Whitewashed brick dining room for an innovative and seasonal Modern British selection.
The best fine dining experience ever, cannot recommend enough. Superb food and service
Service was unbelievable and food very good. Highly recommended.
My loyal slaves and I dined here today in honour of Her Majesty the Queen, may she R.I.P. The service was excellent and the food delicious. A classy and elegant dining establishment, one cannot believe its in Bristol!
Incredible lunch here today. Our waiter was enthusiastic and knowledgeable and overall the atmosphere was so welcoming for a restaurant serving food of such a high standard. Go.
My husband and I spent a beautiful afternoon at Bulrush celebrating our anniversary. We experienced the most fantastic flavours from their tasting menu. From the moment we entered the restaurant the staff were very friendly and polite. They gave us just the right amount personal space without being offish and stuffy which we have experienced in other restaurants. They also gave us a complimentary drink to get the celebration off to a good start. I know its best to point our both pros and cons but in all sincerity I will have to dig dip to find a con. Every mouthful set my taste buds fluttering and especially the Orkney scallop. The Montgomery Cheddar on sourdough which the waiter described as a type of welch rarebit was like no cheese on toast Ive ever experienced. To sum up a wonderful experience from start to finish. Looking forward to visiting Bulrush again.
My Gosh, what an amazing experience! We loved every single dish they served. 10/10 experience. The team members are very informative and friendly. Would definitely come back! You need to book beforehand. I managed to get a seat D-1 before coming, so not too hard!
Amazing food - so different, absolutely outstanding. The ambience was also lovely and cosy. Will definitely come back
Easily the best lunch Ive ever had. The food was absolutely astounding and you can tell that thought and care went into every single dish. The staff was incredibly friendly and helpful. The desserts were PHENOMENAL and I couldve kept eating them all day (despite how full I was!). I definitely recommend Bulrush.
First time for me and what an experience, amazing service, even more amazing food and great surroundings, I loved it so much I’d prefer if people would book elsewhere, just so I can get another reservation! Without a doubt I’ll be going back and I highly recommend this restaurant
Booking is essential and can be done online.Unusual ingredients listed on the menu which should not put you off.The smells, sauces and the dishes were delicious. All the serving staff were very friendly and knowledgeable and I was able to watch the open plan kitchen from my table.Very enjoyable meal and I will be returning in the future.
The food was very tasty, but the atmosphere upstairs was terrible and 4.5 hours was far too long. We waited 45mins for one course.
Very classy taster meal of luxuriously created and presented food. Definitely a foodie experience to go for. Even the coffee and petit fours were amazing.
I really enjoyed my experience in this one star Michelin restaurant! The thing that made the difference is the service offered there. The staff is really professional and prepared to explain every dish in details, friendly and happy to help! I would have given one star less if it wasnt for them.I liked the dishes composition and presentation, not all the dishes were to my taste, but this is understandable as the flavours you find here are really different than the ones you are used to have in your daily routine. The only thing that I didnt really like was the position of my table, as it was really close to the door and really uncomfortable when people were entering or leaving the restaurant!!! There shouldnt be a table there at all! Other than that I found that the restaurant needed a bit more of cleaning to maintain the standards of a Michelin star restaurant! The bottles and jars around the restaurant were full of dust! I dont suggest to have the supplement as the truffle was tasteless! And doesnt fit the standards! Overall I would definitely recommend the experience!!!
So innovative and of the chart delicious. The food is so thoughtful and the staff really passionate about all they do, from foraging to serving the place is like visiting an eccentric and wildly clever friend.Bulrush is in my top 5 of best Bristol restaurants for all the reasons above and I know the next time I visit it will surprise me with something else to add to the list
Its going to be hard to sum up the experience we had last night. The Food was exceptional, service impeccable, and the drink pairing divine! Will be a long time before we forget the night we spent at Bulrush. If your thinking of booking allow upto four hours and enjoy!!
Simply exquisite. Great range of textures and flavours on a beautifully balanced tasting menu. All was delightfully presented by friendly and knowledgeable staff. Lovely wine list too with a great selection of English wines
The food was amazing, even down to the cheese on sourdough bread. Each course had there own unique and interesting flavours. Would definitely recommend this food experience!
It was absolutely fabulous. The dishes looked amazing and the combination of flavours was great and often quite adventurous.I see some comments complaining about couple of dishes here and there. I think it would be almost impossible for everyone to love the flavours of all 9+ dishes as theyre so different but Im glad that theyre taking risk with some of them because it makes it interesting. I never knew that macarons and duck liver can go together so nicely. The staff are very friendly and I would 100% recommend this place to any foodie I know.
As veggies you are quite often an after thought, not at the bulrush! The absolute sorcery used to create the dishes blew our minds. The combination of flavours and textures was sublime and all of it done without a hint of meat anywhere. Staff were amazing and were really knowledgeable on all the dishes. The whole experience lasted about 4 hours as there were 10 dishes I believe, the staff didnt rush us and gave plenty of time between dishes. Cant fault the place.
Outstanding food and service. Tasting menu is very varied and they are very accommodating to dietary requirements.
Just outstanding! We absolutely adored every single dish and accompanying with the wine flight to match each course, its just perfect. The service was also amazing! Thank you George & your amazing team.
Incredible experience. I had the vegetarian menu while my husband had the meat/seafood. Every dish on both was heavenly. We lost track of how many wed had half way through, they just kept coming. You wont walk out hungry. Allow yourself four hours for this, they dont rush it but pace it well. Had a lovely Australian waiter who knew the food and wine menu back to front and was a delight. Highly recommend this place! (forgot to take more than three pictures as it was so delicious...)
Dont believe the hype. 3 of the courses were very average. The stout ice cream with dandelion and coffee sauce was outright disgusting. The chocolate petit four was also horrible. Wouldnt recommend or be back.Interior décor was boring, like being in someones living room. Not enough water pressure to get warm water out of the toilet tap.
Amazing dinner tonight, couldnt fault it from start to finish. 9 courses, all totally different in style, taste, texture and creativity. I can easily say Ive never eaten anything like I have tonight and if you want a totally memorable experience and something totally different you wont be disappointed.
A lovely meal, great service. Only thing I would say is we were in there for just over 4 hours which is just so long for a restaurant sitting - it was almost 15 minutes between each course of the tasting menu which left us itching to get up towards being there 3 hours and the seats become less comfy after that long. Otherwise, I wouldnt fault it - thanks for a nice lunch and hope this is constructive feedback
The best dining experience of my life - have been twice before and can’t wait to go again. The servers are also extremely lovely and I get all warm and fuzzy inside even thinking about Bulrush. Thank you!
First time eating for of this level, it was incredible plus for what it was good value. They also catered to our dietary requests well given the limited menu. Will definitely return for a treat again in the future.
Fantastic food at a very reasonable price. Very well portioned tasting menu; full but not overstuffed. Stand out dishes were the trout with smoked mussels, assortment of lamb (nibbly bits of heart and tongue 😋and the spruce ice cream with caramelised pinecone and sorrel.
Very high quality food, and an experience I highly recommend. However, budget your time wisely. The tasting menu takes about 4 hours to go through comfortably (there is about 30 minutes between dishes). We had to rush the staff after two hours had elapsed because we “only” had three to dedicate to the meal and make our train. They adapted kindly and we caught our train.
We visited last night for the second time and it was even better than our first visit in September 2020. We were especially delighted with the adorable and edible pinecone, as well as the crab and lime tart. The edible flowers included in several dishes were gorgeous and the overall care that goes into presentation made the food even more special. The waitress who attended to us, Carole, was very knowledgeable and attentive, going out of her way to provide exceptional service. The only thing we werent that keen on was the Peas, junket, English wasabi and horseradish but we still enjoyed the dish because it was so unlike anything wed have before. The pricing is very reasonable for such an amazing experience and we cant wait to visit again when the menu changes.
Exceptional tasting menu for 55£.
Attentive yet not too formal service, exceptional food. Really recommended
We absolutely loved it here! The staff are so so attentive and knowledgable. It’s a beautiful little restaurant with lots of character made for quite a romantic birthday treat. Duck macaron was my absolute favourite dish I have ever eaten. Chefs are amazing so clever! Dishes were actually quite big we were very full. Good value I think. We will deffo be back! Loved it!
We had an amazing dinner at Bulrush. We have eaten at so many restaurants but this must be one of the absolute best meals we have ever had in the UK. The service was impeccable; the right amount of friendliness, professionalism and privacy. The tasting menu was so good I couldnt believe it, every new dish that came in kept topping the others. It truly was an experience, one we would be happy to repeat again in the future.
We live nearby and finally made a reservation - so glad we did! Exceptional flavours and delighted by every course. I chose the vegetarian tasting menu as I am less adventurous with meats and my husband ordered the regular tasting menu; both menus were a culinary delight.
Delicious. Just took my parents for their first Michelin experience. Bulrush didnt disappoint. Innovative, interesting themes and flavours running through the tasting menu that really made for an enjoyable experience.Particularly enjoyed one of the opening bites - pigs trotter sponge
I had an absolutely fantastic evening celebrating my sisters birthday. Everything on the tasting menu was delicious, our close favourites being the gurnard and chickory marmalade, the chanterell and potato and, the pigs trotter sponge. Their home made lemonade was great.we were in awe at all of the beautiful tableware and presentations.I have no idea how they pack so many delicious flavours and textures in the dishes that blend together perfectly even if you wouldnt expect them to. The staff were all lovely and attentive and explained all the dishes and welcomed any feedback. It was a great experience and we are already planning to go again in the future.
Absolutely sublime food, wonderful service and ambience. We have gone for a family dinner and ended up having an unforgettable dining experience. Two of us went with vegetarian tasting menu and the other two with a regular (that is if you can actually call anything in this restaurant a "regular"))Our dinner in Bulrush was a journey through flavours and locally sourced ingredients of good, mainly British cuisine. Towards the end of the 12 small masterpiece dishes (11 plus 1 complimentary dishwe felt like we have been to heaven and back.Well spent time and worth every penny. We will definitely be back as soon as the new menu arrives.Thank you and see you soon!
Absolutely amazing place hidden away! Lovely staff, wonderful cooking without the try hard and pretentiousness. Never thought Miso could be dessert. The duck as cook to perfection.
Absolutely delicious! We had the 9 course vegetarian taster menu and every single course was amazing. Lots of variety of food and a great wine list to choose from to. Service was fantastic all night. It’s pricey but well worth it!
Very interesting tastes, at least 3 dishes from the tasting menu that were completely new to me. Upstairs lacks the charm of downstairs, which is a shame. Will visit again.
The food was divine and such an exciting journey for tastebuds. We went for the 8 course tasting menu with the matching flight of wine and the duck liver macaron was our favourite. Highly recommend this gem of a restaurant. The only negativity was, it was a bit noisy. At some point, I couldnt really hear what my partner was saying. Perhaps best to reduce the number of tables or change the music to classical/ instrumental, as its a small space.
In a small building that has housed a number of restaurants over the years we now have the excellent Bulrush. The decor is plain/rustic in this oddly shaped place. The waiting staff are efficient, very knowledgeable about their food dishes and really friendly. The menu, well, superb and excellent dish design of quality food, flavours and seasoning beautifully presented. Technically well prepared with attention paid to all aspects make for food you will want to recommend and a restaurant you will want to return to.Having tried the à la carte menu we found it so good we are returning for the tasting menu.Tasting menu: tried it - superb!!
Amazing imaginative menu! All the dishes has interesting and unexpected combination of ingredients that works really well together. We had the tasting menu that wasnt cheap (£60but was well worth the price!
Such a great dinner! Went on my partner’s 40th and the staff was so attentive, as a Michelin star every dish or suggestion was made with a description of ingredients. The waiting staff varied so safe to say this was general to restaurant. The atmosphere was lovely, including customers, as you would expect for this type of restaurant, price and food served. The interior and decoration is minimal with a very earthy feeling...if you want a flashy restaurant type to show off (wannabe stylethis is not for you.Menu: there are 2 options, the tasting menu £50pp and “à la carte” both with a just and appropriate variety of starters, main and deserts. Wine list was also varied and full of options, geographically and for tasting purposes. The presentation by Chef (combined with dinnerware usedwas excellent, as aí would expect. Quality was great and for the taste buds a much pleasant journey. Thank you for the evening, we will surely come back. Keep up the good work!
Quite often I leave restaurants underwhelmed, thinking I could have produced something similar at home for a fraction of the cost. Im happy to say that wasnt the case with Bulrush. This was poetry. Art. Theatre. Science... It was an experience for all the senses. Every minute detail was planned. The presentation, flavours and fusions were a feast for all the senses. Our tasting menu surpassed all expectations and I would wholeheartedly recommend this restaurant to anyone who allows food to be a defining factor in their life. Congratulations and thank you.
Sublime tasting menu, full of delicately balanced dishes. The service was attentive, if a little rushed. The wine flight complimented the menu perfectly. Black pepper macaroon with duck liver parfait was incredible, as was the croissant mousse in one of the desserts.
More spoons please. I couldnt get the last dregs of delicious sauce from the bottom of the bowl. Otherwise bang on. I mean look at this, seriously. Just go already.
Ok I dont give 5s often but this place is great, each course is not too sophisticated, flavours and combinations just work. The best of the nite was the Crab, Pickled Peach.. weird and wonderful.. recommend the tasting a few pics below
The food, ambiance, and service were all on point. The tasting menu is brilliant and is well worth the time and cost. For a more interesting table, ask to be sat at the table in the bar.
