Pupu platters, ahi tuna burgers & more seafood at a casual, beachfront space with vista views.
Decent food, yummy drinks, has a decent happy hour and only across the street from Poipu Beach. We tried their pitcher passionfruit colada and it was delish. The fish of the day tacos was Ono and it was pretty good. The house greens were also quite delicious. Overall, this is a solid place for food and drinks.
Brunch yesterday was great. Coconut shrimp with mango cocktail sauce and Bloody Mary were fantastic. Had a table by the window with a great view of the beach and ocean could not have been better. Service was excellent, highly recommend!
Excellent food. Sushi Friday was great!! Moonshine roll was super as was the seafood risotto! Pad Thai was spicy which we love. Enjoy happy hour from 3:00 to 5:00 before your reservation (which I recommend you getMake sure to walk across the street at sunset and watch the turtles come in. Our waiter Andrew was the best!!
The experience is very cool - to have an ocean front view as you eat. Poke bowl was good, but I wouldnt get it again since it wasnt anything different than other poke on the island - aside from being even more expensive. Fish and chips was a typical fish and chips. Risotto was good, but probably would try something else next time like their Togarashi plate. The special prime rib came with shrimp and more and was great! Clam chowder was great too.
Place is great, great location to the beach and staff was nice. Glad they had a wheelchair elevator for my wife. My only issue is the Burger I ordered was dry and had no seasoning. This is the second burger in the area that was dry and bland. Other than that everything was great the fries are amazing.
Very good food. Lots of options. We had the chowder, coconut shrimp, prime rib, pad Thai and seafood risotto. Everything was very good. The food came out fast and we had a great waitress. The is topped off by the beautiful views of poipu..
First visit: food, drinks, service: perfect! Nice live music too.Second visit a few days later: different meal choices, still everything 10/10. They even bothered to accomodate special requests with the main course.Since everyone knows how good this place is, you wanna book a table at least a full day in advance or you might end up spending upwards of an hour on the waiting list. Also be prepared that the prices are not on the cheap side, but that seems to be the norm on this island.
Our first evening in Kauai, we checked on availability and were told it would be about thirty minutes. We walked around Poipu Beach, and returned in about thirty minutes. Five or ten minutes later, we were seated at an open window overlooking the beach. A perfect setting for dinner. The service was good, and the food was even better. I had a poke bowl in a couple other places during our stay, but this was my favorite.
Worlds tiniest pineapple was growing right next to my table. Our server was literally the coolest dude of all time. Food was stellar. Drinks were great. View was amazing. GO HERE!
Had the Surf & Turf. Scallops wwwaaaayyy to salty, and steak very fatty. No AC, so it was hot in the restaurant. Made reservation a while ago for party of 6, and they had us at a cramped in a table way to small for 6 people. 2 people ordered fish tacos and they got beer battered fish in a soft shell.... Both said it was not good. The bill came and it was completely wrong. Almost every entry was charged 2x, along with other items we didnt order. It had to be fixed 4 times before it was correct. So frustrating when you travel so far and get a bad meal at an extremely high price.
What a nice location overlooking the beach in Kauai. Packed and crowded as always, fun and Hawaiian festive music, and awesome food. The tuna sashimi was perfect, the mock tails were awesome, the lobster and pasta was cooked to perfection. The service was a little slow because of how packed it was but the waitress was pleasant and spunky. Will definitely be back next time we are in Hawaii
One of the best dining experiences in Poipu. The food was good, the Togashi Ahi over Soba noodles, and it was one of the best dishes Ive had in my short time in Kauai. The views are good, vibe is good, drinks are good. Its expensive for what it is, but its Kauai.
Great atmosphere, staff and food! Ate here our very first night on the island - perfect introduction and so grateful we happened to show up early and got a table right away! Perfect location to eat before walking across the street to watch the sunset while the turtles come up on the beach to rest for the night.
This place is awesome. We walked right in and got seated right away. The host was friendly and even spent some extra time once we sat down to talk to us about our trip (honeymoon). Our waiter was Vicki was incredible. She even gave us a dessert and wrote “happy honeymoon” in chocolate on the plate! Almost every person that worked there congratulated us when they walked by. Amazing food as well.
We were so excited to get a reservation with one hour notice. Coconut shrimp with pickled ginger was a delicious appetizer! I ordered the beer battered fish and chips with pineapple slaw. I never use tartar sauce but did this time because the fish was so dry. The flavor was good with the tartar. Typical French fries. Slaw was yummy. Husband ordered macadamia nut crusted Ahi. It was good, but nothing I’d order again. Ordered 2 mocktails which were good. Kai was an attentive waiter and the sunset view was lovely. Was blessed to see a rainbow as well. We felt the view was better than the food. We don’t feel it would be worth the wait for stand by if you can’t get a reservation. Four stars for customer service and view, 3 stars for food.
Nice beachfront casual place on Kauai. All of the dishes youd want and some really tasty seafood options. Make sure you have a reservation as there are a lot of hungry tourists eager to eat here. Friendly servers and a nice open air vibe with views of the beach are also part if the fun.
We spent a nice evening here. The service staff was very helpful and attentive to our well-being. We got into a conversation with them and through the casual relaxed atmosphere came directly vacation mood. We received numerous good Kauai tips. The food was of high quality. The burger buns were first class. Across the street on the beach there are about 30 turtles. The sunset is fantastic.
Fun and unique lunch experience. Impressed with service, food, drink offerings, and price. Phenomenal view. Some fun martini options.
Don’t waste your time! Huge, huge letdown! Food OK but super expensive! Made reservations over a month in advance. Traveled 5000 + Miles to be told that they’re:Short staffed25% of menu is not availableVery busy?? (I really feel for you)Times are challengingReally? Such good food! Great halibut and awesome drinks! Fun times!
This is one of the best breakfast we had in Kauai. Amazing taste and amazing food. We order 3 egg omelette and avacado toast. Both were amazing in taste. The restaurant is near the beach so you can view the sunset or calmness of sea and enjoy your food.
I wasnt super impressed for brunch. I ordered the Paddle Out with a waffle. Others got omelettes. Orange juice wasnt top notch, but again not the worst. It wasnt horrible but also not the best. Id be down to try another meal here though. Those reviews seem better.
Sorry, but the perfect margaritas werent... I couldnt even stomach finishing the first one. The hype was that the fish and chips were supposed to be great. Nope. Soggy breading and tiny portions. My wife was not please the we spent so much and couldnt even eat the food. I normally dont complain. This time I should have. Mentioned to the manager that the meal was the worst Ive had in Kauai. Got a sorry. Im retired military and have eaten all over the world. Wont go back to this place. Hope your experience is better.
Dined here 3 times in two weeks. Wonderful food, drinks, service all telling you why you came to Poipu. Will, Tyler and Van gave us Wonderful experiences.
We got seated pretty close to their closing time -- about 30 minutes prior. I felt bad and never usually do that, but we were really hungry and got in from the airport pretty late. There werent many food options around. The service was awesome. Our server didnt show any signs of annoyance with how late we got there. She was really cool and didnt seem rushed at all.The food was also really good. We got nachos, clam chowder, a salad, and the seafood risotto. It was all great. And our total came in around $70 before tip.Very reasonable. The atmosphere is really cool and its right across from a beautiful beach that you can visit while waiting to be seated.I hope we make it back this trip!
Very busy on a Sunday, packed dining room with a 40 minute wait. Very fun place for lunch! The last time we were here it was a little chiller. I think a weekday and a window seat are the ideal move. Yummy snacks, drinks by the pitcher, solid prices compared to other places on the island. Really awesome Happy hour. I got poke tacos and a marg pitcher and they were both super solid. A little touristy, but if you’re in poipu already it is a good stop.
Great food and atmosphere. Their Poke bowl and tacos are very good! Coconut shrimp appetizer is also a must try!
Chill/relaxed vibe. Enjoyed it was upstairs as it gave a peak view of the ocean. Pinapple express cocktail was devine. LOVED THE GLUTEN FREE choices:1 app, 4 GF entrees & OMG GF lava cake😍. Surf & turf: Steak & scallops cooked to perfection. Would have liked more veg esp onion & mushrooms as they pair so well with steak. Made reservation 4 hr before & were seated quickly when we arrived. Billy had a energetic personality & provided great service.
This is a great restaurant that is not as expensive as hotel restaurants with excellent views and food worthy of a mahalo. I own a condo on Kauai for over 20 years that I rent out at Kauai Beach villas and I recommend this restaurant to my guests to give them a flavor of old Hawaii with aloha service. I have eaten here over 50 times and when I have guests visit this is one of the places I like to take them. I am never disappointed.Great seafood, excellent pupus, the drinks are made with precision and they may have the best Bloody Mary Ive ever had.
Amazing view with a great atmosphere! We had such a relaxing meal here. The nachos with pulled pork were a delicious appetizer. My husband ordered the poke bowl and raves about it. I had the Spicy Togarashi Seared Ahi and it was incredible. Our plates were completely empty. Mai tais were delicious too! Definitely a can’t miss option!
Brenneckes seems to suffer from the "only game in town" disease that hits many restaurants. The food seems to sit too long in the pass and comes to the table luke warm with congealed sauce. The cocktails are lacking. The Mai Tais may have been world famous once upon a time but theyve definitely lost their shine. That said its not bad food, but its really not great, and still after a day on beach its definitely a great view and relaxing. But I got the distinct sense the staff and kitchen werent really trying because they probably dont have to. People will come anyway. If you want a good cocktail by the beach with a tasty fish taco, mix it and grill it at your rental and pack it to the beach or enjoy it from your lanai. Anyone putting even a little bit of care can produce better food and drinks.
Keith the manager is really nice. The service is nice. The view is good. The food is alright nothing special and the kitchen takes a long time to prepare the food.Service: 4 starFood: 3 starView: 5 starThe kitchen take too long to prepare food and it is just ok
Service was great and super fast--we had a reservation and they got us in an hour early!Beer selection was good--local beers, which we appreciated and the mixed drinks were good (not stellar, but solid). We had the coconut shrimp as an appetizer and those were pretty darn good. The fish and chips however, were a very big let down. The fries were great--very crispy with great flavor, but the fish was terrible. Way too much breading! And I love breading, but it was so thick that the breading was crisp on the outside but raw and like eating wet flour when you got to the fish (which was overcooked because clearly the cook had been trying to get the breading not to be raw). I do know that covid has made turn-around for restaurants more, so maybe the cook is new, but still, not a passable fish and chips. So maybe order something else if you go here!
a decent poke bowl and also fun wonton taco ceviche. The clam chowder has lots of clam pieces! big window all around for good sea view from higher ground. good service too.
The Mai Tais were not that great which was surprising since their napkins boast 1,000,000 sold 😂. The coconut shrimp were tasty and it is a convenientlocation but I had tastier food and drinks elsewhere on the island.
Really fun vibe, and great cocktails- the mango madness was a huge hit. They have happy hour specials, after which you can head down to the beach across the street for the sunset (+ turtles and seals too if youre lucky)
Great food, family friendly, friendly attentive service! We got the coconut shrimp, fish and chips and a kids meal. All was very good. The coleslaw was different in that it had pineapple in it and it was very good! Our waitress was awesome! Also just a very cool setting being indoors and shaded but the open concept feels like youre still outdoors. It was exactly the vibe we were going for, loved it!
Poke crisp tacos were soo fresh and flavorful. Fish and chips were delicious. Service was so friendly and atmosphere was fun.
Delicious and open air. The view of the surf is phenomenal. Definitely make a reservation. Can be up to a 45 minute wait on the beach 😀😀. Great diversity of good choices and service is fast.
Wish I discovered this place earlier , it’s great ! The coconut shrimp and the margarita pitchers are good !
With a view like this, how cannot it be 5 stars. I would prefer to call it 5 turtles or 5 Mai Tias because after the 5 drinks, I was seeing Turtles everywhere! Fantastic beverages if you will. The food was SLAMtastic because I slammed it rite down! So yum. We didn’t make reservations so if you were wanting to skip the wait, my reviewee, I highly recommend it. I had the fish n chips…nothing like some surf n turf and it did not disappoint. My lady enjoyed the Caesar Salad…I ate her croutons. She needed something light and on the healthy side since she had a Hawaiian Meatloaf the night before. Great food! Cannot emphasize the cocktails too-believe me, those make the wait much shorter. Aloha!
The food was amazing!! Love the ambiance for celebrating our honeymoon at sunset. Fresh ocean breezes & friendly staff. Plus free ice cream pie for the honeymooners😍
Had lunch today at Brenneckes, managed to sneak a walk in spot for two. They seem to be incredibly busy, and for a good reason. Had some great fish and chips and clam chowder. Not sure what fish it was but it was quite dense and filling. The clam chowder was good overall but Ive had better in the past. However, we got a Fruit Smoothie Mocktail, and it was incredible. Great flavors with the passion fruit and mango.Would go again, a bit pricey though for sure.
I like to sit at the bar and feast on the fresh ahi appetizers. Fresh poke tacos are delicious, or the fresh ahi tartare. Other appetizers I like are the coconut shrimp, nachos, and of course the rolled sushi on Fridays. The Happy Hour menu is loaded with discounted drinks and select appetizers.
Fairly pricey, heavily travelled, decent food. Had the nachos (nothing special with a pint of sour creamand the ahi tacos (these were quite good, highly recommend). Like most places on the island, not a huge assortment of beer, so if youre liking the Kona brands then youll be happy.
We were able to make day-of reservations and got a window seat to watch the sunset. We do like early reservations (5-6 pmso that helps. Arrived early to take advantage of the Happy Hour Mai Tai ($10 vs $12). Decent selection of local brews.Ceviche tacos (pupu menuwere really good as an entree for a light eater like me and I would get them again. Also go the tempura roll – which was ok – probably would try something else next time. Husband got the New England clam chowder with the garlic bread – I will crave this long after we are gone! His fish and chips were catch of the day and very tasty (striped marlin the day we went). Great service (Van was a great server), great view for sunset.
TLDR: Absolutely go here : Make a reservation a week or more aheadAbsolutely a must go to restaurant on Kauai! We were not sure if we were going to get in but we took a chance. Luckily they were able to seat us due to a cancellation but I do not recommend taking that chance because this is a restaurant you do not want to miss.We had the coconut shrimp to start. They were served hot with dipping sauce. The smell of the fresh coconut hits you before you even take a bite. Absolutely divine. For dinner we ordered the Mac crusted fish and the seafood risotto. I won’t go into all the details because this would be the longest review ever written but each bite was perfect. The aromas, the presentation, and the service was superb.Drinks we shared a brown nipple and a desert hazelnut cappuccino. The brown nipple drink was heavenly. Really it was a boozy dessert in a cup. Highly recommend. The cappuccino is my favorite way to wind down after a fabulous meal, and it did not disappoint. Perfect all around.
Outstanding meal and super wait staff! Jabrielle was full of life and had a great sense of humor! The cocktails were top notch and great pours. My husband has a food allergy and Jabrielles attentiveness helped ensure a great meal. Although we were looking forward to the hawaiian sweet bread, the local delivery hadnt happened yet, so we opted for Jabrielles suggestion of the Loco Moco. It was amazing. Definitely enough for two people. Looking forward to a return visit.
Great service and wellprepared food. I really wanted the passion fruit sorbet. Love music on some evenings. Mask and reservations suggested. Ice at base of stairs.
The ambiance is really nice. The restaurant is on the 2nd floor and the windows are open to fresh air. We had a window seat at dinner time and were able to watch a beautiful sunset during our meal. There was live music from a single spectacular musician. His vibe was relaxing and his voice was so good. All 4 of our entrees were perfectly prepared and very tasty. The server was patient and friendly.
