Schloßstraße 1a, 14059 Berlin, Germany, Berlin
Museum of art concentrating on the Jugendstil & Art Deco periods, as well as the Berlin Secession.
Really fine exibitions although the permanent exhibition looked a bit like a garage sale
Amazing jewellry exhibition Incorporated with all the lovely art decco style objects. And all the stories about the struggle for female artists was worth every second.
Nice rather smallish museum on Orr nouveau and decorative art, in case you have time before or after the neighboring palace
Beautiful museum with beautiful exhibits. Like a home for lost puppies, I wanted to take them all home!
Hand Formed Matter rules. Impressive works and delicate display.
Staff watched me like a hawk while I looked at books you could buy. Tried to pay to get into the exhibition but was told I couldnt pay with card because I had to spend €10 minimum. The entrance fee €8 and I havent been carrying cash in a pandemic. Apparently the customers here are rude too as one of them scolded me for not knowing german.
The Bröhan Museum is a Berlin state museum for Art Nouveau, Art Deco and Functionalism and is located in the Berlin district of Charlottenburg. The museum is named after its founder, entrepreneur and art collector Karl. H. Bröhan (1921–2000), who donated his collection to the state of Berlin on the occasion of his 60th birthday. In 1983, the Bröhan Museum opened in its current rooms, which belong to the Charlottenburg Palace ensemble and were originally built for the guard regiment. It has been a state museum since 1994.The museum houses a unique collection of art nouveau, art deco and functionalism as well as works from the Berlin Secession. These focal points are supplemented by changing exhibitions of fine arts, applied arts and design from 1950 to the present day.
Collection itself and exhibition are not bad at all. But so poor curation.I have visited this museum over 10 years. Its main collection is Bröhan‘s Art Deco, Nuevo and Bauhaus collections. Over years it has improved a bit but still curation is so poor, therefore you feel like watching someone’s neat warehouse. In particular in English, you cannot expect too much here.Maybe they cannot get enough funding?I visited Hanna Höch exhibition, whose works I always love, but seriously, in Berlin surely there are many who studied Hanna and could provide better curation. I do wish they can improve much more in the near future.Lastly, they only accept cash for entry.
Loved the museum. So many amazing pieces of Art Deco. But the yellow shelf room was a nightmare. It is impossible to see and enjoy the furniture that is 2m high.
Very well structured exhibition which unfortunately due to construction
My favourite art collection in Berlin. Art Noveau, art deco, furniture, paintings, super! Do not muss the 100 year Exhibition!
To be honest, Jugendstil or Art Nouveau is not really my favorite art / design era and most of the exhibits are against my taste. However, I have to appreciate the curation, the museum and the documentation. Definitely worth going.
One of the finest galleries!Alexandra was an incredible instructor!!
Nice little museum. Check out the exhibitions if you are in the neighborhood, I wouldnt say its worth crossing Berlin to visit it unless you are interested in the thema theyre showing. Personal is very friendly and overall I had a nice experience.
Small but very very efficient museum. We visited the Braun and Luigi Colani exhibitions which were both spectacular! Not just the products they delivered but how Bröhan exhibited was simply great. This place is easily my favourite museum with Museum of Technology.
The entrance was hard to find since the door was closed but after going around and trying to push it it was actually it.Two floors of amazing objects. Well curated and somehow related: Braun 100 years and Luigi Colani.A souvenir shop witht reasonable prices towards the end.The was ist gutes design room was a little neglected.
Quality of the museum obviously depends on the current exhibition, but Luigi Colani was great and so is the location so even though this is not the most popular and well known museum in Berlin, it is most definitely worth a visit!
We found the exhibitions of nordic design and of photography (stephan mosesvery nice. "klein aber fein", as gernans say :)We recommend them!
Don’t forget monday it’s closed! :)
One of my favourite in Berlin , really nice scenography and several great exhibition!
Interesting museum on furniture design. The Nordic exhibition was quite interesting.
Absolutely fantastic! A smaller exhibition space, but packed with relevant and interesting objects. Nordic Design the Response to the Bauhaus exhibition is superb. As a lover of Art Deco and Nordic design, especially the earlier works up to the early 1960s, I was thrilled to get up close to view pieces that I had only admired in books.
Elegant, intimate place. Exhibitions concentrated and well-organised. Just a few visitors. Quiet place in the hustle and bustle of central West Berlin
A nice collection in a nice building.
Museum with Art Nouveau furniture.
Even museum shop is nice
A small museum, containing primarily Art Deco and Art Noveau pieces. Rotating exhibitions on the second floor. Attractive collection. Plan about an hour.
Quite the interesting exposition, although the Museum Pass only covers a small portion of it.
Small museum and I was disappointed in the amount and quality of art nouveau and art deco they had. There was little text to put their collection in context. There are two other museums in the area, and if you have the 3 day museum card it would be easy to see all three and have lunch nearby.
Great Art Nouveau furniture and paintings. Leistikow for example painted many Berlin motives, Grunewald, Schlachtensee... Definitely worth visiting if youre interested in art and design of the beginning of the 20th century. Right in front of Schloss Charlottenburg.
The permanent exhibition of art noveau, art deco, and functionalist furniture was nice and at times even impressive, but what really earned a five star review was the temporary "Skandal! Mythos! Moderne! Die Vereinigung der XI in Berlin" exhibition. Well prepared, quite large and diverse, and with a free tour with a passionate guide, it was the highlight of my visit.Do have a look at the museum shop while youre there! It has some great designs.
Great surprise this museum of decorative et fine arts for periods of Arts and Ctafts, Art Nouveau and Art Deco. The museum is located in the exquisite area of Charlottenburg.
A little way from central Berlin but worth visiting if you like Art Nouveau and Arts & Crafts. New gallery open.
Quite the unique experience. Im not really a Museum person but the place itself its very imposant, the pieces exposed are lovely and really something else. What I also found quite impressive was the furniture section, all those old objects in such good conditions look pretty amazing, Its crazy how things change over the years.
Art Nouveau and Art Deco objects are on display at the Brohan Museum. Masterpieces by Peter Behrens, Hector Guimard and Emile Ruhlman. Furniture, porcelains, canvas, posters adorn the museum. As a bonus the surrounding neighborhood includes buildings from that era, and structures informed by classic style.
I find it boring, but take it from an 18 year old.
I came to see art nouveau pieces, but there did not seem to be any around. Most rooms were empty, temporary exhibits were on, but for me they were not worth the visit at all. Shop closed. Staff angry and no explanation for where things were. If they were changing exhibits, I wish they would warn visitors.
Impressive place with some of the nicest Art Nouveau and Art Deco artifacts. The temporary exhibitions are worth seeing, too. The George Grosz exhibition I have visited was astonishing. Do not forget to visit the museum shop, too.
A great little (non-flashymuseum that focuses on furniture, design, and crafts of the Jugendstil/Art Nouveau era and progressing into Bauhaus and modernism.Just across the street from the Charlottenburg Palace, next door to the Bergruen. An enlightening spot to spend and hour or 2, especially if youre into design and architecture.
Fabulous Art Deco art, furniture, and other exemplary objects in beautiful displays. On recent travel, we bought most of our gifts for family members back home in this gift shop. Highly recommended.
Awesome place for those who love modern style. And on first Wednesday of the month you can visit it for free!
Very good temporary exposition "Berliner Realismus" (Zille, Kollwitz, Baluschek, Dix,...). The permanent exposition (Art Nouveau & Art Déco furnitureis a nice extra, but alone - at least for me - would not be worth the visit. Impressive building, facing picturesque Schloss Charlottenburg.
Beautyful landscape paintings and jugendstill/art deco furniture/design. I found the paintings a bit boring though. But in combination with schlöss Charlottenburg it was ok
This museum is the result of a collector Karl Brohan donating his collection of Art Deco and Art Nouveau to Berlin. It is a small museum, given the focus but contains a good deal of furniture, metalwork, and art works. In particular the glass works produced under these movements is probably the best part of the collection. The Kunstgewerbemsueum at Kulturforum in Berlin also covers these periods in part so if interested that museum may also have a section woth seeing. It is closed on Mondays.
We enjoyed the normal exhibition - but the Kuss - Kiss part was incredible! Fascinating, varied - different artists and types of art! It was great!
I was desapointed from ny visit. The museum 3 days pass let you only visit a small portion of the museum. I was done in less than 20 minutes. I wanted to see more !!!
Beautiful pieces but very small collection. Too expensive for what it is worth.
Wonderful collection of items from the Berliner Secession (early 1900s). Its a mix of all kinds of art forms: painting, graphic art, pottery, metalwork, etc. Highly recommended.
Nice collection of 20th century vases, although it is very small. The staff was very unfriendly and scary, with guards sneaking up on you and following you around constantly. This ruined our experience, if you are in Berlin for a short time, spend it in other museums!
really enjoyed this museum. Wonderful art deco und Art Nouveau furniture and silverware. Only fly in the ointment, they stopped me taking photos. I should have bought a permit at the entrance. This would only have cost a few Euros but there was no sign at the entrance and so I didnt know. Such a shame - I would love to have photographed some of the great exhibits.
