Heumarkt 6, 50667 Köln, Germany, Koeln
A 150-year-old family brewery with modern rooms, casual dining & a traditional brauhaus beer hall.
Nice place with good beer. Decoration is classic old German. Food was nice but not so tasty as expected. Service was very good but prices a bit higher.
What a wonderful experience! We stayed at their hotel too - it was a fantastic choice. We could go down for food and a great tasting beer straight from the hotel. Amazing food and good service
Great beer! Authentic feel and the Kolsch just keeps on coming! Less touristy then others around it. Highly recommend
This place is a mixture of different experiences; the interior is well kept traditional brauhaus style, the Kölsch beer is delicious, and the waiter is wonderfully rude.Tips on how to handle the waiter; he will bring you another kölsch before your current one is empty and without you asking. If you do not want another kölsch you need to put your coaster on top of your beer glass before he comes around (he will still try to convince you to get another one). The menu has a surprisingly large number of vegetarian options, around 10, but be aware -the last dish under vegetarian options has beef, whereas the vegetarian burger is listed under the meat options 🙃😉We were a large group of 20 people and it was no problem for the waiter to keep track of all the different orders of drinks and food. The baked camembert on ryebread with jam and parsley was simple and as expected. The goat cheese mixed salad was delicious. The vegetarian burger was a bit to the boring side and so were the fries. The pork knuckle and sauerkraut was unbelievably huge and pink on the inside and crispy on the outside as it should be.
Great beer, curry wurst, and schnitzel. The service is great too
Tasty Köln beer! Highly recommended.
Delicious food, great service even if youve heard differently and easy on your wallet pricing.
Nice atmosphere and beer, but more hoppy than other lagers which was nice. Food was good but probably eaten better places in cologne same price. Overall though a good place
Caught them less than an hour before close, but still got a couple glasses. Kolsch was great. Nice light subtle flavors.
Delicious food.
The kolsch here is very good and the food was delicious as well. Great place to eat. Warning: the metthappen has A LOT of minced pork on it. If this is your thing you will love it. For me it was too much, but that doesn’t change that it was done perfectly.
Decent brauhaus food in a very traditional establishment. The service could be a little better and it seems as if the waiters are a little selective about who they (like toserve. Apparently one of the few brew houses, that serves Kölsch that is brewed on site, but it’s not my favourite.
Its on of the best traditional restaurant. To have a great traditional dishes, just go there.
Great atmosphere, friendly staff, nice food, good beer!!
The place to be in Köln if you’re looking for beer and pork dishes in a traditional Brauerei environment.Always very crowded.
We here here today. The waiter just came to our table and put 2 beers on the table without asking. Unfortunately, I was still looking at the menu, didnt realised the glass and I overturned the beer glass on the table with the menu.... I apologized for "my mistake" only to find out at the end that the waitress had charged that beer on the bill... I find this to be a horrific customer service. Food was ok, not any better than anywhere else. And next time we will go somewhere else
Best beer in the Köln and for sure best service!! Tasty food is included))
Really nice stop.. just outside of the tourist spot.. looks more like a locals restaurant and pub.. reall homely and Christmas feel to it. Staff were real nice and the menu loomed great by I just popped in for a few beers.
Very friendly staff. Perfect food and beer.Goulash, Crispy pork knuckle and Apfelstrudel.Id definitely recommend.
This time we ended up in the Malzmühle Bar which is next to the brewery. The food and of course the Kölsch was the same. Additionally there was an option for some cocktails. The service was extremely nice and friendly. The food and drinks were served very quickly. This is the place to visit! Highly recommended!
Pittoresk place. Nice atmosphere. Good local food and good service. Prices okay
Really good service and good food. Easier to get a table then on the main city roads. Really worth a visit
Went over for a quick drink and a goulash soup as I wasn’t very hungry.Entered the restaurant and no waiter noticed us waiting for a table. At some point I sat down at any of the free tables available. After some time a waitress approached us asking who told us to seat in the table! I explained and she just walked away. She came back to take my order, I ordered a large size of the Goulash soup and a beer.Soup wasn’t bit enough and the bread that came along with the dish was super hard.Strong taste of tomato pure, had way better goulash soups around the world.I think that for the fact of being foreigner we weren’t really welcomed by the staff either for the prob regular customers that were sitting next to us and constantly staring at us.
We were on a tour and the food was great. We had a raw pork appetizer that was as delicious as it was scary. Beer service was fast and the food was delicious.
Very traditional German foodAffordable very quick good service and they speak good English
Food was decent but service was terrible. The waiter didn’t want to bring drinks which were on the menu saying they don’t have them and they are a brewery and if you ordered anything else than beer it’s like you don’t exist and your order takes super long
We came here by reviews and this is supercool place. Huge portions and nice prices. We ordered pork leg and potato pie - both were tasty, it was hard to eat pork - but I made it, as it was good! Also waiting time was very short. Place has old times atmosphere.
Best blood sausage I have ever had.And nice beer!
The dishes are wonderful and big, especially The grilled pork knee accompanied by sauerkraut and masched potatoes. Its not a surprise if a bored pet dog are waiting under the table on tour side, for its owner tô finish the meal, its very common in Germany for pets to have access tô shops and restaurants. If you do not make a prior reservation, you May need a little patience to wait for a table and If there is room at your table it may be that other people Will come and ask to sit with you (another very common Germanic custom).Anyway, its a great place to taste the typical flavors of Könl, with good service and prices whithin what is expected.
Considered by locals to be one of the best beers in the region, I found it to be on par with others including Paffgen, Which is the other highly thought of brand. As far as atmosphere there are much better places to go.
Usually great spot disappointing today. Tables and seats not clean. Great Kölsch experience and good food. Only had a cured meats plate today with great beer. Enjoyed better with cleaner areas.
Wonderful food and really great warm service. Höhnerbross met Pommes un Salat was fantastic.
A must-visit if youre looking for classic German food and a proper Kölsch.
Great place to come and eat around Köln they offer good food and lots of beer! When busy there is a great atmosphere. One thing that you should be aware of of this bothers you, you could share a table with a stranger. But other than this the service is great and so is the food. They also offer different menus for different languages.
Great traditional food, the pork knuckle is a must try, we came with our 9 month old son and couldnt get in through the usual entrance but Ritchie was kind enough to help us through the fire exit. Great atmosphere, great Kölsch and great service!
Brewery mainly frequented by locals.Go there just for drinking the typical koelsch bier, not for eating, since portions are small, tourist-priced and the staff seems annoyed by non-local (very rude behaviour). Moreover this place doesnt accept credit card (or at least they try to dissuade you).4
Good food, service and a fair price. One of my favourite Brauhaus since I recently discovered it. Not one of the biggest though, better to book beforehand if possible. I can recommend the Haxe (see picturesand the Himmel und Äd.
Malzmühle is a combination hotel, restaurant, and brewery. The brand has been around since 1858, and their flagship ale is Mühlen Kolsch. Youll see its windmill logo decorating the menus and coasters. The restaurant brewpub occupies the lower two levels of a historic 5-story concrete building with their name in large red neon. The hotel is on its left. Ascend a few stone stairs to the entrance, walk through a circular red curtain, and youll be inside their large dining room. Ahead on both sides and also upstairs are more smaller dining rooms. The floor is white tile, the windows are stained glass, and the walls are white with wood paneling. Overhead are large paintings and faux hop vines for decoration. The tables are spread out, not a long row like other beer halls. The place has a nice architecture that feels both open and cozy, and the real draw of this place is their food. They have a full menu of starters, salads, soup, sandwiches, and meat and fish dishes. The food is good and the place seems quite popular with locals. The servers are curt and quick in typical Köln fashion, but also knowledgeable and helpful. They carry around circular metal trays which are used to take away empty beer glasses. Here in Koln, beer is served in small 200mL glasses, a stark contrast to the 1 L steins in Munich. They are quick to assume youll want a beer and will keep bringing more until you say stop! Their Kolsch is decent, and they also serve a bottled version of a super-malty-sweet dark low-alcohol beer called Kochsches Malzbier. Its one of those odd creations that you love or hate (I liked it). I did not see the brewing equipment directly, but I understand it is somewhere here in the building. Overall it is a very nice place for a meal and drinks.
I visited this beer Hall with a friend for an evening meal. We were a bitdisappointed with food. We started with the Goulash Soup which was very salty and had a very strong flavour likely to remain with you for the rest of the evening. This was followed by a chicken breast with a pepper sauce. The breast was dry and over cooked and again the sauce was far too strong - no subtlety whatsoever. The Kölsch was just Kõlsch. 8n general the food was overpriced for what it was and was flabbergasted at the price charged for 500cls of sparkling water €6.20
Great atmosphere here. Very casual, nice staff and quick service. The food was really good too. We got the goulash stew, very tasty. The beer is light and easy to drink. They bring it out in small glasses frequently which keeps your beer cold and carbonated as long as you are drinking. They know what they are doing, theyve been doing it for over 150 years.
Delicious grilled pork knuckle. Away from the tourist spots.
Had a great night. Kitchen prepared an extra plate for us and our waiter was awesome.
Rude service. We waited patiently to be seated. But the only thing the waiters did, was shouting at us to get out of their way. No one is helping the waiting customers. Once we are able to talk to one waiter, he ask rude what we want and send us away. Even for German standards very poor service. It was not the first time.Won’t go there again.——-Restaurant with German food. It serves a lot of people and can be noisy and very full. Clean Restaurant. You can go there with your family. If you go, eat:Grilled 1200g pork-knuckle with “Sauerkraut” and mashed potatoes.🇩🇪 Unfreundliche Bedienung, gutes Essen. Werde nicht nochmal kommen.
Our travel group stopped here for dinner while on a Rhine River cruise. We arrived about 7 pm, and the place was packed solid. Fortunately, Viking had reservations for us, so we were seated right away. When I say packed, I mean PACKED! We were jammed elbow to elbow, and people were bumping into us to get around to the tables. The good news is that the food and beer were excellent. The Kolschs were served in small glasses and as soon as you downed one another one replaced the empty immediately. The food was good hardly german fare, and there was plenty of it. We all loved this place. The staff is so engaging and entertaining its almost like a tour stop in itself (maybe it is!).When you find yourself in Cologne, I recommend you must stop by Brauerei zur Malzmuehle for an experience you wont soon forget!
Full of local people and very crowded during dinner time. Pork knuckle was a little bit dry but tasted good. Its come with a huge size that I couldnt finish on my own. Better to reserve the table beforehand to avoid long waiting.
My husband and I were in Cologne for two nights and went here for each of them. Best kölsch in the city and simply delicious food. My vegetarian husband had no problem finding something to eat. Quite a few touring groups come through, but its easy to see why. Fans of "Parts Unknown" will remember Bourdain ordering "Heaven and Earth" and pork knuckle. Dont leave without having some apfelstrudel!
Quick service, historic interior, very modern and clean bathrooms. Good selection of traditional German food. Nothing vegetarian on the menu other than desert and maybe one salad.
I heard that it is typical for a Cologne brewery to be not polite to the customer, but personally I think this is too much. Especially the manager of the place is really unpleasant. Besides that the food is ok. If you like lager beer you will like also their beer but this is the only one you will get. If you want any other type of beer this is not the place to go.
Classy Italian cuisine (no pizza!), great service, reasonable prices when taking quality into account. Had delicious spaghettini w/ mussels, supremely aromatic veal saltimbocca and full flavored grilled garlic king prawns. Good wine list. Best Italian restaurant in Berlin according to the concierge at our hotel. Highly recommended.
Nice place, offers really yummy food. Typical brewery dishes like grilled pork knuckles, sausages, sauerkraut, dumplings. But also regional dishes like sky & earth (mashed potatoes, applesauce and fried blood sausage). To top it: try their own beer, especially the malt beer: a little sweet, but not sticky, very aromatic.
