Buffelsfontein Game & Nature Reserve in Saldanha

A mixed experience. Warm welcome at reception and the first half of the game drive was really enjoyable amongst the free roaming animals. The second half of the drive has left me deeply saddened and angry that I supported this game reserve. The predators (lion, caracal, leopardare all kept in enclosures/cages (nowhere on the Buffelsfontein website is this mentioned), most of which are extremely small (think: zoo). Caracals clearly distressed and hissing, pacing up and down the edge of the cage as the guide encourages all and sundry to come closer. Then along to what we were told was a breeding pair of lion (separated by very small cageswhere the animals are antogonised and provoked through hand gestures, throwing stuff over the fence etc. by other guests on the drive as well as the guide. All this so as to presumably get a reaction from them, which they did. This was a truly heart-breaking experience and one that has no place in this day and age for true wildlife lovers.

Great facility. Complimentary hot and cold drinks included. Nice reception and little gift shop, and comfortable bar serving alcoholic beverages, overlooking the outdoor pool.Our tour guide (Willy?was knowledgeable (and funny). We were lucky to have clear blue skies and sunshine, but quite strong winds which apparently resulted in less animal sightings during the drive.All in all, very recommended!

Loved the reserve, the buffalos was funny and tried to charge the truck. No danger, but so fun to watch. Real awesome experience. Our tour guide Trevor was very educational and friendly. We had a blast!!!! Great job guys!!

Good vibes. Staff is very friendly. Food is amazing.

We did the full guided game drive and our guide, Willie, was a VIBE! We got to see giraffes, ostriches, elands, zebras, wildebeest and the two special residents of the reserve, the rhinos Maxy and Lily. The experience with the lions was breathtaking; such a pleasant surprise element to the trip. We also enjoyed seeing the other special cat :D (trying not to give spoilers here!)All in all, three hours very well spent.

Beautiful, big reserve. I absolutely loved the Game Drive there. We saw all of the Big 4 and lots of other animals. The animals seemed happy and healthy. The cats live in cages, which is always questionable for me, but at least they look healthy and have enough space...1,5 hour Game Drive is R400 and 3 hours cost R680. It was definitely worth the money!

Took a day trip for lunch and game drive. Really a worthwhile experience.

We’ve been only at the restaurant which was great. The food was really tasty and the service was great. Amazing view of the lake. Really recommended.

I cannot fault this place.The location, the accomodation, the food and the staff are all 10/10.Rooms are cleaned and fridge (including alcoholre-filled every day without even being requested.Willy the game drive guide deserves a mention - that guy is funny, extremely knowledgable and was awesome with my little ones.Will definitely be back!

Ive already rated it elsewhere. Suffice to say its a most visit place to enjoy good cuisine, view animals and enjoy country hospitality. Best of all it is totally affordable for SA visitors. We were most impressed by their efforts to care for rescue game and to educate on poaching prevention.

Trevor did a great Job. Unfortunately we missed the girafs, but it was still an awesome ride thanks a lot. Can definitely recommend it. 👍🏻

The animals looked healthy. Even the lions had some sass when it got close to feeding time so theyre obviously very happy. The views on the game drive was good, got some close ups with the rhinos. The cottage we stayed in was roomy and high quality. The wind is icy cold on the game drive so layer up. We went in April.

Great way to spend your weekend. Beautiful houses, and nice restaurant.Maybe just tidy up abit the surroundings, like the old caravan standing around.

Beautiful park, and just an hour from Cape Town so its an easy day trip. I was a bit disturbed because some of the big cats had ribs showing, which makes me wonder if they are being fed properly (I hope they are!).

Game drive is nice. Very hot an dry. Restaurant food is terrible though. Ordered a chicken burger... Dry hardly any sauce. The bun was stale.. Cheese processes and not even melted properly .. The crumbed fillet was so dry an chewy. Something should be done to deter the flies whilst eating and ants that are on your table. Even the citronella candles nothing harsh as we do understand one is in the bush but its not very enjoyable. A fly fell into my drink, I had only drink quarter of it.A few animals to see and the guide was friendly.For a local game drive enjoyable. Just dont try the food

Beautiful place good for a get away if you want some peace and quiet away from the busy city life. staff is friendly and helpful.You can book safaris to see some animalsAlso available for functions, camping generally you will enjoy your stay its my home away from home.

Absolutely amazing to be able to experience the big five and what made it so much more special was the staff. Absolute pleasure to see their passion and care not just for the animals but also their human guest. I recommend this game and natures reserve from the friendly staff to the animals it was excellent well-rounded day. Thank you for this wonderful experience.

An amazing stay, nothing like listening to the lions in the distance while sitting around the fire enjoying a cold beer.Friendly staff and awesome game drive, plenty of wildlife to see & only a hours drive from Cape Town.

Definitely returning soon.Whole experience from accommodation, food and game drive was very well executed. Mainly a variety of different buck species, giraffe, white rhino, zebras, wildebeest, lions to see. Commentary and information shared by the ranger was excellent!

We attended a wedding and stayed two nights in the self catering guest house with other wedding guests. The peaceful surroundings and animals walking past the house while having drinks at the pool were a bonus. The sunset was amazing! We enjoyed the hearty breakfast served each morning. The food at the wedding was also good. The only criticism I have is that there is no bathroom for people who stayed upstairs.

We recently stayed at the bush camp at Buffelsfontein and it was amazing! Yes it is very rustic but it is perfect for switching off and connecting with family. We had breakfast at the restaurant afterwards and it was superb!

This is a private game reserve. SA is famous for wildlife but if you dont have an opportunity to visit any SAN park, then go for this Game reserve(100kms from cape town). This is a very well maintained game reserve with lots of fauna. The herbivore animals can be seen from very near, but the carnivore are mostly caged.The guide we had was quite informative. This reserve has also lodges for night stay. This location will be very exciting for night stay even though I couldnt stay there because of shortage of time. I really enjoyed my time there. There is a very nice café/restaurant, which serves very delicious foods.Safe for children, accessible to wheel chair.

Buffelsfontein offers great atmosphere and Healthy wild life. The Game Drive is well worth taking and the feeding of the lions is wonderful experience. With the most friendly staff offering great service.

What an incredible weekend away! We were a group that stayed in the Self Catering guest house.What we did not know is that it had its very own pool with the most breath-taking view.The Rhinos came to greet us right by the guest house late afternoon, which is something out of this world!The whole experience at Buffelsfointein was just unforgettable & we will certainly be back!

Tour guides are very knowledgeable. Besides the vast variety of wild animals, its a great place for a lazy Sunday open air ride crisscrossing a 4km by 4km veld

What a lovely place! We were greeted by some beautiful Giraffes. Had a quick breakfast. Even tho we did not stay the night, we were treated like we were family. Beautiful place, beautiful animals and wonderfull staff. Thanks guys! (I reccomend the Steenbok breakfast for on the go travlers)

What a wonderful experience. The game drive was amazing and can definitely be contributed to Trevor, our guide who was fantastic!Ended off with lunch that was thoroughly enjoyed by all! All the staff were super friendly and helpful. Cant wait to go back there again.

This is a little gem in the west coast.Very friendly welcome.Bungalows on the hill is secluded and private. And the animals visit right at your doorstep.Restaurant serve plain food but very tasty.

Pricing for game drive is well worth it as you get to WALK next to cheetahs in their enclosed pin. They are rescued animals and well looked after here including the lions. Only 1 hr from Cape Town. Restaurant is very basic and could do with a revamp. The lodge accommodation is very comfortable. I am looking forward to going back to stay in the basic tent with the kids so they can sleep outside in the wild under the stars.

Great South African experience. Game drives are a bit pricey but otherwise a superb experience. Staff are friendly, rooms are great, and watering hole in front of the rooms makes for a great morning experience when the animals are drinking.

Not impressed. Restaurant food very basic. Accommodation is okay. Game drive is average. Animals seem happy under the draught circumstances. Lots of room for improvement.

Absolutely majestic. We stayed in one of the chalets which was perfect. We enjoyed the buffalo, rabbits, pheasants, Rhino, Zebra, yellow billed Kite and Springbok that frequented the area due the the watering hole in close proximity, enjoyed a swim in the pool situated a km from the chalets and Tolla pacing the perimeters of his Cheetah run. The game drive was truly magic and very infirmative with a few giggles and keen sense of humour from our Guide Willie. Great personality!. Definately well worth the effort if you enjoy the peace and quiet of the bush. Great job guys.

Arrived 130 Game drive 2pm was Awesome. Staff very friendly and helpful. Rangers knowledgeable. Were stayed here 2 nights I would recommend Luxury Cottage well equipped and comfortable. Food delicious. We came here for our 20th Wedding Anniversary... we were spoilt and looked after. Thank you.

The cheetahs and Lions is a high and a definate must! I always wanted to be real close to the lions and what a awesome experience we had! The food is just as good, enjoyed it!

Great park with very friendly staff. Had a great guided tour and got a chance to get a close up look at most of the animals. Guide was respectful towards the animals and to visitors.
