience.Just go - ask them to Feed you and get the Som to match some wines and you will not be disappointed.
Superb dining experience. Dining in the Dark, an opportunity to use one less of our senses to determine what the secret ingredient is before we eat the dish.Staff were super attentive. Bravo!
This restaurant is part of the group that also owns Red Spice Road in QV and Mckillop St. Although the name suggests Burmese food, it actually serves similar style of Asian food like the Red Spice Road (westernised Asian food). The wings are pretty good. The pork belly is good but Red Spice Roads is better in my opinion.Food - 7Service - 7Vibe - 8Price - $$$$
Delicious food, like the surroundings too. I recommend the spatchcock main meal!
Very friendly and unpretentious service, good ambience, well thought-out menu with a variety of south-east Asian influences. They also served Lion Stout which is one of my favourite beers, so kudos! In any other city this would be a top restaurant but South-East Asian fusion with a modern twist is a crowded space in Melbourne and the execution of the dishes doesnt stand up against the Melbourne greats (without naming names). I would still recommend you try this restaurant out and decide for yourself.
Soooo goood! Really great service and deliciously fresh food - to start we had the duck, shitake & water chestnut doughnut (wow!cumin lamb potato cakes and the Wagyu cheeseburger bacon dumplings (must try!). Mains were five-spice pork belly (best Ive EVER hadand the lamb shoulder (also really good). We had to try the dessert, even though we were stuffed at this point - so tried the gooey dark chocolate cake with hint of chilli and passionfruit icecream which was surprisingly light! They also have a cocktail and mocktail specially for Breast Cancer month (Octoberwhich theyll donate the profits too. Ill definitely be back here!
Lovely food and service. We had a lovely meal with plenty of food for two people. The pork belly was amazing, especially with the red vinegar. The tea leaf salad was good. However, it could do with more tea leaf. I think the staff tonight was quite confused to have a request to have more tea leaf haha. All in all a lovely night out.
Food was good but salty. Favorite dishes were Nori pasta and smoked eel potato cake. One of many Asian fusion restaurant in Melbourne.
Italian Burmese fusion. Nori noodles: nori fettuccine with squid and nori flakes -- tasty, definitely worth a try!
Beautiful food but the highlight was the exceptional service. We were in a big group with a couple of dietary requirements and they accommodated us easily, we never felt like it was any trouble and everyone was raving about the food. Decent drinks list too.
Based on the weekday lunch menu. Id say the food was priced right. Certainly imaginative flavour combinations, be prepared for a bit of zing in your meal. The service was attentive without being overbearing. Staff were happy to explain dishes. Food came out promptly (important at lunchtime). Coffee was not to my liking, but you arent there for coffee : Importantly you can actually talk to someone without being drowned out in reflected noise.
