Tucked away this designer coffee shop sources speciality coffees and serves them with snacks.
Brunswick East has evolved over time, but stayed true to its core principles - fresh, creative twists on old classics, Asian/Australian fusion and sustainability. B-E strives to be ahead of the curve, leaving some old trends behind and encouraging diners to try something new. You won’t find any avocado or smoked salmon, but you also won’t find breakfast like this anywhere else.
The coffee was great but the place and service were a bit average. Also, we saw the waitress sneezing twice straight in her hands and without washing her hands, touching things behind the counter (including things around the coffee machinewhich was completely off-putting.
The roasted banana bread with butter was delicious! Otherwise I thought everything was overpriced. The atmosphere is very chic and hipster - but in a nonchalant way. I was there on a chill weekday but the service was slow and it felt like the staff didn’t care.
Great outdoor seating arrangement, with a wide selection of coffees, juices, cakes and pastries. Particularly loved the Cleanse juice and the cookies.
We came with our 2 years old son, we ask for high chair, that didnt arrive. For the coffee we waited 15 min, until we cancelled it and walked away.Unfriendlly staff!!!Prefer to eat my breakfast in other places!
Food was nice and staff was friendly. Cured trout is a must-try
The food is amazing and the staff is super friendly. Do get the chilly egg toast if you go and enjoy the weather on their outside seats!
Very friendly staff and nice outdoor seating - they have a very delicious vegan cookie and also a vegan brunch option usually 🤤
Food is incredible, a bit pricey and the drinks are small. Good vibe and the staff were really kind and friendly.
Nice neighbourhood brunch cafe that offers not the stereotypical brunch menu aka "the royals". Food was yummy, like the ethics behind it, and friendly staff. My friends and I enjoyed it and 🙌🏽 to me for choosing this place 😛
Very solid brunch with good coffee and amazing sourdough bread and butter. I ordered trout on rye bread so that I could also just get a side of plain sourdough and butter - very happy with that decision.Typically a bustling spot and worth making a reservation. Can be a little hard to find as you have to walk up a bit of an alley and then turn into like a back gated sort of space.
Spot on coffee spot to fulfill your hungry needs for bites and caffeinated energy. Also, best Pain au chocolat Ive tried so far!
A lovely place, super friendly team and delicious brunch, pastries and coffee.
Great brunch and natural wine. Food was reasonably priced - drinks were a bit more pricey but that’s what you’d expect for good quality wine
Went this morning to do some emails in the sun and have some breakfast. The food was AMAAAAAAZING!!!!! Service was nice and attentive as well. Thanks team!!!!!
Met a friend for a Thursday lunch in the courtyard and it was great. Managed to get a table pretty easily, really delicious food and nice staff. Will certainly be returning to try more 😍💕🎉
Lovely coffee and light lunch hidden behind the hustle & bustle of Dalston, Hackney.
The chilli butter eggs are absolutely divine - highly recommend. My friend had the okonomiyaki and also thoroughly enjoyed. Busy little spot though so Id advise booking in advance if youre going in for breakfast/brunch.
I usually really like the place but the last few times I have been the quality of service went significantly down. I ordered some almond and apple tart which says on the menu is served warm with yogurt, it came cold with nothing else at all. I also ordered a chai latte that came almost completely cold. I could feel the staff were a bit annoyed by me asking to have them warm but at the price you’re paying, you’re expecting to have what you order at a good standard. I dont appreciate when I feel pushed to order quick, the waitress was coming every 40sec to take our order although we were clearly still reading the menu and deciding. I think the staff were a bit distracted by their own socialising. I think this is fine but not at the expense of the service.
Absolutely lovely! Undoubtedly the best cafe in Dalston, made even better by the absolutely wonderful and engaging waitress Alice who made my experience so perfect. She recommended to have my banana bread toasted with butter, which i never would have thought to do but it was DELICIOUS. Would recommend the apple juice!!!
A sweet cafe that offers seasonal and delicious food with good vegan and veggie options. Serves wine and cocktails. Service staff are really lovely and approachable. I does tend to get very busy so I would advise that you book in advance.
Food was good but a bit too much going on. Too much sauce/yogurt etc, sometimes less is more - dont need my bread drowning in yogurt and oil -- but ingredients were high quality (loved the tomatoes). Coffee was decent but barely warm which was odd. Friendly laidback staff. Food was pretty expensive and not a lot of options.Atmosphere inside was also odd, a bit musty and dark in places, seemed like it could do with a sweep and removal of random curtains. Overall worth trying but wouldnt go there again.
One of the best breakfast in London. Chilli poached was our favourite.
Really good ! Fresh products, elebaorated dishes, bubbly staff ( GREAT HOSTESS Natasha ). Deffo would come back
Food was hit or miss and service a bit too slow, the cafe itself is lovely inside. Asked for a second latte that never arrived, had to wait for 2 tables to be seated and place their orders while I waited for the bill. The sourdough was delicious, but another rice dish completely bland. Doubt I’ll go back :-( sorry. 3 stars thanks to the delicious sourdough.
Amazingly good breakfast. Top-notch ingredients, service, cooking.
Tasty brunch options. Friendly Australian owner. I tried two dishes because the first one was sooo good. Try the chilli eggs and the nasi goreng fried rice. So tasty!
Very nice atmosphere. A bit grungy and super hip, fits well with the area and demand of locals with minimalist interior and rustic understated elements.Had probably the best, brightest matcha latte in town. If you love matcha and chase to see where the best is, its here. So fresh, pleasant bitterish after-taste and not a single trace of oxidisation. The add a lot of matcha into the latte so youll be in cafe-high! The matcha tea was also very nice. Will be visiting again soon for other things!
Nice place for brunch. There are 2 different places in the same terraza. We enjoy our Food. They have a variety of hot drinks, fresh juices and others drinks. Food is nice
Lovely place with a amazing coffee and a really nice and tasty choice of food.Brunch is amazing!Really recommend!
Beautifully presented food and great flavour to match. The quiet, secluded courtyard is a great space to get away from the hustle and bustle of Dalston. Staff were attentive and upbeat but not intrusive.
A cute cafe with a DIY vibe of plywood shelving and tables. The food is excellent, make sure you try their guest pour over coffee. We had a Kenyan that with a lemon-like zing.
Great place for mid-week working. Open, airy space and very welcoming staff. Had the chilli eggs for lunch (delicious!and a couple of coffees. No pressure at all from the staff, didn’t feel like I had to rush, and plenty of plug sockets and good wifi for working. A hidden away gem in Dalston certainly. I’ll definitely be back- I want to try the whole menu! The pastries and cakes looked tasty too.
We’ve been regulars at Brunswick East for 5 years, and there is no better brunch place in the whole of London. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious and the coffee is to the highest Aussie standard. We had been looking for a proper Aussie café like we get at home, and Brunswick East could have easily been in Sydney or Melbourne! Furthermore, it is a welcoming environment to all, even furry friends like our pug Albus.I highly recommend it to anyone who is looking for a friendly place, and incredible food!
Absolutely fantastic, everything perfect from beginning to end. Service super friendly; they have a little waiting area with couches for when you cant be seated immediately which is great. Menu is interesting - vegi and meat options. All the classics but with their own twist. The Japanese style pancakes are INSANE. 10/10. Everything on the menu looks great though, coffee great, tonics / juices /drinks all great. Vibes great. Cannot wait to come in summer and sit outside. New favourite breakfast place. Fire. Well done guysEdit, 1 year later: came back in summer. Its great
Three words: chilli poached eggs. Sounds simple, but it will not disappoint! The rest of the menu sounded very unique and looked delicious as well.
The most delicious breakfast I had in ages. The coffee was really nice as well but the poached chilli eggs on toast I had were incredibly good. My belly now feels like it’s wrapt in a warm and cosy blanket. The service was brilliant and everyone was so lovely thank you.
Delicious autumnal hash however it was missing a bit of salt. The poached eggs and spinach were a tad too rich as they also had sour cream on the and plenty of butter on the bread. great flat white.
Have been here on multiple occasions and the food is always consistent: Fresh ingredients and proper potions. HOWEVER, your dining experience greatly depends on your servers. If you can help it and you will, avoid the female attendants for any sort of help. The male attendants are friendly, much nicer and are actually listening.
Great food and service! Friendly staff and delicious brunch options! Great coffee ☕️ 👍🏼🙌🏼
As a Melbournian, this cafe has me brimming me with Aussie pride. Excellent creative brunch menu and good coffee... Good people watching with some of Dalstons hippest on show.
You know that feeling of eating something so good that you never want it to end? I had this experience here. I tried the "hash brown", with avocado and a poached egg, and I enjoyed every bit of it! I will dream about it until next time.A quite hip cafe/brunch place, with a (sort ofscandinavian aesthetic. Good selection of cakes and coffee. And brunch, of course. A quiet and beautiful back (front?yard. Top!
one of the loveliest brunch experiences I have ever had! amazing service, atmosphere, and food. And SO good with dietary restrictions (amazing GF selection!xo
RIDICULOUSLY GOOD. The congee is from a parallel universe where Brexit never got off the ground and Trump is still just a verb.Incredibly kind staff, warm atmosphere, top-notch coffee and eats. Instant favorite brunch in London.
Brilliant vibe, brilliant food & drink and exceptional staff (probably because theyre mostly Australian). Really interesting and well executed dishes and reinventions of classics done well. Has become a regular go to
One of the best place in London, probably the best one. The food is so delicious and fress and the coffee is excellent, good taste and flavours, perfect microfoam and perfect temperature. Everything what you buy there it has need made there... Amazing... I recommend to everyone to try Brunswick East...
Absolutely lovely place. Even more when the sun is out.It is a hidden gem in the middle of the hectic neighborhood that is Dalston. The inside is very cute and the staff is adorable. The food is also very tasty with dishes for every type of diet. I recommend this place on a nice sunny weekend. Really loved it.
“Another hipster place with good coffee”I’m kinda left in two minds about this place. If you ask about coffee then yes, very good and they do oat milk too.Food - was also good, you’ll see from the pics. Apart from the banana bread which was burnt and did not taste nice. But the service was weird, maybe even a little rude. I was there late afternoon on a Friday and it wasn’t busy. Asking for a menu seemed like an issue and I was ‘politely’ told it was not table service and I should go up and order. Which I did. Almost immediately the table beside me ordered from the waitress when she asked if they’d like anything else. Happened at another table too. Maybe my face didn’t fit? Who knows but no one smiled and no one was friendly. Wouldn’t go back on these grounds and because there is more competition in dalston with nicer service.
I challenge you to find a better fritter stack. Place is always good. Get there a bit earlier than the rest of the crowd and youll find it a 5 star experience. A little later ... and the service may struggle, just like any place really. Outside during the sun is definitely key.
Quiet spot for a Friday lunch, lovingly made by the staff; a bright cheerful hello as I walked in.The cauliflower toast with avocado, onion jam, poached egg and sprouts was a treat. Ask for an extra egg! Somewhat secluded to locate, so look for Yolk Yoga, and theyre right next door.
