Unique Albanian history museum inside a preserved, Communist-era nuclear pit bunker.
Absolutely fascinating museum about the communist era of Albania with such a unique and interesting bunker setting. It is very informative with all signs in both Albanian and English. A lot of the information is very shocking and sad, but it is definitely worth learning about. It is quite hot and narrow in the bunker, so try to visit early morning or late afternoon, but it is an absolute must for any visitor to the city
Great museum about horrible things that happened in this beautiful country. Very authentic. We highly recommend to visit.
I really recommend to visit this place, well organized, a good opportuntity to learn something more on the Albanian History of the last century. Please be aware to download the app before going in. The wifi doesnt work well and there is no signal in
This underground structure is a haunting and somewhat oppressive display detailing the pain and suffering of the Albanian people under generations of control and abuse. You can see it all in an hour, or spend all day reading and watching detailed historical displays in several languages.
One of the places to get to know the history of Albania. A bit creepy
Museum in remembrance to those who suffered during the period of communist rule in Albania. Many civilians and political activists were tortured and died in this bunker. Wifi is available but possibly doesnt work. Theres an entrance fee which is not very expensive however they dont accept credit cards for payment, ONLy CASH.
If you dont know much about albanian history you should definitely go there.Overall i can say BunkArt 1, a bit more outside the city, was better. If you want to visit both (there is a combined ticketgo first to BunkArt 1 and after that to BunkArt 2.The exhibitions you can see here are well made, good arranged and in good condition. If its crowded it can get really cramped inside the hallways, which was not so nice. The price was 500 Lek in September 2022, the combined ticket for both museums was 800 Lek.
Fascinating history on the craziness that went on in Albania during communist times. The exhibits were very heartbreaking. It was very hot inside though.
If you visit Tirana don’t miss to visit that wonderful piece of country’s history.Very well structured museum, clean, while they provided you with so many and interesting info.Highly recommended
Some of the exhibits feel slightly dated and the material is incredibly gruelling. That said, Bunk Art 2 offers engaging and comprehensive insights into Albanias troubled history. The bunker itself helps to evoke the suffocating atmosphere of communist rule.
The location is exciting...but the information given in the first half was very dull to me. In addition, translations seem to be from google translate (or some worse websiteand are very annoying to read. The best thing to me was probably the one interview they showed from a former prisoner...but you can watch many more interviews in the museum of leaves. Which i liked more.
Great experience. At least u Need 2/3 hours to visit It All.Museum Is made of four paths: the First Is All about albanian military forces history. The second is all about the cold war period. The 3rd and 4th are reconstructions of prisons and settings of bunker in its own time.Comunists Heaven 🟥
Good and informative museum in the city centre of Tirana! It was very hot and a lot of people when we went there in August, came out soaked in sweat. But a good experience and a very cool bunker. Good information in english. We did not use the Bunker App or headphones but got a lot of info just from reading the information boards in the rooms.Bigger then i thought and many cool rooms. The coolest rooms were the meeting room and the leaders bedroom which had wooden walls and floors!
Great exhibition, well organized, a good opportuntity to learn something more on the Albanian History of the last century. Please be aware to download the app before going in. The wifi doesnt work well and there is no signal in
You can buy tickets for both bunkers in Bunkart 1. The tickets are available for 72hours. So we visited Bunkart 1 (it was closer to our placeand then, in the evening, we went to Bunkart 2. Its located in the center of Tirana. It was very crowded, its smaller. There was a problem with ventilation and it was very humid inside. Overall we liked Bunkart 1 much more, its really impressive.
Bunk art 1 so much better if you can get out of town to visit. No2 had no air con and was like a sauna. Overcrowded
Incredible interesting museum for Albanian history.A must-go if you are in Tirana!Download the BunkArt App so you can use the augmented reality experience too. Pretty cool.
A brilliant museum with the history and stories of Albania. But its tiny down there and was completely rammed and extremely hot so I would avoid going at peak times
Great place to Experience the history of Albania and Tirana. BunkerArt part one is much better.
Make sure you get your ticket for both Bunk’art, it’s a good deal and they have different items. This one looses a star though for feeling too crowded and the AR features not working. Interesting site though and polite staff.
Good place to learn more about the history of albania. Well details and the art installations were very good. You can get ticket for two bunks with a discount. Recommended
Museum contained within an underground bunker with a lot of history from the 1920s until 1991 when Albania became a democratic country. Youll find explanations both in Albanian and English about World War 2, the comunist times, etc. There are also visual/audio installations and artifacts and other objects from all that period. The ticket is 500 Lek (€4.5for an adult and it should take you around 1 h to visit it all. This is called BunkArt 2 because the main BunkArt is on the outskirts of the city. Even if the main BunkArt is larger and offers a broader exhibition, you will reach BunkArt 2 on foot if you are staying in Tirana downtown, so it is pretty convinient!
Even thou the name includes word “art”, you won’t find any art. 🤣 It’s one of the most interesting museums. Something unexpected and informative. Also they managed to create an interesting athmosphere in every room.
An interesting 1-hour activity if you are curious about history (mainly military history). The imagery and props accompanying the explanations were very significant and telling. Only negative point is that the storyline doesn’t always follow a clear timeline. But overall we liked it. 500 lek for a person (pay in cash).
You think you escape the heat but you just end up in a history museum focused on war things. 1/20 of it is art so I would call it Bunk’History, and only about the gendarmerie, so maybe even Bunk’Gendarmerie. I’ve visited cooler bunkers but 😊
I was expecting something more larger. The whole place is just a 4 rows with circa 20 rooms with expositions.
One of the most unforgettable museum I have visited. Once again you will see how politicians ruined of thousands of peoples life and how much can humanbeings be cruel. Try to visit there in the morning when its not very crowded otherwise its not easy to move in the corridor since its very narrow.
This museum offers an introduction to the history of Albania of the 20th century regarding the political affairs and formation of the police and the injustices committed by the dictatorship under the iron fist of Hoxha. If you take the time to read all descriptions, itll take you around 2 hrs. Dont forget to bring some water because in the summer time it can get quite humid and warm down there. They could invest a bit more money and make it more interactive for all visitors e.g. they have a table where youre asked to find the "bug" (spying microphonein a table but after 5 minutes of not finding it, I and some other tourists just gave up. Its worth visiting if youre interested on learning a bit more about the political history during the 20th century of Albania
Love this museum! Very abundant information provided in both English and Albanian, vividly describes the history that shouldnt be forgotten. This is probably the first museum that I want to read all the words, so fascinating! Highly recommended.
Very well done! Wish my country had something similar. I recommend the visit. Very unique museum with so much history and explanations of the past. This place needs time cant be rushed. We didnt read everything is a very big place.
Very interesting and informative exhibition. Ive learned a lot about Albanian history. The only thing I was missing is the option to pay by card for the tickets.
Incredible experience! A very nice place to know more about the history of Albania with more than just pictures and text. You can really feel the tension of those dictatorship days, where people were persecuted and manipulated by the government. A must visit when coming to Tirana
It is a great place to learn more about history of Albania and Tirana. If you visit Tirana don’t forget to visit Bunkart 2.
A great bunker, describing a very sad history of Albanian people after the second workd war.
Very interesting exhibition with a lot of information about the Albanian history, readable in English too.Euro is accepted in the ticket office.
Beautiful place, although smaller than BunkArt 1 worth the visit and learn about the history
Nice Museum, all situated within a big bunker in the center of tirana. has aircon and one can stay there for 40-60 minutes.Entrance Fee is 500LEK
As an introduction to Albanian history, I found this museum a little bit strange. It does not necessarily cover the basics of the communist era, but it dives deeply into some of the specifics (I.e. the changing bureaucratic structure of the police force over time). If you have more time, I would recommend visiting BunkArt 1 instead, for a better overview of Albania’s recent history. However, it’s very interesting to go inside a bunker, and some of the terrible English translations on the signs made me laugh a lot.
A museum underground in a bunker. With an app that provides commentary and video footage, there are also films on display in some rooms (that are very impressive). Communism left its impression on Albania and this museum is dedicated to that. A must see if youre travelling to or through Albania.
Interesting museum in a bunker mostly dedicated to the secret police of the communist regime, with some creative exhibits. The beginning of the exhibition covers the history of police forces in Albania, and might be going in too much details for foreigners. Not as good as the (excellentoriginal BunkArt, however it is so conveniently located that itd be a shame to miss it
Really informative about the history of Albania, but actually really depressing for me. I didn’t like the energy or mood here. I just wanted to get out as soon as I could. Some of the information signs are very graphic, so if are bring children, make sure you walk into the room before they do. They were too graphic for me.
One of the key attractions in central Tirana- a bunker from communist time with exposition of history of Albania as from its independence in 1913 with lots of attention to communist time.
Bunkart is popular museum in Tirana, there are 2 of them. One is next to main square and second one little bit faraway from the city. You will learn about the history with interactive way. The price is around 5e. If you are in Tirana - highly recommend.
The Bunker entrance costs 500 Lek if you want to discover by yourself. They offer a guide for 1000 Lek more. The exhibition shows how the communist regime failed. It’s a gloomy and scary atmosphere with sounds and film. The Bunker have lots of rooms where you can go and see some parts of the revolution but also the bedroom of the minister.
An admirable attempt to grapple with the difficult questions and the painful history of Albania. As someone from Latvia, a country occupied by the Soviet Union for 50 years, I recognise the effort and a certain type of bravery these conversations demand of us today - dealing with external enemies and trespassers against us is one thing, dealing with collaborators, enforcers and pure evil from your own midst is another. But when we confront the past head on, without any excuses or romanticisation, we are set free.I have to be honest, the inclusion of Albania’s pre-Hoxha history was a tad confusing and did not seem to fit the context of the whole exhibition, especially since the bunker and its exhibition is promoted as one solely connected to the communist era. What really hit home and served as the main message delivered to me as a visitor? Dont forget the horrors that authoritarianism brings. And beware.
A museum built inside a bunker, a really good idea to use old bunkers to show history. 500 lek and worth visiting. A huge place with a lot of rooms, prepare yourself for a long journey.
Very interesting museum, 600LEK the ticket/person. We thought it will be cool down, but the place was really hot.
Its a museum which reconstructs the history of the Albanian Ministry of Internal Affairs from 1912 to 1991 and reveals the secrets of “Sigurimi”, the political police that was the harsh persecution weapon used by the regime of Enver Hoxha. Victims of communist terror video is showcased at the museum. Good representation of how the things were at war. I liked the sounds that are produced underground like siren, solders marching etc. Guns of those times. Must visit if you are in Tirana. Cost of visiting is 500lek.
Really interesting look at Albanias history. Take the time to watch the videos where prison survivors talk about their experiences. Definitely recommend going here
For me this is the best thing to do in Tirana and should not be missed if you are there. It shows the history of Albania and the things happened during the communism time. Entrance fees 500 LEK.
