Cool, repurposed tram power station featuring plays, concerts & other shows, plus a speaker series.

Food is good . Tables not the most inviting. Had to ask staff to clean our table on various visits . Nice setting by the river.Staff always friendly. Prices are average. Sandwich menu good be better.
Excellent facility, with beautiful artwork on display. Highly recommend "Sorellas Story" by the amazingly talented Peter Hegedus.... Also, "To never Forget", which is a powerful documentary about "Sorella".
We had an amazing night playing for a corporate party last Friday! Big thanks to Mollie Hook for the prompt and detailed responses to our questions. All went well and were looking forward to play here again.
A treat to come here, especially to attend the shows and art displays. Currently loving the Brisbane portrait prize 2022. The Bar Alto and Mary Mays provide great coffee and MM has served us some delicious meals. Love the building. This weekend in spring there were hundreds of people... for food, for drinks, for the BIFF and the BPP.Cool art space!
Went to a comedy gig here. The theatre was great and there was great artwork to view while waiting for the gig to start. I like that they have repurposed an old building, rather than built a new one.
Classic venue with a modern interior design that still seems like a good fit. Well priced and right on the river. Great spot.
Thoroughly enjoyed the Brisbane Portrait Prize Exhibition at the Brisbane Powerhouse. Good venue , exhibition space , facilities and great cafe Riverside I recommend it.
A really unique venue housed in an old power station. Great coffee and a lovely view of the Brisbane River.
I have been to the Brisbane power house twice, the first time for a comedy show and the second for a art gallery display. My expirences have been great, its amazing to see a location so case different types of art and culture.Staff and volunteers are always very friendly. The building really has some great history as well, ypu definitely see that it has some old age to it at the front entry.
Very cool entertainment spot! Restaurant down stairs to grab a bite before your show. Recommend going to the Brisbane comedy festival!
Great information staff. Portraits on show when we were there and they were utterly amazing. Great work on parts of the old powerhouse, like the brickwork, stones in the cement, polished floors and girders. Wonderful view of the river and lovely eatery .
We saw kaleidoscope. During the day, its like walking through a white mirror maze, which is kind blinding and confusing. I wish we had gone at night. Hide and seek was fun, but theres a good chance youll run into a mirror. The powerhouse itself is a beautiful old building. Walking through, the lady at concierge was helpful. Theres a bar restaurant area, but it looks overpriced.
Great repurposed space. Im a big fan of regeneration of spaces like these, and while I didnt see inside the theatres, Im sure they would be great.Bar Alto was a great little bar/restaurant, good drink selection, attentive staff, and a good menu. The mussels were cooked brilliantly. And a nightcap on the deck overlooking the river made perfect sense.
This is the fifth time we have been back to the Cafe under the powerhouse. The coffee was OK, the beer cold, but the meals have been declining in flavour and enjoyment.Overall a bit disappointed. We have been in for morning tea, and lunches.Maybe dinner is better.
well as a senior citizen I recommend to turn the lights on in the car park earlier than you do. Due to the car park being in the dark at my arrival at 6 pm and trying to find my way into the building I fell over concrete sleepers and got hurt. Still in pain 2 days after. The staff was very friendly and arranged for the 1st aid person to attend after I made my way inside.Consequently I had loss of income etc.The place is nice. But please make sure that the lights are on....
We went to see the fantastic Kaleidoscope yesterday. Brisbane powerhouse always offers such a great vibe every time we visit.
Been here for a few events and always enjoyed the experience. The main theatre is a lovely set up although the seating is a bit flimsy that moves a lot if the person next to you moves at all. Pre-event drinks and food are good and moderately priced. Event rooms upstairs are very spacious and the serving staff are all excellent/very friendly. I would host an event here as the facilities and food options are excellent.
Just saw lano and woodley Thursday night. Amazing show. But the venue staff!!! Amazing ushers.and floor supervisors. Really amazing bar staff. Can only imagine how hard everyone is working back of house. Thank you to all of you for an amazing night.
Smaller theatre than I expected. Had a nice feed at the cafe. I didnt see a vending machine to buy some bottled water. Not sure if you could buy it from the bar or not. Had a great night
Headed up to Brisbane to see Amos Gil at the Brisbane Powerhouse. Haven’t been to the venue in quite a few years so it was lovely to visit again. The venue itself is spectacular and there was also a photo journalist exhibition on at the time which was great to see. The show itself was incredible I had such a wonderful night. Parking was easy and there wasn’t too much wait time.
Seen superwog hear. What a great place. And show was awesome.
I read reviews prior to purchasing tickets to the Paul Kelly concert at the Powerhouse. I read that, basically every seat has a decent view. I was only able to purchase seats in the balcony, stage left, and I could not see a thing other than the top of Paul’s head. And still, I could only see that if I leaned way forward. Extremely disappointed, and although I may go see another performance there (HIGHLY unlikely), I would never sit in the balcony, no matter how desperately I want to see the act.
I just had my wedding ceremony here on the Riverbend Terrace. It was extremely beautiful and the view is so good! Katelyn the events manager was by far the best, most professional events manager I have ever dealt with. She did a really fantastic job making sure everything was perfect!! Thanks to all Powerhouse staff and especially Katelyn!
Small but meaningful exhibition.Riverside restaurants provides inexpensive food, good place for family or friends gathering. Nice river view.
Quite an incredible range of ethnic food stalls. Not sure if this is a market any more- rather an on-site dining experience with a few market stalls. The live music was to die for though.
Super place to watch a live show, have a drink and a feed. Alternatively check out the latest gallery exhibition.
A great venue. Love how the raw old building has been re-purposed. It has a certain charm and character to give a stunning backdrop to any event being held here.We arrived early to grab a bite to eat, around at Maes, before the show. We then enjoyed a drink and looked at the News/Photography Exhibit while waiting for the doors to Open.Tip: if you arrive after 5pm parking is a flat $9 rate. You can then pay before you go in to your show, and head straight to your car after without having to line up to pay at the machine at the end of the night.
What a great spot -- an actual powerhouse that sat derelict for many years before being re-purposed, still keeping a lot of its original vibe.A great place to see a show at, with several different-size venues. But you can also just stop in for a drink, bistro-ish food upstairs on the bar (and also the mainlevel, or head downstairs for a full restaurant experience. Also a great vantage point to look across at the amazing array of Bulimba riverside & cliffside homes, etc. Easy to reach from New Farm Park ferry stop (if/when recovered from the floods); go early-ish for events if you hope to find street parks; better yet, park several blocks away and get a stroll in while NOT stressing about parking close (which aint easy at the best of times.)
It has an old-fashioned, alternative vibe. Perfect place to house the latest Ross Noble stand up show. They give you bio-degradeable plastic to take your drinks into the shows. For the environment, or safety incase the comedians sucked? That way you can only plastic a performer or annoying patron. Great place!
Always great however the bar can take an age to be served because its a popular venue. Also now that you pay to park it can also take a while to get out because its generally full & some people struggle paying at the exit. Pay at the prepaid payment machine prior to departure & the gate opens after scanning your parking ticket.
Absolute garbage seating! I think we were at a Wil Anderson show, but I couldnt tell you since these seats cant see the stage. Its impossible to enjoy a comedy show when you are disappointed from the moment you sit down. What a wasted night.BTW, selling something and not delivering it is actually illegal. Its fraud. You need to scrap the entire upper level.
We went last night and watched Gary star, very entertaining, out there, funny and sensational.Highly recommend. 5 stars
Saw an excellent comedy show at the Powerhouse. Car park fills up quickly, need to factor in extra time to get a street park & walk to the venue. Recommend booking a table at the restaurant or eat prior to arriving, there are very limited seating & food options. Line for a drink prior to the show was incredibly long.
Great venue for numerous events. Theatres were excellent for the Comedy Festival. Seating around stage complimented the artist (Becky Lucas - loved her show). Drinks from bar allowed in theatre and the bar itself was a nice place for a drink. Nice to have a reasonable carpark although with so many events there, might be an issue if you don’t leave much time till the performances begin.
Great views. Theatres are small and intimate. A good view from any seat. Staff very helpful and friendly. Wonderful and moving play- A Girls Guide to World War 😊👏👍
Attended an after hours behind the scenes guided tour. Jackie was absolutely amazing and it was a wonderful experience. Thank you.
The Powerhouse is a great venue to enjoy show! I’ve been to a few comedy events recently and they always deliver! It’s a really cool building and great that it’s been made over into a great venue to support performing arts! The drinks line is always a bit long during events, so maybe need to rethink that a bit!
Took 15 year old daughter to see Titanic The Movie the Play. Brilliant! We both had such a good laugh at the innovative script - so much fun. We see a lot of theatre and this is our favourite so far this year. Outdoor venue was well planned and really made you feel you were part of the show - especially with the sprinkle of rain as the ship went down!
Lots of brilliant performances to be enjoyed here. The building itself is lovely, if somewhat confusing. Ticketing folk are very friendly and helpful. The toilets are functional and clean. The bars are nice with a bunch of good options for everyone. Access by bus or CityCat is easy and that way you can enjoy a good few wines while were here, and youve gotta be happy with that.
I have had the pleasure of catching a number of shows here and I have always found them great value. The theatre is intimate and shows are always great. Theres a bar and restaurant and usually some great artwork to look at while you wait. Its situated in New Farm Park, I usually park in the park at night, no cost which is great. Beautiful spot overlooking the river also.
Marys Restaurant - went there for a Thursday afternoon lunch with friends. Parking on-site was not plentiful, but we did manage to get a spot.Snacks < $20 Mains <$30 Desserts <$20 Coffee around $5.The venue can be hired for events. Its a great place to come and chat with family/friends over a coffee, whilst enjoying the river view.
Went to have pre show drinks yesterday. We got there 1 hour before the show. Three bartenders and a line that didn’t move for ten minutes. We were then directed to go to the downstairs bar, same thing. Gave up and waited outside, I will make different arrangements next time. Show was brilliant.
Awesome place. Looks very nice on the inside. Went for a kids show. They have a pretty big parking although its a bit of a hassle for Google to understand where to take you as maps got me in the middle of the park and suggested I should walk there. When you look for directions make sure its not taking you to newfarm park. Maybe just put powerhouse park instead.Nice clean place, nice toilets and friendly staff. Has a nice overall vibe.
Went to see A Very Naughty Xmas show. However the star of the night was Bar Alto, the food was excellent along with the service. Was definitely worth going to the restaurant before the show.My only gripe would be to see more of our great Australian wines on their menu.
Stunning venue with a super cool vibe. Drink prices are reasonable and we were allowed to bring drink into our show.Would strongly recommend coming earlier than your show to enjoy the amazing view from the restaurant/bar patio outside.
First time Ive been there it was really nice, well priced and meals came out quickly. Its nice to find a place we can pull up on the skis and go and have a good meal, there was a group of us it was no problem with us carrying/wearing our life jackets etc, I will definitely go back.
An atmosphere of old and new. A former tram power station repurposed as an artistic venue for plays, concerts & other shows. A modern touch to an aged building gives you a feeling of wonder and curiosity; how it looked like when it was up and running, what noises the machineries make, when did it all change, and now this amazing place serves as a safe haven for people gathering to enjoy music, plays, good food and appreciate art.
I love how older buildings with so much character can be repurposed and not demolished. This is a wonderful example of that. The position is amazing. Right on the riverside with a good selection of cafés and restaurants to choose from. The live entertainment that takes place inside is always sparking and the function rooms provide an unique venue to do whatever. Always worth a visit.
A place where youll find great music, comedy & arts most days of the week. With the Brisbane river flowing behind, you can sit down and unwind a busy week. With 2 bars & restaurant, Watt & Alto, located at bottom & top floors, you can be sure to have a drink you like, paired up with a dish of your choice. Great place, for a change of scenery.
