40 British wildlife species in indoor and outdoor enclosures, with informative talks from keepers.
British Wildlife Centre in Battersea
Description
Privilege
Visited during school holiday so was fairly busy and noisy which I guess was why some of the animals were hidden away. The talk on Hedgehogs was very interesting.Loved seeing and hearing the frogs.Would visit again if open during non holiday or ticketed event.
MoreWhat an amazing place. Was hoping for a good couple of hours here with the boys...stayed all day.The best enclosures I have ever seen and the staff are not only highly knowledgeable but super friendly and approachable. We will be back in the spring time
MoreLovely day out with the kids "they enjoyed it" and friends.I do feel though that they could do with more things to do..maybe some people just walking around willing to ask questions or point out hiding / hard to see animals.Or activities for the kids..We didnt really see many animals loads of harvest mice when you first walk in to pay. Plenty of rats and x2 heards of dear... "which the talk on was excellent by the man giving it.. it was very informative"Just a shame about the price really £36.00 for x2 adults and x1 child works out £12.00 each. Just for looking at green bushes and rats and mainly deer!!
MoreGreat place, especially for families, take a pecked lunch, plan your day round the feeding times and talks
MoreThis is about the conservation but a great place to visit. The staff are friendly knowledgeable and enthusiastic. They care about the animals. These are British wildlife yet in the wild often elusive and in some cases threatened. This makes you realise what we have and the efforts some are going to to help them. The opening hours are geared towards giving access to school children so they vary with holidays etc. Many of the animals prefer evenings or the night to when the public dont have access and it is not about the visitors so be prepared to be patient. Good facilities cafe parking etc.
MoreA brilliant day, we saw all but 2 of the animals, great talks too, and a chance to get up close and personal with a hedgehog
MoreLovely place. We saw some lovely animals. The talks were excellent and the staff were so friendly and informative, happy to spend so much time with us.Take your time and be patient, youll see so much more. The harvest mouse was amazing.Stay for the owl display.
MoreA very good collection of british wild life and animals looked to be well cared for. Entry ticket seemed a bit expensive, but they do have plenty of staff to look after the animals. The hourly viewings are worth going to because the animals can be elusive in their pens.
MoreAs always, a fantastic day out, the animals and birds are a huge draw for us and if you are very patient you will be rewarded with some amazing encounters.Although it was busy, we found areas that were quiter and so relaxing. We sat a long time in the red squirrel enclosure and had a fabulous time when one appeared really close to us.Never guaranteed to see them, but when you do, it is just magical.Fantastic day out.
MoreWonderful place - small enough to cover it in a couple of hours and loads of native wildlife species to look at, including badgers and red squirrels which you rarely see in the wild. The talks are really interesting, especially the owl display, and the staff are very friendly. It might look like the displays are empty but a bit of patience and quiet brings the animals out.
MoreBrilliant day out. The animals all seem very well cared for in good-sized enclosures and the keepers are all very knowledgeable and happy to answer any questions. The keeper talks every half hour are well worth attending. The owl display at 4pm was the highlight for us. We were there from 11 to 5 and I think we saw everything there was to see without being remotely bored.
MoreGreat little place the grandchildren loved all the animals we took a picnic but they have a restaurant which was resemble priced definitely go again.
MoreNice day out for animal lovers. The talks are all very interesting and easy to digest so I recommend attending them. They last about 10 - 15 minutes each. Some are repeated whilst others are not, so check the time table to plan out when you can have lunch. The grounds are small enough for you to leisurely see everything before 3pm so do apply SPF50 as you might be waiting in the sun quite a bit.Don’t try to feed the animals as they’re all on strict diets. The hot food at the cafe is passable so I recommend bringing your own packed lunch. Please discard your rubbish responsibly!
MoreBrilliant afternoon out and to see native animals that you would never see in the wild was amazing! Red squirrel! Weasel! Harvest mouse! Adder! Enclosures were well designed with caged runs all over the place! Staff very friendly and generally the centre was very well run. Would recommend to everyone. Thank you.
MoreAll the staff are so knowledgeable and kind. The real highlight is the owl display, they fly so close to you and it is easy to hear during the demonstration. Come early to grab a seat during busier periods. We took a picnic to the park and found there was plenty of seating to enjoy.Patience is needed to spot some of the smaller creatures, but it is lovely to visit somewhere dedicated to the marvellous creatures we have here in Britain.
MoreGreat place for taking young children to see British wildlife. The keeper talks are very interesting and they also give you a chance to see the more elusive animals as they come out for food 😊 Could do with a few more bits in the play area but its great that its for ages 3-6 so no big kids knocking the little ones over. Very friendly staff. Ill definitely go back.
MoreReally great spot to visit, not big but reasonably priced, lots of talks so you ensure you see the animals. Was really good to show my children that everyone animal could be seen in the wild in the UK.Only small criticism was play area quite run down, sand pit is more like gravel etc, this however did not detract from the day.
MoreFabulous place. Our 7 year old grand daughter loved it. Small but mighty. Highly recommend it too real nature lovers.
MoreWhat can l say BEAUTIFUL animals well cared for and keepers very knowledgeable well worth a visit
MoreWeve just spent a lovely day at the British Wildlife Centre. It was wonderful to see many of our native wildlife so well cared for, most rescued. The hourly feeding and talks were very interesting, given by knowledgeable staff who obviously cared greatly for the animals. Recommended.
MoreLovely day shame about the heat as most animals hidden away. Suggest joining the talks as animals come out at that point . 2nd visit will be back
MoreCharming experience and a great way to see more of the natural wildlife people miss on a day to day basis. They support rehabilitation of wildlife and help the populations of species we just dont get to see alot of. To be able to walk through the red squirrel enclosure and see them up close is wonderful. On site emenities offer everything you need to make a day of it but its not so large that you will miss anything. For a quick trip you can work your way around in just over an hour. To really see it all and take it in I would aim for two hours. If you want to know more you can stay for regular educational pieces and demonstrations. If you havent seen birds of prey up close its great to watch the trainers and keepers working with them. In short if youre in the area or needing a day out its worth a visit. For children it is a great education on species they may never notice.
MoreAll staff friendly and helpful.Toilets clean and tidy.Saw the deers, otters, hedgehogs ,stoats, foxs, owls, snakes, rats, red squirrels. With these came very informative talks from the keepers.Wet land boardwalk was fantastic as long as you take the time to spot the wildlife. So many reviews moaning cause they didnt see anything, these animals are not circus performers.Take a picnic as cafe is poorly run, expensive and quality of food below average. Good for drinks and ice cream.Gift shop very good.Only stayed till 2pm as it was so hot but will go back to see the other talks.Love the work you all do looking after, breeding and releasing animals to help keep them on this world. See you all again soon xx
MoreDid I find it through most exciting place in the world? Not really but my kids absolutely loved it. My 2 year old keeps asking to go back to see the animals.Cafe needs some real work though
MoreReally nice place, not too expensive, plenty to see. Worth attending the feeding/info sessions, as some of the more elusive animals will only come out when being fed.
MoreFeel in love with the red squirrel....love the layout given their animals a lot of space....Paid up for a years membership,so I hope to take lots more photos
MoreWe had a lovely afternoon. Plenty of parking. They have a small restaurant / cafe where we had a cheese and ham panini. They have talks / feeding every 30 minutes at one of the animal locations so you get to see even the shy animals. The staff where all very helpful and enthusiastic and loved talking about the animals. We managed to see everything in an afternoon, but they have enough for a full day.
MoreHad no real expectations and wow, what a lovely surprise. Saw probably about 90% of its inhabitants on two circuits and its deffo worth giving the day as youll probably see stuff you didnt on the first pass. How is this place not massively well known (perhaps it is and weve just been blissfully unaware), really great day out and super knowledgeable staff.
MoreGreat place to visit. Staff are knowledgeable with the animals and there is lots to see. Coffee shop is a let down as it is very expensive and the drinks are tiny
MoreA moderatley sized collection of animals that really made me appriciate how wonderful our native wildlife is.You can see Otters and Badgers!
MoreA fantastic wildlife centre, I was very impressed with both the obvious overall care for the animals and good quality enclosures. The staff were brilliant, especially the younger guy running the front desk I didnt catch his name. The staff giving the talks were enthusiastic and genuine, and there is clearly a good culture of education bred here. I would recommend to anyone.
MoreGreat place for family with children, but also for anyone interested in British wildlife! The staff is very friendly and helpful. Highly recommend that you arrive early enough to see the red squirrel 🐿 which are active only in the morning. Try to attend all the talks about the animals, every 30 minutes starting from 10:30am, because they are very informative and entertaining! On a hot day, the animals might hide in the shade and most of them tend to sleep at midday, but they will come out again in the afternoon. The last show at 4pm is the Owl display and that’s something worth staying to watch. Some of my favourites are the owls, foxes, squirrels, dears, and stoats. Book the tickets online in advance so you can get a discount too.
MoreVery impressed with the wildlife park.Well set out and plenty of information about each animal to read and digest. The keeper talks are well worth listening to. One every half hour to keep you on your toes to find the next one!The cafe serves hot & cold snacks and drinks. The shop is worth looking around as you exit for souvenirs. All in all a perfect day for all animal lovers of all ages.
MoreHidden gem in the east surrey countryside. Clean and well designed with happy animals and knowledgeable keepers who give talks while feeding the animals every half hour so you do get to see them quite close. Admittedly the Scottish wild cats did look just like cats but we were reassured they would scratch and bite the hell out of you if you get to close!
MoreA lovely place and well worth a visit. The scenery and wildlife are amazing and the keepers are very knowledgeable.
MoreGreat place to visit....Getting up close to the red squirrels is amazing and worth the entry alone. You also get to see many species you just wont see easily in the wild, Pine Martins for example. Staff talks every 30 mins bring the animals out and informative. Good facilities on site, food/coffee easonably priced.
MoreGreat day out, kids loved seeing animals. Not too busy, well run & great talks by keepers about animals. Fantastic seeing owls flying so close too!
MoreQuite nice centre, very nice staff who seem dedicated to the welfare of the animals.🥰 When there you need to be patient & quiet to see some of the timid animals (red squirrel etcthis can be hard with small children, serge of people or the doors slamming when entering & leaving an enclosure (these doors need a soft/rubber edge around themalso the mic during the owl demo was way too loud the otters in their den seemed to get irritated by it as did I and a little girl who walked past me with her fingers in her ears.😂 the Foxes,Wildcats,Pine Martin and Owls are stunning, I would & am going back very soon.
MoreI love this place, its not a huge place but it feels very at home and animals seem happy and relaxed. Great place for wildlife photography enthusiasts, I was very happy to see red squirrels and watervoles as well as harvester mice.
MoreExcellent day with Nikon School. Inside the enclosures with very knowledgeable, friendly keeper. A special experience
MoreReally friendly staff, well run photography day well worth the money to get up close to some of the uks elusive wildlife. Would wholeheartedly recommend
MoreDespite the awful weather this was a fantastic place to visit. The animals were well cared for and the demonstrations and talks very informative. Well worth visiting.
MoreOne of the best places Ive ever visited, amazing animals, great staff and an all round fantastic day
MoreBooked for a winter wildlife photography day . Great experience loads of time spent with each different animals staff are friendly and the animal arent camera shy
MoreHonestly one of the best experiences I have ever had. Will definitely return. Knowledgeable staff, clearly happy animals in habitats as close to natural as possible.
MoreA good day out for the family and a lovely way for kids to become familiar with British Wildlife. The talks provided by staff are insightful on animals you are aware of but rarely see so close up. The only challenge is the time of year to visit as if you go in the winter months, many animals are hibernating.
MoreWe popped in here unexpectedly on our way back from another local attraction and were pleasantly surprised. This place really is a hidden gem! Theres quite a few animals to see here, all of which have really nice well kept enclosures. A particular favourite of mine was the red squirrel walk where you can get up close with these beautiful creatures. They have scottish wildcats, badgers, mice, voles, stoates, frogs, snakes, owls, foxes... and so much more! There are also regular talks by the keepers on various animals throughout the day which were great and also gave opportunity to see some of the more elusive animals. I really would recommend this place if youre in the area.
MoreThe family and I had a lovely time at this wildlife centre. The staff were friendly and welcoming and the talks were really informative and interesting. Definitely worth a visit with primary aged children. It seemed to be busier in the morning than the afternoon and the animals seemed more active too.
MoreLovely friendly place to visit with our children and excellent value. With the caveat you have to be patient or may see very few of the animals. Its better to follow the keeper talks (every half hour), because the animals will magically appear as its feeding time. Also the majority become active later in the day, so worth timing your visit to still be there between 4-5pm. The only negative was there is the potential to have more amphibians on display and there were no lizards (there seemed to be some empty enclosures by the boardwalk).
MoreA lovely place to visit. Plenty of information around the site so that you know what you are looking at. Great place for kids and adults alike. Talks by the keepers every half hour. Plenty of benches around to sit down on. Currently you cannot sit inside to eat but you can buy food (sandwiches, pasties crisps, hot and cold drinksand take them outside to the picnic area. Plenty of parking.
