One of the famous pagoda of Bagan. During covid-19 period, only very few people were visiting.
MoreIt is located at the bend of Ayeyarwaddy River and the view is wonderful. It was built by King Pyusawhtee. But the origin of pagoda was destroied by 1975 earthquake and the whole pagoda was fallen into the river. The new pagoda built in 1976 at the same place.
MoreGreat place to watch the sunset When you get to Bagan, make sure you go
It was closed when I went due to covid concerns.but the placement of this pegoda is awesome. Very photogenic and beautiful structure.
MoreBeside the Ayawady river.Fresh air.About 10boat to cross the river.Different design with pagodas.
MoreGood place for enjoying sunset with Ayeyarwaddy river and mountain ranges.
Skip the crowds quick and get down to the beach, hire a boat for a sunset ride in the Irrawaddy river. The view on both sides of the river is actually beautiful! The boat ride is nominally priced, yes do bargain hard.

MoreBeautiful Pagoda located by river with nice scenery and you can have a boat trip
The place around is lovely temple and the view is very nice
One of the eldest pagodas in the region and I agree with other reviews, you really don’t need to spend much time here. Perfect view across the river and to the mountains on the horizon. Fishing and tourist boats line the sandbanks below
MoreThe place has a viewing deck for sunset along the Irrawaddy River. You can go down and hire a boat and take a cruise at this famous river.
MoreNice place, don’t need to spend much time there though. Great view, you can see the river or even have a walk there, there are stairs to the boats - they also offer tours. Nice to watch the sunset there, but you won’t be alone ;)
MoreYes this place has awesome sunset to see. The wind is fresh and i love it.
A nice sunset. when you are lucky, you can see a nice sunset view.
One of the oldest pagodas in Bagan, dating around 3rd century. The name Bupaya is made up of two words bu and paya in the Burmese language. As the pagoda is bulbous and in the shape of gourd or pumpkin, the word Bu in Burmese, which means "pumpkin" or "gourd" is the affixed to paya. The dome shape is covered in gold leaves giving out a great shine during the fading rays of sun at sunset over the Irawaddy ricer.
MoreVery memorial place! You should check for the history of this pagoda which is said to be one of the oldest! It is residing on the longest Irrawaddy river in Myanmar giving very nice scenery view! One of must visit in Bagan!
MoreNice Pagoda next to the river who allow you to see the life in the water and the power of the pagodas.
MoreWatch a nice sun set view there as well.
Has a small dhammasala, usual market scene but with restaurants.
This place is cool just along the river and you cannot enter with short pants. Then you have to buy the lungi . There is a huge market outside . People are nice .
MoreAt the edge of the Irrawady rive lies this piece, that should also be a stop in your journey to explore Bagan. The golden "blob" is one thing, and the sight along the river is yet another.
MoreIf you choose the place to see sunset in Bagan, here will be your choice. Many burmese and foreign tourists are enjoying their own highlights of travels on Bagan.Just be part of them here.
MoreOverlooking the River in Bagan, this small Pagoda offers a nice market place and fantastic view to the river
MoreBupaya Pagoda is a notable pagoda located in Bagan, in Myanmar, at a bend on the right bank of the Ayeyarwady River. The small pagoda, which has a bulbous shaped dome, is widely believed to have been built by the third King of Pagan, Pyusawhti who ruled from 168 to 243 AD.
MoreIt is quite similar to Lawkananda Pagoda. The place has an enormous dusty parking lot with stalls around. The sceneries from the pagoda are just stunning. It also has a small port for people crossing the river to get to the pagoda on the other side. It might be hot during the day but visiting at night is strongly recommended.
MoreOne of Lovely places at bagan.look different design and shape betweenother padoda.the good places to see sun set with raiver.advice to visit morning and evening.
MoreIt is nice place to watch sun set at Bagan.
Although not one of Bagan’s most impressive monuments, the Bupaya pagoda is an attractive monument because of its age and its location on the banks of the Irrawaddy river. The gilded pagoda is built in Pyu style, which is a descendant from the Indian style stupa. The Bupaya Pagoda is one of the earliest monuments on the Bagan plains, although it is not known with certainty when exactly it was build. According to a sign at the entrance the pagoda dates back to the year 300. Judging from the style of the pagoda, it seems likely that it dates from the 9th century, when the city of Bagan was founded or the 11th century, when the city walls were build. The Bupaya pagoda is believed to be build by King Pyusawhti, who ruled Bagan during the end of the 3rd century. According to local legend Pyusawhti, before he was King, managed to free the Bagan Kingdom of five nuisances, one of which was the infestation of the Irrawaddy river banks by the bu, a kind of gourd plant. As a reward he was given the hand of the King’s daughter. It is said that when Pyusawhti became King, he build the pagoda at the spot where the bu plant was eradicated. Buddhist relics were enshrined in the pagoda. With bu meaning gourd and phaya meaning pagoda, Bupaya Pahto literally means pagoda shaped like a gourd. The structure is in the shape of a bulbous dome and somewhat resembles the fruit of a gourd plant. The cylindrical stupa sits on top of a number of terraces, that looks like a fortress like structure when viewed from the river. On top is a gilded hti, a finial shaped as an umbrella found on almost all Burmese temples. You can rental ferry boat at the river bank for sight seeing and can play at the whitey sand bank.
MoreIt is also a popular place to enjoy sunset of Bagan from Ayeyarwaddy river Bank. Its located in Old Bagan and a few minutes drive from Nyaung U with E bike. Nothing particular in terms of architecture as opposed to other temples in Bagan. But enjoying sunset with a gentle breeze from the river is a plus.
MoreA great place to view beautiful sunset...
Near this pagoda is dock. Just 20,000 kyats for rent the boat to watch sunset. Very beautiful!!
MoreStrange design among the other pagodas located at river bank. This is new structure and original one is collapsed by earthquake in 1975.
MoreA very good place to have a sunset view, but depend on luck.
Located on the river side next to Irrawaddy river and very beautiful premises..They also have boating next to the temple..
MoreNobody comes here for the pagoda itself, but rather, for the view of the river from this spot. You can also find vendors of all sorts in this area, and people offering boat tours/rides from here as well.
MoreIt locate beside irrawaddy river and form this pagoda you can ride boats to go Tant Kyi Taung Pagoda. This place has car parking and restaurents. Also you can buy local product for gift. The pagoda is rebuild after earthquake after 1960 big earthquake because the original pagoda sink in irrawaddy river. Place is good for children and for buddhist.
MoreNot much to see. Just a small pagoda overlooking a river. A lot of shops and eatery around the area.
MoreBupaya pagoda is an attractive monument because of its age and its location on the banks of the Irrawaddy river. Nice view!

Nice place to watch sunset. Its crowded though. It might be peaceful during morning and day.Near the temple you can take a boat on Irrawaddy River
MoreThis temple was a little disappointing. There is not much to see and its also not a quiet atmosphere. However, if you come to enjoy a good view if the river it might be a good place, especially during sunset.
Moreyou can watch sunset and sunrise from here, but it usually crowded.
