A 3-minute walk from the Holter Museum of Art, this unassuming, low-rise motel is 8 minutes' walk from the Cathedral of Saint Helena and 3 miles from Spring Meadow Lake State Park. The unfussy rooms offer complimentary Wi-Fi and cable TV, as well as microwaves, minifridges and coffeemakers.Amenities include free parking, and coin-operated laundry facilities. Pets are welcome for a fee.
Not very great place, lots of drugs and homeless
It is exactly what you would expect it to be for a budget hotel in downtown Helena. Its clean a d the rooms are decent.
A/C blew cold. Very nice woman at the front desk. On the other hand, housekeeping knocked on my door before 11 and I hate being scared awake. Lots of cracking/peeling ceiling/walls; some mold in shower grout. Given 3 due to microwave and fridge, but overall not worth the current price. Should be a $50-60 place (again, only bc of fridge/micro); unfortunately, everything is more than its worth rn.
Front desk service was pleasant arriving after midnight. Room was pretty dirty but survivable, you get what you pay for I guess. There was food still in the room fridge, sheets were suspect, maybe changed, maybe not, toilet wasnt cleaned, glad I can stand to pee! Less than half the price of the other options at the time so it was what it was.
Pretty sketchy place. And they don’t do refunds. Don’t get fooled by their misleading Expedia page
This is nothing fancy, just perfect for me. If you get a room for less than 90 and you dont expect it to be a little rough around the edges you havent travelled since 2019. Service was great, very fast check in. Located downtown by lots of great businesses.
The rooms are dirty and smell horrible of cigarettes, yellow walls and mold. When I asked for a discount they said no.
Hair in the bed. The place was really affordable but they sheets and blankets looked as if they hadn’t been washed for a month. It was also a cross the street from a homeless shelter. It was very affordable but I feel that the sheets should have atleast been clean for the price
We stayed here for a little weekend get away. We visited the Broadwater Hot Springs & the breweries nearby and had a fantastic weekend! This old school motel is clean and quiet. The bed was very comfortable. We had a restful night. Downtown location is close to local attractions and shopping. Numerous breweries, restaurants, & bars within a couple of blocks!
I’m an Uber driver. I brought a woman here to this hotel. There was an open sign. My rider needed a room. At 2:00am on Monday morning. The guy came and unlocked the door, looked my rider up and down, then turned her away and said he had no rooms. He was Lying. She was completely discriminated against. The guy was a complete jerk. I felt the need to make this review after witnessing this. Shame on you!
Four stars got exactly what it is - a very affordable hotel that was clean, safe, and friendly. Budget-friendly hotels can be risky, but this place was a good choice. Yes, its definitely older and showing some age, but Id stay here again. Very welcoming.
Serves its purpose for a place to stay. The facility is outdated and it was apparent that our electrical outlet had caught fire recently. There are a group of people at all hours across the street watching the hotel guests. If any of that freaks you out dont stay here but as far as a budget hotel goes everything was cleaned and the beds were good.
The old decor, and smelly room were not enough to make me want to leave but the shady characters made my skin crawl and I was not going to be able to sleep. Everyone was so loud and you can hear everything. The guys above the room I had were headed into Friday night party mode and it was obnoxious. The guy checking me in got frustrated because I was going to cancel my second night there and I didnt tell him before he ran my card. Really would recommend staying somewhere else.
Older but very Clean, quiet and reasonable and safe. Accepts pets but you have to walk a little for grass. Loved the room and the service.
I was happy overall..comfy bed and a good AC end unit was large with mini refer and nice bathroom.
The room was super dirty, there were chips on the floor beside the bed, the remote had some kind of build up of something on it. The lamps in the bedroom are rusted on the bases, the room was musty and to keep the air conditioning on you had to prop the plug up against the outlet for it to stay on. With all the hotels being sold out on this day we had no choice but to stay. We checked out first thing in the morning and booked another hotel for the next 2 nights. Do not stay here if you appreciate cleanliness. This is also across the street from where several homeless people are out laying on the sidewalks.
Location was great, and friendly staff. Definately not the cleanest, and rooms were poorly set up (e.g., very little light). Worth staying at for the location, but keep your expectations in check.
Housekeeper didnt clean my room, empty the trash, or provide any additional clean towels and the front desk manager told me to "wait until tomorrow." The motel is also crawling with drug addicts and Im going to request a refund and check into another motel.
Nice, clean, comfortable, affordable rooms. My fiance and I stayed here a couple of times. Also very good customer service and good about protecting guest privacy. We were told that a couple of guys came looking for us the first time we stayed but the front desk clerk did not tell them what room we were in because we did not want to be bothered. Thank you for protecting our privacy during our stay.
You get what you pay for, great value. Best downtown location, strong shower head pressure, friendly staff, t.v and outlets all worked, heater worked A+, clean room. Great place to stay on trip to the local ski hill.
I always stay here when I come to Helena. Its cheap and perfectly adequate for a night. The people are very nice. The little lobby is nice and the rooms are fine for the price. The WiFi is not so great....lots of buffering. I cant watch anything on the iPad or use some of the apps but its ok their tv package is pretty good. Nice old little motel right in downtown Helena. Close to a lot of stuff you can walk to.
Basic, no frills, dated, but CHEAP. Nothing bit me. I slept well. The property management was very friendly and helpful. It served its purpose---a reasonable bed, a shower, refrigerator and microwave.
Probably the best budget hotel in the Helena area. Yes, its an older building, but its been cared for. Its a solid place to rest your weary head, its close to many of the sites of Helena, and how much of the inside of your hotel room do you need to see anyway?
Great price. Laundry on site. Clean rooms. Right downtown! Loved staying here. The woman who greeted me was so friendly and warm. Incredible customer service. They even had a hiker box if items for hikers to pick from left by other hikers. Will definitely stay here next time Im in Helena.
The rooms are quite nice, beds are comfortable, bathroom is nice. Just the blankets smell a little and when we first walked in it smelt strongly of lemon/orange cleaner. Also the sign says there’s a hot tub, fitness room & game room. Where are those? Overall stay was fine though. You get what you pay for.
We had a great experience staying at the Budget Inn. The price was great, especially for the location. We were a very small block away from all the shops and restaurants on Last Chance Gulch. It was very quiet, clean, and well maintained. It is not a new hotel and the rooms and bathroom are a little dated, but it is clean and comfortable. The front desk staff were great, and had wonderful recommendations for where to eat and what to see. We would stay here again if we were ever back in Helena!
Great customer service from the friendly front desk. The rooms are simple but have everything you need. I couldnt have asked for more. I was pleased with stay and Ill definitely stay again.
Nice for the price. Friendly desk lady, they had a basket of dog supplies for our little dog. Which turns out to be a good idea. Later I found out the walls seemed a little thin. Comfortable bed.
I stayed at this little motel for two weeks in the end of February-beginning of march. (2/18/19 ----3/4/19). I paid $582.26 for the 14 days I was there. That equals $41.59 a night, so pretty cheap. First, there is nothing fancy about this place at all. Although it does look like they have renovated fairly recently. It is located right in the downtown area with lots of little businesses , cafes, bars, restaurants and an antique shop close by and within walking distance. The hotel is 2 story with no elevators. I had a 1 bed unit and it was average sized. The bed was clean and comfortable. The unit itself was very clean , but just showing its age. My unit also had a microwave and a mini fridge. Im pretty sure the microwave and fridge are standard for each unit. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Even the housekeepers were super nice and helpful. I felt completely safe in the hotel and the area of town. I would say that about half of the guests that stayed there were long term guests and the other half were just there for a night or two. I would stay here again and would recommend it to my friends.
This was our third time here. We would highly recommend this little motel. The room was clean and comfortable. The hot water is hot! Wifi was excellent. Staff were very nice, as is everyone we have met in Helena! Lots of bars, restaurants and history up the street.
Very friendly. Nice rooms. Clean. When you bring your dog, they lend you a doggie kit. That has dog bowls, leash, local dog laws, recommendations were to walk your dog, and treats. I thought that was very cool.
You get what you pay for. As long as you expect that, you wont be disappointed. The rooms are dated and a bit run down and the walls are very thin, but if youre looking for a decent bed with a hot shower for a night that is centrally located to downtown activities it is a good spot. You can walk to the Wind Bag Saloon inside of 10 min for good food and Blackfoot brewery as well. Big Dipper ice cream is within 5 minutes. If you get nervous with a little noise at night find another option.
Motel located in the heart of Helena, Montana. A historic city offering places to visit all within walking distance. The Desk Manager was very kind, and the motel is clean, comfortable and provides Cable and a microwave.
This is a great location for a great price. As expected it is a bit lacking in quality amenities but is a good value. The air con couldnt handle the +100 temps so was warm until 03:00. Place smells old as can be expected but it is clean. No complaints there. The front desk was very friendly and accommodating. I would definitely recommend this place.
For the price and location you cant beat it. It was around $60/night and located right in downtown within walking distance of everything. The owners were very nice. Laundry is $1.50 to wash and dry.A couple downsides was the shower would change from hot to cold randomly on its own. The wifi was fast at times but other times it wouldnt work or was very slow.
Great Location. Super friendly staff. We were in town for a work related event, this location was amazing close to work, dining, and shopping all in walking distance.Rooms were very clean. Beds comfortable, copious hot water, and staff who actually are accommodating and helpful. We will definitely be back!
Nice for a budget motel. Rooms are clean, bathroom is clean with plenty of hot water, and non smoking rooms. Quiet for a downtown area. Staff is kind and helpful.
The room was decent, kind of dingy and the carpet was out dated.Wifi worked poorly sometimes not working at all.The staff was loud while cleaning and invasive
I wish I didn’t have to even give one star. This was by far the worst motel I’ve ever stayed in. The water for a shower is either freezing cold or burning your skin hot. No in between. The heater works the same way, either your room is on fire or freezing. The lady at the front was pushy, nosey and rude. Check out is 11am and they start banging on your door (when I say banging I mean SWAT team styleat 10am for you to either ‘PAY ANOTHER NIGHT OR GET OUT’. There is an additional $10 fee for every person on top of the nightly fee. I honestly don’t know how this place is still in business. If you’re looking for a warm bed, shower and rest this is NOT the place to go. - also, check in took 45 minutes. It was 1am and nobody was in front of us. She said her computer was acting up so my husband offered to leave his credit card while she sorted it out and we could go get food she said ‘no I don’t want to be woken up again tonight.’ What a joke.
Great location and price, get off the freeway and check out downtown Helena! Older, but clean and friendly owners. Basic motel, nothing fancy. Ill be going back with the kids next month to enjoy downtown at Christmas.
Casual place to stay, Ive been here about 3 months now friendly and clean. The owners J a y and Jenny are very efficient and customer-oriented. Plan on staying probably another month its reasonable for Helena to stay here. Helena is an expensive place to live and balances out really well. Id do it again if push comes to shove.
Came for another visit;Considering the rate, location and genuinely friendly reception, I would still rate this place as a 5. Rooms are a bit dated, but its clean....and who can expect the Hyatt at this rate!?Make sure you take a walk up the street and up to the old homes.
Maintenance seems to be an issue. The first room we had leaked from the ceiling, and the drywall was rotting. We requested a new room and noticed that our first room (104was already rented out without a single repair. Our next room the toilet ran, and the bathroom lights flicker. That is not normally a big deal but I have epilepsy and they wouldnt change the ballast to stop the flickering so I am stuck using a bathroom that enduces seizures. Staff is friendly and helpful but that wont save this place without investing into repairs.
Recently stayed here and it was a cheap hotel. Got what we paid for. Room was stale smelling when we first arrived. Biggest problem was we had a leak in our room we didnt notice till after we took showers, and the paint in the bathroom was chipping/peeling off. Also had people around our room that were smoking and the smell was coming in our room which the whole area was supposed to be non smoking rooms.
I always thought the Budget Inn Express was an undervalued property. Im really impressed with the way the new ownership is taking on the challenges that were facing this property, and they have really turned it around. Not that it was in bad repair before, it was well cared for. But now theres that extra touch of someone whos able to devote their time to it.
Hard to find a $50 hotel these days and this one worked out great. If your nitpicky youll probably find some things to complain about. Paint chips and things like that. Honestly I needed a clean room with a comfy bed and a hot shower. I got all those things and I plenty satisfied with my choice. We planned to camp but it was 2 cold so this place really saved us. Note that there are old heaters in the rooms that dont work anymore the heat is a combination unit with the airconditioner so dont make the mistake of thinking theres no heat for 2 hours like I did lol plenty warm once I turned it on. The woman at the front desk was very friendly and helpful. I highly recommend this spot for weary travelers looking for a nice secure place to stay. Will definitely be back if I pass through again.
Very friendly hotel with awesome rates and not far from some of the best parts of Helena. The building appears to be recently renovated inside and out. My room wasnt large, but had everything I was looking for. Wifi was good, but sometimes spotty.
Reception was correct and friendly. We arrived rather late, and were happy to find somewhere to sleep. The room was clean, but when entering at the end of a warm day, it smelt stale, not fresh, because of the carpet. The airco functioned, but made to much noise to sleep with. After all, according the budget, we got value for money.
My wife, son and I stayed here last week. We have stayed here before several times. Since I stayed here last about two years ago the new owners have improved things a lot. They have installed much more comfortable beds (though I really had no problems with them beforeand better quality furniture. They just painted the exterior and it looks great. As was the case before, the staff are polite, helpful and friendly, and the place is clean, and they do all of the above for a low price.
For $50 this is a 5/5. Not a 5 star hotel by any stretch but its very clean and the beds are super comfy. I have stayed here twice and will again. The woman managing the front desk is super friendly, helpful and chatty. Please ignore any of the other reviewers who slander her character.I will be back next time I need a room in Helena.
