We went on Tuesday morning and expected to stay 4-5 hours but we walked almost everything in 2 hours. Lots and lots of animals habitats were under construction and we couldn’t see them, i wouldn’t recommend visiting at this time of the year, not much to see there. The architecture was beautiful but very old. Staff was super nice. I’m sure when the reconstruction is done it will be perfect!

Very good Zoo, with lot of animals that you can see. Go there a little bit earlier as some places are closed in the afternoons. You need around 5-6 hours to fully visit all Zoo attractions

Went with 10, 8 and 3 years olds. It took us 7 hours to explore everything. Highlights were penguin breakfast, anteater, sloths, lions, rhinos, shark tank etc. Kids also enjoyed playgrounds. Many explanations are only in Hungarian language.

Top rated place, a must go in your visit list when in Budapest, allow yourself with plenty of time to visit all places and make sure to wear comfy shoes for a health walk inside the park.Various options for hot and cold drinks, snacks and crisps.Animals are well maintained and looked very healthy, also there are areas under construction for more variety

Not one for zoos or believe in animal captivity but it was a nice experience. Clean grounds, a wide variety of animals and plenty of people. The only downside was seeing quite a few were enclosed by themselves, looking fed up and lonely.

Extraordinary. The Zoo is massive, with tons of buildings and animal species to explore. Even has rare animals such as a giraffe. It seems they are doing a good job of maintaining.Ticket price is nice

We visit zoos wherever available and this one is top 5. The price, the quality, the facilities, the zoo food - it was all spectacular. We went on a Tuesday at opening and the traffic was light. There was plenty of space for my toddler to todddle around, and they had a wonderful playground available inside during our lunch break.

One of the best ‘Zoo’ experience. Great staff, normal price (8000HUF- 2 adults plus 4 years old kid). Great weather and walking around for more then 3 hours. First plan it was around 1hour.😃 we will be back and re-visit places inside that we skipped.

HATED IT!!!! Terrible place!Every habitat there was clearly too small for the animals i side. Also the animals seemed sick and in distress. I saw the Polar bear going for about 10minutes passing in distress from corner to corner (about 5 steps long, really). Also, a pond for a crocodile where people can throw coins at it...the poor animal had a coin thrown at him like if it was a game of some sort. I was shocked to see that I was the only one trying to stop people from doing so, because there were no zoo personal anywhere to be seen...When I came here, I thought this place cared about animals, but they are clearly just concerned for the show and the profit. I dont recommend going here and I regret my visit to such a poorly maintained place.I fear for the animals there....

Beautiful zoo, we have visited quite a few through Europe and I believe this is a good honest example of value for money. We spent around 3 hours there just walking around and we didnt even see a show. Great day out ......

I liked that zoo! It is pretty interactive- you can learn about the animals, see them at their lunch time! Gorillas lunch was really funny- especially their youngsters behavior. Some animals are kept together as in nature.

One of the largest zoos Ive ever been to. Make sure you have around 3-4 hours if you come visit. Located really close to the entry of the park and contains a couple of nature museums as long as animals. The entire zoo is divided into continents that each animal comes from, and some cages are extraordinary! You can literally walk next to the eagles. Watch them feed the penguins!! Theyre the cutest

Take at least half a day for the visit. It has a surprisingly large space dedicated for the animals and birds, the animals are very well kept. There are a lot interactive exhibits for children and adults. Overall a great experience for the whole family

Although it has a wide variety of animals in the zoo, it does not do a great job in giving good living environment to the animals. Polar bears and penguins are kept in a very small area and living outdoor in hot summer day. Hope the facilities can be improved soon.

I feel guilty I went to this zoo. Extremely dirty, malnourished and sad animals, no enrichments, dirty or no water at all, mixing of the species that I doubt live together and seem bothered by others.. Animals barely have shelter to hide from people, even in their ‚shelter’ (rhino, giraffethey were constanly exposed to people. Almost no english subtitles. Took us a long time to find entrance (and then to walk a mile to find entrance with cash accepting desk)..

Really nice zoo with lot of animal species. Many zoo buildings have same beautiful city type buildings with mosaics. Many buildings where you appear in open spaces with animals without no cages between, that our family liked a lot. Many benches to sit and enjoy inhabitants of the zoo.

We have been at the beginning of August to visit the Zoo. Our main concern is that plenty of enclosures can be visited up to 16:30 or 17:30. We visited the Zoo after 16:00 as the temperature before this was over 33 degrees Celsius and the disconfort is high . I feel that during summer time, the visiting hours should be extended to make it more comfortable for the people and animals as well.-1 star: From the animals we really wanted to see, we were not able to view the Elephants and giraffes as they were not allowed to room outside of their buildings.-1 star: Plenty enclosures were under construction and unable to view the animals. If you want to visit everything, you should go from around 12:00 when the shows/presentations start, and extend your stay until over 18:00, so you can view all the animals. Keep in mind that the space is quite big.If you experienced bigger Zoos, I dont recommend to visit the zoo only to see the animals. I recommend to visit it if you want to go to a park and enjoy a walk in the shade.

The joy of children :Beautiful and organized. I strongly recommend to buy tickets online from the official website, to avoid staying in the row and waiting. With online tickets they just scan them and enter. Simple and efficient. The zoo has lots of spaces, so take time and reserve at least half a day in your journey for visiting it if you will go with children.

A large variety of animals and very interactive for children. However I couldnt help but notice the animals were very docile and some what miserable. The zoo grounds themselves are lovely although I found the enclosures particularly small for some of the larger animals which was disappointing to see. And I couldnt help but think this added to their depressed like states. Definitely put a few hours aside to explore!

Really worth going. Name an animal and its going to be there! Great experience roaming around, lot of places to get a slushy/cold drink. During afternoon hours sun did make it a little difficult to walk, but there few indoor ones. Polar bear, giraffe, kangaroo, apes, orangutan, bats (yes bats!were the highlight for us.

So far I’ve never felt bad about visiting zoo’s till this one. But a lot of the enclosures were in bad shape, some just straight up empty. A lot of the enclosures were “Under construction”Some of the animals looked really stressed out, most signs are only in Hungarian (Which is understandable, but signs with a negative influece, for example don’t feed the animals, or in the magic rock how many materials you could’ve saved if your smartphone was never made, were in english. Also a lot of animals seem to be alone or split up, I’m not sure about the reasoning, but I felt kinda sad for the animals.Edit:I would’ve been fine with paying more for the tickets if the animals would get better care.

I wouldn’t recommend this zoo at all. First of all I have a lot of concerns about the animals. The animals live in poor conditions. They have small cages/enclosures and it’s all very dirty. Some of the animals are separated or completely alone, even the ones that normally live in groups. If you were lucky enough to see two animals, it was usually mother and child. The animals that are grouped have way too little space and live very crowded. A couple animals don’t even have water because the pools are dried out and they didn’t even bother to fix it. Same deal with some of the vegetation in the enclosures: sometimes there just wasn’t any. We even saw injured animals like a mouse missing an entire ear and with a very infected tail. It is no surprise that the animals that live there show agressive behaviour towards the visitors. The enclosures are also poorly divided, for example you had the African and the Asian elephants next to each other in separate enclosures and the African elephant only had space inside and none outside, the Asian elephants only had space outside and none inside. I feel very sorry for the animals. And if this isn’t enough to convince you not to visit this zoo, here you have a couple more reasons. The zoo seems very big but half of it are empty cages or enclosures where they put an ‘under construction’ sign. It’s not tourist friendly at all because all the signs are in Hungarian and the directions are very unclear. The gardens aren’t that impressive anyway. The only thing I enjoyed was the petting zoo, but even then I felt bad because they seemed so sad.

G reat place for kids. Quit good infrastructure (shops, bars, toilets, wifi etc.). A lot of educional info (avialiable also in englishand shows on certain time at weekends. No problem to get to zoo by public transportation. Compared to another zoo accessibility and view to animals are awesome.

Loads of animals to see, and you could easily spend the whole day here as they have plenty of museum type attractions within as well. If you had young kids i would keep an eye on them especially near the rhino section as one could easily get into the enclosure. Some of the animal look slightly worse for wear , both the tigers and lions seemed very small for big cats and looked unwell

It was a very nice experience strolling around the Budapest Zoo & Botanical Garden! The Spring/Summer time gave chill-cool-hot weather, which drove us to get some Ice balls to eat while walking inside the zoo. All of the animals are friendly and lovable! Though, there are some needed protection. 😊 The entire place is clean, but some parts have normal (animalsmell. So, if you are looking for a place to get your kids and entire family to have a bonding with, try to visit this zoo! 😊

An enormous zoo with loads of animals that I hadnt seen before. To see the entire zoo you need at least 3-4 hours. The zoo is split into different regions but as there is not a designated route you do end up walking in circles a bit to go back and see animals missed. My favourite were the goats in the petting zoo, giraffes, brown bear, kangaroos, elephants and rhino. I did feel sorry for the polar bear as he looked very distressed pacing in the enclosure. He also seems to have a neck issue. There are many buildings to go inside some of these are very hot with other animals like birds, fish, monkeys etc. You could easily spend an entire day. Some animals have shows at different times but these are in Hungarian so I couldnt understand but its cool to see the animals fed etc.

One of the best decisions we made during our stay in Budapest - to visit the amazing zoo! Aside from all the amazing animals and the beautiful botanical garden, we also had the opportunity to see a newborn baby gorilla - the unique Indigo! Go there, right away! And prepare at least a few hours for a walk.

Be prepared to put aside at least 3-4 hours at this zoo and garden as there is a lot to see and do for the whole family. The animals are very well kept up for, and were quite sociable with other visitors. The tiger even put on a good show by roaring to the crowd for a few minutes drawing in many people. Do be aware as some of the buildings have different closing times then others. Overall this zoo and garden was fascinating for a lot of reasons, mostly due to them showcasing animals that aren’t present in many other zoos, and also their abundance of interactive exhibits for adults and children.

Maybe the zoo is good in summer but in winter we were really disappointed. Need to enter lots of buildings where it’s hot, humid and smelly. Looks like many of animals need more space than they have. But it looks like people working there really love what they do.

Many animals from all over the world. If you plan to visit it, you might spend there easily 5-6 hours. Can eat inside, restaurant or snack bar or the famous kürtös kalács.Big minus is the lack of parking places nearby. There are some parking lots, but not enough, we had to park far away from the zoo, and walk to get in.

As someone who always goes to the zoo when visiting a new city, I was eager to find out what one of Europes oldest zoos had to offer. Dating back to the late 1800s the zoo has quite a few special animals that you dont find at most zoos, like the Komodo Dragon. The place is big so you will spent a few hours there for sure (I suggest you wear your comfiest shoes since youll have quite some walking to do). As for the animals, in general they look healthy, well looked after and for the most part their cages look big enough. I was a bit disappointed though seeing the poor seal they have alone with no companion. I hope in the near future they can add a second one like they did with the sea lions. All in all its a pleasant experience for young and old so if you have the time to spend a couple of hours to visit the park ,definitely do so. I enjoyed it.

Very big and a lot of animals to see. Very interesting for young kids and adults. I liked the botanical garden because its very well kept and calming.Unfortunately, 90% of the signs and informations are written only in Hungarian. The other 10% are bilingual with English, and some of them have other languages, too.

Excellent place to spend a day, especially with your kids. Lots of animals and well designed terrariums. The “restaurant” has great food in all sorts and shapes. The layout is not small in size, so make sure you have a lit of energy and time to spend. Get your map from the info kiosk and plan the routes before you start. Leave at the end things that are not that interesting to you, as you might not have sufficient energy to enjoy in details.
