Brasserie Excelsior Reims - Brasserie in Reims, France
Good:1. Food was very good. Nicely presented and plates were placed with logo facing you. Nice detail!2. Portions were very good as well.3. Very beautiful building and interiorBad:1. My wife and I had a 3 course menu. It went way too fast. Courses were served within 10min. It was all done in 45 minutes. We could not take and enjoy our time in between. It felt rushed as if we needed to leave asap.2. Plates were removed before properly asked. I saw this with other tables as well. (Other table the gentleman was still eating.)3. The white wine was not cold. (Other table send back the wine and asked another.)4. Upon tasting and approving the wine, it was poured in the glasses pretty rough and way too much.5. After the desert we were asked if we wanted coffee. I stated we needed to have some time but will order coffee later. 5 minutes after we got the bill. I still ordered coffee and they apologized.
Good service from the staff, high quality of seafood, champagne and desserts as my first dinner in Reims.
Excellent food and service, beautiful terrace with a lovely relaxed atmosphere, stunning buidling in a great location. The seafood was simply delicious and the steak tartare was perfect, lovely winelist too!
Lovely ambience, feels very French and authentic. We came back three times in the row - the Crème Brûlée is so good! It gets very busy but it’s worth the wait.
Amazing seafood platter (I ordered the royal, where one really can feed 2!). The crab had so much roe, prawns and langoustine fresh and sweet. We also ordered lamb, which was ok. Come here for seafood and their champagne selection.
The thing that was best were two very nice waitresses. We paid over 100Euro (and would ve paid more for coffee and dessert, if the visit would have been worth it)Our food came at two complete different times, two times I asked to heat(!the sauce béarnaise, it was still lukewarm, dry &hard bread.Tourist trap.
Very nice brasserie in Reims. Good food and great service. The terrasse is very nice.
Beautiful location and very good food for a reasonable price! The waiters are nice and fast. My advice, you should definitely visit the Excelsior!
Our hopes and expectations were set high for our final meal in Reims. Needless to say, unfortunately we were left bitterly disappointed and borderline offended by the service and food we received - hence this review. Too long didn’t read: beautiful restaurant. Overall mediocre, overpriced food. Slow, inattentive, borderline offensive service. Opposite of what excelsior should mean. Take your money and appetite elsewhere! The food was sadly entirely mediocre and certainly overpriced considering the quality served - 3 stars. We visited as a couple so our sampling of the menu was limited, but still telling as to the overall quality and the value for money of the restaurant. For entrees we had the burgundy snails and the tuna mango tartar. The tuna mango tartar was tasty and served nicely, while the burgundy snails were certainly tasty, the shells on several of mine were crushed, leading to them being inedible as they had shards of shell in them (one of which I did not notice and had a nice surprise for my teeth). For mains we had the scallops with risotto and the chateaubriand with pommes frites, both made us raise our eyebrows. While the scallops were cooked nicely, the risotto had clearly been made well in advance - it was dry, hard and lumpy - not something you expect from a dish that costs 33 euros. The beef was also cooked rather nicely and as ordered (medium rare), but the accompanying pommes frites were something off a kids menu, clearly from a frozen bag - unimaginable for a nearly 30 euro dish and accompanying a chateaubriand nonetheless at “this level” of restaurant. While the food was mediocre, the service can truly be regarded as contrary to what the restaurant’s name might suggest - 1 star. It is the small, tiny things which start to pile up and eventually become rather insulting to a customer and make it feel as though you are simply a wallet to extract money from. Theres no friendliness, passion or fun in the service, it is just order and delivered - like fast food. It is clear that the restaurant has a high turnover of staff, because the training of staff was clearly sub-par. Our waitress poured about half a glass of champagne on our tablecloth, not the glass - not even apologising for it. After each course, we waited 20-30 (not exaggerated!minutes for our dirty plates to be cleared - it was the same for the tables seated next to us, who were also remarking as to the abysmal service on their own. The pommes frites were initially forgotten and when politely remarked, an annoyed “yes” followed and some time later the (frozen bagpommes frites arrived, no quick apology or a smile. When I politely asked for the winelist while waiting for the mains, it was forgotten about and when the mains were eventually served, I this time asked for a glass or red, which was delivered rather quickly, but was fridge cold - maybe 8c. When the wrong dessert was delivered and I politely said that it was not the dessert I had ordered, once more an annoyed sigh without an apology and heelturn to eventually, 10 minutes later, retrieve the correct, though fridge cold, dessert. Not once were we offered or asked whether we would like anything more to drink, once we had finished our mains we had to wait another 60 minutes with empty glasses to receive our to-share dessert and, eventually, pay.Though it is clear from other reviews that on its better days, the restaurant certainly delivers a good experience - sadly not for us. Averaging the two scores for food and service, we arrive at the overall score of 2 stars.
OMG!!! This restaurant is absolutely amazing! The waiter Victor is such an attentive gentleman and more compliments to the chef. Definitely a “must visit” place.Gordon Ramsay would be happy here;)
Just enough formality without being stuffy. Unfussy food - we dined on Escargot, Prawns, Carpaccio, Sea Bream, Chicken, Chateau Briand, Scallops, Profiterole, Sorbet with wine selections throughout and finished with Cognac and Apéritif. The courtyard was lovely on a warm summer night. Service was on point.
Beautiful classy place. Best crème brûlée I’ve ever tasted! Very special experience.
This was the best outdoor venue to eat at lately. Larger tables, space to the next table. VERY professional and attentive service. Well made and well designed dishes. Superb creme brule. W/ 1/2 bottle Louis Nicaise brut 110€ Truly enjoyed the whole meal and ambiance.
It was sooooooo delicious😳 I love it!!! I want to visit here again. Mood of this place is great!!
Overall experience was "ok", but I think I will forget it fast. The service was good and the younglings did their best but the food was without any surprises or even peaks.
Good time spent. Nice food and excellent service at dine in.
Excellent classical French restaurant a cut above the usual bistro fare. Well worth booking a table inside to see the beautiful decorations. Great food and service.
We were afraid of not getting a table without a reservation but they had one available. The sea bream was exceptional and the crème brûlée was hands down the best I ever had. Great value for money here.
Great place to have dinner for a wider group.
Fast service, good atmosphere outsideIt was nice
Classic, very French, great garden, nice lunch
We weren’t happy at all. We first didint get the Bread everyone got. Then we waited an hour for the food and other guests went first. The food wasn’t worth the 2 hour wait at all.
So disappointing. Building and restaurant attractive. Staff welcoming. BUT the food terrible. Saint Jacgue over cooked and burnt and I tasted it and rejected the dish. My friends had 3 small pieces of chicken which was fine but left the tagliatelle
The food was amazing, champagne, wine and at a good price. We loved it there and would come back for sure
Absolutely wonderful experience. Lovely ambiance and the food and service was amazing! Will go again 💖
I was enticed by a sign featuring the 21 euro formule (plat + verre + café gourmandwhich is honestly an amazing deal that had me setting my expectations low. I walked in, and the interior was very classy and lovely. The meal was nothing short of delicious. I had a salmon dish with a really adorable café gourmand, and the servers was very attentive and kind. Definitely recommend.
3rd visit, not as good as the previous two but ok . Maybe they thrive when busy !
Very very posh restaurant, food was delicious, staff very friendly, helpful, carrying! Would like to come back there again. Thank you for your delicious food and carrying of us xxx
I went there yesterday, my gosh it was mind blowing 🥰🥰, love the restaurant, the atmosphere, the works and their services. I so much love them and the funniest part is that, it’s my first time going to any restaurant since I arrived in France 2016. And I never regretted it. Would love to visit again by Christmas 🤶. It’s recommendable
Very nice steak and chips and everything was first class. Definitely worth a visit rather than lots of establishments close by if you want a nice meal.
Location: a little bit away from the main part, which makes it less crowded and more fancy.Bathroom: surprisingly bad for such a luxurious place. They were even missing the hook on the bathroom-door to hang my stuff and I had to place it on the floor..Restaurant: I only went for desert, which was magnificent. Combined with some Champagne and the classy vibe.Staff: well trained, very professional and super friendly.
Terrible service, horrible food. In the start of the evening there was a really bad atmosphere between the workers, like they were going to get into a fight. We took the menu. The starter was fine, the rose wine was not worth its price but it was drinkable I guess, for main dish I asked for the beef, it was chewy and only came with fries, no veggies to been seen. My girlfriend asked if it would be possible to get vegetarian main dish if possible, the maitre said it was no problem, she got a pile of spinach, aubergine and leek (see picture). It was disgusting. At the end we asked for the bill for which we had to wait for 20 minutes. In the end we stood up and just went to a waiter to pay. Last time here, never again.
In summer time this brasserie offers seatings outside in a wonderful patio / garden. The food is of good quality and the å la carte menu offers a nice variety of upper scale brasserie meals. A good value to eat out in Reims.
When we were looking for somewhere that was not part of the big standard offerings in Reims, this restaurant stood out. It has a lovely garden setting, well trained staff, good wine list and value for money dishes on their menu. Would recommend to anyone who would like to have a better than average dining experience
Standard bistro food, good quality, according to the receipt belongs to the FLO chain.
Where do I start the Bordeaux was good that gets the one star the meat gave me tooth ache it was so tough and chewy the moules had no sauce and the Bread was so stale my dog wouldn’t eat it with butter on it! The couple next to us had mould swimming on they’re tab Water and the waiters where so unfriendly and didn’t even apologise. Do yourself a favour and stay away!
The food was mediocre serving over cooked duck. Our waiter was rude and dismissive as soon as we asked about vegetarian options in poor french. Worst of all with the current situation, the toilet was a covid nightmare with reusable hand towel. Oh, and tap water will cost you 4 euros. Qu’est ce se!
The place is well located and charming. The food was delicious. Good service.
The quality of the food was correct but nothing spectacular about the presentation of the dishes. It was boring and not atrractive, not worth a pic to post on Instagram, which is a pity because with a little effort they could do better. The interior has a potential that is not fully used. The restaurant is well located and has a lot of wasted charm. It has a terrace and can host a lot of people, maybe too many and thats the problem, as the service is busy and forgetful, I got the champagne that I didnt order and was charged for that. We didnt get the salt and pepper even when we that asked for it twice. We requested the butter to our side bread, so really the basics, and waited long to get it. We missed a pleasant, relaxed atmosphere that we hoped for based on the pictures and reviews. It was hectic, crowded. So overall, we skipped the desert and just wanted to leave quickly. For the price of around 80€ for 2 persons for a starter and main, with 2 drinks, we had better food, experience and service elsewhere. Sorry...
Traditional French brasserie cuisine in a beautiful 1920s decor. Dont miss the baba au rhum, its the best youll ever find - complete with the bottle of rum to pour over it!
We were recommended this restaurant as the best or one of the best in the city. Do not taste the disappointment. Dry fish with pork sausage, despite the fact that it was halibut! The steaks are stiff for sirloin and the cooking is also not up to par. This is not fast food but the level is not higher.
We ordered the set lunch because it seems to include the choice of signatures. We tried all starters Fish Carpaccio, Escargot, Foie Gra. The carpaccio was the best with beautiful flavors. Escargot was juicy and tender. Foie Gra was just ok.We tried 3 different main courses as well - chicken, steak and prawns. In my opinion, prawns were the best. Cooking was alright but good sauce. Steak and chicken were average but ok.Desserts we ordered only two - Rum Baba and Chocolate eclairs. They were average.Overall lunch was fine. Seafood was better than the rest and there is a genuine French impression even though not at gourmet level. Probably the best restaurant around the few streets as Reims is a smaller city.Seems understaffed. Waiters forget orders or instructions.
The food was pretty good and definitely offered a good sample of traditional french cuisine. The restaurant is vast and is well decorated. Although we sat inside, the patio looked like a fun place to enjoy a meal on a nice day.
Great brasserie, great prices, the food is amazing and the staff is very thoughtful, friendly and speaks English!
Lovely elegant French restaurant serving high quality food, and a bit more upmarket from the other Bistro youre restaurants in the area.Couldnt get outdoor table for six as anyway booked up, but in the end enjoyed being in the elegant surroundings indoors. Most of us went for the very reasonably priced set menu, which was excellent value. And for a French restaurant the veggie options were also good. Chateaubriand was excellent, and their take on the profiteroles desert were huge!
Should have been great, but sadly, it was truly awful. The location and waiting staff were spot on, but the chefs couldn’t cook, simple as that really. Over cooked meats, mushy seafood that was obviously not fresh and generally exceedingly over priced for what it was. Tried to explain this to the manager, but no apology and just a shrug. Our meal was £35 a head including the kids meals (which were a jokeand not one of the 11 of us enjoyed the meal and one of the party was sick a couple of hours later. Please avoid this place. Possibly the worst food I’ve ever had in France.
One of the best places to eat in Reims. This isnt to say it is awesome, but so much better than some of the local options. Ambience is really nice, especially on their large and brick terrace in the summer. They do crepe Suzette at the table too. Very nice.
Fantastic seafood menu, we had a set menu of oysters to start, and a salmon as a main. The chef was accommodating to switch our sides to remove meat, as we do not eat it. The prices are reasonable for the lovely venue, great patio, and high quality service. We were very impressed, and one of our best meals in the region.
Very good food with reasonable prices for the quality of their cuisine. Various menu options which are good value when you factor in the included drinks. Excellent childrens menu. Choice of eating outside on a lovely garden terrace or inside in an fairly grand restaurant. Friendly staff & excellent service. Free WiFi.
Very beautiful decoration and also the garden is fantastic. However the waiters are not that friendly and there were no smile on the face. They were just doing their jobs. I didnt find the food extraordinary compared to the price.
