Goring Street, Worthing BN12 5AR, Lancing
A no-nonsense pub with a menu of traditional British dishes & a family-friendly vibe.
Beers are good I have managed one meal so far Due to supply issues ,no food was available on the last visit. Not the fault of The Bull, in addition my recent visit 28/7/22 was very good. That steak and ale pie was huge
Menu was very short, items missing considering it was 18.30 on a Saturday night. My friends had pies and the pastry casing was extremely hard, appeared baked then microwaved? They didnt like to complain but its a regular occurrence. My fish and pea risotto was very good, but peas on top of rice doesnt make it a pea Risotto.
Service was slow, food cold and underwhelming. Included battered onion rings on a gluten free order.
Started with one star! But increased to two due to effort of waitress, but she was up against it from the beginning! Told us there was a 40 minute wait for food, we were okay with this initially. Then waited 90 minutes for our starter…. halloumi fries x 2 and one risotto. Prawns were raw in risotto but stayed polite and just left them. Finally when our 5 mains arrived… dreadful and embarrassing, had to comment roast potatoes had now became sliced boiled new potatoes, courgette salad had become lettuce!!! And as for the seafood grill, no salmon just a small bowl of Seabass and two prawns! As for the other meals , soggy cold veg, instant mash cold and could pick up in one! My mum got served her steak ciabatta which was the only edible meal.,, but to eat alone as all the other meals were returned was unacceptable. We paid for what we ate and drank and left! No offer of complimentary drinks or anything! It seems like there was no one in charge and I feel sorry for the staff that had to deal with the situation, needs leadership! How do you expect customers to return after such a poor experience? We were visiting family and chose to meet here… the 100 mile drive was definitely not worth it!
Nice meal and friendly staff. Would have got 5 stars but for the large amount of items on the menu not available on my visit
First time visit, with the family, to The Bull today. Incredibly warm welcome from Ali who looked after us throughout and with phenomenal support from Millie. Food was delicious and we’ll return!
I booked a table here (recommended), for a nice meal and drinks with friends and we had a great time. Though the venue was busy, the staff were helpful and welcoming not to mention my food was delicious (Cajun chicken burger).I will be coming back for more
What can I say waited 10 mins to get served at the bar, one chap was really busy nobody else to serve so left without so much as a drink really disappointed, wont bother again ☹️
overall great experience, staff were friendly, food was good and hot, came out quickly, will be coming back!
Local gastro pub. Book a table if you want to eat because if you walk in they could be fully booked even though the pub is empty. Update: still no food on a Sunday and the bar was nearly dry.
Very disappointed . I have been many times before and it is very good .the service was slow.the food was average and it was cold sitting in the restaurant .the heaters were on outside for the smoking area .but my children declined desert as it was too cold for ice cream in the restaurant and the food selection was very poor as lots of food was not available.on the positive side my wife enjoyed the main and starter.
Very warm and welcoming pub. Walked in with my partner and immediately felt comfortable, didnt wait long for a table before a member of staff to greet and show us to our table. Food was great and service was excellent. Pub was very clean and tidy.
Popped in for a cheeky Sunday roast with the family and had a lovely meal and super service from Ali and Lewischel. Helpful with the bubba too. Defo popping back!
Food was excellent and the table service was efficient and friendly. The meal was a step above your average " pub food" Only one staff member at the bar who was working his socks off, but a 10 minute wait to be served is not acceptable. Otherwise 5 stars.
Really great service. We were told we would have wait but the food was very prompt. Server was attentive and very polite. Starter of courgette and peppers was lovely. Risotto very very greasy with no flavour. Sundae was ok. Decor average
Had Sunday dinner hereFood good a couple of choices not Avaliable on menu at 17.15 on arrivalNice pub with lovely garden
Nice lunch, very short staffed so slow, but the staff they had were lovely, Ali who looked after us was lovely.
Lovely meal and great service all evening from lissy. Wouldnt hesitate to return
Deep fat fryer out of action today, so much of the menu isn’t achievable. What we did have; smothered chicken was indeed smothered and the chicken left a lot to be desired, quite tough. Oh dear. We won’t be coming back.
Went to the bull for a evening meal food was really good we tried one of the specials very tasty service was friendly lovely garden well worth a visit
Rubbish yet again no food being served. This is a very regular occurrence now always due to technical problems in the kitchen. Definitely a must to avoid which is such a shame as it used to be very good.
Used the bull for special occasion meals before but yesterday was terrible we waited to be seated although plenty of staff and hardly anyone in their we were told what was missing from the menu which I thought was lovely only then to order and be told more was missing I would like to add at this point we were the only people in the restaurant so it’s not like someone else ordered it before us we eventually got our food which was ok starters were lovely main I was very disappointed the only potato product on the menu was chips the waitress kept passing the food over people rather than walk round and put it on the table we then asked for the desert menu we waited 10 minutes then decided to try and get their attention someone was behind the bar just talking to someone not serving them she kept looking at us but ignoring us in the end we had to go to the bar and say we would like to order she came and took the order 10 more minutes later another waitress came back and said our order didn’t go through so had to order yet again as I say we were the only table in the restaurant and then when we were eating dessert we were asked do u want coffee they obviously. Wanted to go home I mean if u hadn’t kept us waiting so long we would of been out of their much earlier it was supposed to be a nice birthday meal but it was honestly terrible
Food and service were fine but it took ages between courses. We had 4 main courses and 4 desserts and were there for 2 1/2 hours!
Not sure whether this place has changed hands in the last year. We used to come here regularly and loved it but after tonight’s meal I don’t think I would return. Food was terrible, squid was absolutely stone cold and undercooked, the pea risotto was genuinely just rice and peas, it wasn’t a risotto at all and the pie and mash came out with a table spoon of awful lumpy mash that looked to be microwaved, it also didn’t have the veg that was stated on the menu. To top off what was already a disappointing meal, 40 minutes after finishing (all with most of our food still on the plate!we had to go to the bar to pay as nobody had come to offer us the bill. When we got to the bar, we were not offered a bill, just told the total and expected to pay. We could not even check what we were paying for. The wait for drinks at the bar was also ridiculously long.
Poor. Slow service, flat drinks with half a pint of ice in a pint glass and and truly awful food. Rowdy beer garden and expensive to boot. If you want a depressing, overpriced meal this is the place for you. Avoid.
Sat here for over an hour and a half after we ordered food to then be told the chef isnt working yet. Why not say this when we ordered food! This isnt even the first time we have left disappointed, definitely wont return
Amazing food and great service, I highly recommend the pulled pork and steak fillet burger on the new specials menu, it’s to die for! Would highly recommend visiting, even if just to try their new specials menu!
A really awful experience. Waited for over 10 minutes to be seated – even though we had booked in advance. Waitress was young and vastly overworked. Waited over an hour for just the soup – along with burnt toast! Another long wait for the main course which was mostly awful. Asked previously for substitute for broccoli such as peas – they were out of peas!!! They gave me raw Kale instead with a roast – well really. Terrible service and dreadful food – waitress not at all interested as it appeared she had gone through a terrible day herself. It I could give zero stars I would as one star seems too good for this level of service. Probably the worst pub in the area. You have been warned. – Avoid!!!
Been here multiple times the food is rubbish and my friend and I both ended up with dodgy stomach after eating here. The garden is lovely and the beer is alright but stay away from the food.
Well, I maintain my 3 star rating from whenever it was as this is a really good chain pub with a great building, a good (dog friendlygarden and lovely staff. However, I still think a good pub should = good ale so, Greene King Abbot & IPA does not cut it for me. If I could get to the local management ...... "Get a guest or two on and see how your sales go up". Rant over (for now}•>
Great food and great service, do yourself a favour and try the Korean BBQ chicken strips to start. They are to die for.Special thanks to Ali for making our evening so premium
Atmosphere was lovely, very friendly staff and great food and beer. Will definitely be back. The assistant manager Lewis was very attentive and helpful.
Such a lovely pub.great food and very nice staff. Ali went above and beyond for my mum and me . I will definitely go there again.
We had booked a table for my birthday lunch last Saturday and were greeted by the lovely Ali. Beautifully set table and lovely atmosphere. I was struggling with the menu as I had been in hospital the previous weekend. Straight away Ali offered me a gluten free menu and how I could variate between the 2 menus. She was incredibly friendly, helpful and her customer service was second to none. Hats off to the chef too as it was everything we expected and more, also incredible value for money. We had a thoroughly fabulous afternoon. Thank you to Ali, the chef and the rest of the staff. Would highly recommend 👌 👍 👏
Food was excellent but the 5 stars are all for our server (Sharon I believe her name is), absolutely delightful, full of so much positivity and always smiling and genuinely such a lovely person!! Thank you for making our evening - the two girls from 3rd year at Brighton uni studying filmmaking :)
Family friendly. Staff were really helpful getting 3 prams up and down the step to get to the garden. Food was lovely. Garden great size and lots of tables.
Sad to give this a 1 star but went there Easter Sunday for a roast dinner, And both our meals were awful!! The food was cold, tasteless and undercooked!! The vegetables and potatoes were still hard where they were so undercooked, Would never eat there again but it’s such a shame as lovely pub and staff were friendly,
Popped in for an Easter Sunday lunch. Beer and garden are nice, Staff were friendly and some were very helpful. Food was mediocre at best. Ordered the super green salad with salmon from the menu but it wasnt explained that the till didnt have an option for toppings on the salad, we only found out when it was sent to the table without the salmon. We didnt pay for the salmon and we were offered an alternative. The trio of roasts was a variety of over and undercooked, pork pink in places, brocoli rock hard and burnt Yorkshire pudding, not sure if the chef tested anything or had their glasses on. We were not asked at all how our meal was so here is our review of our experience.
Had lunch earlier today. My husband had the mixed grill and I had the Sriracha Beyond Burger. Both were very good. However the Sriracha grilled cauliflower and pickled red onion were missing from my dish but what did arrive was great. My husband really enjoyed his meal too. Dessert was excellent. The service was a bit slow and the pub was by no means busy but everyone is struggling with the ramifications of Covid/ staffing/supply issues so you have to make allowances. Friendly service. Pleasant atmosphere and we didnt have anywhere else to be so we just enjoyed it! 😀
Fantastic Sunday Roast, lovely staff and great ambiance, will definitely be back 😋
Great food & drink in a charming pub/restaurant.Will definitely return.
Lovely friendly service from from the start with Lewis, who was helpful over the phone and professional in person. Lissy was welcoming and friendly and the food was amazing. My steak just melted in my mouth (cooked by Theo). A really nice way to celebrate our anniversary. Will definitely becoming back. Thank you
From my first contact over the phone with Lewis, to our friendly service by Lissy, to our excellent meal cooked by Theo, our 16th anniversary meal could not have been any better. Thank you for making it special.
Thought Id treat my mother and auntie to this little pub for a spot of lunch and we were not disappointed. Food was fab, well worth the money. Service was great. The manager (Richardwas very friendly and attentive. We will be back.
Very nice meal on a Tuesday afternoon. Friendly staff and food very good. It was hot, tasty and nicely presented. What more can one ask for. Will definitely be back again now that we have confidence in our local once again.
Booked for Boxing day lunch as recommended by a friend we were not disappointed. Warm welcome by staff who were attentive throughout and friendly. Food excellent quality as was the general presentation of venue. Will certainly return before next Boxing day!
Friendly staff & pretty good vegan breakfast. Attractive old building as well. Would like to try some more of the menu
Before covid we came here regularly for a Sunday roast. Bit apprehensive coming back after reading reviews. However....the pub was busy but we were welcomed immediately, all staff happy and helpful. We ordered food, told wait was half an hour to 40 mins, food came in 25mins, piping hot and delicious. Photo is of 2 pork loin & 1 roast beef dinners, sides of cabbage and bacon, cauliflower cheese and topped roast potatoes. Thank you very much, well be back soon
UPDATE: 9 days later were still waiting for our refund that we offered on the day for the un-edible food. They are quick to reply on here offering the email address but DONT REPLY. They want to look like they care when they dont.Only the second time weve visited and wasnt a good experience. We ended up waiting an hour and a half for our food (2 fish + chips and a burger). Both the battered fish were burnt and un-edible (disgrace to be servedthey werent able to make us new ones and so we ended up leaving without two of us eating
Food was good but service was leisurely. Lunch took nearly 3 hours even though it was not massively busy! Its a nice place but seems to be noisy as noise seems to amplify in the restaurant meaning you had to raise your voice to be heard making it even worse. Its fine if you are not in a rush.
