Strada General Traian Moșoiu 24, Bran 507025, Romania, Slobozia
Dramatic, 14th-century castle, former royal residence & alleged legend of Count Dracula inspiration.
It is touristic, it is crowded and it is cliche but it is still worth visiting. I suggest you arrive early (the earlier the betterso to avoid the mass of schools kids and family flocking the place. The castle is very well maintained, the explanation boards are clear and easy to read. It surely is a must see.
Good place to visit. Not scary at all. Small castle, but a lot to do before you enter the castle premises- good selections of food and turkish coffee, corn 🌽, sweets, hot sweet wine and a lot of souveniers and wool items.
It was a bit disappointing my visit in this castle! I imagined it more amazing, more attractive, more decorative for Halloween…but not! I was fifteen days before Halloween, and there is not atmosphere! However I’m happy to see it and to be there!
Very interesting visit, very nice gardens. There is quite alot in there about vlad the impaler and Dracula, as one might imagine. The castle is quite crampt and can get very busy but if you like history or have an interest in Dracula or vlad then its worth going. There is also a torture museum inside (have to pay extra for itwhich is worth visiting. Also there is a time tunnel which is informative and fun.
I drove 3 hours from Bucharest to visit this castle. May be my expectations were high, I wasn’t too impressed. My main issue was that there is no way to capture good view of castle from outside. It’s small castle. Long queues due to kids school trips. I would have finished all of it in 15min if I wasn’t queuing behinds school kids. If you are around this area then go for it.
Don’t be disappointed if you don’t find Count Dracula here :this place has nothing to do with it other than that it apparently inspired Bram Stoker to write the famous novel - but nevertheless, it is breathtakingly beautiful.A lot of history in this little village of Bran and a visit is so worth it. Well preserved castle with a lot to see and hear. There’s a little shopping area underneath the castle with souvenirs and trinkets so make sure you have lei, Romanian currency, if you want to bring back home something to remember this place.
Lovely castle, but its getting somewhat of a tourist trap in the last 10 years. Yes of course it was one of Vlad Tepes castles and inspired Bram Stoker his novel of count Dracula, but the surrounding area is a giant flee market that I believe damages the image and the hall feeling.
The classic Dracula castle is what you expect it to be - a portrait of Vlad the Impaler and his family. We loved the view from up there, but we dont feel that 45 RON / ticket per person and 10 RON / time tunnel ticket per person is a worth it price, taken into consideration that we explored the castle without a guide.Nothing in their shop is quite affordable. Even a bracelet is 70 RON. They are for sure overmarketing the concept of Dracula.
I have dreamed of seeing it for years. You buy your ticket. Approx 9 euros . Climb up the hill. The most of the tour is up and down many tiny steps with so many people waiting to either come from behind or returning in tiny halls and stairs that feel like cattle shoots. Your pushed through in about 30 minutes. Glad I did it but quite frankly I was disappointed and not impressed.
It is quite easy to get there, the best option is renting a car and go by your own, but there are a lot of excursion from Bucharest that also included stops in other castles and villages. There is a kind of bazaar on the bottom of the castle before the entrance to the area where the castle is with souvenir shops, restaurants and places to order food. The rooms in the castle are quite tight, so if the place is crowded, then it will be difficult to walk between people. There are some spots with a lot of people taking photos, so youll have to wait your turn. There is no much furniture as in Peles castle, but I think the place is worth a visit, the surroundings are beautiful and the legend of Dracula is a plus.
Perfect day at Bran castle. Be sure and be there when the gates open to avoid the tour groups. Well maintained and just beautiful castle. Took hours as I took advantage of the sitting areas at every opportunity to just take it all in. Staying the night here in Bran so will more than likely take a second run through the castle.
1 hour was enough to see the whole castle, sit at park and find a decent coffee. The place is definitely must-see. Please lower your expectations as its not the Disney.
Good to meet the castle as it is one of the most well known touristic spots in the area and it does look nice from the distance. However it is to a certain extent a tourist trap. I would suggest exploring other castles in the area.
It was very disappointing.. The queue was extremely long and the queue keeps like this inside the whole castle, so you are not free to walk around because you are on every second in the queue 😂 It is just annoying, very touristy and not an exciting experience. The castle looks nice from outside but is not special at all in the inside.
🏰 Despite I wished for this castle to be something special, it turned out to be a bit of a disappointment... Its CROWDED, and for 6.4 giant like me, squeezing through the narrow and low corridors accompanied by about 500 people, is not a fun experience...🧛♂️🦇 Because of the fact that it is somewhat connected to the Draculas legend, the location is extremely overcrowded... The line to get in is (verylong and isnt a pleasant experience in 35 degree scorching heat ☀️... The whole experience revolves around waking alongside the barriers throughout the (admittedly very interestingbuilding, with an occasional theme based room gallery. Granted - you get to learn about the history and medieval tales of the fortress. That compensates for the poor logistics a bit...💸 Getting in is going to set you back around 45 Lei (£7-9which is steep... Even then, theres another ticket gate inside if you want to see more of what the site has to offer (we skipped that pleasure)...🅿️ Parking is quite far and on the side of the road (also paidso the walk in the motorcycle gear is a chore... 🏍️🚻 Facilities are limitedOverall, this is more of a destination that you just want to check ✔️ off the list. Doubt I will be back unless its less crowded or showing it to someone I would want to bring to Romania for a motorcycle tour 🦊
Loved it. Was disappointed with the the elevator and the supposed basement tunnell which turned out to be totally commercial and a way to extract more money from you on the way out.Otherwise, totally enjoyed my visit and the whole family loved it. Loved the history and the story around the castle and the area. Will be visiting again
Its a cool castle located in a beautiful countryside. If you buy a ticket online in advance you dont have to wait in a line outside (costs about 9-10€). I was expecting it to be more "Dracula themed" but it has little to do with that besides the few pictures and some notes from the writer. It has an interesting Museum of torture (you have to buy a separate ticket to enter that area it costs around 2€)It was a bit crowded when we were visiting.
Lovely castle with a huge garden and nice park. I will recommend to be visited in summer as it looks great. As its promoted as Draculas Castle I think it would be nice to have more details about the history of DRACULA. The tour doesnt take too long and at the end youll find a gifts shop for buying some souvenirs.
Beautiful castle, looks cozy but imposing as well. Very good restauration through time, amazing torture instruments expo, loved the surrounding park as well. Worth every minute, even if it gets crowded with visitors.I was lucky to catch an extra well detailed expo event on Bram Stokers research and process to writing Dracula.Awesome experience. If you also book a stay with the castle view it makes everything a complete experience.
Too much hype for no reason to be honest. Ok I get it. It is a medieval castle. But there was no sign of Dracula unfortunately. We only saw the history of the writer that created the Dracula 🧛♂️! Other than that, it was the history of the elite that used to live in the castle. I think that Peles castle 🏰 was more interesting as soon worth it. Also be careful and plan ahead. Buy tickets to skip the line. And start early cause the road from Bucharest might be not many kilometers but the traffic is huge. Also, the castle inside had TOO MANY people. At some point we wondered whether was even safe. Plus there were no people of the castle to ask for anything or even helps if needed. So don’t go there on a Sunday or something. You will not enjoy it!
Its a beautiful castle and its been turned into a real tourist attraction. The grounds all have signs to shops, restaurants and inside the castle you follow a set path. All around the castle are little Souvenir shops and some snack stalls. We went on a Thursday and arrived at 4:50pm, there was a really long line. The castle stops selling tickets at 6pm, but it seems that people who get in late can hang around and explore. We got in around 5:30 and were able to explore and shop at the museum shop even at 6:30pm. It took us 1 hour to see everything, but others definitely stayed around a bit more. By the time we left the restaurant was closed, so if you want things to be open make sure to get there early as parking around the area can be tough in high season. Some stairs and hallways are very small so if youre claustrophobic be aware. The castle has 2 additional add on to the standard self tour: tower/tunnel that looks like a long elevator down and the medieval torture devices. We did the medieval torture devices add on and it was a few rooms with replicas and some legitimate devices and explanations. The history and the views are worth it :)
A well preserved castle converted to royal residence up in the mountains. Can be a bit crowded later in the day. Attraction is mostly architectural. Nice little cafe/restaurant at base and plenty of other restaurants and trinket stands nearby to round out a trip.
The audio guide was not functional at the moment. Every room had a description of everything, but still it would be for our daughter that just turned 10 years more interesting if she could hear everything. Given the fact that it was very crowded, we could not spend as much time in every room as she needed, to read everything.Other than that avoid the holiday months to visit. We were standing in line for over one hour, even though we arrived at 10 am when the castle just opened it’s doors. We would advise you to get your tickets in advance online. Even though this will help you to skip the line at the entrance, but not at the entrance door at the castle. There is another line which can be very long also…
Always comes with pleasure, I strongly recommend to but online tickets to avoid the line , parking available nearby, no access for disability people 😔 , please do something with that disorder and disorganized entrance!!!!! Shame for this !!!! Also the outside castle shop was closed !!! Wait 1 hour to go inside even if i have online tickets . I recommend to take out that projections….looks very bad and like a circus not an historical place , no toilets!!!!! ; I recommend to stay one night in Bran and take your time to visit to Castle and Have Patience ; If you do sime waiting line like in airport will be more easy and nice for everything to avoid all that romanian peasant’s that comes from Italy and England to visit the Castle and forget to stay on line ; the rest everything was beautiful.
Lovely day spent at Bran Castle. The area is full of restaurants, bars and the souvenir shop is really nice .. although a bit pricey..The Castle is very beautiful .Recommend visiting during the week... I suppose in weekend is very crowded.
From the outside, this is a beautiful medieval castle/fortress, although smaller than it seems on photos. The inside has some interesting things but sadly does not have that much info on the castle itself. Its mostly about other topics like dracula, medieval folklore (which was still definitely interestingand also torture devices (which has an extra charge). Taking the elevator to the exit is worth it (also extra chargeas its a fun little show. Do take into account that its absolutely packed with tourist, please order tickets in advance to skip the awful queue. Best photos of the castle can be made from the castle gardens.
The line to buy the tickets was HUGE - so I suggest buying them online. You can get three different tickets - one for the general entrance, one for the torture room and one for the time tunnel. I do not recommend the time tunnel - it’s boring and there isn’t much to see except screens with pictures. The castle was very crowded. We were there on a Friday, and there were soo many people!
Highly recommend you visit with a tour group so you can skip the huge lines. The castle itself is cute as well as the area around it, the garden and the street market just before you enter the palace. PS lots of stairs involved
Its okay. Very nice and well preserved castle. I dont like the atmosphere there. Vampire story is just made up to bring more tourist to the castle and get as much profit as they can. If you really know the history of king Vlad, nothing makes sense and actually then you discover his castle is even in completely different place. Fact that some American guy (current ownerjust made some cheap and overcrowded attraction from this beautiful historic place is sad. Ticket price is definitely too high comparing to what you can see in other castles in this region. Is it worth to see? If you love castles as I do then you may consider it. There is plenty of tourists and kids making this place hard to enjoy. But there are some quiet places, especially at the gardens :)
The place Is really nice, you can definitely feel the history flowing though the walls. Born Romanian, I found out many interesting facts about the chronology of the place that I was never taught in school. I think that more authentic artifacts could be added to enhance the originality and personality of the castle.I really enjoyed going through the narrow walls of the secret passage, sitting on the queens porch and enjoying the view of the court, and looking through the small windows on the wall. Its not very busy, I recommend coming early to get in quicker. We arrived at 11 am and we were in the queue for 25 min to buy tickets. Crazy reductions for students and teens, make sure you have proof. The castle it self was as busy as any castle I have visited. Given the small chambers, we had to wait about 4 min to get in a room with more artefacts. But it wasnt an uncomfortable wait.Overall, a positive experience.
Well worth the visit, really nice views and great experience. I would suggest going early to avoid the queues. We arrived at 12.30 and there was a large queue to buy tickets. We managed to buy tickets online in the queue and skipped it. I would suggest doing this on advance. Not much else to see in Bran but the castle itself is worth the trek.
Sure there are a million of tourists here, and it is always crowded. But this is also one of the most famous places in Romania where nearly everybody will come. And I can see, it is worth the effort. For the castle you have to wait about 20 min to get a ticket. From the options you can skip the time tunnel, since it is something you can miss without having a bad feeling ;-If you want to see the torture chamber depends on you, I can recommend it, but it is certainly not suited for children. There are a lot of booths around, so you can buy souvenirs :-And for parking: we took the one in the center with the automate, which was fine but expensive. When you drive through the village you should find fre places next to the road. The castle itself is stunning, more from the outside but also inside very nice. A must see.
Great place to visit not only for the sights but also for the history of it which you learn from all sorts of plaques and exhibits around the castle. It truly stands for a magnificent piece of romanian history.
A tour of Bran Castle is an unforgettable experience. Its very cozy for a castle, and it looks like something out of a fairy tale. This is largely due to Queen Mary, who made Bran Castle her home and undertook extensive alterations and renovations. The exhibition is interesting, and you will learn a lot about the castle and the countrys history. But be warned: its one of Romanias most popular tourist attractions, so I recommend going early in the morning. Large lines begin to form around noon, and once there are a large number of tourists on the tour, it becomes an unpleasant experience. There isnt much room in the narrow corridors, and theres a lot of noise. So dont miss out this castle, just remember to visit it early in the morning.
its a nice experience to be there and to fell the history as this castle one of the most famous and historical castles in Romania and as a tourist it will be very hard to come Romania and miss this place.its crowded little bit but so its better to avoid the week end and holidays to enjoy the place.
9.5 lei entrance for adult. The place is quite small and not much to see. I find there are nothing mentioned much about Vlad. Mostly are about the princess that lastly pwn and renovate the building. Its beautiful place but if you are looking for information about Vlad, you wont find it here. The most interesting part is a cross with signs and original past language. Its a half day visit with bus connection from brasov.
Must visited historical place. Always crowded. Recommend to buy tickets online of not you gonna have to wait about one hour in the queue. Sad to see that they have only one counter with one staff working to issue the tickets for hundreds of people per hour
This is a beautiful castle with a great view and interesting history.Disappointingly, this castle doesnt actually have anything to do with Vlad the Impaler or with Dracula although often associated/called "Draculas Castle".Quite a few rooms were dedicated to Dracula and other folklore creatures. Thats ok but it sort of took away from the feel of the castle itself.
Beautiful castle &surroundings. Steep walkway to get up to it. Loved the furniture, fireplaces &exhibits. Puts the whole Dracula mystique into perspective. Spectacular vistas looking out from the various floors.
Very nice. But theres much nicer castles in Romania. The time I went there, there was so many people that the experience was not so nice. I wished to leave, and avoided seeing some parts. I went a saturday around 2pm, i guess I will try to go another time when theres less people. Theres night excursions that you can arrange for a group. I recommend to go during the week or finding a time when it is not so crowded. People stacked everywhere, you have to walk very slowly and its a constant flow, so you cant even wait until its over. When this happens, Its not even nice to take pictures.
I loved this castle and its gardens. Its in a great location with amazing views of the surrounding countryside. The castle is small but very warm and homely with nice wood panelled room and quirky wooden stairs and walk ways. Its very well organised and has good info on its history. They dont have any parking even though on Google maps it shows they have a car park but they dont so I parked 10 mins away and walked. Highly recommend.
The castle is well maintained, a nice place to visit. You would probably expect to see more details inside, but all in all, it’s a pleasant experience. There is plenty of parking around the area. The welcoming Bazar should be transformed/upgraded, and definitely, the pedestrian areas are too narrow and get busy most of the time.
Cool site to visit. It is definitely a place where most tourists will be so be prepared for a lot of visitors taking photos etc. i suggest buying a ticket ahead of time so you can skip the line when the site opens. Also be prepared to walk. The entrance alone is a pretty steep walk before reaching the castle. All in all it’s a cool place to visit.
Its a must if you travelling to Romania. The castle has some magic and it seems designed for Disney movies. The atmosphere around its also quite nice. I dont give 5 stars because even though its nice, I didnt feel it was that great.
One of the few attractions in Romania that has improved over the years. It feels like walking inside a maze. Each room is either like a museum, with furniture and setting as it was 100 years ago. Or with videos projects on the wall with stories.45 min to 1h its enough to visit it.Try avoiding the weekends, when its so crowded.
We had a great time at the castle. This is the Dracula castle, that inspire Bram Stoker.I recommend buying the ticket online, you can definitely skip the queue, at least the queue of people buying ticket there. There are other bookable thing inside like the torture museum and some other interactive thing which is not really worth it.There are also other interactive thing in one of the top floors showing different monster based on Romania folklore.
One of the most visited sites in Romania, I have to say its really worth the trip! Gorgeous mountainside location, the castle is really beautiful and greatly preserved and the "time tunnel" is highly entertaining with all modern technology to throw you back in medieval days filled with scary stories and brave knights and princesses. Loved it!
A very spectacular place famous for its legends located in the heart of transylvania Bran castle is a place full of spiritual and mystical load! Regardless of the period in which you visit it, the landscape is a dream! The tour of the castle lasts a few tens of minutes and is really worth it! I gladly recommend it to everyone!
Always a pleasure visiting this castle. The last time I visited it, I was very small, so it was a pleasure to return here as an adult, with a friend who never saw it. The castle is greatly updated, with fun tours and beautiful views.
These photos are a bit old but this place is breathtaking. A piece of history and a wonderful town. There is so much to experience and the food is worth it too. I spent the weekend here a while back; there are many little shops and lots of local food to try. Everything is affordable but make sure you plan ahead to bring cash ( and enough leito really try everything. Not that anything is expensive but prepared to barter in town for the shops lol ( not the gift shop in the castle of corse). But go in and experience everything Bran has to offer. The people are kind the food is tasty and the alcohol is strong. What more can you ask for? I plan on making another trip back here in my lifetime but next time with family and friends.
